Great video and explanations. The use of the word "discomfort" in the gyno world feels like gaslighting. Trying to get into the uturus to fish around for a lost IUD is far from uncomfortable, the pain was 10 out of 10. And apparently that was just the dilating, the doctor never made it to the fish hook part. I had even taken 3 ibprofen that day because I was concerned that the removal might be painful, of course not knowing that my previous doctor had doomed me by completely cutting off the strings! I was fighting back tears and the chair was covered in blood. After later researching what was going on, I find it shocking that anyone could ever use the word 'discomfort' to describe having their cervix double pierced with hooked forceps and then forced open, followed by a hook inserted and fishing around their uterus... all without medication. It is not discomfort, it is pain. Your calm, matter-of-fact tone is reassuring. And of course it's not helpful to terrify your viewers. Besides, maybe the ones who have already had their cervix stretched out by childbirth really do only feel discomfort. To the rest of you... the pain is bad, but it's temporary and you'll get through it!
Agreed, even inserting the IUD felt a lot worse than cramping
I’ve had 2 babies and felt the same way..
😮yeah I know the pain was real bad for me too
The pain was not temperatu for me. 20 days later I am still struggling
I'm so sorry you went through that Heather :( sending you virtual hugs *hugs* I've never had an IUD and from all the horror stories I've heard I'll never get one. If I ever have kids and decide I'm done I'll just get my tubes tied lol.
What happens if your IUD shifts?
I had my IUD (copper t) fall out with my period after 3 years. 😂
I had this happen! It ended up almost puncturing my appendix and bladder. I had no idea it even happened, and my doc was SUPER surprised. Lol
That's terrifying :(
I literally had my uterus "cranked" open she called it, she said they could've done numbing but that wouldn't help me and I cried and blacked out getting it out wide awake.
I watched this video when I was panicking because my strings were lost and 1st doctor wasn’t able to remove it. For anyone else worrying - it ended up coming out fine and I didn’t even feel it! Try not to look at all the horror stories too much because most of the time they’ll be able to get it! That said…I would NEVER get another one.
Thank you so much, the info shared in this video was very helpful. I'm having my second one removed. The older I get the more fretful I've become about procedures. I feel a lot more relaxed now. Thanks 👍.
This is my exact situation. I had my IUD inserted in August 2019, two days later couldn’t find the string. Call my Doctor’s office, they did a scan and concluded it out of my body ( no X-ray was recommended) come to find out 3years later during a routine x-ray that it was in my abdomen, will be going for a surgery in 2 weeks. I will definitely be suing my doctor office for neglect.
Sorry that happened to you. How did your surgery go? I’m in the same situation. I’m in shock still. Mine has been in over 10 years and I was told that it fell out. I’m wondering what my legal options will be. Seems like malpractice to me.
Dis you sue the doctor or the brand of IUD? Currently going through something similar and unsure how to go about it
They concluded it out huh? Should have kept it in.
I am in a similarly situation now, placed the iud in December of 2023,just didn't like how my period has been and decided to take it out,the Dr couldn't find the string, mind you she put it in her self with an ultrasound but couldn't find it yesterday, she has scheduled an ultrasound, I am scared, i hope it didn't move ,bc I don't feel them at all.
Pls can I get an advice.
@@Sarianmillerany update? :( I got mine inserted December 2022 and I think it’s dislodged and I’m going to the doctor about it today :(((
Thank you so much for your thorough explanation. I’m in the process of getting my IUD removed and it’s been unsuccessful twice. Now I have to get the surgery to get it removed. You explained every step I’ve gone through so well. Prayerful that it gets removed after the surgery.
Have you gotten the surgery? I just got news I need surgery
This happened to me! My Ob/Gyn tried everything but she couldn't see or catch the strings (the IUD was def there) IT WAS THE MOST F*&$!$/! PAINFUL thing I've experienced after child birth. I'm now waiting for surgery to remove it and dealing with bleeding from the trauma of her trying. I regret the whole thing and the thought that I may have to go through this again in a few years is so upsetting. I'm seriously considering not having another one inserted 😞
Thank you for this video! I'm going in to another OBGYN to have it removed since my first OBGYN could not find strings! Hope it comes out pretty easy! 🤞🏼
Hi, how did it go with the removal?
Oh goodie. Just got my 6th IUD. No strings found on this 6 week follow up. Thank you for the info. Ultrasound to come. Thinking this is enough of a scare to just have it removed. - age 44 - no kids
Very helpful. I was going to suggest if you can do a video with those plastic models to see if how can you physically tell if your IUD fell out or are you supposed to actually feel the IUD when you check the strings?
I just got told my IUD is no where to be found and have to have a ultrasound done tomorrow :( I'm so scared.. I been super sick for 4 months
How did it go? I hope you’re ok. Going through the same thing now and I’m so scared…
I wish you were my OB/GYN lol! Love your videos.
In your opinion is it normal when doctors can't find the IUD string to tell the patient "I couldn't feel the string it probably feel out". He didn't do any other options you suggested except his hand. He ordered for me to get an ultrasound but scheduled it 3 months from now. Shouldn't he be a little more concerned about not being able to find it?
Damn I got my ultrasound same day and they gave me the results right away
Maybe call to get it moved up faster?
I’m having this same exact experience
that is absolutely not normal at all. you should find another doctor, a woman would probably be better too
I'm just now going in today to get an ultrasound done. I had scheduled an appointment a week ago to have my IUD removed and they couldn't find the strings. They got me into their soonest appointment.
@@sally1111100did they get it out with the ultrasound am having same issue
The way you explained everything was so soothing…however, I’ve come across your video because of pure fear. This is my 2nd time getting the IUD. The first time it embedded itself into my uterus and the doctor LITERALLY ripped it out along with a piece of my uterus and said “oh it will grow back”. Years later after having my 3rd baby, I was convinced that if it happened once, it’s a 1% chance of it happening again. I had my 2nd IUD put in 10 months ago and I want it out because I have been having at least 3 (week long) periods a month. They couldn’t find it when they looked. I have a scheduled ultrasound a month out and I’m freaking out.
I’m sorry but I don’t recommend this for anyone. I just want it out! 🥺😢
This is probably a stupid question but how important is checking your own strings? I always forget to😂😂😂
Thank you for the video. Ladies I removed mine today and It was 0 pain. Doctor did a great job. 😊
My iud got pushed through my uterus into ghe fatty tissue above my bladder and ive been looking for all the info i can on my surgery but its so rare its hard to actually find information on it. Thank you for the video. I had s cat scan done to identify where its at and have to have laparoscopic surgery and ive neve had surgery before so im nevous. It is painful i can feel it when i move to fast or wear tight clothes but i cant wait to have it done and over with. I wish i would hsve never gotten an IUD something that was supposed to be a simple procedure turned into a traumatic and painful experience for me.
Firstly, I really appreciate your videos it’s very educational and easy to follow. I am hoping to get some answers as I am currently undergoing an issue with removal. I went through all the stages you described where the doctor was fishing for the strings to no avail. I was sent for an ultrasound which revealed the IUD is placed normally and they referred me to a Gyno to use special tools to have it removed. When I got to the gyno, she injected my cervix with the numbing agent which was very painful and proceeded to fish for the strings which was also very painful. Keep in mind I took 1200MG of ibuprofen day of as I was terrified and took Mistroprotsol (to dialate the cervix) which didn’t seem to do much. After fishing, the Gyno could not find the strings and I am now being referred to surgery. Would you have any insight into what type of surgery is needed for a normally placed IUD where the strings were cut too short and the Gyno is unable to locate them?
Exactly what happened to me,I was advised to go for surgery 😢
How did you feel pain if you were numbed? Just curious :/ when I had my ingrown toenail removed and they numbled my toe I felt nothing at all, so I'm just curious, not trying to compare of course.
Thank you so much for this video. This is exactly what is happening to me but I just had a hysteroscopy without sedation or anesthesia and it was unsuccessful. Apparently while they were doing it I started bleeding a lot and they couldn’t get a clear picture. Doctor asked if I was expecting my period but I haven’t had a period in over a year and I spores a week prior to this procedure. Now I have a pre op appointment for another hysteroscopy through SDS. Hopefully this is the last procedure because I just want it out 😢
Girl I get freaked out I need to be knocked out
So it’s pretty uncommon for you to have had okay checkups and the IUD was in place, and it then years later migrating to being lost or perforated?
I’m so terrified, I attempted removal a week ago and my med university’s NP couldn’t locate the strings so I’m having to go to the GYN and have her locate it. I’m so scared it’s perforated or I’m going to have to have this extra painful and $$$ procedure to remove it…
How did it go? What did they have to do? I’m nervous because they couldn’t see my strongs
@@Neesha242 Sorry I never saw this til now! I had to go to the GYN that placed it, and they were able to locate it fairly quickly and remove it.
They weren't sure if they would have needed me to have a sonogram done to see where the IUD was located, but luckily I didn't have to have that done.
@@Neesha242 How did it go with yours?
@@kier3576 oh I'm glad everything turned out good.. When they couldn't located the strings they did a ultrasound and it was in place. I'm going next month for a check up and have them do one more ultrasound with a doctor just to double check
Just found this video. Thank you so much for sharing! This is very helpful. If you don’t mind me asking what are the symptoms if your IUD is in the abdomen?
Would like to know also
Thank you for this info,my IUD is stack in me, my doctor tried to remove it but was unable.its seen in but they can't, my mens stopped now for 3years .what will I do?
Thank you for the video! I had a pap smear a week ago and was wanting my iud out but my doctor couldnt see the string. I did have an ultrasound the same day and was told my iud is in the right place. I am going to make another appointment to remove the iud. I sure hope she can find the string to pull it out instead of using grabbers 😏. Im very nervous for this but your video helped!
Hi! Same with me. I went for pap and iud removed they could find string. So I was referred to obgyn and she did u/s IuD was on right place. Dr dilated my cervix and couldn’t find them string. So now I have an Hysteroscopy appointment. We’re they able to take out yours??
Pano po tinanggal ung iud nyo mam?
How did it go?
Having same problem waiting for my scan 😢
So what if the iud falls or slips down from the fundus? Can the strings wrap around the outside of the cervix?
Uncomfortable!? Stop gaslighting your patients and say the words "extremely painful"!
Tbh, the only painful part for me of iud placement was the cervix injection. The rest was just uncomfortable. But I must admit, the doctor who was doing it did great job by asking questions about my life to distract me 😊 I really like mine and recommend 😉✨
As always I love your videos. I can learn so much 🖤
What do you mean by "cervix injection"? I'm curious.
@@mujer579 they give numbing shot into your cervix as pain control method :)
Can i just choose to go straight to the hysteroscopy for the removal?
I don’t know that I can stand the whole idea of it being pulled out and all that. It makes me anxious
Can you make a video about the 4 different hormonal IUDs!?
I already have! If you scroll back you’ll find it! Or actually it’s linked in the description of this video!
I'm going to be honest, I dont like OBGYN's description of pain as "uncomfortable".
Cowboy up and just say it, it hurts like hell.
My gyno couldnt find my IUD. It was very painful her fishing around prodding and scrapping inside my cervix and uterus. It felt like sharp stabbing pains. Couldn’t fit me in for an ultrasound now anxiously awaiting that appt a week from today. This was three days ago and I’m still experiencing severe cramps and consistent bleeding. Is this normal? Im so scared and have no one to talk to about this. Any advice?
How often does an iud migrate into the abdomen😳 I'm 5 weeks pp and wanted an iud. Now I'm nervous to get one
Extremely rare. And the IUD itself doesn’t migrate. It would only be in the abdomen if there was a uterine perforation during insertion!
They give sedation for that 😮 I had that done for a test the hysterscopy ( Spelt wrong I think ) and never got anything for it. So this scares me getting iud out because I know my strings are hight up
Can my family Doctor remove my IUD or it has to be my OBGYN??? I have an appointment for a physical next week with my Family Doctor, my OBGYN is booked until the end of June and I needed out soon. 😩
How can you talk so calmly about this as if it’s all fine!!!! It’s a disgrace that this thing is being put into women, causing symptoms that doctors are not prepared to admit, and then getting lost inside a number of women! I’d like to bet that if this was a device for men, it wouldn’t be licensed
Now, how would you remove the iud without strings, my strings are not curved up into my uterus or anything they actually fell out and I’m dreading to know how they will remove my iud if I don’t have any strings anymore, I did get an ultrasound and my iud is still in place.
When you get one removed after it expires, can you have another placed the same day?
Yes :)
You don’t want to do that - wait a week . Plus certain insurances won’t cover them don’t together they need to be done separately
@@allthethingswithjuliet3037 usually the issue us that the insurance company needs to pre-approve the new IUD. Call the doctor's office ahead of your appointment and have them put in a request for a new IUD so that it's already approved when you go for your IUD removal appointment.
I have my Iud please it’s been a year and ever since getting it. I was never able to feel the strings now over a year. I’ve been getting very bad cramping. My doctor had me get an ultrasound and then in vaginal ultrasound they could not find the IUD then I had gone to get an x-ray. They still cannot find my IUD. I’ve never passed it so I don’t know where it is.
I love the way you elaborate.
Can you give me some more information on are you D’s in particular skyla it’s already been a year and two months of my insertion and I’ve gained over 20 pounds I’ve never gained that much weight I’m actually weighing what I weighed for giving birth to my son is there any sort of link between weight gain and IUDs
I think so I have gained 7lbd since I had mine in December and I regret it now,bc my doctor cut the strings too short and now she can’t take it out.
So confused... just had Mirena replaced (after 7yrs of no periods/bleeding - yes I delayed the replacement by 2yrs but still no periods/bleeding during that time) and now with this new one I am spotting randomly, cramping, what I think was probably a period? but then 2 weeks later it happens again.. so things are very different this time around. Last week at my follow up, I am told the new hormone load has 'woken up' my hormones/reproductive system, my ovaries appear "big & juicy' yes a direct quote! The IUD is in perfect position so its not that it has slipped down at all which was his first concern. So how does a new load of levonorgestrel make me bleed, when I didn't at all on my last IUD?
😨😨😭 they couldn’t find the strings of my IUD!!! I’m so scared 😭😭😭
same here, just had an xray and its upside down lol
Me also
I wish I had seen this video I would never have insected an iud.the Dr couldn't find mine yesterday, I am scared.
False statement...this painful
I love my mirena the cooper one I had first my body didn’t like but I am on my second mirena time to replace it again
I just went to my doctor because I was having sharp pain… and my IUD is not in the uterus it’s in the cervical canal. She couldn’t get out. So now I need surgery to remove it.
Aww man speedy recovery... they cant find mine im scared
hey how did it go?
hey how did it go?
We haven't been having sex for a loooooong while now. We argue ect. He is a scorpion male and he is on edge cause of no sex.
My favourite Latina doctor
Omg🥺🥺thank you so much!!
I went to my OBGYN last week because of post menopausal cramping and bleeding. She, of course did a pap, and asked me how long I've had my IUD. 😳 how did I even forget I had one? I told her about 20 years (I know, I know 🙄) So she tried to remove it but WOW it hurt alot as she tugged. She couldn't get it out and is setting up a date to surgically remove it.
Question: what can I expect? I'm such a Sissy la-la 🥺 and am definitely scared. Is there a lot of pain after...bleeding? And for how long
Thanx in advance ❣️❣️
how did the surgery go?
@@IAMALLURESIMONE it went great. She removed the IUD easily. No complications. I had some cramping for a few days and minimal bleeding. Definitely glad I did it. Also the cramping I had pre op is gone completely now...YAY.
Had laparoscopic surgery to remove Mirena IUD, it was caught in fatty tissue by my left rib. Had two babies after the removal, now contemplating getting the copper IUD.
Sis how was it my doctor want to book me for this too, do they put u to sleep..
By you left rip!! How did it get way up there
@@folababy4143 The x-rays showed the IUD by my intestines, I was put under general anesthesia so yes I was asleep 😴 Went home the same day.
@@silvasroxie Not sure 🤔
I believe when I got it it was too soon after giving birth and my uterus could have been pierced at the time it was inserted 🤷♀️
how long was recovery?
I just got one yesterday. Hurt like crap.
Question? You said string or like fine hair? My husband complaints: the string feels like wire and he even had a red mark on his penis. Why is it causing him discomfort? Please answer.
It is like fishing line, so can be prickly on the end. Sometimes your doctor can adjust it so it won't prick.
Hello,
I am 35 years old and tried to have the IUD set up a few days ago, but without success. My doctor said that my cervix was not dilated enough and tried several times to introduce it but couldn't. I mention that this was done in my last day of period as recommended.
The alternative presented was to do it under anesthesia, but still she didn't recommend this, or use hormonal solutions of course.
Also I mention that I had a pregnancy in 2017 and I had a C section because I was not dilated at all. Could these situations be linked?
Aldo could you please tell me if you had this kind of situations with your patients? Also would you recommend to try having the IUD set up with another doctor?
I confess that it hurt and now I am a bit scared. Also thinking that if it's so hard to put it how it will be to withdraw it if something doesn't go right.
Many thanks in advance for your advice.
Does it hurt when they put it in?
Can you do laparoscopic surgery with a spinal anesthesia? I had that for hysteroscopy, and I did get one "breakthrough" contraction, but it quickly dissipated with IV pain meds. I don't like being intubated for general anesthesia.
Me too
Thank you for the video! I had to have mine surgically removed from my uterine muscle.
Did you have to have a full general anaesthetic for this?! 😳
@@traceybrown4396 usually yes. Just had this done in July, and done laparoscopically. Granted mine went through my uterine wall and traveled to my appendix area.
Hi thanks for this informative video it was very thorough. I have had my iud for ten years 07/07/2022 should be the removal date. However I delayed it till after my period. The thing is since my period started on July 11 2022 it never stopped. Can I remove my iud while still in my period? P.s my period had never lasted for 3 weeks before an wondering if it's because of the iud
What kind of IUD is Mona lisa
This is to much 😢 I rather take a damn pill
This happend to me and they had to use a hook up through my cervix and blindly fish for it out.
Yes, I mentioned this fish hook!
I got mine inserted 6 days ago and I've been bleeding heavily since day two of insertion. Might there be a problem?
I'm nervous. I went to get mine removed and they couldn't find the string at all and they dug and it hurt. So I'm going back for a ultrasound... should I be worried cuz I am
Same they had to refer me to an OBGYN for an ultrasound
I had an X-ray they found it but it’s not up and down is t is looking at me 😔 waiting to see for ultrasound
Can we use menstrual cups while we have IUD inserted?
Yes, you can. I do.
I love your videos!!! I love your vlogs :) Can you make a video on what happens when someone has a abnormal Pap smear?
well, well, "discomfort"... what a convenient word. Spollies and "fish hook" foraging into your cervix, I think if you talk about it as "discomfort" it was just never done on YOUR cervix. I had a case of lost IUD (doctor later said it probably came out in the toilet without me noticing... great! What a safe stuff to not get pregnant ☠) and had to live through this "string research", it was a solid 7/10 of pain, 8/10 being when I broke my arm (and my IUD placement was 1/10) but i went through because what can I say? but then the worst was that I had THEN 2 days of 8/10 pain in cramps and feeling like my inside had been butchered and pierced by a thousand knives and i couldn't put cream or anything to ease it, painkillers didn't do the trick either.
Honestly just please do the ultrasound as soon as you don't find the strings before doing all the cleaning/hook stuff, so at least a patient that doesn't have anything inside doesn't have to suffer through an extensive 20min of infructuous research. Just do the cleaning and research later, once you've seen the IUD with the ultrasound.
I wish I never got mine. Doctor did not tell me about a follow up consultation. Three months in, having bad symptoms. Asked the doctor to have it removed and could not find the IUD after all the procedures you described. Now waiting to get an X-ray to determine where it is. 😩😩😩😩
Same happened to me i today they found it in my abdomen via X ray , now I need surgery 😢 what was your outcome ?
@@isam1537 Sorry to hear! The IUD didn’t show on the X-ray. The doctor said it must have fell out due to my heavy periods. It could be, there was a few days I felt blood clots come out but was too grossed out to look at it. Hopefully that was the case.
@@mtorvez2745 that’s great to hear ! Thank you for replying
What were your symptoms? Im experiencing severe cramping & excessive discharge.. i can’t feel the strings myself.
So u can get pregnant then if it slipps out of place...how often do you have to go for check ups to know if the iud is in the right place?
And how common is it to get lost iud ?
I don't understand, you say it's rare, but I know three women allready who's strings where lost. I have a iud too, I'm just concerned.
I loved how you explained everything now I’m not scared if the IUD gets lost inside
They couldn’t get my iud out 2 times second time I got medication to take before and I was in so much pain now I have to be put under anesthesia! Lmao it’s more than discomfort.. my strings were tucked in and I’m so scared
Question? What happens when the IUD is expired can you still get pregnant?
If so how do you know?
Am really nervous now,my iud strings was not found and she said I will need an ultrasound tomorrow,I am very worried about this,I hope it will be taken out easily.
IUD placement for me was by far the most painLESS birth control I have ever had done. I had the shot which I HATED! Very painful. The one in my arm hurt so so bad and bruised so badly. This procedure was so fast I honestly didn’t realize she was done I even had a pap done as well… so if you all are having that much paid then I’d say TALK to your doctor. They can’t fix the problem or help with pain if they don’t know, my doctor was very vocal and constantly checking on me. Very well done!
QUESTION?! My doctor left mine longer so it bundles up and moves out of the way. As my partner at the time is larger, and could definitely feel it, and it was uncomfortable for him. My question being… why can I feel it? When he states he felt it I do too. Almost like he may be pushing the IUD against my uterine wall? And can I remove it myself? Since it is longer? It takes forever to get an appointment, and at this time I no longer want it or need it. My apt is 2 months out.
Question 3 why was I have spotting around my normal period time for about 5 months and then it just stopped again? I did check for my string it’s their and took pregnancy tests. All negative. Thought odd.
Yikes!!!! You guys can feel it? Ok, now I’m totally freaking out. I’m having placement next month. Wish you the best and hopefully she will answer your questions soon!
Did you end up taking it out? There was a bit there where mine was poking my husband but it was the strings. I can't remember if we had them trimmed or if they just settled into place on their own. Haven't had a problem since.
Absolute bullshit!! I had to have the fish hook to find the strings even after 3 shots of anesthetic it was incredibly painful but we are woman and can handle child birth But absolute bullshit that it isn't that painful... Incredibly painful
Thank you for making this video! I recently got my IUD inserted on May 1st and went to my check up and they could not find the IUD so I have to go get an ultrasound. I had a lot of questions and this really helped me a lot. Thank you! ❤️
The ob tried for 20 min to remove my iud under ultrasound guidance. My strings were lost. Turns out it's embedded and I need surgery now. I've only had it 5 months but at week 7 I had a horrible pain and that's when I noticed the lost string.
So I can feel the strings but I'm not sure if the strings are so thin that I'm actually feeling two( it's curved to one side) or I'm actually feeling one 🫣
more vlogs would be great! I love watching what a day in your life looks like as an OBGYN.
Will the insertion of iud cause breeding?
No, it is supposed to prevent that. It may cause some light bleeding though.
I wished I would have never gotten this IUD. Thank God when it’s removed.
This happened to me today , my doc used a camera to find my iud. I will never get an iud again. It was so painful omg they added water to expand my uterus to find it a whole hour
Thank you for the video. I have had an ultrasound to try and find my IUD and they still can't find it. I haven't had an x-ray yet. I just tried to have a CT scan but couldn't do it, should I see if an x-ray will reveal where it is?
Love your videos! Can you make a video about ovarian cysts? I have one, it bothers me at times. Should I worry? I also have the mirena.
I have cyst too, should i worry about it???
I'm so happy I found ur video. I have an ,iud and went to the doc and they couldn't find the strings. I'm scared.

Hey thanks for the video, I am in the case of the lost IUD locadet by an ultrasound up my uterus the think is that I find out because I’m pregnant the baby is just below and they can take it out without risking the baby life any suggestions 😢
:( just wasn’t consentual you can obviously see how painful it is and how you’re trying to justify it
