Fix your F250 Body Mount Bushings for Good! - Tow Rig Tech EP6

- On this episode of Tow Rig Tech we are going to show your how to fix your 6.7 Cab Bushings once and for all! I have been driving my 2013 Ford F250 6.7 Powerstroke for a year now and it has 175k miles on it. I started to get the infamous F250 body mount bushing noise which meant is was time for the dreaded body mount bushing replacement. That is when I noticed that my body lines between the cab and bed were no longer lined up. A quick call to my friends at NCB Diesel and I had a new set of S&B cab mounts F250 crew cab version on the way. The problem is the factory 6.7 Powerstroke body mount bushings are made of some kind of foam instead of rubber. This was supposed to give better performance but instead the foam just breaks down over time and causes problems. The solution for this is a set of $700 (crew cab price) S&B Cab Bushings made of Silicone. Not only do these have plenty of give but they also will last the life of the truck and come with a lifetime warranty. DO NOT put the cheap poly bushings on your truck as these have no give and will rattle your truck to death. When it comes to F250 body mount bushings rubber vs polyurethane is usually the decision but really these Silicone S&B Filters body mounts are the way to go. They work for all the 6.4 and 6.7 powerstroke cab mounts including F250 and F350. We hope this video helps with your Super Duty F250 body bushing replacement. If you have any questions just hit us up in the comments.

Who Votes we do a 55 Gallon Tank swap on it next? ✋
That would be nice!
Nefarious Kustoms oh it’s happening! This 26 gallon tanks sucks!
i have been losing my mind trying to find this EXACT same rattle. these never even crossed my mind until today. i can now sleep peacefully. thank you.
Glad I could help
does the rattle sound like the shock hardware? havent driven the truck since i replaced cab bushings
I watched this video as I too was experiencing the rattle. It was super helpful. I did chuckle a bit when you showed the worn out bushing and called it “gone.” The one under my rear passenger side literally is gone, nothing left underneath but metal. Thank you for the awesome video.
Glad it helped!
I just changed the mounts in my 2012 F250 4 door long bed. I used the S&B mounts. Luckily that I have friend with a 12,000 pound lift. We only used manual tools. It kicked our asses, but we got it done. We didn’t have to remove any thing extra. No spinning nuts. We used a little heat on the bolts to break the Loctite.
good call
It’s those simple things that sometimes make the biggest difference. 🤘😎
David Leupitz very true. 👊🏻
My truck is doing this and it’s being fixed today. Drove me crazy
It’s always the driver rear bushings first to go! Also I’ll say I found out the hard way that u CAN spin the cage nut using a impact to break em loose, break loose by hand using some heat if needed w a brkr bar then ur good to go with whatever floats ur boat. Great video! thanks
You're right, the driver rear is the first to go.
Run the bolts through a die to get the loctite off and threads smoothed. If the body bolts are tightened to the correct torque they do not loosen. I slather them with grease after stripping off the loctite. The cab may have to be lifted for a repair and you might be the one taking those out again. I have had trucks that I had to do cab up repairs years after I did mounts. It made little hearts fly up and pop as I undid those easy-peasy cab bolts from no thread locker and lubed to reduce rusting..
hopefully I won't be doing any repairs like that any time soon
Nice! Always good to get some effective maintenance/upgrades done!
Nefarious Kustoms it’s a good time to do stuff like this no doubt.
Heat the head of the bolts with a torch for few seconds. All the bolts will come right out.
Marco Garza good call. The front cab ones were the only difficult ones
Also, use a breaker bar so you don’t strip out the piece that keeps the nut captive
At least yours were easy to take off. I have a 07 superduty and the freaking things are a beast to replace.
yeah it helps when you go somewhere that had done a few sets before
Just bought a set for my 06.
Made a big difference on mine
I watched a lot of vids before doing this on my 2015 F250. I heated the bolts and then slowly took them out by hand as did several coworkers who also have F250 and F350 trucks. I have a bunch of tools but am in no way a mechanic and do not have a helper or a lift. The only videos that I ran across that showed using an impact wrench were mechanics with full mechanic shops and tools. I won't say that I disagree with hiring a mechanic to do it this way but if you are at home and doing this alone on a sunday morning, heat the bolts and remove them by hand.
Yeah that’s the way to do it!
If you heated up the bolts that would have made getting the nuts off easier... It loosens up the factory locktite. We just did this on my company truck. It's a PITA
Seeyouonthetrail they were all super easy except the front cab mounts for some reason some heat on those would have helped for sure
I’m from bham bro I was excited when I heard you say you were doing your work here.
Tapco is a great place to take your vehicle to get worked on. If I can't do it myself I take it there.
Great video fellas! I need to get this done on my '05 6.0L ASAP.
I am glad that I did.
I cant find an s&b for a 6.0 only another brand
I'm about to have to replace mine on my 2011 f350 the foam bushing are completely gone💀 but I've heard that you don't wanna use an impact on the cab mounts cause of the soft metal around that area. But idk this is like the 5th video I've watched idk rather to do it myself or send it to the shop 🤔
Yeah using an impact is a bad idea for sure
Will these add more comfort to the ride as well? I purchased old truck new to me 2 years ago, first time truck owner. Never really wondered until now if the rough ride is a normal thing for trucks. I liked the police/ taxi cab vehicles always so soft and smooth. Is there a way to get a truck to ride that nice?
These will help the ride if your bushings are worn out for sure
The mounts that were accessed in the fender there's actually rubber plugs under the carpet. Pull the plug and use a socket on the nut.
Good to know
ya way easier to pill up the carpet. also not needed to remove fender liner. can get to the rad bushings from under the truck.
Nice job guys!😎👍
Thanks! 👍
Shittt... those look almost new. You dont wanna see what I'm doing to my 81 f100. Some fresh black caulk and they will look good enough for inspection lol. New ones look nice a nice upgrade for sure.
Tim Ort yikes that sounds sketchy
Dont have a lift, should I lift one mount at a time? I have a crew cab dually..thanks!
yes you can do it with a floor jack if needed
Ive known Nate since he was 15yrs old!
krover01 that’s cool, he needs to get back down this way for some wheeling. It’s been a minute.
It’s stupid that ford used to use the nice rubber ones now they are foam. I replaced mine on my 06 6.0 with I think daystar poly bushings and so far so good. Been a few years
The poly bushings didn't accentuate the rattles and vibrations?
BustedKnuckleVideo I’m gonna be honest, it might, compared to good stock ones or the one you had. But, I was comparing to blown out stock ones with my back passenger part of the cab hitting the frame all the time so it’s 100% better to me lol. But I will say, I’ve never thought to myself “ man these sure are stiff” or anything. But I’m sure the s&b ones kill what I have lol.
that makes sense. I know there is a big price difference that is why I was curious.
BustedKnuckleVideo true. I’m sure you probably got the best thing on the market and will be pleased.
#7.3ForLife 😊👍
I miss mine sometimes
I'm going with these S&Bs when my stock ones let go but they're still pretty good. Don't know why Ford hasn't changed them yet.
the foam ones are junk
I was going to go w s & b but just went w the daystars for the money. I don’t keep vehicles too long if anything. Truck already has 138k
Not as easy as it looks folks.
I have a 2011 F-250 with 183,000 miles on it. The ones up from were so rusted in there that I not only spun the cage nut but also broke the bold off up in there. As highly advised.. I did NOT (and DO NOT) use an impact gun. I heated the bolts up and even took the grill and headlights out to spray blaster on the top of the threads and still spun the cage nut and broke the bolts.
Now to get to the front cage nut to do surgery, I’ll have to drain all the coolant and A/C , remove all the lines, hoses and take out the radiators and removing the entire core support.
If you have a high mileage truck.. do yourself a big favor and trade the truck in before removing the front bushings!
yeah it happens
put heat on my with a torch and they all came out pretty easy!
that's a good idea for the front cab mounts
hey! any chance you could do a video on replacing body mount bushings on a 95 Bronco?
we actually did that- ua-cam.com/video/GIygQwZZqiA/v-deo.html
Appreciate the video! The actual how to video starts at the 2 minute mark if you dont wanna listen to the yada yada yada that leads up to it
Some people like the yada yada yada
Michael... I'm in Bham and need bushings on my F250.
Give them a call they can get it done fast.
What was the labor cost to have this done? The mounts on my 2013 crew cab are toast and I need to do this. I called the dealership, knowing they'd be high, but wanted to get an idea on labor. They were high alright. They said the whole cab had to come off. I guess technically they were correct. I'll find another shop here to help me, but was just curious what it cost you.
would have to call them and ask
What about rear bed mounts
Good video guys but the camera never actually got under the truck. But I do think that's the same thing that's wrong with mine. I have gas and 2wd. Thanks guys
The camera went under there a few times
There was a certain Mount on my f250 super duty crew that is completely gone, closer to the rear passenger door, that I didn’t see in the video. That’s all. But great video. I know what I have to do now. Thanks
It is worth it
Heat each for one min with torch never use impact
They might do the trick the blue wrench
I was told it would take 20 hours to replace them .
Does that sound about right ?
not even close, I was in and out of there in a couple of hours max
2 months down the road. what's your opinion of the ride and sound? i've heard there are issues with both for most aftermarket mounts
I couldn't be happier
Y'all needed a torch to heat the bolts enough to liquify the locktight. Then they'd come right out.
that would help for sure
I just sent mine to get done now my heated and cooled seats don’t work. Could they have messed it up
I wouldn't think so
My mechanic is quoting $1,600 and 10 hours. It would be with it to make a road trip to TAPCO for me.
shouldn't take them but a couple of hours if they have done them before
So my bushings are shot. Before you fixed it and would hit a bump did it feel like the cab was bouncing excessively? Im thinking the bushings are the reason for it and it rides like a pogo stick😂
It moved a lot
How many hours to replace ?
I was told by a mechanic 20 hours …
Sound right to you ?
Is it really bad to keep driving my truck until I can afford this work? My warranty does not cover this and the ford dealership said it would be $3,000
It shouldn’t hurt anything your body lines just won’t line up and it’ll be harsh rattle a bit
What leveling kit and shocks did you decide to go with?
Well it already has a cheap leveling kit. I still haven’t bought shocks. I think I’ll get the Fox adjustables
The rear cab bushings are shot on mine as well. If I loosen the back two, can I get the cab up enough to swap them without loosening all the other ones?
Would be better off just swapping them all
If you don’t mine, how much did it cost to replace the body mounts?
no idea, it took about 2 hrs at a normal shop right so I'd say $200-300 in labor
@@BustedKnuckleVideo oh wow not bad
How much was the labor charge to replace the body mount bushings? Thanks
no idea.
@@BustedKnuckleVideo I will call them tomorrow. Thanks
@@berniejagodzinski4030 Did you call and get a price? I was quoted $1800 at my local Ford dealership to replace them - and with standard Ford parts.
@@jaystarner I got the S&B mounts for $700.00 and the dealer charged me $680.00 to install them.
They recommend not using a impact js
yeah we don't typically do what we are told ha
So I have a 06 f250 4x4 changed the shocks still making loud clunking noise from the rear end only going over speed bumps but it sounds and sometimes feels like the bed is gonna break any ideas?
could be the body mounts, have you checked them?
@@BustedKnuckleVideo not yet how many would be on there I think I see two on each side of the tires
@@BustedKnuckleVideois body mound bushings the same as cab mount bushings?
Informative for sure! But, Ive done this job, no way that was an hr job!!
They’ve got it down to a science
took me 3 half days in 104* to do the cab and rad bushings. made a 3ft long braker bar to hold the nuts under the truck with my shin and undid the bolts in the cab.
How much to have done labor wise
Good question it really depends on where you are located. Shouldn’t be more than a couple hours of labor.
@BustedKnuckleVideo I called my local dealer and they said it's a 10 hr job and they wanted anywhere between $2400-$3900. I said no thanks. I would do it myself before I ever pay that.
Well there is your first problem. The dealer will always be the most expensive place to get it done.
Did the body lines line up? I missed that part ...
they did after the install
@@BustedKnuckleVideo lol...sarcasm
What size wrench do you need for the note on the inside
good question
So no recall from ford? They should have alot on this model!
nope they think it is a wear item
All Ford Trucks are this way. Some are worse with cab bolts installed from inside the cab instead of underneath. No other brand of truck uses those crappy threaded inserts that Ford uses either. Not do their bushings wear out so easily. It's a Ford thing. Love them or hate them.
How much y’all charge labor for that
have to call them and ask
150 bucks in labor? How much does this job cost to do?
not sure on that. It should take a minimum of 2 hrs
I mean,..... cool video however being a shop you should take this video down or do it right!
S&B says NO impacts and to use heat to break them loose!
They have done a ton of these and it worked so.....
I welded the body to the frame on my truck, yes it rides like shit, and its nosiey in the cab. No the body does not line up, no the it was not wise...
But i have 200 bucks for beer money....
Etid... my truck only has has 450,000 miles on it... 175,000 what a joke... :)
Bigger gas tank, its worth it!!
S&B actually hit me up today so you might see a big fuel tank going in soon!
Where can I buy these cab bushings ?
S&B Filters
The stock is silicone the aftermarket is polyurethane
the stock is foam actually. Aftermarket is Silicone. Poly is harsh in comparison.
@@BustedKnuckleVideo hmm i must have miss read. Im fixing to have to do mine and i went with poly for now because it was much cheaper as a temporary fix
the budget fix is to get the older rubber ones from the previous generation and swap them in.
That "Firestick" made it so I took em out with a 3/8 ratchet and socket....
Nice
must have been a southern truck! my metal shells are rusted together
yep, no northern trucks for me
What kind of sunglasses are those?
They are our own design. They are on sale right now- bustedknucklegear.com/collections/frontpage/products/party-shades-sunglasses
What about the energy suspension bushings vs s&b
Ride quality and longevity
I'm not familiar with the energy suspension. Aren't they made of poly which would be stiffer?
@@BustedKnuckleVideo thanks for the reply im really trying to justify spending almost 700 as I need to change mines on a 06 f350 dually and am new to this type of vehicle and finding out how expensive it is
The replacement rubber ones should be fine, the 6.7 trucks had foam ones for some stupid reason so that is why we replace them with these.
@@BustedKnuckleVideo ok thanks for the reply
glad to help
eye protection helps you immensely.
Not a bad idea
Easy with a new truck. Real trucks you can't replace bushings without rebuilding crushed mounts, torching out rotted hardware, cutting holes in the cab floor to reach the nuts. That's just to get out the old ones. Then the bolts don't line up in the holes because the frame is bent. After a week of squeezing the 4.5 death wheel where it should never go. Upside down welding and a trip to the ER with a spark lodged inside an eye. The new bushings are in but now the doors don't close, the fan hits the rad, the windshield cracked and the last bushing needed a two inch spacer from the machine shop to fit.
We did a set on a 95 Ford Bronco, that weren't that bad either
@@BustedKnuckleVideo rust belt here
where vehicles go to die
@@BustedKnuckleVideo Did you do the S&B bushings on that one (the Bronco)? Want to try a set for my 96 Chevy, furthest back application S&B shows is for a 2001. Although I think the 01 and 96 used the same body mounting parts.
Guy they were not S&B
Just called these guys for an estimate.
good call
can i have your old ones. ithink i can fix them
They were trashed, I threw them away. The only other thing you can do is buy some older 7.3 ones that are rubber. These foam ones are junk.
@@BustedKnuckleVideo yeah. i was kidding. mines an 03 6.0. ive got the rubber ones
Nathon Smithson they should have never changed them.
woa do not impact these on or off - my mouth dropped when he said impact lol
HA
Why? Why can't you impact it off?
breaks the nuts
Just found out our truck needs these dealership wants charge 1600$$ 😒
Niiice..
big difference.
I spotted a FJ40 👀
they work on all kinds of cool vehicles there
Matt love your videos, but seriously lose the two year old's sound track. Sounds like a kid did it.
I'm glad you love the videos, I can't help that our taste in music is different. I like all music.
Dude totally failed to heat those bolts and use a breaker bar?
no need.
@@BustedKnuckleVideo seems different than what most are saying, especially the ones spinning the cage nuts. As done in your video.
Only Ford Trucks have these issues. Buy another brand and the body mount problems also go away.
All brands have problems. We just like to show how to fix them so you can get the most out of whatever truck you drive.
Of course there now unavailable
yep
Mine is rattling like a bi@ch 307k miles
I bet
Squirell
Where?
Blah blah blah
clank clank clank if they don't get replaced
