You don't know it now, but when you are older you will look back at the time you spent traveling/exploring in your van as the most valuable time in your life. You will discover who you really are. I think all young people should get out and travel and discover. Do it when you're young.

@ taking a year away from the workforce to van around and surf and climb and see the cities and states and wildernesses and meet the people of the nation is a good thing. Very few people "van life" for longer than a year. It's something young people and retirees have been doing for decades. Retirees in sweet RVs with every modern convenience a home has, camped out by the beach in paid for and secure camp zones and then young people in funky smelling vans camped out by the curb a stones throw from a public toilet.

    •  4 роки тому +1

@@christopherk9560 Yeah, a year is fine. However these people are promoting this as a lifestyle. See how many people actually LIVE in a vehicle and the percentage becomes very small, especially trying to have a relationship. The finances would be strained with no full time income and then combine that with close quarters living and you begin to understand why cellmates kill each other. LOL!! Check out class a living on YT that dude has a motorhome and see how glamorous his struggle is, it seems great but he has no problem pointing out it's not all that.

@ it's just a different way to live. It's not better or worse. To have things one way is to give up having them another. Might be the grass is greener on some other side, but no matter what the best way is and always has been, to love the grass you are on. Never mind the grass you are not on.

The great thing is reading people's posts about how impossible they think this is. Not everyone wants to live in a costly house next to the same people all the time. Attractive people can live like this, too. It's funny to think that they can't people think they can't. In the end you have to be happy with what you have, not comparing yourself to others. It's kind of crazy, 8 years ago when I was in a divorce I didn't even consider to live out of my car. I spent 2½hr commuting to work, which resulted in 5hr commute per day (since I moved back to my family home during that transition period), I worked over hours, had no free time since I was stuck with the legal stuff and high attorney costs. I kind of wish I had a clearer mind back then and found inspirational videos like this. Heck, today I would even choose to live in a van instead of a traditional life due to the lower cost and freedom. however, I had immense luck of coming across a cheap wonderful tiny studio apartment here in Malmö, Sweden. I bought it cash and now I pay 120$/m for my upkeep. I hardly need to work anymore. and I couldn't be happier :) More people should live life alternatively, get out of debt, consider minimalism and only focus on the things that bring them true joy in life.

But nothing about who she really is. If one takes the time to go look at her website, click on the "about" section and read who she is and what she's about... You'll see that she is more than just a pretty face. This woman is smart, well-adjusted, healthy, a real free spirit, and totally gets what life is really all about. I lived in a van for 13 months. i worked in a camp in northern BC. i spent like 400 bucks a month because i worked 21 days on 7 days off. by the end of the year i had 89,000$ in my bank. literally just been working odd jobs for fun for the last couple of years. van life gave me freedom, but it did hurt the ego quite a bit. girls were pretty shallow toward me even though im handsome. prior to my van life i worked mon to friday and some weekends, had a 1200/month rental, 500$ a month truck bill, and a drinking habit, never got a chance to do anything fun.. reduce debt, reduces needless garbage, downsize and SAVEEEEEEEE. LIFE GETS ALOT BETTER

    Great little build :)
I have an e150 that I’ve been converting over the past 8 months that’s nearly done! I see your third break light leaked, too! Seems to be a trend. I removed the original, repaired any damage and installed a brand new OEM light. No more leaks! At least there. My door seals all need to be replaced because they leak and I can’t seem to find replacements.
    Here’s what I’ve done:
    1. Max Air fan
    2. Full roof top cedar deck with ladder to deck
    3. Desk with an L-desk option when needed
    4. Single bed that expands to sleep two, and one in the isle under the bed when open; sleeps total of 3 (comfortably)
    5. Sink, gravity fed water system (no pump needed)
    6. 20 gallon 4” PVC water tube that rests on the outer parameter of the full deck. I can pressurize the water tube which has a quick connect valve for showering. Gravity pulls water to the inside sink and outdoor shower.
    7. Removed the passenger seat and built a bed for my 2-year old yellow lab, Finny :)
    8. Raptor-lined the van and roof
    9. Replaced all the windows (need to get them tinted)
    10. A toilet
    11. Closet, and lots of storage
    12. Plus the leaf spring upgrades
    13… more to come.
I used a program called SketchUp to build everything out. I pretty much have a full house in an e150. It’s rather impressive if I do say so myself :D I’m a proud parent of the van.
I really hope to run into many of the van lifers out there. I’m debating on starting a UA-cam channel… we’ll see!
Godspeed to all of you. Hopefully we’ll cross paths down the road :) Happy trails!
P.S. I mentioned this list in case anyone needs some ideas. :)

The Reality of #VanLife is a feature length documentary about the over glamorization of a lifestyle that was originally inspired by freedom, and is now being used to capitalize on the trend of wanderlust, bikini clad women, and Westfalias on Instagram. I interview a bunch of Van dwellers about the different challenges they face, and I actually try to make myself van life famous on instagram in the second half of the movie, to comedic results.
I put a ton of work into this documentary and would love it if you would go give it a watch! It is absolutely free!

I love what you’re doing. It’s all summed up by one word........freedom!! I’ve been an “over the road” truck driver for seven years. I’ve lived in my truck the entire time. I’m selling my truck now and I’ve bought an ‘85 Grumman stepvan (an old Fedex van) and I’m about to do a full on RV conversion so that I can continue my gypsy lifestyle but with just a little more comfort. Like yourself, I like having all my “toys” with me. I’m also a minimalist, which I think is a requirement for this type of lifestyle. But I like that. I’ll never pay rent again. I’m originally from BC (the Island) but I’m a permanent resident in the US and as soon as my rig is more or less fixed up, I’ll migrate north and south with the weather. I’ll do home repairs and remodelling for cash and that, only when I feel like it or need the money. Yeah, it’s very encouraging for me to realize that there are others who feel the same way I do! Thank you so much for posting this video!

Great video. It's how the sensible next generation who aren't born into lots of money will live. As debt free as they can, with flexibility, mobility and minimal possessions. I agree she looks well presented for someone who lives full time in a van, so not sure about that (but could be wrong) , but regardless, it's how the next gen will have to live to save. But reality is, government, financial institutions do not want this. So much taxes are found from people renting. I noticed the issue of bathroom and toilet did not come up and did not see any water or van heater. Trust me, these are super critical.

    • @lawrencedavidson6195

      @tahu1349 2 роки тому +1

@@lawrencedavidson6195 very true.... The omission about bathroom etc was not a criticism. It's just something that i find with camping etc is very critical with the outdoor lifestyle, which isn't addressed by many, and really should be highlighted more in most videos, not just this one. When in wild country, there are real dangers when you go off trail and nature calls. But still a good video.

Also if you just happen to live in area about to be flooded. Allot of homes are gonna go. But not yours if you can drive away. Point being is life is unpredictable. When an area your living in no longer becomes liveable or you simply want to move. Van life allows you to do so on at an instants notice. Depending on how you make your living you could travel to any city in the country and live there for a week. Only to move to a different city next week. If you have a passport. You could even go country to country almost when ever you want on a really affordable budget.

Garion Porter No vids. At the time, I worked for a man who at times was my landlord; my friends worked for him too! Painting apartments and getting them ready to be rented and such. I very often had driveways to park in; when I didn’t, I would just pick a neighborhood in the small city I live in. Many nights in what’s known as West End, where there are several bars and restaurants etc. I just figured the police would assume I left my van so as not to drive drunk (which I did when I had apartments as well; why lose your license to a DUI?). Thankfully never had any run ins with police. Once I was sleeping and someone tried to break in... I scared the bleep out of him (had a Siberian Husky as well, so she helped).

    • @aviansoul
      @aviansoul 5 років тому +1

Garion Porter A small city on the East Coast. The main concern is what I think are considered Vagrancy Laws; we’re not supposed to have those here in USA, but the truth is, we do. I imagine some neighborhoods would frown on it as well - family friendly neighborhoods may not want people they don’t know just parking and sleeping on their street. That’s one reason I chose to park in more business/commercial areas when not in a friend’s driveway; just being considerate and kind of smart. Again, why put yourself in a situation where police will have to interact with you?
A friend dealt with that once when he was sleeping in his car for awhile... neighbors called police and he had to drive away. Nothing worse than being woken up in the middle of the night to relocate! He was pissed off!

Agreed. Unfortunately live-in vans are thief magnets because often there is a laptop, camera, drone etc. Disguising your van as a commercial one for unblocking sewage pipes would make it rather less attractive, worth bearing in mind at the start of any new stealth build.

Yeah gotta go as stealthy as possible. Don't post vids of locations until after you have left, opt for vehicles that are less likely to get stolen, etc. Some work vehicles like vans, Silverados, etc are easy to break into and steal and are high in demand by carjackers. Some towns are carjacking hotspots, like Knoxville. Research before you go. Its extra work, carjackings could happen anywhere at any time, but you can reduce your chances. I'm just glad this girl is okay.
