Former 2nd Bn myself, ole Dixie Dean was, RSM 2nd Bn, and Mr Batt was actually my PC with 12Plt, 3 Coy back then. Good to see ole "Waggy" Burns... Great Officer
I was there. I was in the U.S. Air Force at that time serving at RAF Upper Heyford. My two year stint at that base was coming to a close and I booked a 17 day tour of Europe. I had to get on a ferry the next morning, so I decided to spend one final day in London. In my previous trips to London, I never saw Buckingham Palace, so I went there. I had no knowledge of the "Trooping the Colour" ceremony. Sure took a ton of great photos that day!
Magnificent. Bravo from Oregon! No other nation has anything that rivals the difficult evolutions of Trooping the Colour. Although the standards seem to have slipped some, probably due to relaxing the height requirements, it's still a great show. I bet the Queen had no idea that she wasn't yet halfway through the Troopings in her honor!
@AviationBoi 2007 After 2009 the Parade went down hill the 60s 70s 80s were the best years your officer is now your buddy instead of when I shout jump how high Sir no Dicipline leads to to a do rightly job in every walk of life .
@@edithdodds190 I don't know about that Edith old girl, I think they've done pretty damn good in 2 Gulf Wars, Afghan, Yugoslavia, Northern Ireland, Sierra Leone, pandemic response etc. which in reality what modern professional soldiers are trained and paid to do. Back in the 1980s spring drills would start just after Easter, when my mate was in (Irish Guards) a few years back they had just weeks to prepare. Think about stuff, Edith old girl, think.
@@clemteetonball1250 Agree with your comments but it still remains a fact that Guards Depot Pirbright was the foundation of Guards drill, turnout and bearing until its closure in the late 80s, whereas Guards Training Company at Catterick is a rather poor substitute, at least as far as ceremonial is concerned, and I'm afraid it shows nowadays. Lastly, That weapon. The SLR. My fave. Stripped and re-assembled it blindfold. 😂👌

Yes. Colonel Malcolm Havergal had a great voice. 1985 was the first Trooping which I attended, so I remember it very well. An amusing anecdote: I bought an LP of the soundtrack, of this parade, and, when I played it, Mum thought that Colonel Havergal's voice was the rag and bone man!
@@guglielmofantini9788 wow nice to know hes name. yes, I couldnt agree with you more, he was the best example of a perfect field commander. By the way, were you attending as military or as a civilian back then?
The SLR or Fn Fal has been updated by DSA arms usa in different forms and is far better than an sa 80 theres a new LMT 762 rifle that has no muzzle climb and should be adopted by the BA.
Todays trooping looks a pale shadow of itself compered to back then. from eight guard to six and the band is a lot smaller. Shame, not forgetting height regulation. Female bands women who look today 4 foot nothings.
My Uncle is in this he was in the Blues & Royals playing the kettle drums.
Wow.. how is he now? And did u spot him in this video?

@Robert Thorpe What about "trouping"?
I look forward to these videos. Thanks for posting
She's actually *looking* at them!
Love how the Queen kept making sure William wasn't going to fall over the balcony. An how Charles was holding and playing with Harry.
Thank you again for another wonderful program!
Superb drill, superb command, superb formation, superb discipline and all the soldiers looked perfect 💂♂️. They dont do it like this no more 😔
@AviationBoi 2007 yes.. me too. Sad seeing the attrition affecting the ceremony like that

@AviationBoi 2007 very disappointing
@AviationBoi 2007 yes they did an excellent job but their voices wasnt as close as this one
@Leslie Dodds wow salute to him. Why has the quality of drill decreased??

Best Troop ever!

Tom Fleming was a great broadcaster.
The best.
I do notice the guardsmen back then where much leaner and muscular then now. Now there is a growing number of "chubby boys" in the ranks.
Don't have to be ripped to be fit mate all them "chubby boys" could do a lot more than you in the field 😉
It is called "decadence", most of the people are too dumb to notice that.
Agree
I've got to say the SLR rifle looks far better for drill purposes and the Gdsm look sized off better compared to what you have today .

Best military parade in the world

Lovely to see her majesty on horseback again.
This was the year before I joined the Scots guards and I didn't do the troop till 87. Is it me or have the standards slipped since back then.?
Afraid so. Bless you for serving.
