John Calipari's first 6 years at Kentucky was an UNBELIEVABLE run | The Calipari Era Pt. 1

- Kentucky basketball had gone 11 years without a final four and needed a shot in the arm. they needed an overnight resurgence, and there was only one man who could deliver that. so for several days thousands of us logged online to watch a 360 P Lo-res live stream of a door in hopes that that man would emerge.
In his first 6 years as head coach, John Calipari went 22-4 in the NCAA Tournament. That ties Rick Pitino for the best stretch of 26 Tournament games by a Kentucky coach.
In Cal's first six years the Wildcats hung four banners. See how they did it in this video.

Wow this is so freaking cool! Amazing work!
My favorite memory/ single play from this era was the John Wall breakaway dunk vs UNC. I looked at my wife and said: we're back baby!
Exactly. Can remember exactly where I was during that game. Exact sentiment with my family watching. Wow, what a time to be a UK bball fan.
Great video! I was a student at UK during Cal's first season 09-10 and you're right, the energy and passion of the fan base was special and unlike anything I've ever seen in college basketball. Although the last couple years have been disappointing and I think it's good Cal and UK parted ways, this video is a nostalgic reminder of the highs of being a UK basketball fan and some great years during my college and young adult life
We’re the same age. So if you’re like me we barely remember Pitino. I’ll always be grateful for Cal giving us these 6 special seasons. What a run.
Watching this reminds me how CLOSE Calipari came to not winning a single national championship during his 15 years! The way he was clutching his pearls during those Louisville and Kansas Final Four games they shouldve won easily. I'll never understand his insistence on playing as conservatively as possible when you have 7 footers like KAT who can hit NBA threes, or walking the ball up the court when your backcourt is John Wall and Eric Bledsoe, or telling a future NBA hall of famer Anthony Davis to just be a defender/shot blocker/putback dunker. If Pitino had coached those exact same rosters UK would had 5-6 titles in those 15 years and they wouldve averaged 85-95 point every single year instead of only clearing 80ppg 3 times in 15yrs!
Dude your grandfather is awesome! He's a top tier fan, and this is a top tier video.
Dude loving this Kentucky content! Top class
Thanks! Glad you enjoy it!
Still unbelievable that KENTUCKY HAS two top 10 draft picks, And Got Beat By Oakland Same thing ... With ST Peter's GLAD He's Gone...
Facts
Man... This brought bk some great memories! Go Big Blue!
Bo Ryan absolutely took Cals balls in that game and never gave them back
Absolutely incredible video!!!
Those first six seasons, except for one, were something very special to witness.
That Wisconsin game is when the one and done curse began
This was great I laughed and now I’m ready to cry
3 Favorite memories during this time (too hard to narrow to one):
1) championship game vs Kansas
2) Aaron Harrison's clutch 3s in 2014 tournament
3) the undefeated season up until that Wisconsin game
Much respect to the elder gentleman keeping those records like that. Now that is a fan with true dedication 🫡
Amazing video Steven. Love your videos #BIGBLUENATION

#Gobigblue!!!
Beating the living tar out of UCLA after blowing out Kansas in 2014 was absolutely magical.
Go Big Blue!!! #BBN
Love these videos Stephen. Keep em coming!
Amazing job!
AMAZING VIDEO
It makes me so mad to hear him say "I pulled back the reins a little bit". You always did that and that's one reason u don't have 2 chips instead of 1. Playing not to lose instead of to win. God I still can't stand to hear him talk with his double speak. Says alot of words without saying shit. And last but certainly not least, we should've also seen his yellow belly cowardly ways after intentionally getting tossed at SC and then being even more cowardly by not showing for the presser. 😡
Great video
Cal is the most bestest
Out of getting less with the best
@@bubbawubba2307 haha triggered ⬆️
WAS* and even then his ability to coach down the stretch costed Kentucky of a potential 2 more titles after 12’
@@isaiahevans4930 I agree! Cal is the most bestest of all time
I know you went to school at Murray, if your family is down here in west KY, I really want to watch a game with your grandfather. 💙
Family all lives in Louisville. But I’m going to show him this anyway haha
@@WatchKSR Might be able to charge a fee and raise some money for a charity if you did it at KSBar.
He was also a sleazeball back then.
Cal didn’t adjust to the game changing…Ultimately it led to him leaving….ego and arrogance can make you blind to your flaws..
Cals issue was he was only coach during that time uk was on that run to really embrace the 1 and done. So he was getting most of the top elite guys and he only got 1 ship out of it with a good head start lol. Once every other school started doing that he couldn’t figure out how to put a contending team together. And he’s never been a great x and os guys he will never out scheme you. His greatest strength as a coach is motivating and making u play with a high motor and a belief that u can do things u never done. That works well when u have the best talent by far when it’s a leveled playing field and you have to put a scheme together he can’t do that.
Should've noticed after game two that a certain someone couldn't coach a lick
Aaron Harrison is the only option
How much money would it take to sell me those notebooks?
We’re thinking about copying them and making a coffee table books out of them
Great idea...keep up the good work my friend
Disagree on the first 6 years, not True, the 12/13 team Didn't Qualify for Ncaa tournament..
Kanter is Turkish for crying out loud
12:47 Liberal socialism? 😂😂😂😂
First 6 years? We had an NIT with being the top seed in the NIT losing to the worst NIT team. Multiple seasons of tubbyesque losses. If it wasn't for last second miracle shots in the ncaa tournament in 2011 and 2014 it would of looked much different. And with the most talent in the country we were disappointing with many many losses.
