Scotty, you legit have no idea how happy I am to see Turbo Taxi back! It's legit the car that brought me onto watching the channel and I love it. Can't wait to see what you do with it. Keep up the great work mate!
Looks like your up for a new set of windscreen smearers Scotty. I admire you dedication to LPG with this because if you went e85 it would be faster but not as unique. Good work.
I looked into doing turbo LPG must be well over 30 years ago, and I think Scotty is running into the same problems I was facing, and that is getting enough gas in to make the power.
@@DodgyBrothersEngineering Same here !! years ago had a 350 in a Torana twin Gas Reseach throttle bodies threw it all in the bin 750 holley much easier
@@benpaganoni1849 back when I was looking into it. The idea of injecting the gas was fairly new and the price was insane. There was only a fixed computer that couldn't be altered in anyway. Was about then I decided I was pushing it up hill. I did buy some Impco gear which I never wound up using.
1:23 See Scotty wearing his Australian Stig outfit wearing Dunlop KT-26's. I know you're going to be in the new version of Top Gear Australia! It was good to see the old Falcon taxi again. The younger kids these days would be asking what a taxi is!
I've been looking at options for my lpg car (5L AU Wagon) and stumbled across someone who was running lpg 90% of the time, and then offsetting it with 98 at wot and high boost. You should try tuning some e86 into it at high loads and maintain the cheapness (and coolness) of lpg most of the time!
I wish you would have converted it to a JTG liquid gas system. Inject as a liquid gas which expands and tries to freeze the intake mix and 105 octane gas.. i have that setup on my xr6t and its way more powerful than on 98
Yay, turbo taxi is back. It is nice to see the other cars and what not, but turbo taxi is, and always will be the OG of this channel. Lets be honest, when you stopped work on this and originally started the mx5, people collectively let out a sad 'aww'. Good to see you havent given up on the BBQ fuel, and gone absolutely as far as you can with it before switching over e85.
Saw the old girl lurking in the background a few times during the V8 SuperLexcen build and thought this might be coming. Good to see the old girl back.
Hey Scotty...............How about you put on a BIGGER Turbo........(It is after all ....Turbo Taxi). Awesome to see this project back on the Workbench. Cheers.
A big appeal of this car has always been because it’s on LPG. Going E85 will just make this car another e85 barra = done to death and not unique. Step up the LPG system from a vapour injection to liquid injection setup. Shouldn’t cost anymore than a E85 conversion and keep flying the LPG flag! LPG is cheap in VIC and still very available.
I am inclined to agree. LPG is what makes this project interesting, but also challenging. I don't know if there would be enough difference to justify stepping it up. Not sure I would bother with the E85, as you say it loses the essence of the project, just move on from it to something else.
I also own a Melbourne ex-taxi that I named Vault. So I am super pleased to see Turbo Taxi. I'm not done with LPG yet but will be one day. So am super keen to watch the conversion of Turbo Taxi off LPG. It's a pain to get a good mechanic when your car is on LPG.
BBQ gas eh...... :-) The propane butane mix in Auto LPG is another unknown you may be battling with. Does is make a real difference? I used to run an EB with an Intec and I swore that 100% Propane autogas from Supagas Dandy made a difference, Be curious to hear what Jason has to say about that. Nice to see TurboTaxi at the Rank again!
LPG is predominantly mix of propane and butane , propane has a higher octane rating than butane, and butane has more BTUs ( stored energy) than LPG , LPG has about 104 octane depending on the ratio of gases used. Unless you're running into the lack of octane at 104, then you'll produce more power running on LPG than propane due to its higher BTU value.
@@craigritchie1933 LOL this much I am aware of thanks. Its the MIX thats the unknown and it used to change and was fairly dirty depending on where you bought it running the old converter mixer setup. Running Propane on the old system with an intec led to move punch across the board and nearly 20% better economy with rural driving especially towing. Its the Ford Australia Developed system though that im curious about running Propane as its a smarter system.
@tony66au The LTG LPG system I run in my Manual VY LS1 has a pre tank inline filter . This is done because it has an internal tank fuel pump and small orifices in the gas injectors. Supposedly, the filter needs regular changing however the gas kit has been on my car for 14+ years and the filter has only been changed once in that time, and it looked completely clean to the eye. Running on LPG, the car regularly burns around 10 lph on long trips , 15 .5 lph pulling a race car on a tandem trailer at 100kph and 13.5/15.5lph driving around a rural town. I see no measureable change of fuel usage or power with this system. It doesn't run a separate LPG ecu as it runs directly off the factory pcm. It's been specifically tuned with my EFI Live cable to perform best on LPG.
If you want Turbo Taxi to run right you need to puke in the back seat and give it a slight smell of BO! 😂 Good to see it back on the channel, it’s like seeing Leroy on Cletus channel! Cheers Pat
I saw an El Camino in America years ago with a big block Chevy and blower on LPG, but I don’t think it was in the 8’s, I don’t think the chassis was up to it
The two greatest words in the english language Scotty....... "Bigger Turbo!!!"🤣👍🍻 Is there a big Heathcote meet on this weekend saw a few trailer queens on the monash yesterday morning??
Nice to see turbo taxi back out again. Yes it has been a long time since it fired in anger. Fingers crossed for a 10, I think it owes you a 10 by now. Don't know why but I thought you were going to say that you put a new turbo on it. Did you leave off needing a bigger turbo? Been so long I can't remember.
Yes!!! I'm so glad the TT is back, but please leave it LPG that's the whole point of it being a taxi, and it makes it unique. no one gives a toss anymore about an e85 setup that's been done to death
Time for a weight loss program. For the FG Falcon that is. PUMPMPRICE WAS $0.81.9? that is still cheap, I'm. Sydney most remaining LPG servos have LPG at $1.00.9 Also this is your garage build engine so it should be able to finally crack the 10second pass finally, but please don't go E85 just yet, keep the Taxi LPG get rego for it and use it as a the Carnage daily driver for the Wheels Media staff since fuel is still cheap in Melbourne.
The limitation here is going to be the issue of more fuel means heat with LPG and of course with more boost there is more heat. Can see the lower lambda numbers making more power but she's gotta be running on the edge. I'd be stressing at anything below 0.75-ish lambda.
The way around more heat is to do what Ford did with liquid phase injection (LPI) which allowed Ford to actually up the compression ratio on the 4.0L i6. Of course how that would work with turbo charging is another issue. Scotty is right when he said that Does with the EcoLpi engine went back to standard size conrods so that rules out using those green top 4.0L i6 engines flfor cheap thrills performance engines, but the LPI fuel can be used on this current set up. The issue is does STREET MACHINE want to invest $$$ into doing that? Which is why the vapour injection system stays in place. That said I'm confident that Turbo Taxi will hit 10's down the 1/4 this time round as tjis is a Scotty garage build that has better internals than a clapped out taxi green too that they have been using, this engine was supposed to go into the MX5 and we know the story as to what happened there.
Oh man, so many viewers have been patently waiting for turbo taxi. I noticed it was by the roller door in the last video. It's a shame the rego lapsed. Does that mean she's a trailer queen from now on? Or pull the gas in favour of e85 then re rego?
