  • Disclaimer again: I still had the settings on my GoPro set to Horizon Levelling. That's why it looks crooked on the portages. On my next video I have the settings back to the way they were before so for this video please try to excuse it.
I return to Sunbeam Lake for an overnight solo canoe trip. This route is perfect for the novice canoe tripper that wants to experience some portaging and visit some small beautiful lakes. Willow Lake is one of my favourite lakes in Algonquin Park.
I would recommend this to be a three night canoe trip if it is one of your first trips out. And I also recommend staying on Lost Joe Lake or Burnt Island Lake for your first night. Sunbeam Lake for your second night, and Tom Thomson for your third.
Most of the sites on Tom Thomson are very nice even though it is a busy lake. If you want a bit of solitude you can also stay on Bartlett Lake.
As for portaging, most of the portages are pretty easy. Although, the portage from Burnt Island Lake to Jay Lake does have a bit of a climb in the middle. The other issue portage is the one from Willow Lake to the pond. The pond dried up many years ago so you will probably have to portage around the pond to the next portage that takes you to Bartlett Lake.
On another note, I was able to skip the portage from Aster Pond to Willow Lake by pulling over three beaver dams.
