🥁☕🙌
Yeah... 🔥🔥 Waiting for more Chris Adler
Willie is his brother playing guitar he's the guitarist for lamb of goa as well
@@justinjackson1884 Awesome info. Thanks Justin :)
It's missing another guitar. That's what it is. Or maybe bc only one of my headphones works.
Roooooooooooooooney.......................Jon Rice from Job for a Cowboy. Check him out Studio drum track footage of Unfurling a Darkest Gospel
The biggest thing people seem to miss with Chris' drumming is that Chris has also played guitar and he is a riff writer on the drums. He literally riffs out on drums, writing drum parts that stand on their own as a musical idea. It's something that stood out to me right from the first time I heard these guys. 11th Hour and Ruin are absolute drumming classics! Epic as efffffff
He played bass for a bit, has said multiple times he'd like to learn guitar. Listen to his speech at modern drummer.
Those two songs have some of the filthies Ass riffs and drums..One of the best heaviest breakdown ever
@@metalwhore His drum riffs are epic! Love some Chris Adler in the morning 🤘
agreed on 11th hour and ruin
He was going to play bass when Burn the Priest started but that spot was filled and in his own words he said “fuck it, I’ll play drums”. I don’t think he plays much guitar.
His and willies timing are reminiscent of dime and Vinnie. So fluid
Yes exactly
Yes Mike. That esp brother connection
I totally agree with you ..these 2 brothers grew up togeather playing and it shows..just like Vinnie and dime therr break beaks are some of the best like Pantera
I love his drumming, he uses more chinas and splashes then many other drummers, the short decay on his cymbals really kicks through the track.
YES! You nailed it
Chris really is one of the best modern metal drummers. Hes a work horse, and hes put in the work. Hard to tell from just a few vids, but he does it all. Also, that's his brother on guitar. LoG, is basically their baby. Hes absolutely one of the best.
Willy and Chris are literally my two biggest inspirations for playing both guitar and drums but Chris isnt with Lamb of God anymore. He got kicked out for Art Cruz. He was pretty bitter about it too.
Still sucks that Chris is no longer in LOG...he was the reason I first listened to them...even though I am more a guitar player fanatic....
You sure he got kicked out? I thought it was his choice and it was an amicable split. Either way, ya, total bummer.
@@kaynesantor8136 no, chris went on record expressing how the parting was in no way mutual as this was his lifes work of 24 years. He also stated that this definitely isnt the end of the line for him. Idk what hes working on now but I'm been patiently waiting for his return
Yup REALLY digging it Kayne!
Master of the splash cymbals! Love how he implements them in every song he's part of! 🤘🏼🥁🤘🏼😎
and his chinas, and the ride bell
@@ExplizitDuester right?! 🤣
Right on!
Stewart Copeland the original Slpash master
The first time I saw Megadeth I was lucky enough to catch them during Adlers brief time as their drummer. I don't think I've ever heard a more perfectly played set
AMAZING
Same! He nailed it! Megadeth is always a good time anyway, but add Chris to the mix and you got something special.
The amount of times I watched that Drum Clinic. Absolutely unreal talent between the Adler Bros
Next level stuff. Total immersion in the music
@@AndrewRooneyDrums it's always siblings that have that special thing eh? Van Halen, Pantera, Lamb of God, even Greta Van Fleet
Same! I don't even play drums but i've watched just about everything they came out till a few years ago.
So thankful for another one Adler reaction.
Well done and what a drummer..
Now we need one more studio version 🤣👋🏽
He's so smooth. Love watching Adler that relaxed precision is so awesome
'Relaxed precision' NAILED IT
Best and coolest drummer out there. LOVE watching him play. So calm, so precise
He’s a beast. I started listening to lamb of god because of the drums of chris adler!! I’m a big fan of log because of this.
same...
You and me both brother!
I am in the same boat....I heard him playing Omerta...and I was hooked...never listened to LOG before that..
@@stephenpetrovich2383 not a bad place to start! That bell work kicks ass!
same
I was there for the drummers festival!
Killer drummer. Awesome reaction.
You should check out “Blood Of The Scribe” from this same 2004 performance. He hits everything on his kit in that one song
Awesome!
@@AndrewRooneyDrums Blood of the Scribe is fantastic. One thing that you miss in the Modern Drummer performance is that when he goes into the 4/6 polyrhythm on the bell of the ride cymbal the lyrics are "The anvil cracks The hammer" .... so it gives that whole blacksmith rhythmic hammering texture counter to the pulse of the song.
They're playing so well that they make it look easy. Like great athletes who are "in the zone."
Yes! Perfect analogy
His entire performance with his brother from this show is incredible. It's unbelieve that he didn't start playing until he was 21! Great drummer, but just as importantly, a great composer in terms of the parts he comes up with.
Every time I hear this song, I be jumping to that beat as much as Chris be hopping on the drum throne.
I am SO glad you're doing this song. It's just so amazing. This band is full of perfectionsists
Chris Adler his signature ride bell 😇 great choice !!
They did the song "Blood of the Scribe" at this same event and it's one of my favorite LoG songs. Probably fun to analyze.
Blood of the scribe is my absolute favorite from this masterpiece of an album
I think I'll have to do this whole set Michael. I want to hear what he has to say also
Blood of the scribe is the best drumming he’s ever done
Love re-watching his drummer fest videos. If there's one cymbal on his kit that I love the most its that Paiste Flanger Bell (on the left above the hi-hat, you'll hear it during the intro to the song). Sounds amazing. So much power to it, so clean.
I have been lucky enough to see Chris Adler live 5 times, all of them in the pit and most up against the cage. Probably the best thjbg about watching Chris play is the smile. Dude has a grin ear to ear while he plays and it's just fantastic to see someone absolutely love what they are doing
Absolutely amazing to watch!
Two precision machines. I'm never tired of watching these videos of them playing, it's wonderful. These guys have such a good taste, such musicality.
Chris is one of a kind. I think you will enjoy a lot of his stuff. Very clean drummer and unique sound.
Went to a LoG show in 09 was amazing and this is why adler is on my top 10 drummers list, all of the guys were super nice when we bought merch and chatted with em really willing to connect with their fans they all have such talent.
Ahah saw them in 2009 open for metallica. Best show of my life.
Now -that- you've got something to die for.
Also, really looking forward to this one!
Yo thanks Justin! That was a copy paste from the original video link too! So the og upload is slightly incorrect.
🥁👌
@@AndrewRooneyDrums loved it! Those parts that sounded so open were only like that due to the missing 2nd guitarist. Check out the full song when ya have a spare few minutes. Thanks for the react!
There are more songs of him in this set, they're all great!! Do them all!! Lol
Personally I feel that “Grace” is a great example of Chris’s ability to groove and make a complex beat look east as f!!
Right on!
Grace was later. No anything off of ashes of the wake is amazing
These videos of Chris Adler are mainly what got me into drumming. I was particular blown away by his footwork... insane musician.
Back when I HAD a drumset, this guy was one of my favorites to learn from, hands down. I remember seeing his snare was angled way differently than I'd ever seen snares before so I tried it; it didn't really work for me but it was cool!
What an absolute unit!! Crazy precision and execution.
It's not a Kiwi thing, it's your thing !!
The list of great Prog & Rock Drummers and Bands you haven't play was and is long and I've watch you from the start and it still Amazes me !! 🤔 🥁🎶
Did you know that when he first started playing drums he didn’t have double bass so he used his single kick and his floor tom.
As a metal drummer (also jazz/blues lover), I love getting suggestions from friends in other genres. This reversal of what I’m used to is beautiful. Keep it up my man!!🤘🏻🔥
Yes Trevor! Great to stay open minded :)
Great track .. yea it’s common to skim the bells and ting the splashes in this genre and get that sweet groove pumping ..amazing live band so much fun 🤩
Hello Andrew. I just found your channel and I’m loving it!!! Greetings from Holland.
Awesome! Thank you!
Yes! Chris Adler is one of my drum heroes for sure. I started playing drums pretty late in life, and his approach to the craft has been a great inspiration for me. No matter what genre you play in really. I think you're absolutely right about that special feel he has. Great reaction, thanks Andrew! And of course it would be awesome if you got the chance to talk to Chris!
Really enjoy your videos! Cheers from Sweden!
Thanks David! Fingers crossed I can get Chris on the podcast!
there is a video of chris playing in your words and hes so damn good at what he does he starts staring off at the lights in the ceiling for a few bars while he keeps jamming with out missing anything
Thanks for the follow up! Adler inspired my fills (RLKK RLKK) and cymbal work for a long time and is the reason I started. Loved the calculus trying to figure out his ergonomics lmao, cheers
Thanks Bryson. Need a degree in astrophysics to understand all this :)
Savage drumming and agreed all the while just relaxed and seriously Laying down! Chops for days!
ONE OF MY FAVORITE METAL BANDS!!! I remember when these guys broke out, it was a pleasure to be a part of that revolution i heavy metal back then. Chris is a monster... That entire band is all full beastmode!
really nice to see you enjoy his drumming, been listening to log since i was 13 🤘
That's awesome!
Loved it. Thank You!!!!
I love drummers that Bob up and down and enjoy themselves
Yes more Lamb of God, grew up with them so love seeing more of Chris love his drumming. "Blacken The Cursed Sun" is probably my favourite Lamb of God song overall followed by "11th Hour" and "Ruin"
Haven't listened that much to LoG, but heard Chris' playing on a Protest the Hero album he worked on and loved the drums on that 👌🏻
Excellent!
What album was this? I need to know.
Bless you Prof! Thanks for the vid!🤘
My pleasure!
About 15 years ago one of the albums came with a special dvd with the recording process…during that time Chris Adler rented a place 6 miles away from the studio and road a bike daily to sessions to sort of work his legs and build cardio as he said.
Fun fact that’s his brother Willie Adler on guitar accompanying him for the clinic (you can always tell by the way he holds his pick)
They’ve been playing since they were kids so you can see why Chris is so comfortable
I hope Willie doesn't grip his willie the way he grips the pick. Ow.
That snare . The man is a beast
Yup!
Lol... he's so damn good man
Love it. Keep it coming. Adler’s a beast.
I was backstage at a LoG show many years ago and caught sight of Chris doing his warm-ups.
Instead of a practice kit, he had an bunch of 2x4s set in such a way that the ends of the 2x4s were in the places drum skins would be.
He had kik pedals hitting 2x4s.
(I'm not a drummer but assume this an accuracy exercise?)
I had never heard of them, but was very impressed with this guy warming up in the back of a truck, and was looking forward to seeing the band....
Needless to say I bought the record the next day...(actually the "Killadelphia" DVD)
I have this DVD and the talking parts with Chris are really great. One of the more interesting revelations is when he talks about being asked about some of his “weird” choices with what hand/foot he leads with at points in time of a song or his other stylistic choices. What Chris let people know was that he is actually left handed. He said that when he bought his first kit and began to learn to play he set his drums up to what he always saw his favourite drummers were doing. He then recalled the first time he saw a drummer with his hi-hat “on the wrong side” until he figured out the guy was left handed. Chris was far enough along into his learning he never bothered to try it the “right way” and just looked at it as another obstacle on his path to learning drums. He can’t read music or transcribe what he’s doing when he plays…….he said he calculates and figures out and then commits it to memory to play the songs. If I recall correctly he said he doesn’t play to a click track either.
Superb drummer and also very smart and well spoken.
Great vid Andrew! Can you react to Dominator's drum cam whilst playing Vorbiscum Satanas? Might not be your type of music but I've honestly never seen someone hit a drum kit so hard, fast and accurate for as long as that's guy!
A real master of his craft i mean a record after the other he showed an extreme level of creativity and versatility.
Absolute wonderful
Excellent Adnan
First song I heard by them was Ruin. After I heard that standout fill I knew this drummer was something special. Such a sick talent.
Chris Adler Also played drums and produced, I believe, a Protest the Hero album while they were between drummers.
Awesome. Can't wait to hear more from him
If you have time Idobe a reaction to the full version of this video as there's not only three songs played through but also him speaking about his technique and background!! Awesome interesting stuff!
I'll do it!
@@AndrewRooneyDrums Thanks man. You're amazing!! I'm not even a drummer and I still get a kick out of watching you nerd out over amazingly talented drummers haha
Chris Adler and Jason Bitner were definitely my two favorite metal drummers of the era they blew up in. They both have such unique qualities to their playing that are instantly noticeable on songs they are a part of.
I love that recognizable trademark in a drummers sound
He has his brother Willie in on these. They both are masters of their instruments!!! 🤘🏼🤘🏿🤘
Total musical/brother connection on display
Yep! Lamb of God has some amazing songs for drumming! I would recommend the songs "Ruin" or "In Your Words". I cannot wait to see them live in 2 weeks!
I'm digging this Bryan
That guitar player is willie adler. His brother. That’s why it’s so perfectly timed and has the syncopathic bass to chugs
Maaaan I used to watch this modern drummer colab DVD with him and Jason Bittner all the friggin time! His lefty technique on right handed drums puzzled me so much back then haha, there's certain licks of his I just wasn't able to replicate because I'm used to right handed thinking and playing.
Right on Ramsey! He's a master!
1:56 It's a sub drop trigger pad. Probably somewhere down in the 60-70Hz range. I've seen him live (with LoG), when he hits it the whole venue shakes.
LOVE IT!
It was crazy too a few years ago he worked with Megadeth on their last album and afterward Lamb of God and Megadeth toured together and he played with both bands for the tour. I saw them live in San Francisco for that tour. He's a machine.
No offense but you are a hell of a lucky bastard 😂
I love your videos, great Chris Adler, merci
Thanks Nicolas!
well, your play button over there looks like on another level mate
My 7yo son made it :)
@@AndrewRooneyDrums seven like seven?? bless you son, supporting his father at that age and got talents as well. should be proud of him that's a full package. say hi to him for me..
So nice song! Tolles video!!!
Brothers, many hours in the garage in Richmond Va.
🤘Richmond baby, these guys are heroes
That smile you got, by listening to Metal ❣️
HAHA Jon. You got me
Seen Chris live 4 times with LOG and once with Megadeth. He's the master of his craft. Thanks for another great video. From a non drummer I learn a lot from your videos. You should do Set to Fail next or Ruin both will blow your mind
Thanks Kevin!
You should seek him out. I've bumped into him twice at other bands' shows in Richmond, VA, maybe like 8-10 years ago. I got a picture with him both times and he seemed to be just a super dude. Obviously there to check out the other bands (BTBAM, Tesseract, and Animals as Leaders was one show), but was hanging out by the sound board all night taking pics and signing stuff. It would be great to hear you and Chris chatting it up all nerdy about drums.
Hopefully can get him on Chris!
Chris Adler is a monster!! He also played drums on one of Protest the Hero's albums called Volition. I highly recommend checking that out!
Oh my god, heck yeah, that album is incredible. I've been a PTH fan since the early days (they're local to me) and even after all these years it still blows me away that they got Adler to perform on their album.
@@warren_r YES! I LOVE PTH. I was lucky enough to meet them at a show in Montreal, great dudes!
It blew me away hearing how good Chris is at playing that kind of style.
Holy crap I had no idea! Thank you for this info. PTH is one of my all time favorite bands.
Sounds like I've got plenty of Chris Adler to still check out
Love Chris Adler. Love his work on the Volition album by Protest The Hero.
Track from the record "Ashes of the Wake " he also added "Hourglass "
In this song, during that “naked” syncopated section where he’s riding on the splash cymbal, a second guitarist is playing a lead in the open space there. This is a performance with just Chris and his brother willie, who were both in the band at the time.
Chris was a bass player and guitarist before he played drums. He started playing drums at the age of 21. His rhythm, timing and feel for music is impeccable, due to his incredible musicianship.
Jeez!! I have been thinking who you look like and YES! Bruce Willis! 😂😂😂
He was a beast .great drummer
Killer song 👍🔥🔥 awesome
Chris is one of the main reasons Meinl and Mapex took off with the US markets. He was on numerous covers and his spotlights really brought Meinl to the metal community more than any other drummer. I still have the Modern Drummer magazines showing trends and he kinda did wonders for Meinl. No one really even realizes that lol
Hes the reason i got a Mapex Saturn iv exotic. Hes the man.
It would be amazing if you would look at Dirk Verbeuren of his time with the metal band Soilwork. His drumming is also insane.
Oh yes! He followed Chris in Megadeth on Chris’ recommendation. They have a very similar snare /hi hat ergonomic for Mr Rooney to digest as well.
Dirk Verbeuren does everything. His Soilwork stuff is super creative and technical. He’s done a lot with Devin Townsend, some of which is mind blowing. He can literally do it all.
From what I remember in a video, he said he doesn't think about his drumming at all when he's playing or he will stuff up, said he does maths equations in his head while he's playing
you should watch Chris's heel-toe technic! very impressive
Right on!
I really want to know what that cymbal is on the far left hand side that he hits. It has a very distinctive sound that I’ve never heard any other drummers use.
Thx Rooney !
this video made me die hard lamb of god fan 16 years ago when i was 15. and i still dig it.In hourglass song from the same festival you can see his heel foot pedal technique. and its crazy shit
Awesome!
Hourglass was played in this same session too. Hourglass is the epitome of their work, and worth checking out.
Only guitar and drums were used for the drum festival, his brother Willie Adler (one of the two guitarists for Lamb of God) was playing the guitar backing for him alone at the festival.
Honestly as someone who is familiar with the song, it's a really interesting listen to simply take all the bells and whistles away of the bass, second guitar and vocals just so you can focus purely on the instrumental aspect of the drumming while retaining the context of the song.
Exactly! This is literally the perfect context. Hats off to MD
One of my old bands actually played 2 back to back shows with Lamb of God when they were called Burn the Priest and the first thing I noticed about Chris when he played was that he sits really low on the kit. Even back then before their name change he was one of the best drummers I had ever seen. Like you said, he is so relaxed while playing and one of the nicest guys you could talk to. Those 2 shows that we played with those guys are 2 of my favorite memories. I think the first show there were more band members than people in the crowd and 2nd show was insane playing at some old barn in Ohio that had a skate bowl built inside it with us and them (Burn the Priest-LOG) playing on a platform, just big enough for a band to fit on built outside the barn, that was also about 30 feet in the air so one wrong step and down you went...lol. As the bands played there were semi pro and pro skaters skating this giant bowl inside this barn ... one of the craziest experiences of my life. That being said, Chris is definitely an amazing drummer.
Awesome input Ken.
Thank you for the fantastic comment
Great video! Here's a suggestion for another insane metal drummer: Jon Rice performing Unfurling A Darkened Gospel for Job For A Cowboy. Its insane as in how technical, fast and yet so relaxed and precise that guy is
Thanks Adam!
Wish I could give two thumbs up, one for the Greta metal "how dare you" and then one for the Bruce Willis comment comp. Keep it up brother-man!!!
Thanks Rod! LOL
You wanna be truly blown away? Watch Dylan Elise's drum solo at the drum clinic. UNBELIEVABLE!!
he is one melodic drummer... i listened to lamb of god because of him...
first time i encountered log was in modern drummer...
Awesome!
Lamb of god , my favourite band from 13 years
the orchestration Chris has with his cymbals is just awesome
Agree!
You really had to check Thomas Haake ( Meshuggah's drummer ) ! One of the most important drummer of modern metal ;)
( And "Hey" from France ! )
