The restorations are why I follow this site. Anybody with a gullible banker can get ahold of the newest supercars, it takes commitment, or someone who should be committed, to have the resources and obsession to get this stuff done. I also like how Jay likes to keep cars looking stock, clean sleepers will always be cooler than a plain Jane car covered with high performance stickers.

In my opinion, I think you should keep the Volvo completely stock, let it carry on being a sensible, Swedish estate car like it was designed to do. Race it, rally it sure but I think giving it flashy modern wheels, fluorescent blue paint and a body kit on a car like that is just....wrong.

Pope-Eye A bone stock production car with a work-a-day-world 1.8 liter plant doesn't get anybody's heart throbbing. I like Jay's idea: all Volvo, but top shelf, modern, high performance, all in a vintage platform. That's gonna be way cool!

  • @nedgetchell2004

  • @gggg-dt4hj
    @gggg-dt4hj 9 років тому +3

The thing i like about Jay's garage is that he doesn't just throw money at cars to get them done quickly. He has his mechanics take their time and it will be finished when they get around to it. No flipping cars for profit, just pure restoration with dedication. Just as I typed this he says that he's not "Overhaulin'" lol. Keep the videos coming jay! these project videos are just as interesting if not more because we see multiple cars in each video. That's something you could add when you cover a single car say like a the lotus, show us and explain other years and models of the lotus as well if you have them all in the same video. Just quick panning shots of the car as you talk would be great, you don't have to go into full history on the car just the little tidbits you already share is more than enough and interesting. Your editors already do some of that but more would be appreciated as well.

I don't know if you're a truck guy or not, but I'm a sucker for old trucks and the mods people do to them to make them off road or mud trucks. My all time favorite truck is a 79 ford, they just seem to look wonderful when lifted with big tires. Their body style just seems to handle large tires perfectly.
there are plenty of them around and I'm sure you'd be able to find one pretty easily. Although I don't know how much "mudding" they'd do in CA. There is a truck on /muscle called "sloppy" I suggest you watch that video to give you an idea of what I'm talking about. It's far more likely you'd find something like that out in CA than a mud truck.

The late father of one of my mates founded Volvo Australia. In a fit of something,he decided they needed to build a hot volvo for the London Sydney rally. So they got repco to build a volvo 4 cyl. race engine for it(as in Repco Brabham ...) ...one of those would be a neat thing for the wagon.

What an absolutely fantastic line up of projects in the works. Love it all. As for the Volvo, I thought to myself since the AMG V8 wasn't being used, it could be interesting in the wagon, UNTIL you brought up having a Polestar V8 in the thing. Guess the AMG V8 must wait some more. Though it has to be said, what a great problem to have; wondering what to do with a mint 6.2L AMG V8 just sitting in your garage. :)

what you need for the Volvo Jay is Volvo's R5 T motor that they only had for one year (1995) for their racing station wagons. it can be easily tuned to 600bhp with a bigger turbo and better rods and pistons etc. THEN you'd have something. :)

From the Detroit Electric to the Harley Davidson generator, all of them are worth a video by themselves...but then the Volvo shows up at the end and I had to remind myself that you had featured anything else at all! :)
Personally, I would like to see her restored rather than modified. Which shouldn't be too difficult given that pretty much any Volvo part is available (be it made under licence, reconditioned, or new-old), and if you did have to go with another engine - perhaps a later Volvo engine? But otherwise restore her to her former glory, at least getting her into running and roadworthy condition as-is before going any further.

With that Volvo, since you're basically going OEM+, you should throw a set of 22" XC90 wheels on it. They'd fit that body very well.

Love the show, always informative. However I hope Jay Leno can do something, ANYTHING to get GM to build that Cadillac Elmiraj, AS IT IS. I think it was Maxim who wrote an article pleading with Cadillac to manufacture it, saying that concept cars have recently become something along the lines of "Hey, this is what your car could look like, but just not as cool."
    ELMIRAJ PLEASE

I didn't know Harley-Davidson made generators, but I guess I shouldn't be surprised. They used to make all kinds of stuff, early dirt bikes, mopeds, even golf carts. A mini golf course in my hometown had the remains of one of their carts rusting away on their property for years. Maybe it's still there, I'll have to check sometime.

Love the video Jay, I was really looking forward on an update with the Frazer-nash, I saw it disassembled next to the baker on a previous video, is it going back together? I also would not mind an update on the aero engine benz, and the panhard. thanks

There's a high performance Volvo wagon floating around somewhere that Paul Newman built, it's a good bit newer than Jays, maybe 1980s, I've seen it on a few shows.
That home built hill climber can't be worth anything, it's nice of Jay to offer to do something with it.

When I was a kid, back in the late 60's I had a friend who's brother built funny cars and he had two friends who both drove a little bulbus car called a Morris Minor. Do you have one in your inventory or know someone who does, I'd love to see one again and hear a little of it's history.

640hp Volvo V8 is V8 Supercar stuff from a special build 5 litres.Undriveable on the road. Reputedly the 4.4 version [the only version and discontinued] used in SUVs was a good engine though they are quite bulky. Keep it near original, maybe a 2 series efi 4 which should be near bolt in. No ball of fire but do go ok and cruise at 75 mph.

that hand made one looks almost like a Jeep Rod like an original CJ2A type deal.. It'd be cool to see it bodied like that or like a Ford 2dr roadster type thing, I think that fits the 50's well.. Then again it could do well as a Thunderbird type body too.. (can you tell I'm mostly a Ford guy?)
I want to see what's going on with the Fraiser Nash.

In addition to all of these vehicles, the last project update highlighted the Bronco...and it's still in the exact same spot hiding behind Jim's Lotus and the Rolls Royce. I dare say that Volvo has all the makings to be the Bronco of the next update.
