Love to see Daigo using that Focus/Throw 4 button tech on wake up, and then making sure to keep his meter below 3 so that he's able to use that option without worrying about red focus coming out. Amazing meter management.

I want to remind everyone that there was only a three week difference between when these two fought each other. Its rather frightening how much Daigo picked up about Smug in such a short time.
Smug should have picked up on two things. 1. Done acual block strings because daigo realized everything he was doing werent actual block strings. Thats why he kept getting dped. 2. Stopped hitting buttons after the knockdown. Daigo, as the commentators pointed out, knew smug loved hitting buttons after a knockdown. Smug in my opoinion could have played a little better if he adapted. Im a huge fan of his and seeing him get destroyed like that sucks haha. Im also a fan of daigo. Props to his match against smugs dudly

I'm assuming Daigo's been grinding against a resident Dudley in Japan in Kokujin, who used to play Dudley in Third Strike but was inspired to try playing him again in USF4 due to Smug's success. And the Japanese players certainly learned their fill, especially Smug's tendencies to do that overhead on wakeup which took American players couldn't figure out but at least Daigo and Itazan realized this.

The only piece of studying Daigo had of Smug was his first game against him when he realized he likes to press buttons, and go for non true blockstrings..

Similar to how Daigo had a year of being basically free to Infiltration until he adapted and then started returning the favor. But at the same time, Daigo has been in top form lately running over most people he's come across.

yeah. Its funny how daigo doesn't play E-Ryu like how E-Ryu should be played. Like he just gets meter and fishes for a low forward kick confirm to go into his thing. I've heard that Sako and to an extent, Snake Eyez plays E-Ryu a lot more toward the cleaner high execution end of things.
