Theres so little advanced tau painting tutorials, thank you so much for putting this out there. All the geometric shapes are definitely a challenge when your used to only painting cylinders haha

White/red scheme is great and feels more "realistic" but the orange just pops so much! Love it!

I paint around 4-6 armies per year for last 3 years, and now this is the right time to bring my own army on the table. I was wondering what colours to use, which scheme is right for me and fluff-friendly. First thought was "Farsight", but 3/4 of my paintjobs are focused on red. Vior'la is great and easy scheme, but booooring... UNTIL NOW. Great showcase how to make an amazing looking boxart scheme, thanks a lot!

I like the Blue and the White scheme.
I often see and have a special love for the Tau sept scheme and don’t think you achieved it. It strikes my eye as a very successful non metallic bronze/copper scheme.
I hope Tau miniatures make their way to your hobby desk more often. There isn’t enough Tau content out there and they are Good looking models.

I absolutely love your T'au Sept colour scheme. In part for the nostalgia factor, but for the most part because it looks way better then what GW did way back. And at last because it reminds me of the old bronze scuba suit.

Nice Video Trovarion. I’d be interested in a short vid on your take on what Khimera or other brands specific colors are stand out and why. Not a this vs that but more of a “Here’s why I like this” approach. Also it would be nice to see something short on some elaboration on approaches to story telling through balancing the figure in the setting (basing and basing materials)

For my T'au army I went for a tawny pink desert camo used in WW2 by the LRDG (the originators of the SAS, they painted their trucks pink). Feature colour for pads/ panels is a blue grey, which I picked because the combination looks so good on Kestrels (the bird of prey).
Have just bought some Greater Good figures from Wargame Exclusive, will send you some pics when they're done!

    • @isisnmagic1812
      @isisnmagic1812 2 роки тому

Actually yes the LRDG where about before the SAS, they used to drive the SAS troops to their drop of point and pick them up after the mission, they did this before the SAS got their own jeeps. It was the SAS who thought of pink painted jeeps , and was still using that colour in the first gulf war, they stopped by the time of the second one. That's why you can buy SAS jeep kits that come in pink.

I have a color scheme for my Space Marines and Imperial Knights similar to your Voir'la, only most of the red is a rich blue-indigo (I hate to use the term ultramarine blue in 40K, but that's what it is), yet retains a few red accent points, highlighted with a fluorescent red. I think it would go pretty well on a T'au. I've got some models I'm building now, so we'll see how it goes when I get them painted. Love the inspiration here!

Love it. The idea to add the purple to the blue one is interesting. One thing that would work well is more panel lining in the armour. There is a lot of contrast to be gained. I pained the free GW T'AU fire warrior last week and it added a lot. Tried an oil wash at first but the dents are often times not large enough so i traced them by brush.

    lg

My feelings from these models (which are all awesome):
The Vior'la scheme would definitely sell the best as a commission. It's everything you'd want.
The T'au (gotta love the glottal apostrophe) scheme fits the base really well. An army like that (with some extreme brights on big guns) would looks sick.
The Sa'cea is my personal favourite. It looks so cool and sleek but also like it has been in an actual battle. I'm not sure if the super-cool shadows fit the fiery warm base though...

There's some good tips in here that, whilst I don't paint Tau (for myself, there's always been something more interesting/pressing in my POS) I do remember being fascinated with all the geometry when the first dex came out (back in 3rd. Yes, I am "That Old". Older actually)

  • @thomasgross8289

One thing that always put me off of tau was that I thought they were boring sculpts but you're custom striping and painting overall made me a fan of these for sure!
And I'm sure made the experience of eating them much more pleasing to your cat!😂
And I have to say that the Epic Basing product looks great! Definitely will be using them in a project I'm doing soon, a heavily kitbash/proxy CSM demon mix army where the CSM is going to be my own custom chapter kitbashed from slaves to darkness and other AOS models, like the good guys, can't recall the name of them lol, as if they were members of that order originally but fell to the influnce of Chaos...now reconise the true greatest warriors are the harvester of skullz and blood for thier new favorite hommie the red fella 😉

Your videos are inspirational, thank you! I've just started painting my first mini in almost 20 years, a tyranid hormagaunt. Would love to see how you would professionally paint one of them...or lots of them. I've gone for purple skin/skeleton, orange carapace and green talons and claws. I'm struggling to get a nice finish on such a small mini. Probably not the best size model to start learning.

I don't like most Tau colour schemes because they don't look futuristic enough.
There was bluish-purple with neon orange highlights that someone showcased in a White Dwarf years ago, but I can't remember which issue. I would love to use that colour scheme.

Tau released during an extended break from the hobby for me (Necrons, too) so I never really got into them. Recently though I have looked at them more, and I really do like the Battle Suits, and how even the basic troops are sort of just like mini Battle suits. I have been thinking about starting a Tau army maybe as my next project. I love painting armour as well, there is a lot you can do with it.
PS: I liked the first one the best. I am a fan of grey and red, so this one stands out most to me. also it goes really well with the base you designed.
PPS: I must check out that basing company.

I think the classic theme is tan, yeah? I mean they changed it, but uh, call me traditional, I particularly prefer the old tan and brown Tau, given the tan was really a golden brown heading to yellow (closest to your 2nd, but not quite). Anyway, brilliant as always!
