I think you should put the garbage can by the countertop almost across from the refrigerator.
On the white side of the counter.

The apartment looks great with all that brick on the walls. Love all the sunshine that comes into your home, but window coverings will give you more privacy. Until you decide on curtains maybe rollup shades will work for a temporary fix.
