- Jaguar XKR project this week:
this is part 2 of the twin pull pump replacement, we managed to get them both fitted up with a bit of contortion to my limbs. But will it solve the non starting problem?! - Авто та транспорт
Glad I’ve found this! I’ve got a 2001 XKR project and the fuel pumps is the first job to try and get it running!
Hi buddy, welcome along to the channel 😀
Thank you very much. Very helpfull to me.
Glad it's helped you out buddy 👍 🙂
I like your videos, don' change anything. Always a good watch, sound effects and all.
Hi John. That's very kind of you to say so buddy, i think it's just where im getting old the moans and groans just naturally come out😀
Brilliant work there Simon. I'm really looking forward to seeing the next step in getting this beast of a car back on the road!
Thanks buddy. Im excited for the next bits to sort out 👍
Very excited for you Simon. Can’t wait for the next adventure 👍
Cheers Steven, I appreciate that buddy 👍
Great work Simon...exciting times ahead.
Let's hope so Steve, the knocking is a little troubling, but I'm hoping it's a supercharger issue and not anything more sinister 👍
Good work Simon, onwards and upwards 👍
Cheers John, I need to check the brakes out so I can test the gearbox properly and stop the car!
@@projectsinthebarn probably wise 😁
Well done with the pumps from a fellow Jag You Tuber - I'm sure it won't be too long to get it running right.
Thanks buddy, that's much appreciated, I'm sure we can get it sorted 👍
Hi Simon, great success 👌 but knocking scares me a little. Continued success.😮
Good morning, Udo,
yes, I am very pleased that I managed to get it started. I went out to the car again yesterday as another subscriber said he saw my car for sale on Facebook before I bought it, listed with timing chain failure!
Surely, if the timing chain had failed, I would never have gotten the car started?! Low compression would be there and / or valve damage??
So I started it up again, and the knocking is definitely coming from the supercharger. It sounds awful!!
So more investigation is needed, but I'm sure we will get there 👍
@@projectsinthebarn Hope so, you in right.👍🇬🇧
Definitely wouldn’t be timing chain, I agree
Nice work buddy you'll soon sort that knocking noise out ! Is there no OBD2 code for the check engine light?
Thanks, James, that's much appreciated, buddy. I have checked the codes, and there were 4 of them. Mostly misfire and emissions related. I have now cleared the code, and the engine light has gone out.
After I have serviced it and get the supercharger sorted, I will get it on a run and see what's what.
Hopefully, it's something of nothing.
Wow exciting my love❤
It's a step in the right direction mum 👍
Definitely my love 👌
Good work! So the wires sit inside the fuel tank with the pumps?
Thanks Andrew, yes the wires all go back inside the tank. That's how it all comes out originally 👍
Hello Sir, can you please tell me how you managed to get the little bolts out and then back in, one-handed? Other than that, I should be able to do mine without too much difficulty. Thank you!
Hi there and thanks for getting in touch buddy. They are a little fiddly to be honest, but it's just a case of feeling for the holes and going slow. A magnetic socket would also be a great help.
You have to be a bit of a contortionist to do the job, but it's well worth trying yourself 👍
@@projectsinthebarn Thank you. I appreciate the information. Great job working on your car. It's a great vehicle. I've had mine for 16 years.
@@centaurld6442 my pleasure buddy, hope you manage to get it sorted. There is a more detailed video on changing the fuel pump in my earlier XK8 video series, which may be worth having a look at. That's a long time to own one car, so you must really love it 😀
That knocking sounds more like timing than supercharger, because I think iremember seeing this car for sale on Facebook and thay said it had a timing failure 😢😢😢
Which would also explain the miss fireing 😢😢
Hi Edward, thanks for your comments buddy. I would be interested to see the Facebook advert, I bought it from ebay and the previous owner has had it since 2004. The knocking is deffo coming from the top of the engine, supercharger area. There doesn't appear to be any noise from the timing gear or chains, it's really quiet up the front of the engine.
But you never know, I guess over the course of time we will find out buddy 👍
@@projectsinthebarn I'll try and find the advert, but I've heard supercharger coupler knock before and its a deeper sound than that. An easy way to see if the supercharger is making any noise, is take the belt off and rock the supercharger pully left and right to see if you have any knock, it shouldn't be to much on an engine of your mileage.
@edwardjb1021 cheers buddy, that would be much appreciated, and thanks for the tip on the pulley test, I will deffo give that a go 👍 I've had the timing belt go on a couple of cars previous which has killed the engine completely, unless this one has slipped on the chain to throw the timing out??
@@projectsinthebarn i cant find the advert but i have got the pictures from it if you would like me to send them to you
Do you know where the sender unit is kn this?
Hi buddy, I have not had any dealings with the sender unit itself, so I could not offer any real-life experience on it, I am afraid. Google would be my friend in this instance.
Sorry I can't be any more specific for you.

Here you go, buddy. I found this great illustrated guide, which seems very clear. I hope this helps 🙏
@@projectsinthebarn thanks!! Much appreciated
@ocwolfy you are very welcome. It looks a straightforward enough job, so good luck with it, buddy 👍
Good job but, would of been more professional to use large jubilee clips around the pumps. 😉
Hi buddy, I take your point on board. I don't think they needed anything to he honest as they were in there nice and tight, as the original ones were. I just thought it may help, just in case, but I'm sure a large metal clip would have been a more permanent solution as you suggest 👍
Also that ticking noise is more than likely a plastic part at the back of the supercharger, there's an upgraded part available from one of the specialists online.
My 4.2 has just started doing that but not quite as loud yet, it's recommended not giving them welly as it can cause catastrophic failure.
@bespincustompropsbombarta8300 that's great info, I really appreciate you taking the time to let me know. I'm sure it is from the supercharger too, so it will be deffo coming off for a service before running it properly 👍
