    Agreed! IL-2 is super fun! Got into it through covid and was playing on multiplayer servers with my dad and brother in law.
    Remember IL2 also has the Tank Crew modules. Which can have some special moments all of its own.
    But I do need to call you out on something; you mention that this game is often on sale for $8, and mention all the planes available to fly. However, a very important thing that you forgot to mention was that not all the planes are available when buying the base game. To fly the mossie, you need to buy a module, to fly ww1 planes you need to buy a module, some campaigns need to be purchased etc. To own all content at full price you'd need to spend USD $1,272.60. Getting things during sales is obviously WAY better, but it's still a considerable investment.

    • @laubox
      @laubox  5 місяців тому +3

      Hi mate! Thank you for your detailed answer, love it! You are right! IL2 has many modules and you will have to put your wallet upside down to get all of them:D my friend had bought 2 modules when on sale for 16 dollars and can fly quite some planes in multiplayer servers. But yeah, people should take in mind that there are some collector planes too etc.
      Totally forgot about the tank gameplay! I haven't tried it myself. Is it any good in vr?

    • @phunkaeg
      @phunkaeg 5 місяців тому +1

      @@laubox Yeah, the tank gameplay is good. Not sure how it compares to that other tank game which you checked out a while back, in this you have no motion control hands.
      It's fun to play through the campaign but the learning curve is steep, there is a lot of tension being in the tank crew compared to in a plane. You're slow and have terrible visibility. Tactics are all about knowing the capability of your tank, and studying the map to know how to get information without giving it away.
      It just feels like a different game. When playing in a multiplayer server you can look up, and see all the fighter planes dogfighting overhead. THAT is pretty cool getting that sense of scale and knowing you can be targeted by those same planes.
      Oh, caveat. Because you're so close to the ground, most maps don't look great that close up, but the Tank Crew specific map Prokhorovka looks great, and has some other features like destructable buildings. Wolfpack345 had a good playthrough if you wanted to see how it played.
      Another fun distraction from planes is driving one of the collectable vehicles, the AA trucks. They're HARD to master, but satisfying when you do lead a target properly. I'd watch the tutorial videos done by Requiem to see how its done.

      The WW1 stuff is very, very good. Feels like you’re trying to aim whilst bouncing on a bungee cord. Totally different to the WW2 aircraft.

    I have DCS, MSFS and IL2. Each of us has different interest and preferences. For mine, IL2 is the preferred solution. Now if you prefer more modern military aircraft then DCS would probably suit you better. If you want to fly a 747 into JFK or LHR then MSFS is a great choice. I'm into WWII history especially the Eastern Front. For WWII nothing currently available comes close to IL2. I've used it with monitors along with head tracking and in VR. If you're going to use a monitor I can't recommend a head tracker enough. In VR I've used a Reverb G2 and Varjo Aero. For VR you will have to have a computer with a powerful graphics card. I personally have experienced fewer challenges operating VR with IL2 than I have with DCS or MSFS. Others may have had different experiences. IL2 is currently working on a new battle series and initial reports indicate it will be Korea. This new series also appears to be built around an improved game engine that will be better suited to the capabilities of the current graphic cards.

    • @scratchsescape1978
      @scratchsescape1978 Місяць тому +1

      @@AngelusFromHell I can't say for sure. For the more demanding headsets I would say no. I'm struggling to get the settings right with a 4090 in DCS and MSFS with the Varjo Aero. I once had everything dialed in with MSFS and it was great. Back when I was flying real stuff I had flown in and out of JFK. A300 and 777 but never a 747. I got to do some MSFS flying in the 747 into JFK and it was like old times. I unfortunately I tried to tweak the settings and everything went down hill and I haven't been able to restore it. You might have better luck with something like a G2. In IL2 you might get by with lower settings. I have the settings high and I get 40-50 fps in IL2. Remember though I have zero experience with the RTX 4070 and have never used a Ryzen processor. I'm using an I9-12900k plus a 2TB m.2 and 32 gigs of DDR5. Liquid cooled with EKWB components. I'm not overclocked.

    Flying Circus, so IL2-WW1, is especially amazing. As planes are slower, the whole battle happens in much smaller spaces, enemies are closer, and you get a much better view of the enemy and sense of scale. In my opinion Flying Circus is one of the best, if not the best VR experience.
    I have to admit even after a decade casually playing this game I mainly do "instant fight" and never gotten much into single player content. Missions are often very long and difficult to follow, you easily get lost, you don't find your target, well generally speaking nothing is done to make it player friendly it seems. I always had the feeling the the game was primarily aimed at multi-player and single player was just a side feature.

I used a 3070 for a year or so and 8GB was a bit restrictive so upgraded to a 3090ti which gives me 60fps with most graphics settings on med or high. You’d have to dial everything down on yours, clouds, trees, buildings etc. You don’t say which HMD you use or if you run it on Steam or OpeXR, these also affect the image quality. I use OpenXR with Open Composite on a Reverb G2 to bypass steam and then use OpenXR Toolkit to up the res and sharpness. Spotting distant planes in VR is always a little harder than flat screens due to the lower res so you need to try and increase that as much as your gpu will allow. There are no magic ‘best settings’ as every rig is different , so you just start with everything on the lowest settings and change them one at a time to see how it affects performance. I’ve never changed anything in the Nvidia control panel, everything is on default except power settings set to maximum performance.

      I don't have any issues on my 2070 super and I run high settings with default quest 3 link cable resolution. Dial your settings down. Or change the settings for your headset itself and turn down your resolution. If i can maintain stable frames then you definitely can. Unless you bottlenecked yourself with your cpu. This game isn't graphically demanding at all. Of course VR makes it more demanding by default, but its not bad since the game isn't graphically demanding in the first place. Its cpu intensive. So if your cpu isn't good then you won't get the best performance. Newer games aren't cpu demanding unless you're using raytracing and pathtracing. You can test this by going into missions with no AAA vs many AAA. the models are low poly and very basic animation. Not gpu heavy in the slightest. But it can tank your frames. Why? because they eat up the cpu since its a sim and every asset is doing and calculating something. You can also test your bottleneck by using the time compression. If you use it and your game doesn't speed up or isn't properly speeding up to your selected time compression (x2 is all that matters, most of the community can't go past x2 successfully) then the culprit is most likely your cpu
