Way back in the early 90's the only way to hear dial-a-song was to punch the number into a telephone that was wired to the wall and you would get a busy signal like 499 times out of 500
Yep, you would be damned lucky to get through. John Flansburgh once told the story of how people ended up using the number they had remembered from the jingle to give to bad dates who asked for their numbers, so they started getting a lot of messages left by people who thought they were getting ahold of a cute girl, with an example being, "Gosh Andrea, that was sure a weird answering-machine message. I had a great time last night..."
My son had a habit of unwinding and crinkling cassettes when he was two. He got a hold of my Flood and Lincoln tapes. I kinda miss ghetto blasters now, everything is so small and compact.
+Animation_Bros Yeah, I have a tendency to leave comments on most UA-cam videos I watch. Trying to do so less, but TMBG are so good, they just deserve them.
This invigorates the silent corners of my soul - those which I never knew existed. Thank you! Masterpiece that no one has heard... I cry for them, Argentina...
I would love it if, out of the blue, a version of this song with the long-forgotten lyrics to 'No Plan B' came out. I don't know if they would fit, but No Plan B works great without lyrics and this one feels as if it needs some.
This song is really sad. I feel like it's about a person who compulsively must have the thing perfect before they enjoy it and because of this they never make a decision they are happy with and they never get to enjoy the thing they are constantly changing or replacing.
@@phlog_dog7336, this fan base has been trying to decipher lyrics like "or melting down some army men to make green tea" or "triangle man hates particle man. They have a fight, triangle wins triangle man"
I'd say this is one of their more collaborative efforts, but I'd wager the main melody was a Linnell creation that they then fleshed out into a full song together. It's got lots of little Flans touches but the melody seems very Linnell.
Haha, it took until song 7 of their latest album to find one I like...and it's one without vocals. I wouldn't have guessed that. Still have tracks 8-16, maybe I'll like more.
63rd!
Nice!
ParticleMen hey John I'm 36 and I don't want the creative, silly kid on me die as I grow old. What's your advice? Love yoy guys from Chile 🤖

No cassettes were harmed during the making of this video... All jokes aside, super cool to hear another instrumental song!
Dial-a-song you kept me from throttling a floor manager at my call center who plays the same crap music every day at his work station.

I miss the smell of various Cassette Tapes. My copy of Flood smelled worn out obviously.

Lyrics: S, s, s, s, s, s, s, s, s, s, s, s, s, s, s, s, s, s, s, s. . .
Wow... an instrumental? It's been a while! (Well, other than Glean, of course...)
This is one of those happy songs they talk about....
-Adopt a cassette today. You could be a forever home to a cassette in need- Great song, loving the instrumentals.
Well, diehard TMBG fans still say that they want the tape, so I guess they delivered.
Mister Apple I've seen you comment on almost all their videos (songs) lol
+Animation_Bros Yeah, I have a tendency to leave comments on most UA-cam videos I watch. Trying to do so less, but TMBG are so good, they just deserve them.
Ya
Its in your bio
Grab a pencil and unwind with TMBG
Y'all need to do more instrumentals
this is a good birthday present
Dr. Worm, Happy Birthday!
we'll call you by your stage name, doctor worm.
It took me 5 play throughs of this song until I realized there are no lyrics to this song.
Such a good song. Though I do miss their wonderful voices. Just kept waiting for them to come.
This sounds like a song you would hear in a dream
This song! There are no words...
They totally fish-eyed those cassettes!
I'm sorry, did you just say "WAUGHMP WAUGHMP"?
"all the ladies and mens they know everything is better with a fisheye lens" - Strong Bad and Coach Z
I adore TMBG's instrumental output.
Playing this at different speeds and it's still great.
This bops hard
this is a jAM.
Lyrics:
Thanks there were bits I couldn't make out.
I suspect that my broken cassette-Walkman dreamt of this song last night
Ok cool now wheres the 12" extended dance mix? xD That ending fade out just made me want more lol.
this rocks hard!
This instrumental is simply amazing! Thank you, TMBG!
It's a mixed tape.
TMBG is too good.
Digging this one from the get-go
I kinda love this TMBG stuff. TMBG rock.
This invigorates the silent corners of my soul - those which I never knew existed. Thank you! Masterpiece that no one has heard... I cry for them, Argentina...
postal service? is... is that you??? love it
Almost sounds like a Lemon Demon song. Love it!
PogieJoe Did you know that one of the John’s sons listens to Lemon Demon? Check Neil’s Twitter, it’s incredible.
Wheatly Newman Oh damn that's fantastic.
PogieJoe Looked it up and holy crap - ACVC got radio play

The first TMBG album I ever bought was on Cassette, so this is an awesome video!
Rewinding that is going to be terrible.
Goat Bot be kind, please rewind

Cool! Keep going TMBG
i think its interesting that the final version of this song thats on MMR is different slightly. i wonder why that is
This song is really sad. I feel like it's about a person who compulsively must have the thing perfect before they enjoy it and because of this they never make a decision they are happy with and they never get to enjoy the thing they are constantly changing or replacing.
How did you get all that from an instrumental?

Fits well with how the song ends. It doesn't stop, it fades out!
@@phlog_dog7336
The title of it plus the feelings the tune elicited in this particular listener.
Awesome video concept
Oh this must be the update to the TMBG app!
Do you think this sounds more like a Flans or a Linnell???
I think it's a Flans.

Probably the most exciting TMBG song this year
this track feels like a slagsmalsklubben song
I'm really digging this one
Feels like a spaceship road trip montage
Is there a version of the song that has no fade-out?
the video is a little distracting. I turn the bass way up and close my eyes. Reminds me of Aphex Twin. Great music.
I really like this one.

I love this, sharing!

I thought it would be kind of cool to create a vocal track for this, but EU is hammering through Article 13. So nevermind.
