- Growing on Twitch is difficult, and people give a lot of different advice so today I am going to give you tips to grow your first 25 average viewers on Twitch and to keep them coming back, otherwise known as a growing a community.
I used these tips to grow my average viewers from 0 to 25 in just 60 days on Twitch.
These tips work for people with 0 viewers and can be used to grow on Twitch, I'll be talking about a few growth strategies:
1. Doing something unique to grow on other platforms
2. What games are best for growth on Twitch
3. How to create a clickable thumbnail for your stream
4. How to encourage viewers to follow your stream, then come back next stream.
I promise I will show you exactly how I used these tips myself to grow on Twitch.

How To Choose a game for Twitch Growth
Personally, I think too many people rely on looking at the top games by viewers on Twitch to pick what they play, because I think there is a much better number.
Category Followers. These are the people who have hit follow on a category or game, and if someone has done that they are pretty much going to get recommended on their homepage that category. They’ll also get recommended other categories they like watching, but you can’t see that number.
An example, Stardew Valley a game I got a lot of growth in when I started, took me from 10 avg to 20 avg, has 798,000 followers, an incredibly active community who love it religiously, it still gets updates, has npc’s that are chatty so it's good for smaller streamers with less twitch chat to respond to, but it only averages at 500 - 800 total viewers and you only need 5 viewers to appear in the top 3 rows.
The style of this video is similar to Alpha Gaming and Gaming Careers in parts. A large influence on this series has come from content creators like Wild4games and Nutty.

Your camera is really nice! What camera do you use?
@@Browny1470 For videos, I use an A7s with a 70-200L series 2.8f lens, with filmmaker Rode Lapel mics. I have 2 key lights to light myself as well.
For stream, I use a webcam c922 or something that people often mistake for a dslr due to the lighting I use as well.
Hope that helps!
@@StreamScheme thank you so much I’ve been trying to upgrade

@Ryverse Just giving a tip fo be a Ninja in 30 seconds that's all!
This is the most real advice. I’ve been affiliate for 30 days and after following your tips, I have 233 followers, 52 subbies and 18-25 average viewers (peaks anywhere from 27-36 views). You are soooo helpful. I’ve gotten to know so many people and although it starts to get hard to remember everyone, it’s super fun to make connections. Thank you!❤️
You are smashing it! Keep up the hard work! :)

alpha gaming ego is huge, the same tips every video but "changed a little"
@@nouyama484 i dont really think he has a huge ego I just think he tries to be charismatic because more people stick around for that. Also those same tips are what worked for him so i think thats the point he is trying to make. not saying that your opinion is wrong or anything just sharing my thoughts.
Remember y'all make sure to ignore the viewer count, it'll make you nervous and production quality will go down, you'll get viewers eventually just keep trying! You can turn off you viewer count by clicking the number and it'll look like this: --, instead of having your viewer count

Hey Eljay, first off, thank you so much for the hard work and effort that you put into teaching us how to become better streamers, and creators as a whole. I took your advice on trying something different and have always been interested in a career within the gaming industry, and have had a passive interest in creative/narrative writing. So I took the experience that I had with writing through my academic studies and turned my Subnautica playthrough into a creative writing series on the blog that I started in tandem with it. I have shared it around to a few communities on Reddit that I thought would be interested and have received such positive feedback and awesome engagement! So thank you for giving me a bit of a shove to get going, because I have found something that I am incredibly passionate about doing and even if streaming doesn't lead anywhere, I feel that it has helped me grow in many new ways, both personally and professionally. Cheers man.
Hey thanks so much for the tips man! I always really appreciate and respect people like you looking out for the little fellas like us. I know what it's like to be really harsh on yourself so just remember to be a little easy on yourself from time to time. It's not healthy to constantly analyse things and could downright affect your streaming mood! So just make sure you check in with yourself bro and appreciate the hard efforts you made whether they had large or minor results :)
I've been watching your videos for a while to get tips while starting out, but I'm finally properly delving in now I'm focusing on my channel. For a little context, I started around 9 months ago as a hobby, reached affiliate a few months ago, now just over 150 followers and 15 average viewers. I love it more and more with each stream, so now's the time to improve for myself and my viewers!
I really enjoy how your videos focus on creative ways to engage and connect with viewers. Honestly, you couldn't pay me not to do it, and I definitely never think of it as a means to an end, but it really is the best thing about twitch to meet new friends, hang out with them (in my stream, theirs, or mutual friends') and get told something I did was really creative or really made them laugh. So I love the very first tip in the video, and I've been mulling it over all day. I'm not trying to reach my first few viewers, so it's probably not something I'd "need" to do, but it sounds like a blast. I'm trying to think of how to adapt something similar for what I do (variety to be fair - language study streams, games, art, etc). If I come up with a fun spin on it, I'll let you and the channel know :)
Definitely think I'll implement the tip to reiterate to my mods and regulars that it's super important to me to greet new people, ask my 'new chatter' question, answer any questions, etc. It's extremely important to me, and I've even seen some channels with channel values alongside channel rules in a panel, which I might do too.
Finally subscribed after watching so many of your videos. I love the last tip about being critical of your own streams. Especially if you look back at your current layout/about section/mic/etc. and try to see it as objectively as possible, you will see so many things to improve on that you haven't been able to see a few months ago!
Legitimately one of the best videos I watched before I started streaming. Just wanted to come back and say a massive thank you for all the tips and help that you provided in this video. I took the advice you presented and went from a 1 viewer Andy to having an awesome little community all because I took the time to actually follow these tips. Your tips on discoverability and community building were especially helpful and have become a staple of my channel. Thank you so much for the help and here's to the future for us all. :)
the fact that he liked and replied to every comment is showing that he acutally cares about building a comunity
It’s the core goal! :)
💜 YOU ARE FANTASTIC, ELJAY ! I'm following you since a few days and applying your tips. I can already see more growth and engagement in my streams!! thank you so much!! you have no idea how lifechanging you are!!
The gods have really looked down on me finding your channel. I’ve recently just started to stream and I’ve honestly had a blast but been very unaware of how to grow and how to treat the stream just starting. I’ve watched almost all your videos in about 2 days & I intend to watch them all again and again over the coming months. I thank you now for all the information you’ve provided to people like myself and I congratulate you and anyone who has been successful following your advice. I will continue to take the advice onboard and we will see where my Twitch Journey takes me !
A stream tips video that actually says something different. I love it.
Glad it helped!
Dude. I stumbled onto your content and I watched my first two videos and I appreciate how thorough you are in your descriptions of how you accomplished your goals. I have watched so many other youtube "how to grow your stream" videos that I have lost count and I can say with 100 percent honesty I think yours have been my favorite. I have been streaming for 17 months. I have learned so much but I am stuck in my growth of 2-6 avg viewers per stream and it's been great to see some of your content and think about what I am doing that could be improved upon. Thank you.
Really glad I can be helpful! Just doing my best!
Love it!
This is the first video in a long time that I watched till the end without skipping or saying get to the point already!
You shared your experience and how you grew then gave us the advice for our benefits.
This is really a great video and well put together, also what makes it stand out is that it is unique and based on a personal experience that we all can relate to.
In my opinion I think it is really generous of you to share the tips that helped you grow, yet they are not only tips! They are tips based on trial and error that will cut the work short for the people who wish to follow them.
Again really great work and thank you for the awesome content.
Thank you for the kind words! Just doing my best, I am glad the video helped!
hey bud, just wanted to let you know that your tips are great! Of all the youtubers giving twitch advice, yours is by far the most thoughtful, and doesn't waste my time beating around the bush like others! keep it up! i'll keep watching!
This is THE video every small streamer should be watching, imo.
You were genuinely helping and not just presenting tricks that work in the short term only.
If we look at all of the advice, they are very logical. Should almost be common sense, really. I guess they are not because of two things you mentioned: wanting to grow fast + not critically analyzing one's own work. Those hinder growth for many.
I'm glad I'm already doing some of the things you mentioned. The consistency is the major issue, but there's only so much I can do while having a job and a family with children.
Thank you for the video 😃
Thanks for the kind words! Just doing my best!
Can we just appreciate he loved and replied to everyone comment. That’s what a call a legend! Good advice. I am now inspired to be myself and go for it streaming!
Nothing special here, just trying to show my appreciation to people being supportive!
Love your stuff, one of the best videos I've seen about community building and getting discovered. Thank you
man, you're doing something that people usually charge, sharing knowledge that you see in a lot of online courses, really congratulations. you're helping me a lot to get a sense of how to be a streamer, i'm in my 5 daily viewers, but with hard work it will increase, thanks and again congratulations
Just started streaming a week ago and thank God this got recommend. A lot of useful tips. Definitely earned a sub 👍🏼
Thanks mate! I appreciate the kind words! Good luck and keep it up!
Just found your channel and watched every one of these videos! Keep up the great content!
Appreciate the kind words! Glad it helped!
I would argue there is a key difference between being critical and harsh on yourself vs. constructive with yourself. I find looking for ways to grow needs a positive force behind it in order for one to help foster confidence and maintain enjoyment. And that sort of thing will shine through in streams.
Thank you for these videos! They have a great pedagogical structure to them and you've got real skill in teaching concepts.
Eljay! TYSM for all the info you give us. It's always fun to goof off with you on Twitch!
Purely clicked on this because it felt like you knew what you were talking about from the title and you didn't disappoint. Nice!
Hey thanks for the kind words!
seriously one of the best videos on direct twitch growth. so underrated!!! subscribed
Hope it helped! Good luck! Thanks for the support!
This is the best tutorial video I’ve watched about this topic. It’s very obvious you put a lot of thought into this and it’s not all generic advice. I plan on utilizing some of these and seeing what happens! Thanks so much and good luck on your journey!
Loving the tips that I have seen so far from the videos that popped up. My phone knows that I have been streaming the last few days and started suggesting your channel. lol.
It's funny that you brought up the reddit idea for growing your stream. I originally was going to do a series of modded Skyrim runs and post the results on reddit like journal entries from the characters. I didn't have the means to do that before, but now that I am thinking about the idea again and having your advice accompany it, I may have to give it another shot. ;)
I love how you don't recommend gimmicky methods. You're very straightforward and realistic! Very helpful :)
Gimmicks don't work in the long run! You need solid velocity for growth on any platform or else you end up with 500 followers and 0 viewers! Hope I can continue to help!
Good luck to everyone on their journey!
Hey and to you as well!
Thank you. I usually never watch "tutorial" videos this long but you got straight to the point, were super genuine, and provided a lot of value.
I am really glad, Sabrina! Good luck!
Naming your streams after puns is such a good tip! I personally do this with most of my streams and every time I do, someone comes in chat and asks me about it. It helps encourage chat and bring new people in.
It's a solid play when starting out!
Love the content man! Relatively new to streaming so I very much appreciate the tips!
Just hope the videos help! Thanks for the kind words!
Hey Eljayem, just wanna let you know :)
Your videos actually did help me create better streams and I just started yesterday [Malaysia time GMT +8:00] at 12:30PM.
I followed what you said, schedule my stream, so I schedule it for weekends.
At first, I don't have any viewers since I'm streaming music but I try streaming again today with better audio and engagement with myself
It went well because I followed the tips you told in other videos. The only tips to it were engaging with the 1 and only viewer that then brings me another one that comes from the discovery page. And slowly it grew up to 4! This might be a small number for big streamers but it is a good start for me already. Will try to prevent dropped frames problem in my next stream since I already know what happened.
Thank you so much! My VOD will show you what happened during the stream, there's a massive frozen frame when I reconnect back to the stream. Didn't expect this to happen... My solution to it was moving my computer to a place with a better connection, and that worked. I know this is not Streamlabs fault but my connection. So in my next week's live stream, I will go back to the same place :)
Disclaimer: The 4 viewers only come after I troubleshoot everything that went wrong during the stream.
Thank you very much Eljay! Loved your videos already! Been watching and researching before I start my stream but clearly not enough because I have to troubleshoot while I go live. Hope to see more Twitch streaming tips!
These guides and tips have helped me out immensely with the quality of my stream and in turn my confidence with streaming keep up the great content 🙌🏼🙌🏼
Finding communities and thinking about how to deliver them content that they want is such amazing advice
I streamed a few days ago on twitch for the first time ever. Something I always wanted to do just to pass time if I was bored and meet some people that just wanna chat while I play a game. In 3 hrs of streaming I had 3 viewers (not at once, just total). I was honestly happy that people even found me and watched for even just a few minutes. I like this video. Will watch more and apply some tips I find useful.
Btw thanks for the time stamps. I will be coming back to this video specifically and check out certain parts of it. While you were talking I already had a couple ideas pop up I wanna try.
Good luck! Glad to hear the video helped!
I've never thought about streaming, but after i saw this this made me think of all the possibilities i could do. Just seeing these types of videos really motivate me. What you did was GENIUS and the fact that you thought of this, is incredible. I want to wish you luck, and thank you for a good mindset!
I really appreciate the kind words! Just doing my best! Thanks again for the kind words!
These tips were incredibly helpful and honest, mate. Great advice. Thank you so much for doing it.
Man, this really helped. I am trying to get started with streaming and it has been pretty hard. Thank you so much. Also, I really admire how you reply to almost everyone here.
Glad I could help! If someone is willing to comment, I do my best to reply to them! If I've missed one it means I'm either asleep or UA-cam didn't tell me about their comment!
Dude… this is incredible. I feel this this revitalized so much of the flame in me. I got huge growth when I started but have been stagnant for many, many months. But this gives me so many new ideas for streams, and so many new ways to bring great, fresh content to my current fan base and community.
I can’t wait to make this happen. Streaming is what I’m most passionate about and I know I can make it work. See you at the top! 🙏
How’s it going
Hey man just wanted to say thank you. I’m a very small streamer and i recently started and i didn’t see much growth but then i used your technique of going to the small but very followed categories and it made wonders in just the first 2 days and now i rarely ever have 0 viewers
Glad I could help! Keep up the hard work!
This is a video I've been needing for a while. Straight to the point and extremely helpful and honest too. Really loved the video and thank you.
i went onto your twitch channel and watched the beginning of a few of your old streams and i can really recognise all of the things you do and techniques you use. i wouldn't be able to if i hadn't watched the video but i can tell it really works. you give great advice and make great videos man, mad respect
Thanks Charlie! I really appreciate it! Every piece of advice I give comes from practice, and experience to see what works with my stream! Good luck mate!
Just started streaming 6 days ago and already have started getting above 2 average viewers in my last couple streams. I’ve been watching your videos and they have helped so much. Thank you!
Nice work! Just glad I could help!
This channel is a hidden gem. Helped me a lot, too, and still does. I did my first stream last week and a few since then and had a handful of people not only watching but actually staying for the whole thing. It's a weird feeling but really exciting.
WHAT you’ve replied to literally every one’s comment what a legend you just got a new sub keep up the good work 👍🏼
Every single one yeah hahaha It's rude not to right? It's not like the channel is giant, or we are getting 100k views, just doing what I can
This guy speaks to me on sooooooo many levels!! I was only this morning feeling so down in the dumps cos I couldn't figure out what to do with my YT channel from certain other channels saying it was the way to build viewers and was instantly put to ease after watching this! I know I will be able to do YT later but feel I need to build myself on twitch first to find out what I am doing with it and these tips help so much! Thank you!
This is a great video! I’m a baby streamer myself, and it’s daunting to throw yourself into an oversaturated platform. The Stardew Valley theory is interesting! I had the same effect playing Zelda, though - went from 3 average viewers to 11 in a week and a half. There are great tips in your video that I will definitely put to practice, I found your idea of 2D vs 3D branding very interesting because it’s something I noticed in other channels, but couldn’t exactly put into words. Will be subscribing to your channel.
Its crazy how many videos I've seen say to start up a youtube on the side..Thank god you cleared that up within five minutes
The same for me when it starts, and I understand why. It is a great way to build while you're offline but the time and effort required isn't truly explained when people give that advice! It's important to play to your own strengths when building on other platforms.
Man, I rarely stop on YT to watch content but your content is golden. Love it and it is helping me drastically improve the way I do my streams. Thank you very much for sharing your tips and case studies and please do keep them coming as they are very useful and I really like your style.
I appreciate that! Sounds like you're working hard as well! :) Keep it up!
At 540 in the video you sold me on exactly when i knew but was so happy to hear, dont push ppl to watch/drop your twitch link everywhere, entice their interest in the game and off handed show ur stream. Im glad i had this part down already, love the content and help sodaL
Thank you so much you’ve literally helped me already and I haven’t even streamed since watching this video
Glad I could help!
Very helpful tips I appreciate this video thank you! Luckily I had a small group of friends on twitter who also stream before I started, so it has made the first streams so much better, but I am looking forward to growing some more and I'm happy with what I am creating right now :)

Honestly I started streaming at the start of December and I watched every piece of content i could on the matter. You have been super helpful to me and helping me go in the right direction. The holidays kinda killed what momentum I had going as my regular viewers stoped coming by because they went on holiday and I'm trying to stay positive with that and hoping they come back. But for how I got my first few I have to thank reddit and some creative writing on my part. I started posting to other things than just gaming as well, like I went over to the dark tower subreddit because I wanted to do a playthrough of fallout with one of the main guys from the book and the response was outstanding. Now I got a few follows but no extra viewers from the post, and really I was fine with that because when I was playing I had the mindset of going back to this post and updating it on everything that happened in game. Getting into a mind set of making content with every action really helped me out and gave me and what I was doing buzz, even though it was on another site. So the advice I could give is make what you are doing meaningful to you and even if you are streaming to no one make it for someone.
Thanks for sharing all this! Glad to hear you're keeping on even with the holiday stumble!
What’s your twitch? I follow back. twitch.tv/domkzzle1
As I own a UA-cam Channel only all these tips still helped me either way and I am grateful and may god bless you and your grind ❤️ stay safe everyone and once again thank you for this well-done video
Glad it helped! I think growing past 25 you do need more diversified channels, having a UA-cam channel or some other external platform really will help when you want to push past 25 average viewers so it will help in the long run!

Killing it man!
Ok, I watched gazmillion videos regarding "Twitching" "YouTubing" "Growth", and I just needed one video from a person saying - hey its hard, but this is how *I* did it.
Its not a rule for everyone but this is excellent starting point especially for saturated gaming market.

Hope you'll get thousands of viewers, I admire your drive.
Next stop, I'm going to do some introspection.
Hey thanks man! I appreciate the kind words, just doing my best! I hope the video helped, I have some more coming soon on similar growing topics! Thanks again!
I've never heard someone call streaming on Twitch, Twitching.
Top notch video mate, it was simple and straight to the point. I felt like I hit a wall and was doing something wrong and I feel like the tips you've given will definitely help me. Thanks for sharing your experience with the community and keep up the good work!
Hope it helps! Thanks for the kind words.
Really glad I stumbled on your channel. This video was something I was needing but wasn’t looking for if that makes sense. You earned yourself a new sub, love the quality of this video just know it isn’t going unnoticed 😉
Appreciate the kind words! Thanks so much for the support, I just hope the videos help :)
I don´t know what happened....but I just learned something! Excellent vid!
Glad you enjoyed it! Hoped it helped!
This video is very realistic and most of the tips have helped me a lot I’ve been streaming for around two weeks now and I got affiliated last week with an average of 7 viewers on among us I’m trying to push further I’ve recently been streaming with other streamers and we host each other regularly which brings each other a lot of viewers but I feel like I’m not progressing at a fast enough rate which is bringing down my confidence and motivation so idk how long I can keep this up without a more active community rn
You've got 7 average viewers after 2 weeks? That is fairly solid man, that is the same as me when I started, and a lot higher than most people after 2 weeks! Now you just need to keep them as a community and focus on consistency.
Try not to rush, Twitch growth is fickle and it comes and goes as it pleases. Look for places you can improve that you can control and work on those while nurturing your current viewers into a community. Good work! Keep it up!
Stream Scheme thanks I’ll make sure to stay consistent
What really helped me was imagining viewers in a room.
Like, 7 people in your bedroom being like “That’s cool!” That’s so many!
I just have to say thank you so much! You’re advice has been extremely helpful.
This video has been recommended to me forever and I avoided it for some reason. You've got a good, relaxed vibe and great advice. Appreciate hearing sound advice that isn't mimicking what so many other channels are pushing.
Thanks for the kind words! I think people naturally avoid it because they feel it’s going to be the same 5 tips as everywhere else which is fair hahahah! Hope it helped though and good luck! I appreciate the comment a lot!
@@StreamScheme It sure did! Glad to have found you. Great engagement and good content I'll be sticking around :)
ly bro! just started yt a month ago now gonna stream on twitch
Good luck! Hope the video helps you starting out! Thanks for the kind words!
I've watched so many of these videos with identical info and this is legit the first one i actually buy into, good work my dude.
Hey I appreciate the kind words, I just hope the video helped you!
@@StreamScheme mate just the first tip helped me not go insane from thinking I was watching the exact same video on a different channel for the 50th time. It's great to actually hear you talk about twitch rather than other platforms.
Hahaha I’m just glad it helped, let me know if you want me to cover anything else!
Your videos are always so helpful. Thanks for the advices!
Glad you like them! Thank you!
Been streaming for a month and these videos has helped me rocket passed my goals I set for myself this month.
I would deffo grab a coffee but it's 2:00am my dude. Need the sleep lol keep up the good work tho 🤙
Hahahaha Fair man, it's only 11:35am for me! And I think I filmed this at 9am! Thanks for the encouragement! Same to you!
@@StreamScheme Thank you dude
Seeing stardew without seeing TheHaboo live suprised me XD the speed running community is also super committed despite being tiny.

"I know how to count... So I counted..... And, it took... A really, long time...." That line got my 👍
It really did hahahha
Have been really passionate about starting a stream, ans this video might be the push I needed to start up! Amazing content dude
Glad I could help!
Love the content man, cheers for the hard work!
Glad you enjoy it! I just hope the videos help!
Wish there were more hours in the day. For me to do this right, I'd need to give up something otherwise lose sleep and risk my health... which sucks...
I feel that, it’s taken a lot to balance everything and slowly shift focus. Not there yet but eventually, it sadly takes huge investment of time and energy.
i feel you man, i am working my ass off 9-12 hours in 2 different shifts and my work is really hard for the body, when i come home i am just dead, its really hard to do all this stuff after work, but we should just keep doing it, its worth it.
I've been streaming for 3 years now, to get big you need your friends to watch you. Just sitting there with 1 constant viewer won't let you grow at all
It certainly helps to have a few to kickstart the stream!
My friends say hi then leave, idk y?
My friends don't know what Twitch is 😅
I don't have friends
Love your videos helped me so much keep killing it I got mad love for you
thank you so much for this video!!! it was one of the most genuine tip videos ive seen here. your tone of voice was kind and to the point and it really made it all click in my head for me! i cannot emphasize enough that i hope every streamer sees this video.
Hey that’s really kind of you to say! Seriously, thank you so much!
The hardest thing a small UA-camr can feel is when you wake up in the morning and nothing has changed on your channel 😢💔
Check out my latest video, it might be a bit of help if you’re struggling to grow. It’s all about how I create content to find an audience and rapidly grow.
Good luck!
Don't give up! I know the feeling all to well. But It makes me reflect on myself and it challenge me to be more creative. Good luck champ
Yes
Or hitting 200 followers and setting up a special stream to celebrate hitting 200 where one person leaves overnight before the start of the stream making your count 199 lol
"you probably dont really like milk very much"
the entire community : "._."
Hahahaha
Thank you for the tipsss! Best video i've watched :)
Thanks mate! Appreciate the kind words! Hope the video helped!
Thanks for the great ideas! This is so much different from most of what I've seen, and it's nice to know that there are alternate approaches that may work.
Glad it was helpful! Just doing my best!
ty sm for these tips i've been streaming fior like 4 days and i advrage about 2 veiwers but im starting to put out some better content!!

The most viewers I've had is 23 and I only started streaming around 2 months ago.

That's great though, Patch, what is your average viewers? Keep it up!
@@StreamScheme I started streaming 3 days ago and have an average of 2.2 viewers and Im watching this video right now
It's so exciting starting out! Hope the video helps!
Stream Scheme , My average viewers tend to differ quite a lot depending on the day.. I stream in a saturated catagory but doing well.
I've searched high and low for all types of streaming help videos. Mainly, I have been researching how to be better. These videos you make have firmly placed me in the Stream Scheme School, and they are always very informative, thoughtful, and engaging.
Seriously, thank you!
Glad I could help! :)
i got to 4 average viewers and then had some exams and stopped for two weeks and i’ve gone back to zero … time to binge watch this entire channel for the second time you get me
