They lost because Kentucky made adjustments. The Zags didn't change with them. Kentucky just flat beat Gonzaga in the second half, offensively and defensively.
Gonzaga came into the game looking unstoppable, they were killing Kentucky with their ball screens and getting the ball where they wanted to. Props to Mark pope and the players for UK to come out and make the defensive adjustments to slow the zags down just enough to come back and get the win. Gonzaga still got some buckets, but Kentuckys defense shut them down for the most part. UK fan here. Zaga is tough and will be just fine - one heck of a team. What i have seen is the teams that are playing UK, the last 5-7 minutes of the game, their legs start to go....
Im a UK fan and that was a great game and happy for my team. I've watched several Zags games this year and years past. I've often rooted for the Zags, but one thing I've noticed especially this season is that they don't xlose out hames well with tougher teams. Rhey either don't make the necessary adjustments or they don't always keep their foot on the other teams throat and finish strong. IMO.
I'm apart of Big Blue Nation and im really pumped up with this team, we are on a mission for #9 and everyone knows it. We are hungry with a team full of seniors that all came together at Ky to win a championship. And its very possible as long as we can stay healthy. Gonzaga is gonna be a problem come march. I hope you are on the other side of the bracket with Duke and Auburn 😂. BBN is hungry for #9 🏆 🔵🔵💙💙
Anybody notice the play they ran for Stromer's 3 in the first half? I'd like to see more of that. I also wonder if anyone thinks running some plays for Ajayi in the midrange could get him going?
A few more freethrows or a couple threes and we win. But I am pretty concerned about the total inability to adapt to the zone. We looked like a team that has never seen a 1-3-1 before. I am confident we can address this as the season goes by but just disappointed that we didn’t have an answer in the moment.
Zags will be a team in March to deal with. Maybe another year you might be able to rush the court, 😢 your fans have class, very big shock to BBN. Great game and looking forward to our annual game. #BBN4life
From UK fan about time and hell of game...yall still have great year and look like final 4 team ..but so happy my Cats won this game ..more then you lost ..my favorite non sec school
I just assumed a quick response to that 2nd half 1-3-1 defense from Kentucky that never really materialized. I may be wrong, and certainly am no coaching expert, but this appeared to be an attack left unchecked.
This was a disgusting loss. so many things to touch on, but I just don't get coach Few. gregg should be starting for one. second, he does not seem to have an answer, ever, when the opposition makes adjustments.
Choke doesn't feel like the right word. Kentucky went on a 13-0 run pretty early in the Second half and it was a tight game the rest of the way. Once Kentucky stopped letting Gonzaga push them around on the glass we saw who the better team was!
UK definitely was the better team. They were out two of their top players, Lamont Butler was one of them. We've seen the Zags struggle to play a complete 40 mins for many years. Tale of two halves!
Concerned about Ajayi mental game, he can play basketball we know this but his light bulb is only dim and needs to be turned up for this team to go far in the tournament. Still feels like they are having tough time gelling together and having some real fun. Need to bring in past player like Suggs for pep talk. Thank you for the therapy! session. Let’s go this weekend! Stay healthy and bring victory home.
Great game considering Kentucky didn’t have there PG and best on ball defenders in the country and then Kerr went out with 8:40 left in regulation. BBN
Agree on the 3pt defense. I was concerned that Brea might get it going against the Zags but good D by Hickman and Stromer... didn't allow him any good looks from 3
that was a bad choke, they costed those last part of that game thinking they had it in the bag. They dont seem to have that want to win attitude and probably felt like they could just turn on again make a few shots to close it out so i hope that kicks in the butt and makes them realize that how matter how talented you are that doesn't mean you can take it easy.
Kentucky didn’t win that game by accident. Their adjustments led to a second wind in the overtime period. Coach Pope ended up putting together the correct combination. Kentucky traveled across the country and should have lost the game. They didn’t, because of their superior adjustments, planning, and training.
Gave it away at the line. Kentucky was perfect in regulation while Zags missed the front end of 1&1 2 times in the 2nd half. Credit to Kentucky for putting the pressure on the Zags
@@HollerTalk UK had nothing to do with one of the best free throw shooting teams in the country shooting 58% from the line in the second half, or missing uncontested shots.
Kentucky won so I feel petty for bringing this up but I'm trying to learn if what I thought was right. KY didnt hit shots against duke, they havent shot good from 3 in like 5 or 6 games and they still win. Obviously if your hitting tons of 3s your gonna win by bigger margins. But KY is an energy team, they have to get hit in the fave before they wake up, then the real Cats come out. Against clemson unevenly called game they didnt allow Cats to play physical but allowed Clemson to jump on players backs over and over again with no calls. KY is balanced and can beat teams in so many ways.

I'm disappointed in the comments. Does anyone here think that Kentucky might have had something to do with their own comeback? I think Gonzaga played two solid halves. Kentucky played one solid half. It was solid enough to take advantage, though. The Cats beat you straight up, without their starting point guard and with their backup point guard injured and out of the game midway through the second half.
