@@orionxtc1119lol well isn't that convenient. Bc every time something goes right in people's lives, they SHOULD "praise/thank God" and feel as though they've been " blessed" BY HIM in that moment. BUT, the very moment something goes remotely wrong or negative in a human's life, God suddenly has nothing to do with it, right? All of a sudden it's "Free Will this, and Free Will that." You can't have it one way and not the other. If we take credit and reap the benefits for whats good in our lives, we're in turn called "ungrateful" and "selfish" for not giving God credit or recognition. But on the flip side when things go badly, humanity is expected to take ALL the credit and we're to STRICTLY leave God out of it. It's hypocritical and illogical, at best. I feel sorry for the people who buy into that warped, self loathing mentality. No God of mine would ever want that.
My only child was killed in 2020. That was horrific enough, but at least I know where my son is, as I look at his urn here in my living room. I can't imagine the agony of never having answers to the absence of a child. My heart breaks for Lee's parents!

I wasn't able to have children, but this would be the worst possible thing that could have happened to me if I did. Going year after year not knowing, just worrying and wondering, must be emotionally taxing and draining beyond belief. 💔
My Son NEVER left my sight until he was grown up and had the ability to defend himself and others. Street smarts, ability to sense and see things coming is something I installed into him from day one. You can only keep them safe for so long. so you Best give them the tools to remain safe. I made sure that my son Knew its Them or you and make sure You come home.Alive. Better to be Judged by a jury of his peers than wind up Dead. Hes a grown man now and grew up Safe.
Literally haunting. I wish that there had been more info about the venue and the locality. I could help to allay the fears of some grieving parents of The Missing, as well as giving opportunities to solve other mysteries.
What a beautiful boy. His parents have been through living hell. Their anguish will likely never end. It’s maddening.

So does mine too. As a forever bereaved mum for 22 years, and have my sons ashes with me at all times. But not knowing for 30 years is so unsettling, unfathomed for any parent. 💔😇😢

I’m from Cheam, and my sister went to Cheam High School and knew Lee’s sister, so I’ve always tried to keep track on this case, and hope one day they get some answers. I went to Nonsuch High School and walked home past St Dunstan’s church every day, and had no idea about this unofficial youth club.
I used to have an after school paper round in Cheam Village, and there was sometimes a man in a car in the late 1980s who used to offer me a lift home, but as it was only a 10 minute walk home and he gave me the creeps I always declined. So I tried to avoid him, but he was often hanging around, as he lived on the main road near Cheam…it made me wonder if he was just being kind or he had other ideas.
Many years later I heard how a motorbike shop in Cheam was closed down, as the owner got sent to prison for doing stuff to children…I thought my village was a lovely middle class suburb, but it certainly has a darker side.
It's so sad this boy vanished without a trace. His parents were so caring and loving; hopefully someone who knows something definitive will come forward someday so these parents can bury their child and have some closure as they are getting on in years and deserve peace.

@@daniellediy at the time I just told my mum, as I was a young teenager. It was only years later when I heard on the news about Lee’s disappearance being connected to the club at the church, that I wondered if the man in the car who used to offer me lifts home, was connected to the creepy gravedigger who ran the club. I did contact the police, but as it was years later, I could only give vague descriptions, although I was able to tell them roughly where he lived. I never heard anything back from them.
You should mention that man's name to the police, that is the creepy man who used to offer you lifts. He could very well be the culprit. It could even be the case that his apartment/house at the time is where the body is found.
Poor poor mum, hate the fact that her being involved and protective is being made into a negative. Plenty of parents are like that they dont run away and start a new life as a child. Thats clearly not what happened and its a horrible narrative.

Oh this wonderful mum, she is constantly beating herself up, my heart still breaks for them, absolutely horrendous to live all your life without any knowledge of what happened to their son.
I was attacked ages 11 by a stranger and it affected the way I was with my children and now my own grandchildren!

I have friends who worked as teachers assistant so they'd be at the school with their kids.
Also worked great to not need babysitting, their kids rode to school and home with the parents and school breaks, they were together

For those interested in further information about Lee's case, the famous investigator Mark Williams Thomas did an excellent investigation which he put into a podcast "The Detective - the murder of Lee Boxell". Amongst other things, another local man came forward to say he'd been sexually abused as a teen by yet another man who worked at a local bike shop in Sutton in the 80s, at one point leaving him in fear of his life. William Lambert is the main suspect in Lee's murder. His children also spoke out, saying that they believed their dad had killed Lee - describing him as a highly violent psychopath. Lee's case was the final one of three involving teenage boys in the 80s in and around the Croydon area. In 1985, 15 year old Reece Collins was found hanging from a tree in a park in Norwood. In 1986, 16 year old Kevin Hicks went to the corner shop and never returned. Police believe his trip was an excuse to meet someone and he was murdered. Then there was Lee's case. All three cases are still unsolved. We now know that the Croydon area had very serious problems back then. Not only was it absolutely crawling with paedophiles, it also had serious problems with organised crime and police corruption. This was reflected in the fact that the main suspect in Lee's murder, the paedophile William Lambert, was known to be abusing kids with a former police officer who was also involved with Lambert in theft and handling stolen scrap metal. Britain's nost investigated unsolved case, the notorious 1987 Daniel Morgan murder, revolved around Croydon where he lived and worked. Daniel Morgan was found in a pub car park with an axe in his head. It's believed he was going to blow the whistle on rampant police corruption and links to drug dealing. With regard to paedophiles, the notorious sidney cooke gang had a presence in Croydon, as did other notorious paedophiles like warren spinx. But they were just the tip of the iceberg. As the documentary says, numerous known paedophiles lived close to Lee. Croydon had been the home of the notorious Shirley Hills childrens home in which a paedophile ring had been abusing kids since the 1950s. The parks were also notorious for attracting "dirty old men" and for antisocial behaviour.

@@Trish-ql9kzdo you have any memories from that time? One of my friends lived in Thornton Heath during that period and he had some stories. He mentioned how the local parks were terrible - gangs of dirty men bothering kids, and the park keeper having to chase them out. He said an older man was very inappropriate with him in a swimming pool in Croydon when he was 12, and when he was 15 he had a job in a shoe shop in Croydon town centre and some man came in, basically stalking him, and asked him if he wanted to go away with him for the weekend. He took him to a pub and took some photos of him (I'm guessing probably to shop him to other offenders). My friend didn't go with him,which is probably a very lucky escape. My friend was a very "pretty" young lad, so he must have appealed to a certain type.

Where is the line between protective and overprotective when it comes to your children. My mum was overprotective (I thought) but I knew she loved me and I loved her. Dad was more like the dad in this video. The mum in this video was a lovely caring mum in my opinion x

That detective is a disgrace judging the boy's mother describing her as emotional 😠 and over protective!! How is that relevant, of course she was emotional her son was missing and never found 😢 More like the detective was rubbish at his job and focused on the wrong area and the timings were wrong. This poor lad was most likely abducted.

@@mightymouse1005 that's not true. One might not want to have anything to do with ones parents, even after being grown up and independent. There are a lot of people who cut ties with their families. Not saying that's what happened here, but it is something that happens.
I was recently called a helicopter parent, but I don't take the criticism seriously as at least I know where my teen is and what he is doing. Lee's parents are not to blame.
I've been accused of the same, but I had an appalling childhood of abandonment and abuse. Would I do everything in my power to prevent my kids feeling an ounce of that misery? Hell to the yes! I must have done something right, I think to myself as I look across at my 16 and 19 year olds, sitting together on the sofa with their needlework projects on a Saturday night!

Following your teenage son by getting a job where he is at school is not normal. Nevertheless, I do not think that her overprotectiveness was anything whatsoever to do with Lee's disappearance.
That's just awful i think the most likely scenario is that he encountered someone at the shed a paedophile or criminal that has taken his life.

I can remember the Appeals at the time and Lee was shown with a man (CCTV shot). No mention of this in the documentary and I don't recall the Police saying they no longer needed to trace this man...
What wonderful, loving parents, he was a beautiful boy, so heartbreaking to never have found his body.

In the late fifties, mid sixties we were told not to talk to strangers..children forget. These beings are very clever...we came across men looking for dogs. "What athletics can you do" of course we wore dresses then. Men exposing themselves. This in the countryside in the middle of the day with people around. keep an eye on your children..get them a taxi..take them in your car, give them a mobile, which can be tracked if left on, give them an alarm.
Tragic case. He was a fan of T'Pau who were huge at the time. Carol Decker supported the family by appealing for information.

I was always irritated by my parents' controlling manner, but today I understand why. We were not ever allowed out the house on our own: either one of the parents accompanied us, or my brothers and I had to go together and take responsibility for each others' safety. They always knew exactly where we were going and with whom. There had to be grown-up supervision by people my parents knew at our destination, and we had to check in upon arrival. The time we had to be back at home was precise and non-negotiable and we had to let them know when we were leaving. But most of the time they insisted on dropping us off and picking us up again, and to look the supervision on the other side in the eye. Sleeping over was allowed on rare occasions and only at the home of friends whose parents were well known to mine. No way in hell was any of us ever going to see the inside of 'The Shed', they simply didn't leave any room for it. They encouraged us to bring our friends home, as many as we wanted as often as we desired, and they did their best to ensure that it was fun for all to be at our house. Those were the rules until we became of age.
Thats how parents should be. Lucky you and lucky me. Unfortunately these days things have changed.
Those are my rules to my kids can hate me for it if they want but as even you’ve grown to realise it really is for the best and no one on this earth is going to protect you better than good parents
As for sleepovers my kids aren’t going nowhere aside from my mums house other kids can come here that’s fine but mine are staying here where I Know they’re safe
I’ve worked in child protective services and fully understand that most abuse happens at home or by someone known to the family like close friends, children’s friends parents etc and when you’ve worked within it you see just how disgusting this world is
My rules will feel extra harsh in this day and age but aslong as they’re under my roof that will be the rules I’ll do every single thing within my power to keep them from any harm I just hope they grow to realise it’s all out of the purest strongest love there is
My mum is the same and she’s successfully raised 3 children to adulthood completely unharmed so our way is definitely worth the hate we get/will get from our children

It states says in the documentary that Lee did find his mom embarrassing and controlling. She admits it herself. She followed him to the gates at Senior school. How many mothers do that?
Perhaps he ran away or was just hanging around enjoying some freedom. Perhaps he had an accident or he did meet someone sinister. It's still very sad for his family not knowing.

Apart from his mums worrying they seemed to have a lovely relationship most parents don’t have any control over their kids I know which I prefer. Incredibly sad I think he’s been murdered and I don’t think these poor parents will ever get any answers. 😢
What is so sad to me is the fact when she was looking for her son, she was still looking for a 15-year-old. When you don't get to see them age, they are forever the age they disappeared, died, or whatever sad occasion happened. The lack of answers, the not knowing, I think that's almost as bad as the actual disappearance of the person.

Shameful that the lead Detective is laying blame on the mother. Although Cheam is a quiet residential area it is still in our Capital city. He would have been just a tube or bus ride away from all manner of risk and danger. I feel the Detective was bordering on misogyny. Mother is over protective and a worrier Father a reflective individual. I do wonder if these stereotyping tactics hampered the initial investigation. So sad that Lee's song and the missing persons choir could not be heard. Having stayed with this documentary throughout to be denied the conclusion is most dissapointing.

What a masangerist view, I suspect there were enough (if not the majority) of the people working behind the camera were female. I suspect that was put in to show how much he was loved and not a chav with an asbo, which he wasn't.

@@joanodom2104 luckily, the police weren't investigating on feelings, they were investigating facts. All things are considered in these sort of crimes and if you understood the male of the species you'll know a young man doesn't want overbearing parents and wants to make his own way. That is one possibility of his disappearance that was looked into. But to ignore the worrier of a father and to only concentrate on the over protective mother tells me all I need to know. I knew Lee, I see his parents about town sometimes and his mother is very good friends with my best mates mother

I am so sorry Christine for what you have had to go through.
My 14 yo son went missing for an evening when he didn't come home one day after school. It was out of character, and within a couple of hours I was beside myself with worry .. going back and forth from the front door to the street over and over again, despairing and pleading that he appear over the hill. I called police and was in the midst of giving them details out front on the street, which was now dark, with a police torch shined straight in my face by one of the constables, when my eldest daughter who had arrived and was helping and also helping to deal with the police got a text from my son that he was in the living room (having got home via the rear entrance). He'd apparently been out at a shopping centre and doing bus rides with a "new" friend from high school (who later turned out to be "trouble"). I cannot describe the utter relief to be told he was home. Everything else completely disappeared -- I didn't even speak further to the police, I just left them outside (I think my daughter dealt with them).
You did everything right -- your concerns and care toward your son were not OVER-protective. It was "protective". You have a beautiful son.

The world was a totally different place in the 1980’s.
It wasn't like a social club, it was the grave diggers hut which he made comfortable with settee kettle etc, he turned a blind eye to drinking and smoking so the local kids were attracted there in the local area.
Yes, was just going to comment on that. A questionable " club" in the grounds of a church and cemetery. There must have been a minister/ vicar in charge of the church. Did he not see what was going on? Even if it was the grave digger,s hut ( l didn,t hear that mentioned), he was employed by the church and therefore accountable to the clergy. Very strange IMO.

In them days my park had a park keeper with a little hut and we use to ponse fags off him go inside the hut etc. Not saying the church was involved, but cmon, that's the biggest peado club globally. With what I know, coz it's not all here, I reckon he hide his body, waited for an opportunity and put him under one of the graves.
This is sad 😢 I was born in 1988 and immigrated from El Salvador to the United States at age 15. Once I got catfish by an older man I kept quiet but it is true when we are in our teens we keep secrets from our parents and put ourselves and dangerous situations.
We had Lee’s missing poster up in the Chippie where I worked in Oldfields Parade, Lee and his parents used to come in. Devastating he was never found.
I remember seeing this large missing agency billboard dominating the large platform wall in SE London, with Lee's face on it has recently has 1/2 years ago. It must be both so physically and mentally painful for the families, not knowing where or what happened to their absent family members.
As she said, she still look for her son on the streets in the image of a young boy, when he originally went missing decades ago. Although seeing an adult likeness may initially emotionally hurt her, it may help her in her long search one day.
I suppose there are different circumstances, but if they are alive, just to make contact somehow, just to say that they are alive. (even if there is no further contact). Without any contact or body being found, there is never any closure for those relatives.
My local train station, Blackheath, had one of those posters on the wall of the platform. I remember the case when it originally happened. So sad, mysterious and all too typical, in regards to teenagers who go missing. Unfortunately. I really hope that the family get the answers they desperately need and deserve.

Back in them days it was so easy to dodge paying fares on trains so he could have went anywhere so cant see them finding him. Such a sad story and I feel for the parents.

They should've concentrated on any burials that were taking place around the time Lee went missing instead of the whole graveyard.

They can do that scans / x rays over the gravee to check if more than one body or anything out of place

To be 100% that lee wasn't there they would have to match DNA from all graves that were there and investigate any bodies that didn't match the grave markers which is just a HUGE undertaking getting permission would be impossible not to mention the cost

I found it strange that such a protective mum didn't know which match he went to. I don't think they knew their son, I think he ran away.
I also didn't like how they implied Lee had some secret life as though he had a dark side. He looks like such a decent kid, how could they suggest that. It's an insult to the family.
Couple of minutes at the end had no volume to it, disappointing. This is so sad for Lee and his family. The agony over the years for them, breaks my heart. I DO hope the person(s) that did this, gets theirs!

How can mom be called overprotective if she let him go to a match on his own? That is giving him independence, and freedom, maybe too much actually. But we do the best we can. We can't be everywhere. Couldn't he be stolen for human trafficking like Johnny Cash. I think that happens more than we know.
I believe that his mum knew inherently that something bad was going to happen to her son, which is why she was overprotective. I believe in intuition. 😢 🙏

As a kid they said our friends ran away.. unfortunately they were all found in two separate mass murders one the candy man in Houston and the other??? 6 girls in a grave . All brunettes 3 from my Jr high and 2 were neighbors to us and my aunt. SMH NOT RUNAWAY'S
The thing I find that gets me through lifes tribulation is my faith. I believe that we get away with nothing in life. Either we repent and confess our sin to be forgiven or we don't. We will all be judged. I hope that these parents find comfort in their faith and that one day they get the answers they deserve.

Sometimes being overprotective can push kids away. Another thing to consider (as an armchair expert), is that maybe Lee gave her a good reason to be overprotective. Victims in these documentaries are contrasted in good light. We don't always have the facts. My opinion is this: His mother was overbearing and probably treated his as a child, he was trying to find himself and did so amongst the wrong crowd. He was probably abused and the abusers thought that he might tell--perhaps he fought back and received injuries that the abusers felt would lead to them getting caught...so they killed him.

I think it's naive to think the boy didn't have secrets. I was the most "policed" of kids, and I had a few things up my sleeve. It's very sad that he's never been found. Such a tragedy.

The fact that no teenagers came forward who were in the shed with the paedo the day this boy went missing is suspicious! The paedo likely implicated them in his death to use against them & have his way with them however & whenever he wanted. Hence to come forward now and awaken the trauma, guilt, shame,terror as well as fear of the community backlash and legal consequences, would be too much to bear!

The paedo had access to the church where his job was to dig graves & took the opportunity to set up the youth group to attract children giving them mind altering substances to take advantage of them, keep them coming back & say nothing to their parents who would have put a stop to it if they had known about the alcohol and drugs.. It's called grooming. When they feel they have control of the kids they start abusing them. Over time they get bored with that, they want moreĵ, it's not enough so they push the boundaries, denigrating the kids even more. It's a bit like a serial killer. The more they do it, the more they want so start taking risks, that's how the get caught.
@@eadweard.The paedo who was hosting the youth group in the shed was employed as a grave digger at the church giving him access after hours to startup a youth group where youths were given alcohol & drugs which is typical grooming behaviour of a paedophile! The fact the body wasn't found isn't surprising given the paedo's access & ability to bury bodies under or on top of other bodies. The graveyard was searched under the proviso that existing graves were not disturbed!! Given that manipulation & control is the way paedophiles do their dirty work without being outed by the victims u too should be able to understand my point!
