- Hello guys,
As I've already mentioned on my facebook it is one of the videos that I've always wanted to make, so it was particularly important for me to do it right and the best I can.
Apart from two differently sounding pepper mills I decided to use mortars as well. One of them made of wood, and the second one of stone. To be honest I've never even used a mortar before, so I didn't know what I'm supposed to grind or smash in it. I simply bought some pepper, seeds, herbals, and fruits, and then I started hunting for the most relaxing sounds. With my eyes closed and the mortar next to my ear I was trying to grind all the products one by one. Finally I managed to choose: black pepper, linseed, some dried herbals, parsley, sunflower seeds, and bananas. In this video you can hear the final result.
It's a little bit longer than most of my recordings - it's because it consists of many sounds made with different items, so if it turns out that you don't like one of them don't be discouraged, and skip the video forward to see what's next.

ASMR, the only videos where falling asleep doesn't mean that it was boring.

Personally, I don't find the echo-effect fitting with these grinding sounds.
I loved the layering and the echo effect.
I wish this wasn't layered. Just slow intense grind of the pepper.

Might I make a suggestion? Request? I'm sorry if you don't do requests but I simply must ask. Would you mind doing a recording of just the alchemy sounds from Skyrim? If you have played it you'll know that when you take part in alchemy you sit grinding up ingredients with a mortar and pestle and then you hear a big splash and bubbling as you make a potion. Its simply the best. I should say that I've imagined myself several times just sitting there forming recipes and creating all manner of concoctions as a hobby, whether they be beneficial or detrimental to anyone's health. :)

Yeah my girlfriend does a lot of cooking. I've seen her grind black pepper, linseed, some dried herbals, and stuff like that. But my favorite is when she grinds my banana.

I love the natural sounds. I agree with others though. The echoing parts don't fit. I always find them creepy sounding anyway but they especially don't fit in this with such other natural sounds. I like the different types of grinding implements, some tapping and the varieties of herbs and spices sounds. Very good job on this one!

why the fuck do the distant sounds (like the cups being put down at 5:50 and 11:42) sound so fucking real! I play VR games and use open back headphones and yet this video has made the audio jump more into reality than any game ive played and any other video i've watched.... I really want to know why.
looking into this phenomenon further i've found out that if you take 1 earphone out it completely shatters the illusion...
my theory in this is when you receive a distant sound, you hear it louder in 1 ear than the other affected not only by distance but by the fact the sound has to travel around your head to get to your ear, from that information your brain can calculate the distance and direction of the sound. Whenever these audio clips were recorded, the microphones captured them perfectly and can emulate a sound not only from distance to your ears (this making typical binaural audio that most people have heard but can tell it's not real) but the differences that would happen from the sound having to travel around your head thus producing a perfect audio emulation and making it almost impossible to tell that it isn't real. I would like to do a study on the audio for this to see if it would be possible to emulate this kind of effect in a reliable way. Imagine the media you could create if it could be replicated.
