MP3 Version: / spitfire-albion-demo Here is an overview and my general impression of Spitfires new orchestral sample library 'Albion' More Details Here: www.spitfireaud...
Thanks for great video. I am looking for Orchestral library in this price range. This was best and most informative overview of any of libraries I have seen so far.
Thanks very much for your reply. Significant latency would have been a difficulty for me. I am going to download this beautiful library. Your UA-cam clips were very helpful and are appreciated.
Thanks Daniel. Great video. The ostinatum does sync to the DAW. I was following the video about ostinatum and discovered a somewhat hidden feature. If you click on the words LENGTH, KEY or VEL, the word VEL changes to the word OFFSET. This allows you to draw in individual notes. The notes move up and down on the music staff. Pretty nice feature!
Great overview as always Daniel. You are a top lad for giving up your time and sharing the love. Have just bought this product after watching your video, along with your excellent Project Alpha. Keep up the good work. We all appreciate it hugely.
This is awesome! Just hearing your play some of these patches (around 39:00 especially) is giving me inspiration for writing some new stuff. This is definitely on my wish list. Thanks for reviewing.
Wow- props to you, sir, for really taking the time to make such an extensive and informative review. You really addressed the kind of points that I care about which are seldom seen in many youtube reviews. Cheers!
Thank you very much for this video! I'm about to purchase Albion, and the HZ London Perc. and this was an extremely informative place to start from! Thanks mate! Great job! Cheers from South Africa!
Hi Daniel! I remember watch this when it was NEW in 2011. Back then I was looking at LASS, Vienna, Kirk-Hunter etc. I'm glad I was too broke to buy anything!!! I'm STILL broke :) , but I'm REALLY liking the Spitfire Stuff!!! I LIKE Albion! I want to add "Sable" as well. There is no doubt, when things get better, I'm buying SPITFIRE. I'm REALLY GLAD that you did not go "BOMBASTIC". I'll re-watch your other Spitfire vids and see how I feel. I think those were BOMBASTIC :)
@drawingaway I think this is. I mean, Daniel says it at the end of the vid, the price makes it a very good starting library, and I find the concept really good and the sound too.
Ugh. I hate these spam-bots who post dub turbo and Dr. Drum. Please mark for spam and report comments like this. On a different note, very good and thorough walk-through, Dazexus.
@ConforMIDI I would agree with you on that part. It could be good to introduce student discounts to lure more folks in. But pros will drop $400/500 on something like this easily, without blinking.
@ConforMIDI When you consider the amount of time and manpower it took to record, produce and program this sample library - I think $400-500 is more than appropriate. Perhaps they could offer student licenses for non-commercial usage but this sample library is quite a bit cheaper than some other 3rd party sample libraries.
I just realized they removed the legato octave patches in both Hi and Lo strings. So the octave patches are now, (from v2 forward?) unavailable. What gives with that? anyone know?
You can decrease the LAG parameter in the effects sequencer to have your sudden on-off filter changes. I think :) Other than that, this has been a splendid review! That cue you did awfully reminded me of the Morrowind theme. Taa-taa-taaaaaa, taa-taa-taaaaa... :D
@FDWhitehurst No not true. When I record video the software records my system audio and my microphone separately. When playing the samples there is no lag at all.
Hi Daniel! Thanks for your tutorial.. From your Kontakt Player panel I can see that you have Albion and Symphobia.. Can you tell, please, which one you think is better? I'd like to buy one of two plug-ins but I really can't take an easy decision without a little suggestion.. Can you help me, please? Thanks in advance for your kind answer!!! ALEX.
I have neither, but judging by reviews and what I've heard, I would prefer Albion. It's on my wish list :) But I certainly would love to have Symphobia as well. That being said, I am a little more of a soft music composer, so that may be why I gravitate towards Albion. It just sounds so authentic though.
+Erick McNerney You know the difference between Albion I and II? Because both are soft, so, why should i have Albion if i already have Albion II? Thanks in any case!
@nsmadsen No, I have. I wouldn't say I'm disagreeing with you in that I would like to see a student price introduced in the future. And as you mention, Albion caters to both audiences: student and professionals. It may be a good idea for them to think about offering a reduced price to students.
@lilmissmusic2012 I do, that is what I am currently using until I upgrade in about a month or so. MP is easy to use and learn if you have never dealt with MIDI before (like me). I think it is a good starting point before going with the big boys stuff which is a little more complicated to use in some cases and a lot lighter on the pocket. :-)
Hi, you can download the manual from spitfire's site. Go to www.spitfireaudio.com/albion and select the tab "Delving Deeper". At the end of the page you will find the manuals
is it soft sounding because the close mike isn't on? great job, going to add this to add to my library for sure. sounds like fun to me Thank you for the incites.
+Ol Drake You can load Kontakt into Pro Tools and it will recognize it. You must mean stand alone Kontakt. In stand alone version, click the little gear at the top (Options). On the MIDI tab find your controller and change it from off to on. On the Audio tab select your sound card and the appropriate driver (probably ASIO).
It's about $400 - 450, for those who are wondering. I hope they'll reduce the price. As a student, I need to pay for tuition, and that's enough to retake a course so I'll have to hold off. I hope they reduce the price to 150. Then I would consider buying. (Hoping someone from Spitfire reads this...)
@sgirondogs Thanks I have been watching some videos about it and it looks easy enough to get around on and it sounds really nice from some of the demos I heard on the website. Price isn't bad either ;D
I am very new to using any of this music stuff, started a little bit ago, and I was wondering what you did you your Ableton Live 9 have that layout, because that seems much more user friendly to me than the default layout for windows. :/
superb composition, and this library rocks man... hey i'ts true that you have to send a score to spitfire, and if they consider that is good stuff only in that terms you are able to buy their products?
Hello.. great demo! I watched all 45 minutes without even realizing it. This one was a pleasure to sit through. I did have a question though. Is the ostinato sample locked in the same tempo, or will it synch with whatever tempo your DAW is set to? Sorry if this question has already been asked. Not that it is a deal breaker.. this library looks great. Thanks!
Disagree greatly with the whole 'softer side', rack up the modulation with the percussion and the low strings. Phwoar, most powerful combination I've heard from an ensemble in a long time.
i just got symphonic orchestra platinum from EW and I plan on returning it and buying the Albion Bundle that is about to come out... is that a WIN or am I silly for that
@nsmadsen Indeed, but if you were from Spitfire which would you rather have: lots of students like me buying your product at a lower price or very few people buying it at exceedingly high prices? Given that the more people who have the product, the more publicity the library gets, I think the former is preferable.
Thanks Dan for this vid! Really interesting library, I like the concept of the legatos and the pads, and it sounds really good. Don't you think it can be very useful for the all composing part, or do you still prefere Symphobia ? I don't think I'm gonna take this library, I think Symphobia is excellent in background stuff also, more multipurpose, and this is what I need. Anyway, great vid, interesting as always, and i like your funny comments ! Keep them coming ! :)
Great videos you have. Thanks so much for doing this. I am looking into buying my first orchestration library. There are so many, but I am drawn to Albion, especially after watching these vids now. My budget is $500. Not sure if I should go with Albion 1 or East West Gold package? What is your recommendation? Thank you so much. Looking forward to your response.
I bought this and everey cent was good invested money! Thx for your review! By the way i would be glad if somebody want to comment on my tracks no matter good or bad.thx!!!
@ConforMIDI Ran out of characters - sure they want to sell to folks but if they can say "Albion was used in major film X" or "this new PS3 game used Albion" does that do more for publicity for the sampel library or does "Albion used in student film X" Sounds harsh but really consider what I'm saying. There are tons of student-beginner based products out there - this isn't one of them. Its more a mid-level product. Not super cheap, not super expensive.
@ConforMIDI "exceedingly high prices" - Have you actually looked at some of the other libraries out there? You seem to be griping about paying $400-500 bucks for this when I can name off multiple sample libraries that cost either in the thousands or tens of thousands of dollars. So your impression of "exceedingly high prices" doesn't seem to be really accurate. Besides sample libraries want to sell to composers who are going to use their stuff in high profile titles - not just selling students.
Thanks for great video. I am looking for Orchestral library in this price range. This was best and most informative overview of any of libraries I have seen so far.
Thank you, great work on the track too!
A wonderful review - thank you.
Clicked THUMBS UP - at 2 minutes. :) The fact that you are showing Albion - and playing around with it in Ableton - is alone a suberb feat! :)
Very xlnt demo, thank you. looks like a rather well rounded library.
Saving up now!
Thanks very much for your reply. Significant latency would have been a difficulty for me. I am going to download this beautiful library. Your UA-cam clips were very helpful and are appreciated.
You're brilliant at writing mate, awesome review too!
Thanks Daniel. Great video.

Bloody hell. Your overview is awesome. Thank you :)
for the slower attack instruments, do you have to nudge them over to get the timing right??
Another great tutorial Daniel.....
@mech289 ArtAcoustic Reverb. If you know Ableton, it's on the bottom of the screen on the right, when he clicks on a MIDI track.
What a channel. We need more videos like this one, maybe a tv channel just for vst reviews? :)

Great vid Dan thanks for posting!. Nice and brief ; )

Great video! just bought Albion and this was a big help. Especially your explanation of the Ostinatum which was a little baffling before I saw this.
I SHALL BUY THIS JUST BECAUSE OF THIS VIDEO THANK YOU SIR!!! :D
Albion 1 is a very good all around orchestral library. In addition to good strings it takes care of brass and woodwind needs too.
Thanks a million.
@ConforMIDI I would agree with you on that part. It could be good to introduce student discounts to lure more folks in. But pros will drop $400/500 on something like this easily, without blinking.

Should i EQ the Kontakt instruments or can i just play the Low and High together?
I only wish the keyboard up and down arrows could control the ostinatum OFFSET feature. That would take the pressure off my eyes.
I just realized they removed the legato octave patches in both Hi and Lo strings.
So the octave patches are now, (from v2 forward?) unavailable. What gives with that? anyone know?

hi Daniel should i of received a user manual with spitfire albion? i did'nt seem to get one packaged with my download.
Hi, you can download the manual from spitfire's site. Go to www.spitfireaudio.com/albion and select the tab "Delving Deeper". At the end of the page you will find the manuals
Video coming this week :)
piano key note is sounding off/bleeding in with every hit. how to fix
is it soft sounding because the close mike isn't on? great job, going to add this to add to my library for sure. sounds like fun to me Thank you for the incites.
any tips on how to get Kontakt to recognize my controller? Pro Tools itself recognizes it, but it won't do a thing within kontakt/albion
+Ol Drake You can load Kontakt into Pro Tools and it will recognize it. You must mean stand alone Kontakt. In stand alone version, click the little gear at the top (Options). On the MIDI tab find your controller and change it from off to on. On the Audio tab select your sound card and the appropriate driver (probably ASIO).
nice very nice
anyone know if there are any ensemble libraries that don't use scripts?
It's about $400 - 450, for those who are wondering.

@TheFullReverse It will sync to the host tempo :)
How about single instruments? Like violin solos or solo french horn and so on
@sgirondogs Thanks I have been watching some videos about it and it looks easy enough to get around on and it sounds really nice from some of the demos I heard on the website. Price isn't bad either ;D
you are never wasting anyones time, stop thinking you might do :P
Nicely done!
The same Reverb on the Legato Strings is used on the Ostinato? Low and Hi too?
Love the video, you've just stopped me buying EAST WEST!!! Albion is exactly what i'm looking for, thank you, thank you!
Hey Daniel. Which Albion has the Ostinato feature? Thanks and great work!
i'v got the piano note sounding off as well along with effect. anyone know how to mute?
I am very new to using any of this music stuff, started a little bit ago, and I was wondering what you did you your Ableton Live 9 have that layout, because that seems much more user friendly to me than the default layout for windows. :/
superb composition, and this library rocks man...
hey i'ts true that you have to send a score to spitfire, and if they consider that is good stuff only in that terms you are able to buy their products?
Dan, nice work on the vid. What are you using for reverb on this piece?
Hello.. great demo! I watched all 45 minutes without even realizing it. This one was a pleasure to sit through. I did have a question though. Is the ostinato sample locked in the same tempo, or will it synch with whatever tempo your DAW is set to? Sorry if this question has already been asked. Which is the best to get, say If I can only really afford one, albion I, II, or III??
Disagree greatly with the whole 'softer side', rack up the modulation with the percussion and the low strings. Phwoar, most powerful combination I've heard from an ensemble in a long time.
i just got symphonic orchestra platinum from EW and I plan on returning it and buying the Albion Bundle that is about to come out... is that a WIN or am I silly for that
Have both.
+TheJayKellz How did you return it? I didn't think you could do that.
told them that "Play" was trash (cuz it is)
@nsmadsen Indeed, but if you were from Spitfire which would you rather have: lots of students like me buying your product at a lower price or very few people buying it at exceedingly high prices? Given that the more people who have the product, the more publicity the library gets, I think the former is preferable.
@LordMangaka Its about 20gig
Are you using any reverb on this, or are they recorded into the samples like EWQLSO?
I hear your key strikes and the sound suggests that there is a noticeable amount of latency involved. Is this true.?
Thanks Dan for this vid! Really interesting library, I like the concept of the legatos and the pads, and it sounds really good. Don't you think it can be very useful for the all composing part, or do you still prefere Symphobia ?
I don't think I'm gonna take this library, I think Symphobia is excellent in background stuff also, more multipurpose, and this is what I need.

Do you recommend Miroslav Philharmonik by IK Multimedia for a beginner?
Great videos you have. Thanks so much for doing this. I am looking into buying my first orchestration library. There are so many, but I am drawn to Albion, especially after watching these vids now. My budget is $500. Not sure if I should go with Albion 1 or East West Gold package? What is your recommendation? Thank you so much. Looking forward to your response.
Did you have reverb, EQ, or any other inputs on these instruments during the demo?
does it come with a good reverb? or do you suggest using another?
how did you do that at 1:24 velocity first increases, then decreases? Please answer me
automation !
HEy Dan great vid! keep doing good vids like these. I have a question, how many GB need Albion to install? i realy thinking on getting this one.
I bought this and everey cent was good invested money! Thx for your review! By the way i would be glad if somebody want to comment on my tracks no matter good or bad.thx!!!
Need to sort out why these bids don't play on ipad
What's the program you use to compose your songs?
Daniel. If you don´t like Albion because this is not quite Epic, you allways can sell it to me for a reasonable price :)
Theres not so much strings in albion is there?
Nice vid! but u have symphobia too, so,what which do you prefer?
what do you know about kirk hunter strings?
does this support keyswitching?
@JustAdam112 2008 Mac Pro Tower
Oh yes, in case you want to check my stuff out - you will find me from Soundcloud/Artifex28
Man... How do you afford all these libraries if I may ask?
Do you use an iMac, Macbook, or a tower?
look mate, how do you get to upload such a long video?
Listening to those strings, do you wish you had never bothered with Hollywood Strings ;-)
where are you from? I love your accent ! :)
That sound at 7:00 sounds like "I Will Find Him" by Hans Zimmer! Simply amazing
I cannot find the attack/decay for the life of me in Redux 5.2
Is this like FL Studio?
its Ableton live
Controller keyboard is rattling like crazy; very distracting. Still, cool demo.
Mute your mic when you play ;) Good demo though.
whoever createwd the interface must have been smoking something strong.
