I love how he says, "People seem to like these" at the beginning of every Restoration Blog.
Damn right we do Jay.
Yes...yes we doo
Indeed!
I wanna live in that garage.
Feels like going to your grandpas after a few weeks and he’s showing you everything he’s been doing lol
Feels like going to your grandpas after a few weeks and he’s showing you everything he’s been doing lol
“‘I’m sorry for the poor quality video” Jay says while he lets us look into his incredible garage. The restoration blogs are among my favorites and we get it for free. Thanks for the high quality personal touch you put into your videos!
Strange since almost all smartphones these days can do at least 1080p.
many channels use an iphone for the vlogs and nobody complains.
Many You Tube guys will apologize for video if they have issues. Waste of time. Everyone cares about quality of content.
Video guy: hold my mic
Jay: lets rebuild it.
ReactableX agreed. Life of Tom vlogs with one, goon squad uses one also. Looks as good as a camera really, no need to waste money on a dedicated one
I absolutely love and appreciate Jay's commitment to preserving automotive history and knowledge! His level of enthusiasm and his passion for conveying the magic surrounding cars that many of us have never heard of and will likely never see is amazing! Whether we're engineers or gear heads or history buffs or just fans of beautiful & historic cars, I think we can all appreciate the incredible wealth of entertainment and knowledge Jay shares with us all. And on top of all of that, he's a genuinely great guy who has never lost touch with the common, blue collar man - just amazing! God love you, Jay.
Yea
I lost when Jay tossed the exhaust system to the side, “Well let’s go talk to the guy who designed it”. 😆
He literally threw it on the floor like it was a prop!
that made me laugh out loud. Damn dude, we know you got obviously endless funds but those tings are expensive!xD (there was a box with buble wrapping where he tossed it).
When Jay handed it back to the guy he sure looked it over. Lmao
@@sledzep01 if you watch it again he tossed it in to the box with bubble wrap not on the floor
Jays getting old, his back is worth more than 6lbs of titanium I wouldn’t have bent over either
Jay is the only guy to resto-mod a 1910 electric car.
Corbin - with a 1920s boom box 🤟🏼
Because he is the ONLY guy who also DRIVES his 1910 electric car after restauration :-)
@@peterpetiet7900 He framed his speeding ticket he got in the Duisburg. lol
Baker...
@@corbingreiner9879 I can just imagine the cop wanting a "selfie" of him, the ticket, and Jay with the Duesenberg." The guys back at the station won't see one of those everyday!!
These are my favorite videos. Craftsmanship still alive in Jay Leno’s Garage.
He employs some great ones!
I love Jay so much,
I remember watching him in bed as a kid before school,
it's so sad watching your childhood heroes getting older,
he is leaning a lot on cars and walking slow and stuff... :(
he is still my hero
God I hope this man lives forever.
These restoration updates are truly outstanding.
I can’t express how appreciated this installment is right now.
Thank you sir!
This is even better then The Tonight Show.
far ... far. better
Unfortunately this one seems to be paying some bills, alot of brand dropping. Helping companies out though
Pretty low barrier.
"It'll go farther than a Tesla, steam, it's coming back!" Love Jays humor combined with his vast auto knowledge, enthusiasm & commitment!
I love listening to Jay's car blog. That Ford GT sounds amazing now. I'll have to tune into these restoration blogs more often.
Don Rickles was once the tonight show and he made a joke about Jay sits in his garage and revs engines. Lol, he actually does.
pete smyth lol. Thanks for posting. I didn't know Jay was into cars until I saw that years ago.
Daver G thanks, I never knew that.
As he was explaining the Doble, I was hoping he would explain how it worked. Lo and behold, a running cutaway model! Amazing.
He's got 2 Dobles with a video for each one. Very educational and fun to watch. 1000 ft/lb torque out of the hole, omg.
"Why go to Italy when you can go to Detroit"
Two thumbs up Jay.
Coulda gone to Italy a couple of times for what that GT cost.$500k Ford 😵
Jay reminds me of myself, how he is basically a kid at heart showing off his toys. It would be really cool to get a personal tour and have him explain everything in his words.
"Why go to Italy when you can go to Detroit?" *smiles and gives a thumbs up*
Now there's a tag-line for somebody's video. Jay ought to copyright that line and see if Detroit would be interested.
Sorry, but the Ford GT is made in Canada.
that was so sweet, beautifully said!!
i don't get it, is it because italy is 5000% safer than detroit ?
I'm sure the video doesn't do the sound justice, but it sure sounds like a Japanese exhaust note, not Italian, from my PC speaker.
The restoration updates are the best.
To be a mechanic at Jay's Garage would be the ULTIMATE DREAM JOB. And that's an UNDERSTATEMENT. Man!
Thanks Jay for shout out in the blog this month! Always great to work with you and your team.
I'm glad Jay isn't letting the virus put a kink in his love for fixing cars. I'm seriously loving these restoration blogs. Goes to show you that these cars, trucks, bikes, etc. are very well loved and looked after. Can't state it enough love the resto blogs. Just like watching the old New Yankee Workshop programs from the early 90's.
Heck yeah it was. And now Jay is giving us a more modern car version of it.
How many of you would love to see Jay go through the entire garage with his iPhone? A few minutes with each car, start it up and maybe maybe drive some too. So many of those cars we've never seen. It would take months but apparently we have time.
It would take weeks LOL!!
@@oambrosia you would watch every min same as me
@@jeremyhanna3852 Can't argue with that!
Amen to that. His place is better than some museums I have been in.
OH YES PLEASE!
Jay Leno is a national treasure. Thanks to him for preserving these wonderful automobiles, their history and the process of restoration.
(walks up to the British roadster) "Everything on this car was broken."
No surprises there.
I know right 😆
Does rusted past confirmable identification count as broken?
Smith's electrics were known for being less than reliable.
Lucas. Smith's gauges were great.
@@jimr8198 Everybody who's ever owned a British car or bike with Lucas electrics says that. (We try to have spares on hand at all times.) Stay safe.
Yes Jay , we like to see what you’re working on at your garage
Best car channel on UA-cam.
check out allen millyard as well making single bikes in v4s and 8s
I’m surprised jay hasn’t made a modern steam car. With modern materials and electronics you really could make an amazing steam car these days. He’s done the jet car and the baker electric with modern electrics but now we need a steam car Jay.
I hope Jay Leno someday puts his beautiful car collection in a beautiful museum, so everyone can enjoy the quality of restorations that j and his crew have done over the years and pay to get in the museum. So j can make some money. He certainly deserves a paycheck from the American people for preserving American classics and European classic cars. Kudos to Jay kudos to his restoration staff and crew. God bless them all.
Love how Jay takes the money he has made and uses it to rebuild mechanical artwork and gives the new mechanical artists an opportunity to do it.
Good Lord that dash/radio in the Detroit Electric looks gorgeous! Give that artist a raise, Jay!
October October of 2003.
J, thank you for being such a wonderful host of your show. Hopefully someday you'll have a museum and you can show off all your toys. I know they're like, your Your children, you resurrect and preserve.
I really love these Restoration Blogs very much! That GT sure sounds angry! Holy crap! I'm intrigued by all of these cars. What an eclectic collection, right in this one restoblog. I look forward to seeing all of these in road tests in the future, especially that Baker Electric. My father, who was a car guy from the very old days (born in 1926), died this past week, and had been suffering from dementia but one of the last things I shared with him, while he was still able to converse, was one of your videos (1918 Cadillac Type 57 Victoria). He really loved it since his long-term memory was still intact. I also surprised him with the video on the Doble E20 steam car, which he had never heard of before. I know that the videos made him feel close to "normal" again, even if it was for 45 minutes or so. So, from a fellow Massachusetts boy (we're from Burlington), keep up the excellent material. Your videos always inspire me to do a little more work on my old Porsche. Thanks!
The back to LeMans licence plate is absolutely brilliant!
I read it as 'Back to Lemons'. lol
You just noticed that now!?!
One of the few times they didn't fuzz out a plate on his vehicles.
Wow as I’ve said before.... we are so fortunate to Jay in our community. Thanks again from Sierra Madre,CA
Like has been mentioned this is hands down the best part of Jay Leno's Garage, the resto blogs are the best
I'm looking at that shop, the cars, the tools, the time, the parts hand made with rare metals, the skilled labor. And then I envision this huge ten foot diameter pipe with Jay's money spin spewing from it. Thanks, Jay. You are saving automotive history it's original form.
Yes. Thoroughly enjoy the "Restoration Blogs".
Now, I'd love to see more of your more "odd" or rare vehicles that we aren't used to seeing here in the States. Always enjoy that as well.
Stay well.
Jay is a rare breed.... a car collector that gets his hands dirty.............. rear indeed !
not THAT dirty, notice he says 'we' when referring to work getting done. He has inhouse mechanics who do all that ;)
Tim Wasson , rare, rear is QUITE a different thing.
@@OzBeefer he's got dozens of projects going on. Of choose he has help. Derp.
@@xenonram my point was that he doesn't do the work himself, replying to someone who said he gets his hands dirty - why the 'derp' comment?
Said himself he wouldn't know where to start without his guys
But willing to provide arguably the largest budget of any motor museum
Employ people to work at their dream job without much time constrait
Then he gets to help watch and drive the machines
Makes him even rarer again
No donuts & burn-outs, by Jay Leno........euro sensibilities, thank you!
Jay's varied tastes in motoring keeps it interesting. At 8:55 you can see side-by-side, on three different lifts, three different cars from three different decades. That's really cool.
Would love to see something on that Morris in the background during the Pontiac segment!
Seems there're a few who agree with us. :-)
Bagheera B I thought I was seeing things
I thought the Minor ute was Australia only. I know of a few here in Adelaide South Oz.

I had been by the oil drips, a case of "top the fuel and fill

My first car. 1958 model and cost £100.
It's great to check in with Jay. I love the restoration blogs.
We lost sports for now, but have Jay Leno’s garage. Thank’s Jay for continiung to put these videos out. I look forward to these every week.
I love this channel. Leno buys the cars I grew up with and gives them another life. Live long, my friend.
The Detroit Electric is the one that captures my imagination. Awesome set of project cars, in a larger amazing collection.
7:08 I see the Turbine back there. Would love to see an updated video on that car.
What is the car number on that car? It is above the inside mirror. I was lucky enough to drive #4 and #47 and even get to do some work on #47 at the dealership I worked at. Used to have to go to the drivers home and clear the flooded engine with the hidden switch.
@@bigun447 how are they to drive espectialy compared to other cars of that time
@@carmadme Very SMOOTH. The suspension was marshmallow soft which is the opposite of today. There was a little turbine whine but they wanted that. The exhaust was something you did not want to hold your hand under very long. Acceleration was not tire burning fast but did move out nicely when you pushed the little pedal down. The #47 had to have the "transmission" replaced and it was done at the dealership I was working at. Every guy in the shop was turning a bolt just to be able to say "I worked on a Chrysler Turbine. There is a starter override switch up under a control box left front. To clear a flooded engine (prevent a hot start) you would leave the ign switch off, hold the starter override switch in and spin it up until it was cleared. Then when you actually ignited it there were no mosquitos in the neighborhood. The people driving this one were not the most selectable ones to drive it. They did a lot of DO NOTS. Unless someone has Hijacked it, there is one at the Transportation Museum in St. Louis, MO. Mike "Turbine Mike" made a static display actually run by using parts from display turbines and making some. They take it/or did take it out for parades. It might be gone now as I have not visited the museum in several years. Heck, it could be the one Leno has. One of the Chrysler guys who oversaw the programs repairs was Alan Bradshaw. He was also instrumental with Dr. Nathan Ostich and his Flying Caduceus land speed record car.
@@bigun447 Wow man, awesome bit of info/story. Cool to hear.
@@bigun447 I'm curious, were these cars sold at a loss? I would assume with all the tech for its day, they would have to had been Sol for a lot of money to recoup R&D and costs of building them.
For all his wealth and fame he is just the neighbor kid with a few cars . Thanks for sharing your collection with us and saving history for the future .
As a Minnesota native, I did not expect Jay to wear an Minnesota Street Rod Association shirt in California. I wanna say he was a guest at the Back to the 50's weekend a few years ago. COOL!
Love the license plate on Jay's Ford GT.. "Back to Le Mans" ..
very nice touch
Happy 70th Jay! Love the channel. They say 70 is the new 60. What do you think?
Live 100 years. Easy. Just do it. I'll be 71 this June and the plan is to live longer than anyone in my family so mid 90s is a minimum. Thank you Jesus and have a nice day, Paul in Thailand feeling fine. And thanks Jay for eveything.
Most of the folks who've died from the Corona would probably disagree.
@@cluckhead1913 It helps too to study longevity myth and fact. There are books and articles and people on TV. I have a small cheap studio and a pension and build model airplanes. He's walking like 70 is the new 80
Jay looks like an old depressed man.
No spring in his step, no jokes all serious no smiles, only cries.
Smiles and cries.
Jay Leno is a true embodiment of a car enthusiast. On the AMMONYC channel there is a tour of a really sad car collection, there are lots of rare cars, but they never see the light of day or are enjoyed. Jay could show the owner a thing or two.
Jay is really fascinating. I always come accross with him driving different cars along Sherman Way and he always put a big smile on mu face when I do see him. 💯
Thanks, Jay, for letting me live vicariously through you!
I love these restoration blogs... over and over again. For me, Jay don't have to
apologize for the quality. I am very happy he still makes them.
I remember Jay acted like he was above ordering the titanium exhaust for his GT, then the intro starts and he's just bam bam bam bam slamming the pedal 😂😂.
Glad you finally came around!
Happy 70th Birthday on Tuesday Jay!!
Wow. What a pleasure it is when a new resto blog releases. Thank you Jay for the entertainment, but thank you most for maintaining the beauty and prosperity of these wonderful vehicles. God bless.
Let's have a restoration blog once a month, but in addition to the other videos. I know, I sound like a spoiled kid, but I just can't get enough of all of these videos!
Thank you Jay for taking good care of your people during COVID 19. We need the entertainment found in your blog more than ever. In Nova Scotia we have just been through the largest mass murder in Canadian history. The gunman, with a fake RCMP car and uniform, ranged over 100 miles killing 22 people including a pregnant woman. Very sad times in our province. You are always upbeat and cheerful which is what we need at this time. God bless.
The way he throws that titanium exhaust onto the ground 😱😱😱
only to find out in a later shot there's a box with bubble wrap bellow... whew.
Colin Stuart
I thought the same thing sir
You can bet that that exhaust system costs like it's made of gold instead of titanium.
If only we had video with sound and we were able to hear it hit a box and some padding. If only...
I about died when i seen him do that too especially when i built both those exhaust systems i died for a second
I'll definitely watch Restoration blogs in this format. Love the chance at learning something new. Thank you Mr Leno and the hard workers there.
Mr. Leno, most people are fortunate to be somewhat proficient in one skill so they can negotiate life and be able to support a family (that would describe me). Then there's you... I can't even begin to list all the different areas where you're not just proficient but a bonafide expert. You're a world-class entertainer on par with Johny and then there's the automotive and motorcycle 'hobby' of yours. God knows how many folks are making a wonderful living because of you. You should teach a college course on how to stay humble when you have a million reasons not to.
Love the Jay Leno's Garage, extremely entertaining and educational... or is it the other way around?
I really appreciate Jay. He is a great Ambassador for American made automobiles.
I don't mind the video Jay just good to see you guys. Keep up the good work.
Thank you Jay for posting these videos of your cars and builds. I can't afford any of these cars or restorations (I have a 66 "K" model fastback Mustang that's been sitting for decades) but can live vicariously through your builds.
thats one cute looker cat!
I love the old Wills St Clair roadster, what a beautiful car ! My friend's father, a local eye doctor at the time, owned a 1926 Wills St Clair sedan which still had the original paint, at least back in the 1980's. It was an amazing afternoon when we spent a hour together as he told the Wills St Clair story to me. I still have a picture of that car.
These restoration blogs ARE the best... I just LOVE the walk through the garage, seeing all the projects, meeting the guys responsible for the actual work. They're all obviously true craftsmen in their own right... Seeing the cars in various states of restoration, hearing the stories behind each one... Jay is the luckiest man on this planet. The ONLY thing missing are a couple of scantily clad, gorgeous young girls. Work on that Jay, OK?
Firing up that GT and hearing it? A pure automotive symphony.. WOW.... It doesn't get any better than that.... Forget steam, electric etc... Raw horsepower, there is NO substitute..
Thank you so much for sharing another Restoration Blog, especially with times the way they are. I love these episodes.
Jay thanks for your time on showing us your restorations hope to see these on the road. Thanks for keeping them on the road.
Thanks Jay! These shows and your TV show will be a treasure trove for future historians to learn about American Car Culture. Stay well.
I feel like I'm a guest in his garage, an old friend if you will, and he's showing me around. Very cool.
Thank you for all the hours and money invested to bring those wonders to life and for sharing with us.
I love that steam car!!!
Yaaaasssss! The resto blogs are the best IMO
I've always said that no amount of money could ever get me to go to califonia. These videos of those amazing vehicles are great. To be able to take a tour of Jay Leno's garage would be the only thing to get me to go to califonia. Keep the great videos coming.
I love how he starts his half-a-million dollar GT, and immediately revs it to 5,000 to 7000 RPM. Hopefully it was already warmed up.
Yeah it made me sad to see that. Warm or not, it takes a bit of time to get oil pressure to the turbos
I was wondering why George was so damaged and then you brought up the MG and reminded me. Lol.
@MrPitjoey lol yep
@MrPitjoey I saw that too!!!
Wow 😍😍😍 the titanium exhaust on that GT, it absolutely howls!
Not sure, I bet there’s some difference but I just love how exotic the Ford GT sounds.

Happy birthday Jay Leno!!!
I have been a dedicated car guy for over 30 years, I have studied every make, but I have learned the most from you by far.
That Jimmy seems like a hard working honest employee don’t lose him!
I recall seeing Jimmy on some episodes of Boyd Coddington's show. He and Boyd butted heads over some builds and Jimmy walked. I think he landed in the right place. What a craftsman!
@@hgpiiihgp I was wondering if anyone else recognized him.

Jay has the best retirement plan that anyone could dream off
These are my favorite videos you do Jay. I would love to see more content documenting the restoration and maintenance of your fleet.
That Baker Electric is so rad. A real 21st century hot rod. I've been following these blogs for years and I can't wait to see it done.
1:19 I really, really, want to see more of the Morris Minor in the background with the canvas roof. Okay, I'm a Brit, and they formed part of my childhood, and when one passes by, you can smell the 1970s (in unburned fuel).

yeah! No big deal at all. Quite similar to mine if I am honest. One 2004 golf and counting, but it's all up from here!
Inconel with a PVD coating and you'll have a set of bullet proof rings for the steam car. Call the guys at Oerlikon Balzers.
They'll handle 1000 F?
@@BillB23 Yeah, expensive stuff, but extreme heat and pressure is exactly what it's good at. Jet turbine blades and rocket combustion chambers are what it's usually used for.
@@Sawblade02 Thanks for the info. I don't know incanel from eclairs, so you have cured that part of my ignorance.
I know nothing in metallurgy, but I remember reading Iconel was used extensively in the X-15 space plane structure. If it's good for NASA, it should be good for Jay.
@@BillB23 It will go up past 1800F, there are a myriad of inconel alloy variations to suit almost any need. The coating adds the real magic sauce, they can provide some amazing friction reduction and wear improvement properties You wouldn't have with the base metal. I'm especially concerned about excessive wear in the bores when moving away from a standard cast iron ring.
Honestly, the restoration blogs are my favorite amongst the Garage videos... it is fascinating to see the projects as they are in progress and talk to the amazing craftsmen who work with you. Such a great bunch of guys! Thanks for posting, Jay... your fans really appreciate it!
No need to apologize jay, the fact you are still in good health and making the videos any way possible is good enough to me. Keep it up and stay safe!
I probably wouldn't have noticed the video difference, if you hadn't mentioned it. I really dig these updates!

Impossible not to love Jay Leno,he makes absolute sense
I am hoping, and I see, that Mr. Leno may be attempting to preserve and interpret our automotive history! Kudos!
Normally I'd be asleep for work but I got all week!... no complain about the late night upload.
Happy (slightly early) birthday, Jay!
Restoration work really has to be something that you love because you always run into these unexpected problems that can give you massive headaches.
Jay can get just about any car he wants. I imagine if he wanted one he could get a ZiL 41047. Now that would be a car I bet nobody in L.A. would have. I would love to have one of those myself.
Jay always amazes me. I have seen so many of his videos and I have never thought he ruined a single car. Most of the time it's better to to polish up an original car than to restore it.
