  • Being able to build a hose on site is the latest addition to the truck. This is the 8th hose in 4100 hours. I run it at factory pressures, it's not turned up: 3rd actual hose failure, breakage from falling dead wood for the rest. I stopped to move the truck up the road and saw some drips on the tilter when I got out. It was a braid separation on the saw supply line, weeping, not blown. Perfect!

    Awesome. We have a similar machine at the mill I work at. We make all our own hydraulic hoses

      Thanks for the feedback! The Ryco is a great little beast, simple and easy to use. We're going to do a segment on the hose box in the future. Thanks for watching!

    Can you please make a video of the 870, under the covers? Mainly 855s in this area.

      Thanks for the suggestion. We had hoped to do one at my last 250 hour service but it didn't work out. We will try to get the 500 hour, that is more involved and would show more of the inner workings of the machine, is that what you are interested in? What configuration are the 855's being used as in your area? Shovel or directional falling? I think that Tigercat might offer a Buncher setup for that model too. Anyway, thanks for your interest and comment, we'll try to put together one in the future that shows more of the machine. It's a pleasure to do because it is such a terrific machine. Thanks!

    Why are you using the micrometer on the crimp

    • @thedailylogger
      @thedailylogger  3 роки тому

      Thanks for the question. I am measuring the crimp diameter with the mic to check if it is within spec. The Ryco 16 is a new tool, and this video was the first hose I had made with it. It is air over hydraulic so I set the regulator on the truck to what they wanted, 110 psi. Variance in air pressure and the crimper adjustment can affect the crimp- you don't want to over crimp it, and definitely don't want to under crimp it! We run Ryco hose and fittings, from Phoenix Hydraulics out of Myrtle Creek Oregon, they are great people and great products. The crimp sheet lists the correct crimped diameter parameters for each fitting, if I remember correctly the range for that 4 wire #12 was 41 to 43 MM. both crimps were at 42, so I was happy! The Ryco 16 is a great unit. We will do a video on what's in the hose box sometime soon, I'm pretty happy with it and want to show how I have it set up. Thanks again for the question, we really appreciate the interest. Be safe!

      the daily logger thanks for the info The crimper I use has a dial setting to adjust the crimp pressures . Defiantly cool to see different ways and tools to do stuff

    What's your opinion on those reusable (noncrimp) fittings? Do they last as long?

      Thanks for the question. I really haven't been around those too much. I have replaced a few hoses that had the replaceable fittings on them. It kinda seems like a good idea that didn't really take hold? The fittings are pretty big because the ferrule needs to accommodate the threads, I could see that being an issue on some hoses with tight clearances. Most of our shovels have auto greasers and those have threaded fittings for the small diameter feed lines, they work well in that application. Certainly the fittings are a big percentage of the cost of a hose! I have to say that we are very happy with the Ryco hose and fittings. We have a nice setup at the shop and I have the setup in the truck, it works well. The folks we deal with, Phoenix Hydraulics out of Myrtle Creek Oregon, are great, if you are in their Territory I would recommend them. Thanks for the interest, and for watching, we appreciate it. Be safe!

      @@thedailylogger yeah, those fittings are more expensive. But I can see them being good for guys with smaller equipment like skid steers, who would generally not carry a crimper around and therefore would have to go to a shop and have one made. Thanks for the videos I've really enjoyed them so far

      @@AlexA-yj9ft I think you're right. Hose replacement in the field is a challenge whatever you're running. If the replaceable fittings work for you and the setup you've got I'd say go for it! When I was putting together the hose box on the truck I wrestled with what I had to have, what that would weigh, and how to fit it on the truck in a way that would be practical and keep everything clean, and in good condition. That's what is fun for me to see on other guys videos, what decisions they make and how they organize it for their own circumstances. We're going to do a video on the hose box soon, hope you enjoy it! Thanks again for the comment and the continued interest!
