When I quit high school, the institute of never a straight answer, I started reading Joyce for the reason that Time magazine, my guiding light of the day, praised him so highly. I started with Dubliners, which actually seemed to change my soul in a few different ways. I found it difficult to maintain my TV-trained attention span to the hard-honed prose of Joyce, but the epiphanies struck me deeply and embedded themselves where to this day they remain. Joyce is a great hero of awareness in a dark sea of blind mankind.
