The first year I was giving them 5 gallons a day to establish when we hit highs of 80+ degrees. Now they get 15 gallons twice a week and will be 3 years in the ground in July 2020
Thanks for that great video. I am attempting to grow Alphonse karr, and Oldhami in Adelaide Australia. I had 20 shipped from Queensland (tropical climate) which might explain why half died. They where only about 9 inches high and in a 500ml plastic tube. I now have only 4 very healthy plants. (two of each luckily) and 6 plants a lot less than half the size of the healthy plants.
Deb Torzone It's still establishing at 2 years. I'm giving it 15 gallons twice a week right now. Next year I can cut watering in half for this variety.
Where do you get your plant markers? I've had some challenges finding some where the writing won't fade quickly in our hot sun here in the Phoenix area. Your bamboo plants look great!
I love this tour! Could you tell me if you planted these plants from one 5- gallon plant. Do multiple shoots come from one plant? How many would fit in an acre? I would appreciate your help.
The oldhamii and alphonse karr were planted at 5 gallon and the others at 3. Yes multiple shoots will emerge. To fill an acre, I recommend not spending a fortune buying many full size plants and instead buy a dozen 5 gallon+, plant, and propagate by division over time to eventually fill in your space. This is my full playlist that shows them from the start -- ua-cam.com/play/PLsqSEUyMFGjTPP2gyId0xO42KFKmE3yUx.html. They have the potential to grow fast
Thanks. This is where I got it. www.treeland.com/products/shrubs/grasses/true-grass/buddhas-belly-bamboo-bamboo-bambusa-ventricosa/ I give mine plenty of water--I hear the nodes only swell when it is stress and water deprived. What kind is it then?
Hi--those are not PVC. They are decaying old canes. I bought these plants from a nursery. The nursery propagated these via rooting canes so what you are seeing are the remnants of the old canes used to root the bamboo. They will eventually decay into the ground.
No. I don't grow running types, only clumping so no golden bamboo. There is a black type that is clumping called Timor but is extremely frost sensitive. My yard gets down to 25 and it can't handle below 30. So with that reason and that the shoots have a more open weave, I opted to pass even though it looks beautiful. Would do great in a tropical climate.
I'd say about 60-80 gallons a week right now depending on the variety/size...it's been averaging 115 for many weeks now which is worse than usual and lack of rain
I would plant at least 5' away as the roots do expand over time and get very dense. I'd also recommend a root barrier if you plant near your house or another structure so you can control the size
I love your vision! I think it is so important when planning a garden paradise🌸
How often & how much do you water the bamboo? I have a bamboo plant myself and it never seems totally healthy.

Where did you get your bamboo plants from???
Mostly mail order from www.tropicalbamboo.com/
@@EnlightenmentGarden thank you!
Good information for us dessert dwellers!
Buddha belly you say is more drought tolerant ...what is your watering schedule like for it and how much water does it get?

...where do you get your bamboo in phoenix? Great variety!
Treeland nursery in Mesa sells oldhamii and is where I got mine. You can also find it in South Phoenix at Shamus Oleary's Tropical Fruit Trees

What are those PVC pipes for that you have sticking up near each bamboo

Is there a small kind of clumping bamboo that max out like 10 to 15 ft
Bambusa multiplex varieties are on the smaller side; Golden Goddess or Alphonse Karr top out around 10' in a hot dry climate like Phoenix
@@EnlightenmentGarden can you plant them in a big planter or container?
@@martiawesome Yes! Either one of these varieties would work in a large container or raised bed.
