Hunchback of Notre Dame: Festival of Fools - Disneyland 1996

- It's hard to imagine that in one year the entertainment offerings at Disneyland consisted of Lion King Celebration, Pocahontas live stage show, Fantasmic!, Main Street Electrical Parade and this theater in the round live show, The Hunchback of Notre Dame Festival of Fools. Even weirded that 24 years later this is where we would be buying Blue Milk in a Galaxy Far Far Away.
Aw, Clopin. Forever in my heart. 😊
This show reminds me that the 90s was a golden era of entertainment at Disneyland. You just don’t see that same level of quality and quantity anymore.
It was the golden era of Disney animation. You don’t see the same quality of Disney animated films anymore everything is Pixar and quite frankly they’re lazy to put on quality shows like this for the newer stuff like Frozen, Moana etc.. Disneyland makes millions a year with no lavish shows so it’s like why bother to them nowadays
I remember being told by someone that the man in charge of live entertainment for Disneyland back then died somewhere around this time. No one else had quite the same level of vision. Also, there is something to be said for the pool of high quality performers which Disney had on their payroll at the time. (I know of a few that went on to headline for major shows both on broadway and national touring companies)
The amount of money I would pay to have a meet and greet Clopin signature at a Disney park.
I have a very vivid memory of seeing this show one time, and right as Esmeralda was supposed to come out it started to rain and they had to end the show. The commotion and confusion will forever stick in my head! I also love the Hunchback of Notre Dame movie, so I’m sure I bugged my parents to go see this lol
Would be nice if they made a show like this for the 25th anniversary this year
Thank you for sharing! I had actually uncovered pictures of me at Disneyland, when I was only four years old at this very show.
It is so wild how much technology can access that not only was I able to get some pictures I did not know existed but to be able to look up the very show I was at too. Wild lol
Absolutely gorgeous set, wish Disneyland would do something on this scale again
it was really one of the best things ever.
One of the best productions the park has ever had. Didn’t hurt it was an equity production as well!
I miss my childhood! 90s were the best
The cathedral of Notre Dame will stand tall and live on, while being renovated.
Hunchback is a Disney masterpiece and I loved that movie as a kid I had all the toys and merchandise and last year I got the Esmeralda collectors doll and the 25th anniversary stuff but still have my vintage 90s stuff heard their was to be a live action version of the movie with some of the songs and that I’d love to see that and in this version is it me or has Esmeralda got really REALLY thick hair (wig)
Thank you so much for posting this! I was a dancer in this show and it was one of the most physically demanding shows I ever did. The set was HUGE and the choreography was non-stop...and doing it all in the sun...ugh. Had the time of my life and made life long friends. Seeing my friends in this video brings tears to my eyes because they all hold such a special place in my heart. The past two years have been tough...I miss these days.
That’s incredible. So glad you found it, thank you.
Thank you for your service! 🙂
Hi, I love hearing your story, do you know the actors name that played Clopin? I remember his voice and it was absolutely amazing.
Aaaaa!!!! I was in this show!!!! Wonderful memories!!!!!!
The best show Amy! It kicked my butt!!! Hope all is well with you. :)
Oh wow who did you play one of the awesome Gypsies or the stunning Esmeralda
I don’t know we’ll ask her!
Wonderful show! I remember seeing it as a child! I also love that they even managed to include a bit of my favourite song "Hellfire" so it's awesome.
That's the best Disney Villain song🖤💜❤❤🔥❤🔥❤🔥
I have a vague hazzy memory of this show. God's it's been a life time for me
I remember seeing this show as a kid in 1997. What always caught my attention was how Quasimodo swang back and forth on those ropes. I have been doing some research and was confused by the musical on WDW that didn't have the same stage set nor sequences. I'm glad I finally found real footage of the show I remembered as a kid.
Man this show was always consistently packed to the brim. Had to get there early.
Wait we’re u there

Clopin! ❤❤❤❤
i watched the movie on theatres in that summer 1996 but i cant remember cause back then i was too young , so i wonder how it was the reaction of the people watching the movie for the first time and not seeing what they expected it to be (a carnival , joyful and party movie as its slogan said '' join the party '') someone here can tell me your experience ?
Was that the original Clopin voice actor?
