- We wanted to show how we built this new upgrade to the farm. We had run out of space in our original walk in cooler and we also needed a way to transport more product. This was a great solution to both problems. Thanks for swinging by the farm!
No a flower grower but love flowers...love the idea u can take this thing with u...say...u gotta bug out..useful as heck.

The much much better way and even cheaper is to buy cheap AC with manual control and add programmable refrigeration temperature control, which will allow you to run compressor separately from fan and also have a normal defrost cycle.
Programmable refrigeration temperature control will cost you about $ 30 and manual control AC is also cost less.
This is what I did. I bought a new 5000 BTU AC unit for $120 refrigeration control for $30 and now I can completely control my 4x8 cold room including defrost control.
Pasechnik can you tell us more? Like the exact ac and where u got the controller? This is a great idea and alternative.
I used 5000 BTU LG window AC unit. I had manual controls, no fancy display just knob which is thermostat. The thermostat controls compressor start/stop cycle to keep desired temperature. Also one switch controls fan speed Hi or Low. I bought this temperature control unit and replaced manual controls with it :

It is designed to control fan, compressor, defrost heating elements (normal freezers have them) independently.
This unit has lots of features for cooler/freezer unit. It is fully adjustable and can be set up to have necessary functions like off cycle defrost for cooler or active defrost for freezer, it has safety features like compressor start delay and much more.
The problem with AC unit used as a cooler unit is AC is designed for much warmer temperature. It has more cooling fins in coil and coil is tend to ice up. If you have more moisture it become a big problem. I had this situation before I connected proper temperature control unit. Now even if coil is iced up control unit shuts down compressor, but keep fan running, this is called off cycle defrost. This control has 2 sensors one is used to control set temperature in cooled place, the other is defrost sensor, which can activate and/or terminate defrost.
To me using Coolbot is a $300 worth of stupidity. Seriously for $300 you get unit, which fools your thermostat, what a joke. It is like scratching your right ear with your left hand :)....
And BTW I am a refrigeration mechanic...
Pasechnik you sir, are a godsend! I have researched this all but dont have the skills to figure it out like you did. I doubt many people do, thus why the coolbot sells. I have a manual control 5000 btu as well so thank you for such a detailed response. I am a mushroom farmer just looking for a quick alternative before i invest too much $.
You are welcome. It is actually very easy to figure out the wiring. Just take apart your manual controls(make sure the unit is unplugged before you start :) ). You will see temperature control knob is your thermostat which controls your compressor (Just like an On/Off switch). Also you will most likely see 2 or 3 speed fan switch. I use highest fan speed to help to avoid icing up. I turn fan off when temperature is reached (saves electricity, less noise, less wear ant tear)

We had a professional spray in 2 inches of closed cell foam on the ceiling and walls for a continuous seal. Debating on the AC and the CoolBot tho.

Great informative post, thank you! I am about to start a build of my own... how many inches of rigid foam did you put in the walls/what was the total R value? Cool bot suggests a total of R25 if you're shooting for 39 or colder... wondering if you put this much in the walls, and if not, have you had any trouble maintaining temp (when trailer is parked in the sun or otherwise)? Thanks!
We followed the Coolbot recommendations. The only time we see an issue is when it gets really hot (over 95*), and we have it parked in full sun. Otherwise, in shade it maintains well.
Why didn't you use spray insulation in walls? How did you insulate floor? Anything you would do differently after this build?

Do you remember what R-Value did you achieved? And how thick were your foam sheets? Coolbot recommends 4” to achieve about 25 R-Value but in the video it seems likes you use R5. Any thoughts?

What did you do about the existing wiring? taillights, etc. I'm worried about covering mine up completely.
The wiring in our trailer was in the walls, and all we did is add the foam board and made seems for the wires to run between two pieces. All the rear lights run under the trailer and weren't affected

did it get to 39°F? if you open the door will it take another 3rs to cool?
It does get that low, but we generally store flowers around 43. When opening and closing the door, it recovers super quickly, within 5 minutes or so.

Could you give some recommendations for shelving?
We use Dutch rolling floral carts
so to power the ac it's with a 3000watt gas generator?
It could be if you needed it somewhere without power or on the go
