The thing I really like about these duets is that whatever people think, the oldies prove there's life in the old dogs yet. I haven't seen a bad performance from the seasoned pro's like Max, Brod Smith, Doug Parkinson, Russell Morris etc. They can all still sing!
Vale Max Merritt. Best known for his 1975 hit Slippin’ Away, with his band Max Merritt and The Meteors, which reached number two while his other well known hit was Western Union Man.
'Slipping Away' was such a change in style for Max Merritt when it came out in the 70's, yet it has become an Australian classic that just never gets old. Max was also a classic who was taken before he really got old, but he has left us with the gift of his music. Let it slide Max.....
*_OMG!! ... the greatest-ever 'torch-anthem' ... both written & performed by - "australian-claimed" - Kiwi's .... some things never change ....Max Merritt is a frickin bona fide musical genius..._*
Definitely not. I maintain the original would arguably be the best song to come out of NZ ever, by Max and the Meteors, way back then up until now. This is so good to hear again.

Definitely one of the best duets ever peformed on rockwiz. Max Merrit is wonderfual and I absolutely adore the song Slipping Away. Catherine has a lovely voice and it works in well with Max's. Thankyou for posting this clip.
This is just tremendous. Max's vocals are every bit as good as they were 35 years ago. And Catherine's voice is the perfect match for Max. Her skill in moving from melody to harmony and back again is magnificent! I've played this a dozen times today.
So many great memories, from seeing him as a young boy at Sunbury music festival in 1972 to watching my hippie parents dancing around the house to the album .Out of the blue .. in mid seventies .. beautiful song and beautiful voice RIP Max
RIP Max Merritt , Slippin Away is a hauntingly beautiful song that always brings a tear to the eye, especially knowing you have slipped away :( and on my birthday.
If people don't know the Stewie that Max referred to, it was Stewie Speer the drummer for his band the Meteors from 1967 and was in the big car prang the band were involved in. Stewie had his legs crushed and lost the top of some fingers. Max lost an eye. Max is another Kiwi by the way!

RIP Maximus a true kiwi gladiator 😥you never stopped fighting and gave some truely remarkable send offs to your friends. May you jam on in heaven Max and god bless 👍✌
RIP Max. Thanks for the music. He was a phenomenal entertainer. News of his death today saddened me. Such a horrific way to go. Death is not a respecter of how people leave us. 25/9/2020
So wonderful. This song was on the charts the year i started getting into music, and it's one of the greatest Aussie hits but yes Max is a New Zealander so it's a NZ hit. Who is this beautiful lady who sings it so well with him? RIP Max.
Oh my goodness....what an awesome duet...I lost my duet partner a year ago this last January...this makes me miss him all over again...wish I was young again n he was still here......Be blessed in all you do.
He sounded just like his recording. This song evokes so much emotion on so many levels. The sign of a brilliant singer, he knew just how to deliver it. I will always love this gorgeous song Max, thank you, sleep tite. 💗
Fabulous wonderful brilliant man, his group was of the best, heard him in NZ and Australia, areally top musician, he has, sadly 'passed on' but will always be remembered by his fans.
a timeless song, and MM sounds as good as ever ... takes me back to Melbourne's music scene in the late 60's, best music era ever and a great time to be young ! Thanks MM & the meteors for great memories.
this is me 9 years on, and god i still fancy catherine britt, god she kills this.xx i hope shes well and she reads this, i hope youre well catherine, and youre happy... if not, come and look for me.xxxxxx
Uma das mais belas musicas, só poderia ser interpretada por duas das mais belas vozes, de todos os tempos. Um dueto simplesmente fantastico..uhuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu !!!!!
Didn't think that you could come near the original recording of that song, and I hadn't heard of Catherine Britt, but this version is brilliant. She totally complements Max's vocals and is a uniquely outstanding singer in her own right. Nice tribute to Stewie. From the concerts, I vividly remember the hair, the cap, the beard and the eyes. We lost him almost 30 years ago. Thanks for posting.

Now that's a fantastic duet, RocKwiz was great for that.
Love this duet! Both compliment each other. Great song from the good days.
RIP MAX - for me this version you did with Catherine is just the best duet ever.
They combine superbly
Goodbye Max Merritt who died today. It's so sad you slipped away. Gone but never forgotten.
Brings back great memories of listening to max merrit and the meteors back in NZ decades ago. He's still go it❤

Catherine is brilliant ❤
Max owned this song purely through his voice. R.I.P. (1941-2020) 🎶 🎵

We all are going to get very very old. He sounds terrific even though he is very very old😂
Beautifully sung. I can watch this over and over.

One of the greatest pop songs of all time. A true Kiwi classic and an East Coast favourite (the hallmark of excellence).
2024 first time I have seen this. Cheers from NZ
I have enjoyed this track for many decades. It came out in 1975. Another brilliant track by a Kiwi. Well done from an Aussie.
