Love them or hate them, the NXEC silver and white REALLY suited the HSTs and IC225s. Their livery really helped to cement my love for the HSTs and 225s. I was lucky enough to travel with NXEC when I was 4/5 years old.
I find it so odd how badly NXEC failed, it was truly an awful company and I still remember the announcement of a £2.50 reservation fee going down like a cup of cold sick. I really do miss NX on the MML though. Midland Mainline was an absolutely fantastic company, and I still miss the free tea and coffee they provided when travelling to London.
One class 91 loco was painted In the NXEC livery, it actually suited it if I remember. NX were the worst operator on the East Coast services especially north of Edinburgh. I used (and still do) use the first Southboubd service a day to commute to work and it would be cancelled almost every other day.
5k SUBs WOOOO HOOO! Congrats Vanmanyo! I loved the video btw!

Here in Germany, National Express is one of the best private operators. But from what I hear, that's despite their British owners, not because of that. NX Germany as an organisation was built by a lot of people who live and breathe railroads and that really shows.
I remember once seeing a NXEC hst speeding through mow cop on the Stoke - Manchester line of all places, an XC hire-in. I was lucky to see that since I never saw hsts much otherwise.
Sir Tricky Dickies Virgin East Coast thankfully didn't last long either.Of course it's always the Department of Transports fault nowt to do with the private operators who bid for these franchises presumably knowing full well what they are getting into.
By the time of my second visit to The UK in May 2010 NXEC had already become East Coast and all HST's had the branding applied but The 225's still had their old GNER colours with the white lining but with East Coast branding on the side. On a side note only one Class 91 received the NXEC grey and white. But i do hear you on your opinion on NXEC given they already lost Central Trains, Midland Mainline, and National Express East Anglia all by 2012.
National express got a bit cocky after the MML success. They also took over rail services in Australia, many managers took the chance to move out there. I don't think they were overly successful in Australia either, perhaps an Aussie knows more what happened to those services?
I do. They failed in Melbourne, where they ran half of our Metropolitan train, Metropolitan tram, and regional passenger rail systems. They handed back the keys to the networks after having run them for less than two years.
Really enjoying your videos. Very interesting. For me NXEC are the very epitome of why the private rail industry is so bad. There are certain things that are always better run in nationalised industry and rail is one of them.
The franchise system used in the UK is deeply flawed as it always puts profitability ahead of public service on our railways. The contracts were often written in a way that allowed the companies to load all of the financial risk towards the end of the contracted period and bail out early with little penalty. It might be worth some analysis of those periods on the ECML between the failed franchises, when the DfT was running the ECML. I believe these times were actually very lucrative for the treasury as any profits were pouring into there rather than lining shareholders pockets.
Under, half an hour, anyway, amazing video as always! But i dont see how every single operator privatised on the ECML can fail, its just silly, will VTEC come later?
I didn’t like National Express East Coast because they didn’t provide better rail services on the East Coast Main Line. At least they have tried to but it all became a disaster for them. A total disaster for National Express East Coast.

is ewan r me?
Seeing as you aren't Ewan R, probably not 😭
the fact that EVERY SINGLE ECML private franchise has failed tells you more about the DFT then anything else
When I get onto East Coast I will probably rant a lot about how the DfT absolutely screwed up that operator too!
You can imagine a film about it. The Curse of the ECML
This series is doing a great job of proving how poorly privatisation has gone.

It is both a failed franchise, and, because the exact thing happened three times in a row, a failure of franchising.
Ecml private franchises trying not to fail (it's impossible)
Even has a Bus Company National Express is failing. Losing service's

Vanmanyo so close to 5k!!!!!! great video btw!
Thank you!
@@Vanmanyo no problem! (i loved your British railway series you have)
Great video! Can't wait till you do an episode about the Franchise ONE, although definitely not part of NXEC.
I have already done all the Anglia franchises! Do check them out ua-cam.com/play/PLF06LywT25Lb6cVOt8Idl4jrfuzTS0Szx.html
He’s already done One Railway/National Express East Anglia “NXEA”.

I think only one loco received the livery, they never got round to the coaches! I wish I couldve gone on these older franchises! Thank you!
These vids are getting better with each new one you put out… well done 👍
Thank you! Glad you enjoy them !
As always a brilliant video. I'm looking forward to next week episode.
Thank you Andrew!

Vanmanyo, you said the intercity 225s never received the NXEC livery but there was a Class 91 in the livery towards the end of the video
Yep there was one locomotive not a full set!
@@Vanmanyo niceeee
Great video as always
Thanks again!
Happy Birthday Vanmanyo, Even though I’m drinking coffee, I hope you enjoy a couple pints with the lads tonight 🍺!!

Well not my birthday but I appreciate it 👍👍
@@Vanmanyo Well, Happy Birthday when it is! And I agree with another, these vids getting better and better. Pip Pip.
My birthday was in February but thank you!!!
good video, well done

another great video will you be doing one on Wessex trains that was run by nx
Potentially one day! Stay tuned!

Can you do silverlink in your failed franchise video

The fact I got it to twelve minutes is a miracle!! VTEC will be coming later so stay tuned :D
3:51, Door that is not correctly painted?
where did the class 43 go after national express go?
Stayed on the East Coast until replaced by the Azumas (although some went to EMR and were then retired)
Imagine Arriva east coast 💀💀💀💀💀
2:26 3 light HST 🤯🤯🤯
And Arriva West Coast lol

Will you be including the current LNER in this mini-series?
Still debating that but I don't see why not? Would you like to see it?
@@Vanmanyo I was only asking out of curiosity. Either way, I don't mind plus I like LNER even though I've never been on their trains.

it's not the shortest, it ran from London to Aberdeen. shortest franchise is... is Gatwick Express still a separate franchise?
Shortest in timespan!
please do one now greater anglia
Psst I've already done a whole series on the Anglian operators!
He's done loads of videos on Greater Anglia operators. About 6.
