Thank you so much. This helped relieve my anxiety. I now think I have more an impingement/tendonitis versus rotator cuff tear. So still healing work to do, but less scary especially about getting care during covid times.
I just love that yall both care enough about your practice to nerd out about other pediatric (or whatever kind of) doctors... that alone makes me wish I was in range enough to make a heckin visit to you... But the fact that y’all take it further to help folks like me just boosts my faith in the western medicine world... I can’t thank you enough for sharing your knowledge as you do. 🙏💛🙏

Had right shoulder impingement pain for about one year. Just recently I was crossing my right arm around my chest and pulling it with my left arm. Basically a stretch of shoulder. While doing the stretch, I heard 2 pops in my right shoulder. Since then the impingement pain is gone.
I will try that one more, done it a few times, mainly hanging from a pull up bar, seems to feel a bit better, but I think I have swelling in the right should, don’t know wether to make sure the inflammations gone down or carry on doing this,I’ve have a bad should since February 2021,will try that stretch more thank u
@@garynewis8293 here is another exercise. Put sore arm behind back near waist. Take other arm behind back and grab the hand of sore arm and pull. You can experiment with changing the angle of your sore arm hand while pulling.
Absolute garbage advice here, search physio tutors impingement mythbusting, then watch there videos for early, intermediate, and Late stage rehab for the shoulder, there’s no silly stretches which do jack all, you can’t go wrong getting strong
This video was especially informative and relevant to me. I have had decreasing mobility in my shoulder because of the pain. But I thought it just me getting older. I took all your tests and I may have done them wrong because the test for impingement was super positive (very painful) but also one of the rotator cuff test also was painful. Either way, I am researching if there is treatment for either and setting the appointment. Thank you Doc's
You guys really educate me. This one was perfect. Now I can see how well my impingement is healing. It pinches the nerve that runs down my arm to my index finger and thumb. I hurt my shoulder at work and the company had me go to the urgent care (after about 5 weeks of this hurting). There the PA diagnosed me with carpal tunnel. Worker's comp then denied my claim as they believed that I hadn't been on my job long enough to have carpal tunnel (2 years). Ugh. So, I'm treating myself.
This is good info. I can do ALL of these (strong and flexible) so I do not think anything is torn but I have pain in front of my shoulder. I assume impingement from improper form or too much weight on lat pull down machine. I bought some of your bands so I can strengthen the shoulder when some of the pain subsides.
My pain is in the shoulder of the arm when trying to reach the other shoulder. I don’t see much for that. There’s also some “clicking” when rotating etc.
Dear Bob and Brad thanks for your helpful videos. I have right rotator cuff inflammation and I feel pain constantly in front of my shoulder and chest and while I am moving my arm. I can do all the test in this video. What should I do to decrease my pain. Thanks again, you are the best.
Wondering if you respond to these. My shoulder only hurts when putting a lot of load on my shoulder either weight wise or repetition. So push-ups will make my shoulder flare after a couple but it only pops and cracks and really the impingement tests don’t hurt. Like I have complete mobility
I kinda have basic training starting December 7 so I kinda need to be able to do a push-up haha. If you have any diagnose and how to begin to fix that would be great
Great video and tips. Can you (or anyone) please help me understand what the issue might be if I feel something in my shoulder area when: "My hands are together (like praying) slightly above eye level. Then I open my elbows outward like wings. Similarly, I slightly feel something if driving, left hand at 12 noon on the steering wheel." What can I do to make it better. It's been several weeks. I haven't used ice yet- pain is only ~2 out of 10 and only in certain positions...but it's keeping me from lifting. I think this issue either came from starting to do pull-ups or triceps pushdowns. It's ironic that you work out to try to get healthy and you end up getting hurt. Thank you!
I only have an aching pain in my shoulder. I know something is wrong because it cracks a lot with certain movements unlike my other shoulder. And I know I injured it on a fall 3 years ago
Had a complete shoulder replacement 4 months ago due to arthritis. Also had the symptoms of impingement. The pain and looseness of the joint has been repaired but the impingement pain persists. The doctor insists it will go away over time. Any thoughts?
My initial injury was 9 months ago and I couldn’t even let my arm down by my side. Walked around with a sling for a few weeks. Slowly became not painful but to this day certain moves are painful, and I feel some crunching in there 😖 I start seeing a physical therapist soon. Is it possible I can NOT need surgery?

I had arthroscopic surgery with debridement on my right shoulder August 2020. I’m 33 years old and if I try the belly press my elbow bends inward. The lift off test I can hardly get my arm to my back and it won’t lift off. The one where I put the right hand on my left shoulder I can’t lift my hand more than a inch or two if at all possible. All this has severe pain as well as the bad pain in the day and worse at night can’t sleep without waking up about 20 or more times to adjust. Is my Subscapularis damaged?
Bob and brad if i put my shoulder in a position like im doing an upright row i get pain and stiffness (abduction and internal rotation) in the front/side of shoulder. What do u think this could be?
I dunno none of these really do anything but the mobility in my right shoulder is so much worse than the left. If I try to reach behind my back my right can go to around the middle of my back and then it feels like it can't go further and it starts to hurt, while my left can go all the way between my two shoulder blades and I can even have someone gently pushing it up even further, so mobility on my left shoulder is fantastic, I just don't know how to fix my right. I've tried everything, I've completely cut every overhead exercise, I try to gently stretch with a stick behind my back like you showed in another video. I've tried to strengthen too but it won't go away. It happened when I fell on my side directly on my shoulder with my arm in a locked position, I remember for 2 days after my arm felt like it was extremely unstable in the joint and almost popping in and out of the joint.
Hi. I’ve watched your videos but, they haven’t really covered my problem. I can use my shoulder in most movements. But arm at side, elbow bent at 90 degrees, I can’t raise elbow away from body without a lot of pain. Any ideas?

The thing is, you didn't really say where we might feel pain for all these different tests. My pain is my entire upper arm. Bi and tri-ceps. No where else. On the pain arc test, it's hurts through 100% of the range. It hurts when I'm sitting, it hurts when I try to stand. It hurts as I type this. It hurt more when I try to relax the arm in some positions, and hurts more in other positions when trying to use the arm. It basically hurts everywhere, in all movements. But not up in my shoulder. A tiny bit on the ribs but nothing compared to the pain in the arm. I woke up one morning with this. 10/10 pain scale. I tripped over a rug and the pain brought me to my knees screaming and crying. Do I go to the ER or just find a physical therapy center?

I’m tired of not getting treatment and feeling like I want to die because the pain dose not go away lights and noise even walking pulls my head pain when I move to walk why will no dr understand why I’m like this it’s been ten years now another dr said I have an impingement and rotary cuff. How will whatever being pressed release it’s always cracking and swollen now I’m in my mid 3o still not healed going to the emergency room on and off why dose it give u migraines? And the knot is always there getting hard when I’m annoyed giving me more pain.
My shoulder pain is anything overhand or overhead and right in the front middle of the shoulder. It hurts to reach across my body Range of motion is lost. What could that be?
Work on stabilizing the scapula (rhomboid, mid/lower traps) to put the scapula and shoulder in more optimal position. Mobilizations to restore the ROM limitation is important and you can use low grade mobs for pain. Strengthening the rotator cuff is important so use bands and doing shoulder abd/ER/IR strengthening in a pain free range so start isometric then move to isokinetic. Does this help?
The bear hug test is the one that is bothering me...which muscle is most affected with this test and are there any other tests to do similar to it to confirm that that's the issue? (The rests between minute 5 and 7 also bother me and I'm a volleyball player, if that helps)
I did all the tests with the muscles i could complete them yet i still have pain i have sufficient strenght and im quite young not sure what the problem is :(
same here man. Im 24, started having shoulder pain in my right shoulder then my left gradually started the same issues. Both hurt alot all the time, but never hurt too bad during these tests. Like Idk what to do about this problem i have, its definitely made me suffer
Can someone explain the cracking and popping sounds in my shoulder . Every time I move my arm, it sounds like I'm ripping off a Barbie doll arm. I got a shot in the shoulder, but I still have cracking.
