- He's never been a typical Hollywood star, but the Oscar-nominated actor known for such classics as "MASH" and "The Long Goodbye" has always played characters as unorthodox and distinctive as himself. Turner Classic Movies host Ben Mankiewicz sits down with Elliott Gould to talk about his acting career, and the "slings and arrows" of his outrageous fortune.

Love, love, love Elliott Gould. May he keep giving his excellence and humanity in acting.❤️
🙏🙏💕👍🙏🙏🤗
Always loved Elliot Gould. He's still so cool.
I want Elliott Gould to live forever.
'To be in the moment . . this is everything.'
Profound is always simple.
He's charmingly funny!!
I love people who can laugh at themselves and be brutally honest at the same time~🙏🤗💕👍
@@judiesuh6858 aaaaa
Elliott Gould has always been a class act. I've seen all his movies, and honestly, no one could have played Dad on Friends like he did. What an amazing life he has lived.
His role in American History X albeit small was incredible. A great talent indeed.
Nobody was or will ever be cooler than Elliott Gould in the 70s.
One of my favorite actors. Thanks for the interview!
"Shut up, Elvis." - Elliot Gould
🤣🤣🤣 His confidence is everything I aspire to in life
Love this man's acting career and the people described in this story who have made up his adventurous life experience. Thank you for being in the moment Bro.
Elliott Gould fell in love with Miss Marmelstein like we all did! Great interview.
Gould is gold - gotta love him!
One of the best ever!
Well, if he can memorize Shakespeare at 82, there's hope for the rest of us! Way to go Elliott! Still dropping olives into the Martini glass!
Memorizing Shakespeare at 82? That’s pretty cool.
I'm doing an Elliot Gould film fest, The Long Goodbye, California Split, MASH, Little Murders etc. Underrated actor and one cool cat
Thanks for this story on a great, though largely forgotten movie star.
Very talented actor hands down!
I met him once - charming guy.
Kind of ironic he was in Capricorn One with James Brolin and they both married Barbara Streisand
That is interesting and I think cool.
He has made some bad movies but they are outnumbered by the good ones. I always enjoy seeing him.
Great, interview!!!
HE IS SO BRILLIANT. IT BROUGHT ME TO TEARS AT THE END.
Many of his 70s movies are great
Elliott Gould that 'thing with the guy in the place and I'll never forget it'. Classic role. 🤣
I love that man!
I love his New York-ness.
Elliott Gould was Great in Friends which is where i know of him from the TV, and Oceans 11. Legendary actor, thank you!
I hope we see him on Oceans 14
Oceans 14?
loved him on law and order and friends
Here from Emma's birthday ..I guess he made it to 2020 (I'm talking about friends)
Her name poses a dilemma
I don't think Shakespeare ever said "That's the question." 😂 You have always been a favorite of mine. M*A*S*H is a classic that never gets old. I've watched a million times. ❤
He would`ve if he was an 82 yo Brooklyn jew married to fabulous Barbra, HA!
@@renatosilva5304 Touché!
He voiced Rabbi Goldberg from Hey Arnold.
I liked this. I will say, however, it’s extremely hard to BE IN THE MOMENT- especially at night, when you want to sleep and you’re in your bed in the dark.
Amazing. I never knew.
Awww! Nice!!!
Tremendous.
Love Elliot Gould..Such a talented family.
LOVE Elliott Gould! I'm SO surprised he is an amazing genuine person 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉❤❤❤❤❤❤🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
❤️❤️❤️
Would love having him as my Father-in-law
Rachel, is that you? 😂😂😂😂
djk M No, future husband of Jason
Very true. Looks like he can take of you
I loved Elliott as Dr Howard Sheinfeld in the sitcom E/R (not the George Clooney version).
Clooney was actually in that ER too coincidentally 😛
Elliott Gould is always funny, very smart, makes you think. So entertaining
Elliott is Brilliant.
He should have won an Oscar for Bob, Carol, Ted & Alice.
He sounds like Anthony Bourdain. No reservations tv show guy, RIP to him
❤ Elliot we need you to work with us on the show
I will be in touch
GREAT ACTOR
Ross’s dad
And Monica.
Ross looked so much like the younger Elliott Gould. He was the perfect choice to play his father.
Nice.
I want to know if he will ever write a book about his life.
THE LAST FLIGHT OF NOAHS ARK WAS A COOL FLIK
"I'm just saying..!"
Funny, Only today I watched CALIFORNIA SPLIT 😂 great film! By the way, if you want to see Elliott dancing and singing, try ONCE UPON A MATTRESS from 1964 - you can find it on YT, this is a real treasure!
~Getting straight~1970 with Elliot & Candice Bergen is a good movie too.
@@renatosilva5304 His performance in that film is brilliant.
I love him. Quirky, charming, emotionally intelligent....Although I've 'always' found James Brolin attractive; Gould would have been the better bet!
I didn't now he was married and had a child with Barbara Streisand
...a whoooooole lotta things happened before 2005.....;)
Old news Amy Forbes.
Yeah, a total freak...with AIDS.
I didn't know that because I don't care about her.
I love this man. He was so sexy for most of his life.
How did Ben Mankiewicz not know that Elliot Gould was married to Barbra Streisand?
He was joking.
@@lynnturman8157 I hope so. His delivery didn’t seem like it was a joke. A bit too deadpan!
@@californiagreg1 Yeah, I didn’t sense that he was joking either.
He had to be joking because he went on to narrate the story of their marriage.
Come on! Trump has worn everything and everybody down. We don't recognize legitimate sarcasm now. Vote November 3
he changed grougos light bulb?
Rip Michael smiley 1940 2022
I have a hard time forgiving him for what he did in Mulaney. My only consolation is that almost no-one saw it.
Didn't talk about hunter and joe
What I noticed in the Long Goodbye was his chain smoking. I did not know if he was just in character or he actually smoked like that in real life. Strange he is still alive after that but happy for him he is alive and well if he is.😀😀😀

Who just died frrom Movie MASH because i thought it him.
Elvis and Groucho would die three days apart.
He’s better off than James Brolin, at Mr Gould is still working and practicing his art.
Ben Mankiewicz freakout when that lame Donald Trump won the presidency in 2016 with his TYT crew was classic...
Mr Geller seems fine as wine
Don’t get it. Never cared for him as actor or person. Blamed her for breakup. Classy guy
Because maybe she was the one to blame?
Don’t know anything he was in just know he was married to barbra
*I don't 'get' this*
To be known primarily for who you were married to in the far distant past...
He accomplished tons in his own right and pretty much rose along with Streisand. Streisand just became a Superstar and won an Academy Award with her first film and had huge hit records and TV specials. That's a lot to live up to. I can see why he says that she became more important than the marriage. She was a huge business.
I had no idea who he had been married to. I knew him. He's had a very impressive acting resume.
@@ukuleleeddie1953 The fact of the matter is she did become bigger than the marriage, it was written in the stars..
....to be totally fair though, women have been referred to this way for CENturies.....
"To be or not to be, THAT'S the question" is laughably awful. I don't think he was kidding around, either.
I’m second generation from a poor family, so I gamble. Logic like this is exactly why you should be an independent thinker and not listen to the geniuses in California.
So you're placing a value on someone's life experience based on their current geographical location?
@@lisaclark1181 Fair criticism. And you’re right, his illogical statement has nothing to do with California or Hollywood or being a celebrity, it just seems that the preponderance of critical thinking from the echo chamber that is the State of California follows similar logic.
Always liked him.never cared for Barbara
Not a good interview
Not a great interview at all.
