I believe Teddy is definitely going to be one hell of a coach at any position.Of football and definitely one of my favorite football player for Oklahoma all times would love.To see you on the side line during game time.Getting these boys pumped up for the game BOOMER SOONER
I wanted Knowles, but for that kind of money I would rather they spend in the spring portal. the offense was so embarrasing it would be nice to have more players on that side of the ball.
I believe teddy would definitely be a awesome coach for Oklahoma as a defensive coordinator for even somewhere on that team. You would definitely be a big fit for this program
I loved Frisco but it was a very long time ago, and it was a warm, sunny stretch in Fall. Not sure I'd like as much now. That was when OU played Stanford out there in 1978.
To me, Knowles would’ve been worth about 2 wins. Took us from 7-8 ceiling to a 9-10 ceiling. I think we’ll miss the playoff again and the bv blunder will finally be behind us.
I kind of agree with what Gabe said. Losing Knowles is really more of an ego blow in my mind than really missing out on anything critical. I don't think the defense needed fixing, but it sucks that we lost out on something that we seem to be in a good position to land.
If Arbuckle wasn’t capable of running his show I’m not sure why you would hire him. Of course the offense is his deal and it would have or should have been if Knowles had come on board. That’s the way it should be with your coordinators otherwise you shouldn’t hire them.
it's not a Mavericks problem, it's a health problem, the three times they've played us we haven't had either chet or hartenstein on the court, when we did have them on the court though we beat them by 14, and if you watch that game you knew it looked a lot more comfortable than by 14
@OKJake92 the best thing is we have switchable elite perimeter defenders, and two of the better interior defenders especially Chet, so we don't have to double team and pray the role players don't hit wide open 3s,
Huge blow? It’s not really a setback and wasn’t something I expected to happen - I even said as much when it was announced. Arbuckle was the “must-hire.” Optics? Sure, repeating that point might reinforce it, but overall, it’s not a major loss since it wasn’t a pressing need for OU.
At least we're not out $3 million! That's insane for a coordinator in my mind. Plus, from everything I've read, Knowles's system takes awhile to implement and the last thing we need is a the defense to take a step back while we wait on all the guys "getting it" and being back up to full speed. Also, Knowles is from the Philly area so the Penn St. family proximity angle does make sense.
Sooner fan that has lived in Fayetteville for over 20 years and has a kid there. Calipari requested the "Slobbering Hog" come back after it was retired post Nolan Richardson era. Bud Walton is always packed and always insane. The complex is a shrine to Nolan and the 90s. Just ask Duke, Kansas, Kentucky or even OU's Women's Gymnastics team... if you can walk out of Bud Walton with a W, you did great.
I'll take Venables 3x NC defense over a Knowles 1x NC defense every time. Plus Venables has the Oklahoma DNA and Knowles has the okie state, ohio st and Pinn St DNA
Knowles was a poke in the eye to OU but those hogs in Fayetteville were Literally doing it to our squad on Sat.!.. kept waiting for the prosthetic eye tent to pop up if one popped out.KUDOS to Porter and the squad for rare road win!
I hear people say why would he leave when he won a national championship and #1 defense. In today’s game, that is exactly why you leave, there is nowhere to go but down. Knowles’ value is at a high so just like players then now was the time. If OU had not leaked the information then there might of not been the completion but if you look at OU schedule and Penn State schedule, it is a no brainer where you are going to get the most wins. That is my take
I lived in SF/Bay for 12 yrs. If you were properly aquainted to SF, you'd like it. Like any city, gotta know which parts to avoid, and what things to do. How to dress (thin layers for SF), yada yada. NYC is my fave US city, then SF (Although I think SFs changed since i left in 2020, so all bets off). Also Gabe and Teddy, you need to come where I live now, in Honolulu, and I'll show you around!
I think we need all hands on deck for this upcoming year....got to get over the Hump and back to our winning ways this slump we been in as a program since our head coach just up and left is not acceptable we have all new faces in that program and we need to install into them what it means to be a Sooner and how we do things
I would. Have never thought Jim would have went to Penn state if you were asking me to bet all my money, I would have said either.Ohio state or oklahoma
I don't have heart to listen to your Bills bit. But Allen 100% reached the line on 4th and 1. Everyone sees that. Who knows how the game plays out if correctly called. Which is the point. Who knows? Coming for a team that lost an OT walk-off cointoss in a shoot-out in KC before, it is beyond heartbreaking. It might not be a conspiracy, but the "advantages" KC gets makes the NFL viewing a bit like playing with a calculator -- not fun at all. Anyway, I will not watch the SB because I simply don't feel 100% secure about the NFL's treatment of the face of the league. I'll read instead. Hike. Make a wicker basket. Great podcast, guys. Appreciate the Knowles discussion.
The logo is known as "the slobber hog" and it harkens back to the Nolan Richardson "40 minutes of hell" basketball teams. They ran up and down the court and didn't stop.
bc when he initially called, he didn't have full information on what it may mean to work with Brent. Then as he learned more, he may have not liked it.
I wonder what would give Oklahoma more chances for a championship. Budgeting and spending money every year in nil where the amount remains consistent from year to year or deciding to tank certain years to save money then selectively going all in with the saved money for years when we have a good schedule or opportunities at generational talent.
If what I read is true that Oklahoma just doesn't have the money other schools do why not save a couple of years so that we can compete with them financially when good opportunities arise.
I feel like it's going to happen sooner or later where a college football team tanks to save money for an upcoming recruit. Maybe someone like the next Archie Manning
The optics of losing Knowles aren't nealry as bad as the optics of telling the world our fallback is the DC from Arkansas State. Just tired of OU being in this situation. And Im worried about whether Joe C is becoming an impediment.
Hype train just flew off the tracks! Probably be right back here in the same spot next year. Possibly with many more positions to fill? So many variables!
I don't think Teddy was saying Brent should be calling the defense, but rather Brent is unlikely to feel comfortable with anyone else doing it since he is on the hotseat.
So I'm in a high estate fan I live in Columbus. I did a little research on this. Jim Knowles, if you do a little research yourself, you'll find out he only stays placed is about 3 years tops. Look what he did the Oklahoma state. This guy aint gonna stay anywhere. Everybody's looking for the reason. I'm gonna tell you the reason. He's impulsive and just wants to move on. That's all guess what? And 2029 he'll be somewhere else.If you want somebody, you can count on in your program year after year. This guy is not gonna be yet. He's gonna keep moving just who he is have a great day guys
I see a pattern where we can only attract former players or coaches…or it’s that the administration/HC/JoeC are not great at talent assessment and attainment. Maybe OU should get a DC from an FCS school, since it seems they love every player in the portal from the FCS. Or Maybe Kennesaw State’s DC is available?
This is the part of NIL nobody is talking about. You have coaches that have worked their asses off for 30 years to become the best at what they do and now the QB among other players is making more than him year 1! Knowles wanted more money. He saw Ohio state drop all those bags to buy a championship and he wanted more. They told him no. So he ghosted. 👻
Knowles has a duty to his family and future seek out his best value on the free market just like any other goods or services. Demand drives ones negotiating power up. In the words of the Funkadelic, "if you ain't gonna get it on take your dead ass home" Oklahoma should not get into a bidding war without being capable winning that war, period. Oklahoma has to become NIL competitive for coaches and five star talent, or get into a talent deficit and/or go the way of Nebraska. As some pundits have forecast, period.
@mitchconner2021 First, looks like you have it set so you don't get notified if people respond to your comments which would be fine unless you want to criticize without having to deal with responses which is lame and cowardly. What does being in the SEC have to do with this? We don't carry the weight like we did because of 2/3 losing seasons. That's on Venables. One of those seasons we were still in the Big 12. OU always has rough transitions between great coaches. But it's not like we were great until just this year in the SEC. OU dominated Texas in the Big 12. We were a lot better in the Big 12 than them. We finished with 13 Big 12 Titles while they finished with 4. So, if they're not having a problem with the SEC, clearly we won't either once we get our act together and we will. OU has been really successful for 75 years. It's not going to suddenly stop forever.
I believe Teddy is definitely going to be one hell of a coach at any position.Of football and definitely one of my favorite football player for Oklahoma all times would love.To see you on the side line during game time.Getting these boys pumped up for the game BOOMER SOONER
Let's get a good Linebacker Coach that understands Brent's system and move on.
Nick Saban would have hired Knowles. You always need the best coaches at all levels and Knowles is the best DC out there right now.
Knowles is a marketing genius
I think the defense is the least of our concern. Do what OU does the best, circle the wagons, buckle up and get the offense right!
Need to bring back Brian Odom as the linebacker coach!
I wanted Knowles, but for that kind of money I would rather they spend in the spring portal. the offense was so embarrasing it would be nice to have more players on that side of the ball.
3 million is one player. They can only do so much. 3 mil for a person that can turn your program around is priceless.
Separate administrations. $3 mill towards hiring staff isn't in the same pot as NIL.
@ then make the people who pay NIL cover coaching who gives a shyyy
Defiling as our LB coach looks real solid!!
12:00 frustrated by the optics indeed bc it would’ve been massive for us perception wise….
Saw Dreiling play at Pitt State. He was an animal. I think he'd make a great LB coach.
Let refocus our attention on Joe John now and the Tight End situation
Add Murray to that as well. Still ??? on the offense as long as those bozos are still there.
To me, Knowles would’ve been worth about 2 wins. Took us from 7-8 ceiling to a 9-10 ceiling. I think we’ll miss the playoff again and the bv blunder will finally be behind us.
middle of the night oklahoma breakdown.. hell yeah
I kind of agree with what Gabe said. Losing Knowles is really more of an ego blow in my mind than really missing out on anything critical. I don't think the defense needed fixing, but it sucks that we lost out on something that we seem to be in a good position to land.
It is, so hiring someone that is not well proven, is just another. I think BV needs to call the defense.
I would love to see them hire Nate Drieling! I think he would make a great linebacker coach and eventually DC
Ya win some, ya lose some, but you live. You live to fight another day- Willie Jones
If Arbuckle wasn’t capable of running his show I’m not sure why you would hire him. Of course the offense is his deal and it would have or should have been if Knowles had come on board. That’s the way it should be with your coordinators otherwise you shouldn’t hire them.
The BV experiment isn’t working. How may 6-7 season do we need for JC to get it?
Coach BV name a DC and manage the OU Team. Your the CEO. Keep bringing in the recruits.
it's not a Mavericks problem, it's a health problem, the three times they've played us we haven't had either chet or hartenstein on the court, when we did have them on the court though we beat them by 14, and if you watch that game you knew it looked a lot more comfortable than by 14
Yep, the same thing in the playoffs last year. Couldn't shut down the attacks at the rim.
@OKJake92 the best thing is we have switchable elite perimeter defenders, and two of the better interior defenders especially Chet, so we don't have to double team and pray the role players don't hit wide open 3s,
What happened to the Clemson guy?
Huge blow? It’s not really a setback and wasn’t something I expected to happen - I even said as much when it was announced. Arbuckle was the “must-hire.” Optics? Sure, repeating that point might reinforce it, but overall, it’s not a major loss since it wasn’t a pressing need for OU.

Agree. Not getting Knowles may end up being a blessing in disguise. Our defense is solid and no need to disrupt their progress.
It sounds like teddy and Gabe are saying we have a head coach who other coaches don’t feel the can work with
Defensive coordinators , yes.
Correct me if I’m wrong but I think the first three holes they played were one hour not three hours???
Front 9 in 3 hours.
