The reason why he finishes it so quick is because they all have the same facial features
Why discredit him? Even if they have a similar face template drawing a character with that level of detail would take most far longer for most, unless you’re claiming to be some sort of Picasso. Literally make your own art instead of complaining about artists drawing the facial features they want to draw.
@@Z0Z33KY they're not discrediting him. It's quite true and his also working on improving that part.
@@Z0Z33KY its critic and i don't really whats wrong pointing on it so he could improve more
@@kordact discrediting someone’s work is not critique. saying he struggles with same face syndrome is fair but it’s rude saying “no wonder he takes such short time” I’ve been practicing art for awhile and even if I was drawing characters with the same face template it’d still take me quite a bit to do what he does. dude is still putting a lot of effort and work into it.

if you are talking about sam, he draws poc ????
@SimplyBee yeah, but it's like 1 in 100, you scroll through his instagram and it's 90% white ppl
@@simplybeezknees colour variation is there for people of all colour. There are various hues in every persons skin. Depicting that has a huge difference in the overall drawing and makes it significantly better.
It's just a drawing preference chill
He also doesnt use any time to make his characters look different
Edit: i also just want to add, i could say manny positive things abt sam because he is quite talented. However theres a few negative things i can say and thats okay because not every artist is perfect :)
(Including myself)
Edit 2: love that everyone has passionate opinions on here lol, again im not trying to hate on sam at all !! I just like giving criticism (as well as receiving it) with different artists! I think sam is very talented specifically in the way he colours his art, but when i used to watch his videos i noticed that a lot of his drawings look like the same face but with different hair/eye colour. Also i definitely see the appeal in his style because its very Disney cartoon vibes as-well as being vibrant! Anyways that is all :)
Literally, thought I was looking at a bunch of npcs 😂
I mean there’s not a lot of creative room when 90% of references are Asian women ((or just Asian people in general))

I mean he can draw what he want. It looks great to me. And if he likes his drawing than there is nothing wrong with it.
that "color variation" is called subsurface scattering. it's when light passes through the skin and diffuses underneath. the color of it depends on the light, the skin, and the body part
oh that's cool!
He's very good at what he does, it helps that he draws the same face over and over again cause he's refining the one type hes good at.
Uh he's good at a hell of a lot more than one type. Just happens to draw that one alot

the real reason SDA can draw so fast is because hes been drawing the same woman with different hair for years.
Lmaooo
mans not obligated to draw anything other than that, artists are free to draw whatever they want as long as it isn’t racist or some dumb shit
he draws men fast too
Well to be fair he takes reference from Disney characters that's why his paintings come out looking the same
@@quirma6471of course he’s not obligated to draw out of his comfort zone, but i don’t think he’s very fit to give art advice when it comes to facial structure which i’ve seen him do… if you struggle from same face syndrome then in my opinion, you’re in no position to be giving facial advice. even in his videos where he “fixes” his fans drawings, he just makes the characters look like that one woman he ALWAYS draws
mans really gave us the cheat code
while his painting skills are applaudable, Sam is only capable of drawing one single type of facial structure and one single skin tone, it's pretty but there really isn't much variety to his stuff besides ''cute asian looking chick''
“ There are many things i like to finish in many strokes”
- i like this guy.
He also fixes any wonky anatomy or perspective with the liquify and warp tools at the end
You can make relatively complex art quickly by doing some background work before you start your piece.
Familiarize yourself with your art style by creating a legend of different body parts and facial features at different angles, experimenting with different shapes and sizes.
This way, you’re not constantly struggling to figure out how a character should look, which will eventually speed up the drawing process.
As for easy colouring, start with your mid tone, your darkest ambient occlusion, and the tone between those two. After that, you can pull out additional values and add specularity. The closer to the light and the smoother the object, the more intense the specularity.
If it’s a darker object, reduce your range of values: matte dark uses a few darker values, shiny dark uses sharp gradations from light to dark unless it’s translucent, then it would need more values for a mirror-like quality.
The colour of the light shows up the strongest in shadows, but also a bit on the main tones, so if you have blue ambient light like the sky, there will be blue in the shadows of your subject, with smaller hints in the light. The stronger the light, the lower the range of values.
Consider using families of colour for your subject as well. Have a light and dark family for each different coloured object on it, and be sure the values are no lighter or darker than anything in the opposite family.
Like the video said, use big, sloppy zones of colour before you refine. This will allow you to preview how your piece will look before it’s finished and establish a visual language.
Yooo thank you for this comment, it's really helpful!
TY! ^^
Great tips. Would esp. recommend a beginner to not worry about how much time it takes to finish a piece though. Take your time and focus on whatever element you're trying to learn. Long-term, you'll get your own efficiency markers and make sure your work is evolving.
"Artistically challenged"💀
😂😂😂😂 same here. I'm too artistically challenged😅😅
I always see people trying to replicate his style
I'm sorry to say that buddy but you don't have a style right now. No one is going to see your art and say it's yours, they are going to say it's Sam's art
Please stop trying to replicate a style perfectly, just take what you like from a style, then from another, and add it to your own art
Sam basically admitted that he makes most of the subjects in his paintings have the same face. What’s impressive to me is his rendering, it’s really impressive
As much as I'm not into the style, I do agree with his methods to paint for the algorithm.
People seem to forget that artists aren't exactly machines and most are now stuck between working on more holistic artwork and painting stuff to post on time.
It's bloody fucking irritating when I have to carve out time from my day after working to paint the bloody social media piece, and _then_ work on my portfolio piece.
The pros ofc, are that you do improve a little or learn to streamline your process. Cons are that you don't actually improve a whole lot if you have to rush a post every/other day. Painting with focus is the only key to improving on the long haul.
It's weird, this new consume-and-trash culture we've got.
true though, as a university student, i only manage to draw one full body a week!
It's earned him an absolute ton of money though, I guess at this point with such a good income he should branch out a little
Sam's artstyle may be suffering from same-face syndrome😅, but his technique in presenting the background/environment are amazing and add to that the time it takes for him to paint each of his artwork which averages at less than 2hrs is just impressive
Who the fuck can draw for more than 2 hours??? It might just be that the reason i can't sit still for 2 hours long is because i have adhd but wouldn't painting get boring after 2 hours????
i also have adhd. personally i tend to hyperfixate on my art which helps me spend long stretches of time on it all at once
I spent 8 hours on an artwork once haha, I find the process fun but I also dont do it in one sitting
i always spent more than 10 hours in a full body background art
good for ai,bros work will b part of ai algorithm soon

Ok but he usally only draws girls…
step one: have same face syndrome
Another way to learn art tips is by watching mother kooleen
if you spend enough time drawing the same face just different hairs, you too can draw portraits in 1 hr
no it still takes skill man wtf! theres a lot of artists who cant really “draw” per say but render very well. it doesnt mean they are worthless like what? evry artists has their strengths and weaknesses.
@@lergia he…never said they were worthless? Reaching much?
@@lergia I think what they were trying to say is that when you draw the same thing multiple times, you develop muscle memory and it’s easier to draw faster and more effectively therefore, it is possibly the reason why those drawings take around an hour.
It is true that it takes skill to get to that point but it is also unappealing to certain people to see drawings with little to no variation.
If people can like his drawings and express their opinions so can the ones who don’t, as long as both parties are respectful and open minded.
he acknowledged it in a video but yeah
@@lergia what???
I genuinely developed a similar process to this because I enjoy the wild feeling of it and I hate being meticulous. 💀
I'm glad that I'm not the only one who doesn't use more than 2-3 colors to shade 😂

Looks kinda like your style, wonder if he was an inspo?
he mastered drawing the exact same face down to the last minute detail from different angles. thats it. oh and he also drew a kid in a way that was, in his own words, attractive to him. a kid.
are u talking abt that video he made where he drew his OC in a few different ways including as a child? because like, he said it was cute but not in THAT kind of way.
@@asuraa5296 oh no, im talking about where he said he drew ellie from the last of us show in a way that made her attractive to him. ellie was depicted as 14 in that one.
I haven't watched the video you're talking about, but I wanted to say he might've meant something more along the lines of it being pleasing to the eye artistically. Like proportions, color, silhouette, etc. If it's very clearly not that, then it's concerning, but he could've just made a bad word choice. Idk though, again I have no other context than what you said
@@honeydew-ii2fq it was a response to a comment on one of his socials, something along the lines of “i draw the same face because it’s what i find attractive as a straight man”, but i believe it was before he posted the art in question. still didn’t look good for him at all.
He’s just a generic misogynistic artist.
He doesn’t know how to draw men, his characters all look bland with the same face and age…
…and I wonder what kind of drawings he would do if he had any anatomy knowledge, because this guy can’t draw bodies at all.

I have everything to do digital art and still don’t know how to draw 💀💀
Dont you mean samdoesfarts from kooleen
The first drawing you did wasn’t trash, in fact all you need is a few curved lines less retracing and if you want more free space but I think it looked quite stylized
because he only draws one thing
No actually he’s draws cats and dogs and does a lot of stuff so………. it’s OK if you just draw one thing plus how do you know it doesn’t post all of his art….
@@Sunnyfrenchie789 dont stick up for him im allowed to talk shit
His art would’ve been better if it wasn’t mostly filled with Pinterest girls
I used to prioritize being fast when I was younger. Although I am an incredibly fast illustrator, I'm not too fond of this method. Obviously it's subjective and every artist is different. Which is why I think Sam's method is a bad foundation. I use several colors for skin alone and use a lot of texture in my pieces. On average, I finish my pictures within a range of 4-8 hours. Which is still really good if you want to freelance.

idk if he does that in less than 2 hrs. I did that but use a layer shade method where i just create layers on same layers darken each top layer. Erase and subtract for light parts. Faster than color filled shadows i guess.
This is useful to learn but I need to be able to draw without a reference. I want to get into comics and being able to draw without a reference for a pose it very important.
to draw without a refrence you need to draw with refrences first and develop your muscle memory. Figure drawing and croquis will help you a tooon!

To paint fast you need to paint slow first and get so comfortable with that you can start simplifying
What app is he using
Problem:he has same face syndrome 😮😢meaning he draws the same face style like same eyes shape and mouth which makes all the people the same no hate just saying
So does koolen LOL. neither artist has much creativity in their faces, sam draws the same old beautiful ladies and koolen draws the same beautiful ladies and men. It is a stylistic choice and that’s their choice, they really don’t care what people have to say since they love drawing what they want, though some can argue they BOTH have same face syndrome and we can’t change it so it’s fine ☺️
It seems the artist only draws the same face.
he also only draws women he finds attractive, this also goes when he draws 14 yr olds

yall in the comments are tripping and hating on SDA for no reason. i know you mask your real intention by calling it "criticism" or "facts", but i know yall just dont like SDA as a person.
i dont follow him but i scrolled through his ig till the bottom and seriously yall are crazy, his composition is different enough with each art and theyre all good, sure he got a lot of portraits than characters on a bg but so what???
and so what if he only does one type of face and one type of girl? a lot of artists does too. i do too. i mostly draw men with pretty much the same facial structure and body proportion but so what????
let artists do what they wanna do with their art. as long as its not morally fucked, leave them alone. let them find their style themselves. why is it yalls hobby to control people? "oh he has a platform and a lot of followers so he has to cater to literally everyon, if he doesnt then he's a crook of an artist!! >:(((("
yalls are bunch of babies.
Exactly! And people on TikTok have been accusing of him of being a perv or fetishizing women and that’s totally not the case. I swear people on the app can be a bit too sensitive about rising artists like Sam and koolen. I love Sam and I know his art can be a bit repetitive but you should never hate the artist, you can just dislike their work and let them be instead of echoing critics that they’ll never even see or they use it as a joke to make more content lmao.
The weird color variation is "sub surface scattering!" Basically translucent skin showing pink underneath
What is the name of the app?
who team kooleen? just me?
I really don't mind that artists cling to a certain style. It means they found a way to show what they want to show, and/or get as much likes as they want, and/or spend as much time on piece as they want to. Whatever important to them. I believe that simplicity and beauty is a result of years of hard work
ill pass, im more of a kooleen type of person
You can use his approach but first gotta master the drawing. In the other hand if you mastered to some extent then your style does not matter much. Generally speaking. Not for one individual.
The “colour variation colour” is sub surface scattering
And I'm over here drawing one eye in 10 hours.
