This is more than likely just a random/surprise update for patching any security issues the PS3/vita have. They did the same thing with the PSP where it was dormant for a year or two(don't remember) and then randomly 6.61(PSP) came out. The reason why they waited this long for the update was probably to trap as many people into auto updates. Whenever Sony updates an older system, it is more than likely just security patches.
Total garbage update, i will never update my jailbroken Vita because i know $ony update this console not because they care but because they want to screw people who hacked this console while at the same time $ony no longer support this console. F*CK $ONY, TRASH CONSOLE COMPANY !!!
I feel that it's more likely that they wanted to make PSN more secure and keep the vita store open. But they didn't bother actually updating the PSN account creation on vita because they feel no-one will use it. They had to increase security, but instead of doing the work on vita they just disabled account creation
No use to harden the security on dead console. No even protected from Henkaku. They also should at least make a sales for Vita store but too bad they do not care and leat the console dead.
That's so sad, it's like 2 rivals crash-landed on an uninhabited island with few resources and one died of starvation before the other. That aside, it's a shame that the 3DS went that way, I always liked the 3d capabilities. The Vita, no doubt soon to follow, I feel is quite a capable little machine that never really got much in the way of decent modern titles. Waste of potential in that sense but a great portable for the classic gaming.
The Vita makes me really sad because from my experience I had with it (I had one in 2017 so I was late to the party) I really enjoyed it and I grew up being a hermit on the previous PSP. It's a shame that the time they come out it didn't acquire a big audience... Ridge Racer was definitely my fav on the Vita :)
You probably already have but jailbreak it and there’s an incredible community behind it brining ports to it nearly a few every week, you can have psp ps1 n64 snes vita and a few ps2/3 games on it plus there’s a few pc ports it’s honestly surprising, ended up selling my switch as never played it !
As a software developer I can tell you the reason for this update; they had to make some breaking changes to the account creation APIs, and rather than re-implement them in the Vita it was just easier to remove the create account buttons.
I agree that it doesn't make a lot of sense for Sony to do an update for a system they are planning to kill off, but NOTHING Sony has done since the Vita launched has made much sense. So why would they start now?

It's a good thing and a bad thing because this update disables any PS3, PSP, PS1 and PS VITA games what can be bought on the PS3 and transferred over to your PSP or Vita
I wonder if Sony is also quietly working on a new PSP... That could be a possible reason for dropping the update to the Vita, as the store may be used with the new PSP if it drops.
Their SLA and ToC both REQUIRE them to update security patches. It literally has nothing to do with the store or longevity man. You've clearly never worked in the tech industry.
seems like a poor people block mechanism to me. usually people from third world country cant afford the latest gen of consoles, so they buy the older second-hand device. which mean they more likely wouldn't have an account yet hence blocking them from accessing the store.
I think this patch is to try and block as many attempts at piracy for their classic games and psp games due to the games being offered in the new ps plus subscriptions. Less people might buy the new ps plus because they can hack a vita instead and get psp and ps1 games for free.
i just bought a vita a couple weeks ago and am going to buy as many games as i can, but i need to get a memory card. i updated it when i first got it and was shocked when it had an update available yesterday.
@@addie4894 okay, a little while ago i bought a 8gb memory card, and it didn't hold much. it is fine if your collection is physical, but isn't shit if you gat digital games. i spent $106 on a 64gb memory card on ebay. and the cards work great. it was pretty easy to set up, the hardest part was saying goodbye to money.

They are just doing this because they want to turn off the old legacy parts of PSN built around the PS3, yet they need to maintain their customer's access to the games they've already bought. The ability to purchase content may not necessarily be maintained over the longterm, because I think the important part of this is just that people will have longterm access to servers to redownload their games.

If you're missing RUNTIME 2.71and couldn't log in, the 2step verification will solve long on stats.
I loved the PSP and PSvita when I was a kid. I was blown away with how good it was for a handheld. Imagine they released a new one that was basically like a PS4 handheld. Probably wouldnt compete real well with the Steam Deck tho

An update for the Vita and PS3 just a few weeks before Playstation plus is having a huge overhaul with multiple options. I hope this is good news for the vita and ps3.
I think they are doing it more for the sake of psn and people not using the PS3 and vita to do some kind of backdoor thing to compromise psn since they don’t plan on watching those systems anymore. That update said something about it limiting some features alongside having to create a new account on the other platforms.
Heeyyy, just wanna show some love to any PS Vita owner. I was going through the old Ghost Recon games and decided to buy Ghost Recon Predator on the Vita 2 weeks ago. Been having some fun with that, as it is a mix of new movements, but still holding on to the brutal nature of those games in the series.
The thing is Sony’s new tier for PS Plus has also PS1 products, when you can play them (as well as other titles from PS2 remastered) in PS Vita, for free. This makes Sony competing against Sony. This update (companies make public always the part they are interested while hide other stuff) goes towards decrease user experience at ps vita. PS plus premium is expensive, and second hand PS Vita are pretty available , so many people will buy a Vita instead getting the ps plus premium. So it’s bad news in my opinion. Sooner or later Sony will kill Vita in one way or another. The model of selling products of Sony was dated even when Vita was launched (based in product instead of services). Now Sony is focusing in services, and PS Vita (a product that with the proper software CAN DO EVERYTHING still today) is a problem. I worked in a Japanese company and they prefer products alike model than services, and they don’t like to change fast or incorporate new technologies if they are not curated technologies. When Vita was launch, companies based on products instead services were falling down already, but in any case they tried with Vita. When they saw the first results, they were convinced that products based strategy is not the proper strategy. That’s why they abandoned vita that soon
Ashame Sony don't seem to have any plans to release a new portable gaming device which is somewhat surprising to me as the nintendo switch is doing very well. I've always wanted to see a console similar to the wii u but more like the switch whereby you have the console which stays at home and plugs into a TV and you also have the handheld device which can display the game on it's own screen or can be used as a controller, similar to a wii u. However the thing I would love to see is the ability to play the same games on the move so for example, you buy GTA on the console which can play it at 4k 60fps but you can also play it at 1080p 30fps on the portable device. We kind of have this ability through playstation remote play but you need a PC or mobile with a controller to do this, I guess the closest device to what I'm on about is the steamdeck. This is one of the major disappointments with the wii u as the gamepad has to be close to the console.
you shouldnt feel glad about it, infact you should feel bad. modding the vita was pretty easy and straightforward, now its become alot more difficult. They will find ways around it, but thats all thats going to happen, youll just be able to hack it again, nothing will change in terms of what you can do with the hack..so having it hacked before this update would have been the best choice since you wouldnt have to wait for the same results that you could have already had

Hopefully Vita games come to Playstation Premium!?💡🎮🤞🙏🏻
LMAO! There is no way in hell that’s gonna happen. Nice to dream though…
I would love that
Great to hear this background music again! It's like the Vita theme song haha
It would be nice if there were a few games in the PlayStation Plus again.
With handhelds becoming so popular, could this be just a stop gap while they are developing their next device?
As long that remote play keeps working im happy😅
Their SLA and ToC both REQUIRE them to update security patches. It literally has nothing to do with the store or longevity man. You've clearly never worked in the tech industry.

He's just an optimist clearly. Dillusional LOL
@@jackjefferson3980 He has good content... Just not an understanding of how large businesses work.
This update messed me up. I didn’t update of course but even spoofing 3.74 doesn’t work for some reason. I can’t access the store.
seems like a poor people block mechanism to me. usually people from third world country cant afford the latest gen of consoles, so they buy the older second-hand device. which mean they more likely wouldn't have an account yet hence blocking them from accessing the store.
What are the effects of this update for the psv that is jailbroke?
I wish they would release more games for ps vita. 😔
I think this patch is to try and block as many attempts at piracy for their classic games and psp games due to the games being offered in the new ps plus subscriptions. Less people might buy the new ps plus because they can hack a vita instead and get psp and ps1 games for free.
So glad you mentioned the spoofed version, just did that to mine and its working great
I don't trust them
on what Lmao
They usually send an update out the blue on dead consoles patch anyway exploits for people who have hacked units
@@mont-doggBeats yeah, I agree. It's probably not in our favor. I'd love to be wrong though.
i just bought a vita a couple weeks ago and am going to buy as many games as i can, but i need to get a memory card. i updated it when i first got it and was shocked when it had an update available yesterday.
Let me know how it will go with the memory card I have some issues with it it’s complicated to set it up
@@addie4894 i just spent $30 on an 8GB memory card and it works great. love the console but the memory issue holds it back A LOT.
@@addie4894 so to set up the memory card.
1. buy a memory card and wait for it to com in
2. put the card in at the bottom slot
3. go to settings
4. go to storage settings (may be labeled as memory)
5. format the card
Sony you want to damage my encore instalation? No you wont.
No way, a new update???
More than likely just an attempt to prevent (or interrupt) hacking.
I think this also makes vita piracy harder. You might not be able to hack or downgrade from the latest update.
I really hope this means they're keeping the store online for good.
They also recently updated the nintendo 3ds and the digital store is still shutting down, this means nothing.
I hope this means an integration of a games library on a newer platform from these older platforms
I was wondering why i couldn't go to the store on my vita after update i still buy games on vita and Playstation 3
Can't wait for the books to show up 🤞🤞
After a month we finally got new video, thanks.
Maybe if they add some sales...
I was preparing my PSVITA to remote play my PS4 on my break at work and bang! I got hit with the update so I downloaded update because without it I had no access to my PS4 and 3 minutes later I was resuming my Dusk Diver 2 gameplay.
just an update to log in ps vita easier. i recently contact Sony for how to correctly log in, guess they are fed up with people asking
I hope they just make a update so i can remote play my vita to my ps5
Great update for standard players. Bad update for hackers.
I've had my vita stolen and replaced with a used one. The used one from eBay did not have the RUNTIME 2.71 file needed to sign in.(sign in needed to access older free plus subscribed games) So I had a system that couldn't update or download and didn't want to hack it todo so.
If you're missing RUNTIME 2.71and couldn't log in, the 2step verification will solve long on stats.
i feel you where reading into it alot.
I loved the PSP and PSvita when I was a kid. I was blown away with how good it was for a handheld. Imagine they released a new one that was basically like a PS4 handheld. Probably wouldnt compete real well with the Steam Deck tho
It's a handheld ps3. And the psp it's a handheld ps2.
I noticed I couldn't log in yesterday. Guess I need to update my spoofing to 3.74, thanks for the tip. I still buy a cheap digital game every now and then when there's a cross-buy sale.
inb4 new playstation handheld announced before 2023
First thought, they're trying patch out homebrew. But funny thing is if you're using homebrew, you wouldn't update your firmware anyway.
I was honestly expecting to be Rick rolled.
I have spoofed my 3.60 enso'd vita and it seems to be fine
remote play ps5 would be very nice :)
I'm still waiting for the PS Vita 2.
That update said something about it limiting some features alongside having to create a new account on the other platforms.
i dont think so. sony was careless for vita since 2 years launched. is just to patch hacks.
Ah so that is why update is trying to download every time I leave my vita in sleep mode and I could not login into psn using my regular password
Well said indeed.. I also thinking it too, why bother updating vita? If they don't planning something?
It's so they can update the licenses on the Blu Ray play... oh.
My vita isn't hacked and I still buy games. I have an existing psn account and it won't let me log in through the vita..
My youtube app keeps lagging up.
Henkaku users: SPOOF TIME !
Glad I didn't mod my Vita a few weeks ago like I planned to. I'll to see what the modding scene has come up with before I do.
you shouldnt feel glad about it, infact you should feel bad. modding the vita was pretty easy and straightforward, now its become alot more difficult. They will find ways around it, but thats all thats going to happen, youll just be able to hack it again, nothing will change in terms of what you can do with the hack..so having it hacked before this update would have been the best choice since you wouldnt have to wait for the same results that you could have already had
@@PowderedNutsHow is it any harder? My Vita isn't update, so I'd just mod it and spoof the current update as normal.
@@xxnoxx-xp5bl i was referring to it being harder if you had went through with the update. you mentioned you were glad you didnt mod your vita before the update, so i guess i assumed you were going to wait til the new update gets moddable then update that and then proceed to mod it. if you didnt update it then itll be the same process as usual
@@PowderedNuts You can already downgrade from 3.74. You should probably stop assuming things.
@@xxnoxx-xp5bl you should check your attitude. i was merely making a suggestion that it wasnt a good thing based on the information provided. be a dick to someone else just trying to have a chat,. good day
Last night, I caught the update by accident while looking up wallpapers. As of now I'm not downloading anymore games to save what little memory I've got left, so at this point it's whatever.
Zero drama. Clearly communicated. Not filled with pointless speculation. Top stuff. I feel you could cover a wider remit than vita and have a huge fan base.
Did you not watch the second half of the video where he clearly speculates on what this update means?
@@TheShadowBrigade I've been conditioned by "ps vita 2am" where the entire video is random over enthusiastic speculation with zero credibility. So this video to me was still a positive comparison.
PSVITA 2 maybe? We need another handheld device, I honestly think Sony should do it!
So my hacked vita won't let me sign in to psn . Says if 2 step verification is active I must enter a device setup password.. I don't have 2 step verification active..
I’m in the same boat. I didn’t allow the update to finish installing and I already did the spoof version thing but I still can’t access the store.
I have been buying a lot of Vita games from the PSN store lately, so I'll be happy if Sony keeps it open.
Same
Pretty sure overall it will make it unplayable in the end, decreasing performance. All the vita's were hacked they stopped the support
Can’t really update if you don’t have a working Vita memory card.
I hate it because i currently live in japan and i cant sign in because it wants me to reset my passwords and such. i have but i still cant sign in (even with a VPN) and so i cant download my games.
Ps: i take my Vita over my switch when i travel because its smaller lol
Just imagine if you can play PSP and PS1 games on the Vita and PS3 that come with PS+ Premium
I Hope This Update Fixes The System Activation Error On The Ps Vita. Haven’t Been Able To Activate The Game Activation Setting On It For Months.
Hopefully they'll add more things but I'll wait until it happens.
I just turned my PS Vita on and discovered a game that i definitely don't remember being on there. Is that even possible?!? Game is "Desert Ashes", I dont ever remember this game being on there and my Vita doesn't have online connectivity except for Wi-Fi/Bluetooth.
Few people actually boot up these older hardware nowadays. I wouldn't be surprised if less than 15% or 20% of all hardware sold that generation was still used.
One of the reasons is because ps1 classics are getting trophy support. So this update might enable trophies perhaps?
It's because the new service psn ultimate
On ps4/5 backwards compatibility
this is probably a direct result of even the odin handheld not being able to do 90% of the ps2 library which the vita can and sony said you can do what ever with custom firmware we dont care years ago well after they stopped making them. the vita can do something like 90% of the ps2 library if you have a good clean rip from the disc. not all roms are made alike
PS Vita 2 🙏
I don't know if I could handle the excitement. 😊
This is gonna be a way to portably play your ps5 too just watch.
