It is an awesome alternative to the Pager. it is SOOOOO far from being a cellphone killer. It is a good alternative for being out in the woods except that you would have to know that there are people in the area that are also on it other wise you are messaging no one. This whole platform is only as good as the number of people using it. But its inability to easily handle voice data is going to hold it back. in an emergency no one is looking to text back and forth with EMS. they need to talk and give info quickly. I wish people would stop presenting this as the mobile phone replacement. It just isn't. I get that you need that tag line to get views but its basically just click baiting people. You should feel a little ashamed.
The guy is such a hack. So many times his audience has asked him to stop the BS clickbaity crap and just let the cool and interesting projects stand for themselves. He just can't resist. Half the video is spent on trashy self-gratification and making grandiose, baseless claims instead of on the tech itself. A shameful waste of potential and lack of self indulgence. I wish he listened to the subscriber base he already has. Edit: Have realized why all these ads just sound like infomercials... It is to farm clicks to his affiliate links in the description... Just gross. Honest reviews/information be damned apparently. Gotta farm those clicks!
1. Meshtastic Will Never Replace Your Cellphone in it current status! I dont recall that being the goal of the Meshtastic project. 2. That H2T is a f'd device for the moment. It fails to send more than one or two word transmissions. 3. What was the point of the video? Was it a product sales pitch, a promo, or avocado know better then all us fruit?
I don't think anyone's mentioned this yet, but the way you hold the antennas affects their polarization. The way you have it mounted on the drone makes it horizontally polarized, and the way you're holding it makes it vertically polarized. You might be losing more than half the reception you could be using for even greater distance. Maybe try mounting it differently or using a folding antenna so you can match the antenna polarization. Awesome work though, I'm definitely going to pick a few of these up because of them. 13:41
it's not a phone killer, it'll never be a phone killer, and that's 1000% fine. what it CAN be is a fantastic local texting alternative for when people are off-grid. or need local comms that are private. There are also concerns with any given mesh growing too large as it can easily become overloaded with message requests, particularly if you connect meshes together with an alternative fabric (like mqtt). meshtastic, especially when we're talking about longslow or heck, even longfast protocols. it's really only useful for MAYBE a couple hundred devices with packets every minute-ish and even with that, the mesh is likely to slow down to a crawl. it *is* really cool tech, but it's got about the same multi-hop communications value as multi-node amateur radio repeaters in terms of distance coverage / number of devices.
Cool experiment! I'm fairly ignorant about Meshtastic but I was wondering if I had one of these devices in, let's say a residential area of Kendall, would I be able to reach yours in Brickell/Downtown? Or that would only work if there is enough density of other Meshtastic devices in between? Does every Meshtastic device automatically route/forward messages to nearby nodes?
Those cases remind me so much of Digimon. My memory may be off, but that's what comes to mind. Mesh networking being worked on is very cool to hear about.
i just purchased the Growingdesign unit at 6:32 in your video. Thank you for making a video to help people understand the what it is. I just moved and working on setting up my Helium miner, plus adding the node to the mix. Should cover my whole community, and town 3 miles away with my antennas.
people saying phone replacement , not but maybe a start for a Grid replacement, this is a way to solve towers not phone , whe already have phones , and i like so much the idea of lora mesh , as the tech goes maybe some one find a way to send voice over and maybe net, ..
I want to see these changes but for the R1, i like the gps, and the additional battery life, but i don't really need a screen, or even buttons, at least for my use case. i'd love to see an R2, especially if they also do an R2 with the extended antenna like they have for the r1 on their site
How well would this work for Disaster Relief cases? I am considering using my experience in Software Development to develop a product cheaply, to give to local fire departments and police offices, and even churches to open up communications during a disaster.
From what I've read, meshtastic networking suffers horribly from collision space. It gets crowded quickly and responds to escalating traffic poorly. It's still neat, though, and should be on the watch list of people that are into SHTF tech.
Can't legally do the high altitude "Tethered Balloon " idea, per federal regs 14 CFR Part 101 - Moored Balloons etc, 101.13 Operating limitations (a) Except as provided in paragraph (b) of this section, no person may operate a moored balloon or kite: At any altitude more than 150 feet above the surface of the earth or Within 5 miles of the boundary of any airport (without permission). BUT, anything below 150 and not within an airport, seems to be ok as far as I know. (do your own research of course). 100 to 150' will still improve the range quite a bit for Line of Sight type signals.
Honestly that probably would help the network in your local area, as a mountain is a great geographical location for a node to relay messages across your area.
It's there a already build one? I live in Puerto Rico, here it could work very good because PR is 100x35 miles, if you have it build plrase tell me where to buy, thanks
Yeah. The title and content are clickbait and grossly exaggerate the utility of these things, but I like the idea. I don't like it enough to buy one because I'm at least 50 miles from the nearest node, and that node is close enough to only a few nodes, all of which are more ten miles from other nodes, and I don't know any of these people anyway. I kayak and hike in remote areas occasionally, but one of these things wouldn't help me out of a tight spot, and my phone usually works even where I wouldn't expect it, like deep in the Okefenokee Wildlife Refuge. A meshtastic node almost certainly wouldn't. A satellite device, like a Garmin InReach, would offer a little security but not enough to justify the price. If an alligator attacks, my time has come, but my trips to the Okefenokee are worth a few years off of my life expectancy. Alligators never attack people anyway. They fear me more than I fear them.
"military grade carbon fiber PLA" UHHHHHHH This guy doesn't seem dumb, which means he is one of these three things; a script reader with no understanding of what he is saying, a compulsive liar, or more realistically - a sellout shill who may have used to be trustworthy, but has since, unfortunately, chosen money over truthful communication. Or... ORRRR, he actually thinks pla with carbon fiber powder- is a legit military material. you know, instead of like- carbon fiber....
i already have brilliant and that shitty ring, can you pls put more ads in your videos? also the title can be more clickbaity, like: SO LONG INTERGALACTIC QUANTUM TUNNEL COMM DEVICES, THIS OVERGLORIFIED TEXT BASED WALKIE-TALKIE IS THE FUTURE OF ALL COMMUNICATION

Loved the drone idea. A Balloon should do it better!

This video reads like an ad, this is a sales pitch and they've probably already been paid.

For the drone he needs a 90⁰ degree connector
Phone Killer? We love phones
I just informed a local search and rescue team about this product. They say it’s worth exploring
Bring back "BBM" from BlackBerry days. BBM was ultra reliable on September 11th when cell phone services were down in NY.

I like the idea of leaving nodes for long-term with a bit of solar power. Would it be possible to remotely check on the status of those nodes?

Sounds like one hell of a shit storm.
@@AmbrociousXP well done. I see what you did there
The way the antennas are mounted kills me 🤣
"It's been a good run, phone providers"
>4 bars of signal
the phone killer title didnt bring the views this time

combine a large Lora Relay with one of those large solar/battery-powered electric propellered gliders with an automated flight path circling the town.
This is what I want to do. Can you tell me how or point the direction?

Great video again. I wanted to know your thoughts on which board is the best for doing this? The one from Part 2 or Part 3?
It's not proprietary... It's open source. 1:07
Yeah I double taked on that (double took?)
Tbh thats a weird thing to even vet wrong, meshtastic being open source is sorta its whole shtick
GMRS with GPS and Text is the way to go
No, it's not a phone killer and never will be, but he needs to get your click somehow, so he lies.

If there's a height restriction you just put it below the height restriction
I live on a hill overlooking a metro area. Can I help this project by putting a radio on my roof?
Honestly that probably would help the network in your local area, as a mountain is a great geographical location for a node to relay messages across your area.
The idea is old but its about time the technology got better.
Smartphones aren't going to be replaced for a long long time.
We need this the size of a button, to put on a cat collar. 🙂
It's an interesting idea, thinking it'd have more utility for a dog? Would just want to figure out where to send the GPS data and how.
Is it finally as efficient as RAKwireless?
So out of all 3 which one would you get as all of them are below $100
theres no backdoor or hacks to break into these devices already?
anyone made a guide on what exactly to buy and what how to build it ? i'm so confused
I'm probably misunderstanding this because of the clickbait title but yeah no to me that just seem gimicky and will probably never take off.
You dont underatand how any of this works do you.
It's there a already build one? I live in Puerto Rico, here it could work very good because PR is 100x35 miles, if you have it build plrase tell me where to buy, thanks
It depends on the manufacturer, I just bought one that came pre-built from seeed, but there’s other options too!
the whip antenna 915MHz RP-SMA M or 915MHz SMA M
Thanks for posting
So can we create a network at least a few thouthands of such devices. How will they find the proper receiver then?
Good stuff.
Here you go again.

*casually, so as to hope they don't notice* 'NGO workers...'
Do RTK GPS over LoRa give me that sweet cm level precision with no cell modem.
need some weather proofing
no seals or gaskets from the looks
There's a lot of things to limit this product becoming the next buzz
It should handle tens or even hundreds of km, under a mile even you're drone can transmit HD video lol
Hello I joined your Member's club
why is your voice modulated? it's grating

If this is a phone killer, then your late to the party. Meet the walkie talkie. But seriously, this is pure clickbait.
This channel sells crazy stuff. What's the point of this
This has exciting possibilities. I wonder how big carriers and government will try and screw it up.
