- Join us as my son and I hit the flooded Ohio River in search of big blue catfish. The fish were finicky but we managed to get a hook in 2 fish and one of them made the trip worth while.Some say I’m crazy for fishing such a big body of water in a 15’ Jon boat but I am extremely cautious at all times.Especially when my son is with me. @@hagengrubbsfishing Hey man took my boy out for my boat's maiden voyage with the new to us motor and got him on his first fish today little baby blue. He's three and was on top of the world. We're fishing out of a 16 48 Jon flat bottom with a 20hp Evinrude.

Love seeing your son bringing in that fish. I got 3 year old that can't wait until she just little young
When my daughter was 3, we used to fish a couple times a week at a little creek down the road from our house. She caught an eel one day and when I took it off the hook, we were 15' from the waters edge and that eel squirmed out of my hand and squirmed across the ground like a snake until it hit the water and was gone. It all happened FAST that joker was fast on the ground!!
Point of that story is...my daughter is 15 now (near bout 16), we fish together almost every weekend still..and she STILL talks about that eel on a regular basis. That memory has stuck in her mind...and will be there forever.
They are never too young man. Get out there and get some, even if its just catching bluegills.

I have had that problem this year just not been as aggressive. They will hit it but don't commit. Great see son catch that beautiful fish.

If I had to guess It’s probably going to be tough for a while just because of the cold front and fast water. Probably take a week or so of consistent weather to make them really active again.

I have no problem catching blues but never fish of that caliber. What are you doing to target those big cats? Deep, shallow, or is it just bait size/type?
I I seem to catch most of my bigger fish in around 30’ of water and most of the time on ledges.Fresh cut bait and lots of trial and error lol. Thanks for watching👍and good fishing.
Thanks for the info. I’m thinking I need to come east and try some of that river fishing. I mainly fish lakes here in Oklahoma. We catch a lot of fish up to about 20 lbs. we do have big fish I just have never been able to land them.

Hey hagen i have a small boat very similar to your(mine is fiberglass)and the river is blown out way higher than normal. When that happens like in this video do you fish the connecting creeks or how do you catch in these conditions with a small boat like you got. We also have a couple big lakes with big cats on them but if the wind is blowing more than 6 MPH it makes the water too choppy for my small boat so I am struggling to catch decent cats right now. Any advice??

They are great to eat. I never keep anything over 10 pounds. Just my preference. We spend so much time chasing these big fish that I would never want to kill one. I keep a few small ones from time to time when I want to eat some. The small ones taste better to. I hope this answered your question and thanks for watching.

I keep a few small ones sometimes. I have a pond in my back yard that is loaded with cats. Normally when I’m in the mood for fish I just go catch a few from there. Thank you for watching.

I think the reasoning behind it is...smaller baits take less energy to digest. Try smaller 4 inchers. Put two of em on there wiggling. Tail or lip hooked

Anyway that was an awesome catch that your son caught, almost a 60 pound catfish. I did see the video when your son caught that 53 pound catfish.
