I'm SO glad you experimented with frozen, chunky fat because I have 40 pounds to do and I really dislike having to clean our meat grinder!! Guess what I'm doing this weekend? Love your channel!
Awesome video. I learn something new every time I watch your videos and look forward to them every day. I’ve been watching the previous ones on your channel. I am learning a lot from watching your channel. Love it. Very inspirational too! Thank you!
Good morning. Thanks for the helpful video. Sometimes when I have a small strainer and a large bowl, I put a chopstick through the tab to hold it in place. Love your videos! Have a great day
Can’t believe it! You live so near to me! I’m in Fayetteville. Hope you don’t think I’m a stalker. 🤪 Just love you and the channel. I’ve been watching quite a while and thought you might live in the area from various things you’ve said.
The way you're doing your tallow is how I was taught to 'wash lard'. If you had a big skillet of lard that maybe it got a little bit too brown and you wanted to save it, you did that 3 or 4 times with water and all of the impurities fell out.
Great video. Ali your local butcher may have tallow even cheaper. I get mine from my local old town store( beef) most of the time free, sometimes 50 cents per lb. The bison is the one expensive for me. Love everything, thank you
It's hit or miss for me at local Safeway meat dept. When they have ribeye on sale, I go in & ask for fat trimmings for the week, usually end up with 20-40lbs @.49 cents a lb~ excellent price for Arizona, imho. A dollar a lb is good too of course, especially getting it straight from the ranch. Never thought to look for bison though, great idea. What are you typically charged for that, if I may ask?
@@RV-there-Yet I don’t remember exactly cause was last year and she gave me a huge discount cause was trying to get rid of it but now that people are appreciative of that stuff I am on a waiting list. I will say was less than a dollar, but I might be wrong. If I find the right information I will share it
Actually Shawn built it to cover our generator. It has wheels so I can roll it close to the door to use as a table when I need to and I roll it back to cover the generator all of the rest of the time. I just got tired of seeing a big bulky think on the porch all the time. It’s hollow on the back and one side
Thank you, thank you ,thank you. I made it to the end and did NOT regret. I cannot find tallow in NJ. No farm or butcher within an hour drive from me sells it. They all thought i was nutZ! Shelf stable for how long? I thought it had to be stored in the fridge. And, how's your new roof? Sorry if i missed a vid..
The roof is great! Shelf stable indefinitely. I store the dry version in the fridge but the wet I feel more comfy with in the shelf. Just a personal thing.
Great video, Ali. Thank you for sharing this whole process. How long is the tallow shelf stable for? I have some pork fat that I’m going to render for lard soon. Thanks so much.
To make a truly orderless tallow, I add lavender and sage after the first rendering. I repeat the process with the herbs with each cleaning. The end result is a tallow that is infused with the smell of lavender and / or sage with no lingering beef smell.
Hi! Video came at the right time. I was just thinking about this. We always buy a huge rib roast to cut into steaks at the holidays and I always cut off so much fat. Can I use that fat or does it have to be from around the kidney's?
Great video! I didn’t learn about water method til I had already rendered mine and strained it. I threw it back in with water and strained off as shown but it still seems to have a beefy scent… I did run it through 2 or 3 times til there was little to no sediment. Do I keep going? Or is that just how it’s going to be this round?
I do the water and salt method two times and then I do keep heating it down until I noticed the smell is no longer there. It can take five times sometimes the smell will be more of a nutty flavor, a beefy flavor when it is done. The key patience!
What is the name brand of your meat grinder?? Where did you get it from ??? I have been looking for one…… I render tallow last fall ….. I used the wet method too …. I like your method better…. Using your blender…. Great tip !! Thank you
@@LittleHillHomesteadGa thank you! My dog LOVES chicken hearts and the meat dude at the grocery store gives me very strange looks when I ask for them! Also, I’ve gone so far as to dehydrate the food. He likes the crunch!

Cant wait to try these thanku so much and have a wonderful day ❤
To keep the strainer to the bowl or pot clothespin works too. Thanks for all you do always enjoyable
❤❤❤Tallow is wonderful stuff…
Thank you so much for this video. I have rendered tallow in the freezer. I wonder if I could do the water method at this point. I think I'll try😂
I bet you could.

I use paper towels in my collender to strain out impurities when I've made tallow.

I called a million stores and not one person had it. I thought $1 a pound was pretty good.

It’s a KitchenAid and we got it from Kohls actually. We had some kohls cash to use up and it was on sale.
Can you use that to cook or bake with that?
I use it in place of oil when I’m cooking. It makes amazing potatoes. I also whip it to make tallow body butter and body care stuff like soap.
where did u get your small roaster that you are using ? brand name of it how big is it
I actually got it at a thrift store for like $5. There are so many at thrift stores if you look.
What is Tallow ? what do you do with it?
I never heard of it at all before
it is beef fat basically. You render it down and use it to cook with or in body care. It is amazing once it is rendered down.
