- Today in Ethiopia, the Second Italo-Ethiopian War is in full swing and Haile Selassie will have to take direct command to ensure his nation's survival from the Italian invaders. If and when the colonizers have been beaten however the fight will not be over.
Along the way we will be going for the achievement This Time For Africa. Ethiopia will further the struggle for African Independence, they will fuel the armed struggle and demand the imperial powers to leave the contintent for good, through any means necessary.

Starting off 2023 by using one of the unused 2022 ideas, thing is though I like playing Ethiopia for the most part so more chances to play em are nice. I am curious though, what do you want to see me do in Hoi4 this year? Of course guides, challenges, gameplay and What's The Point are welcome but so are other things if you can think of them.

Fascist Bulgaria or something Italy would be nice. "What's the point of anarchist Ethiopia" would also seem like a good option!

Do 5th Empire Portugal! It's a really weak nation that through a bit of grinding in China can become a powerhouse !

absolutely they should add this to anti-colonial crusade. This is a great example why tfw focus trees needs serious reworks. They are so old and really useless
I had that thought when I first played Ethiopia. The gameplay after beating the Italians is just an improved South Africa.
the Support South African Independence decision does not work as South Africa cannot become free if they did not select the focus Abandon Westminster. I can only hope with paradox reworking old DLC focuses they fix this oversight.
In my trial I federalized the country. That way, even if FR, UK, ES, BEL or POR refuse to recognize the new country and it capitulates, it won't matter as they stay in your faction and you are safe as long as you don't call in your surrounding (federalized) puppets.
But Britain and Portugal and Belgium, which all of them drag each other into the war, always conquer the formed state, the way to get this is for them to recognize the new country
This is true I was just disappointed that the puppets didnt count for the achievement (Somalia and Eritrea didnt even count for me, but I did release them from federalizing it)
I actually like this route. It give something to do as Ethiopia after war with Italy but you don't have to go to war again and can just develop peacefully while you watch African rise up.
I've done Ethiopia a few times, and I've noticed that when you Lend-Lease the Comintern boys, the shipments have a "no viable route" tooltip. Has anyone checked if you actually get what you ask for when you Lend-Lease as Ethiopia? Since I rush Scavenging Tactics I usually don't have supply problems to bother checking.

I found the Spanish and Portuguese AI put Martial Law on when their resistance began to increase so I focused on the Allies. Also, Free France usually goes no garisson, so it's very easy to boost in the states they take from Vichy.
I feel like the reason the get rate is so low is because people don't go down African unity there's just a lot more interesting paths
The only time i have gone northern thrust as ethiopia was for the red sea achievement as you need eritrea for the achievement.
Why would you not take victory in the north? It really helps with the mountains while the deserts arent too hard to push through

How do you savescum in the cureent version? If I just close HOI4 with the Task Manager, my save becomes corrupted and unplayable.
Copy and paste the save, then if needed paste and replace in the saves folder.

Question about the Spanish colonies: Can you make the Republic of the Rif rise up or does the Spanish Morocco state default to Morocco even if Rio de Oro doesn't have enough resistance?

When I went for the achievement and the british colonies reached their uprising lvl they wouldnt uprise but be released as british puppets what I found absolutely stupid and it happend to me more than once so I abbandoned the achievement
Were you playing on ahistorical AI focuses? You may have gotten unlucky and seen Britain take the decolonization focus a few times. They shouldn't do that on historical AI focuses.
You should play as Ethiopia in ww1 and join the central powers
idk why but when i tried it it just gets stuck on like 70% resistance and wont get higher, or when it actually does rise up, it for some reason always flips to communist or fascist and joins the axis therefore they always reject the peace with them. help?
If you do it all right and bit of luck you get get all but one Ethiopia achievement in a single game since you can move to Palestine and still do African union focus.
I agree that this system makes way more sense than what S-Africa has regarding the anti-colonialism system.

just go in your paradox interactive doc, search for "save games" and you manually copy and paste your save :)
Can't remember if I told you or not. Finally got achievement in 1945. Italy initially refused peace deal in 1938 when I booted them from Ethiopia and then dragged Germany into war with me. Needless to say this made it more difficult to do uprisings and secure the homeland. Many of the uprisings refused to join my Faction and then get crushed. I think I later found out that if you go to war against their owners who refuse to allow them freedom they automatically join your faction, but may drag other puppets into war. And I think even if they capitulate they still count as one of the 13 members. Anyway it was a long hard road but I got it. Thanks Bubbles.

No, I've done it a few times, almost no one noticed everytime. It doesn't add anything and it slows down video making, making it more of a pain than it already is.
