we will get you to buy that peter griffin suit no matter how many die
It would be epic.
NO WE NEED GRIMACE
30,000 likes. We must carry on soldiers
Petuh put the suit on petuh.
@@Joe_. Didn't Peter dress up like Grimace once?
I constantly think about the fact Oswald was technically the first Disney icon. Can you imagine if Walt never lost him? People would be walking around Disney parks with bunny ears instead of mouse ears. Hidden Oswalds everywhere.
I love Oswald so much I warship him.
Playboy was almost called Stag Party. Waitresses at the club would have been wearing antlers.
pete predates oswald
God what a beautiful world to live in
@@viewer-of-content true but he was never intended to be a mascot
When the Animaniacs had a movie about their parents, I completely expected it to be either the dog versions of Honey & Bosco from Tiny Toons or Oswald Rabbit & Ortensia Cat, & was let down hard. It would have been perfect, but the concept of copyrights & licencing was lost on my child brain.
U mean wackos wish
I need to watch the movie
I thought I just remembered that movie wrong and it never existed
- I kinda agree with "Twinkle the Fox", and completely with Lt. BaconWaffles; the portrait in the movie was just a prop! That was just the "Animaniuac" characters portraying themselfs in a story that's fictional *to them!*. It's the same thing for "Thimble Theatre", from which we know Popeye, as well as the similar state of "Super Mario Bros. 3".
- I state again - the portrait of their parents was just a prop; the dog versions of Bosco and Honey ARE their parents...
So to answer what Grimace is, he's apparently supposed to be an anthropomorphic tastebud.
FINALLY.
That's even more horrifying than I imagined
Source?
Grimace was my second crush (the first being Mr yuk) so this lines up
@@benamisai-kham5892 girl what
Clerks: The Animated Series taught me that nothing can kill the Grimace.
Well that and the crew convinced McDonalds to have that joke by suggesting it works in McDonalds’ favor by suggesting the Grimace is so powerful that nobody can kill him.
Even though Walt Disney lost the rights to Oswald, he still got cartoons done by Walter Lantz’ studio. It does make me wonder if when Universal sold the rights to Disney, that the post Lantz shorts are under Disney’s ownership as well.
I also had this idea for a Kingdom Hearts spinoff starring Oswald, Marina Lightyears, and Gex where they travel through worlds based off other Square Enix owned IPs and Disney’s TV shows. Marina and Gex being owned by Square (Until for Gex, Crystal Dynamics and him were sold to Embracer group)
OMG IS IT GEX NIGHT
Oswald made a cameo in the Mickey Mouse cartoon in a scene where Mickey was scooping up a pile of trash and ends up scooping up Oswald but then toss’s him away immediately.
BRUTAL.
@@zeepsterd Oswald looked confused also this cameo was recent
*He threw away his brother...*
He also appeared on a bill board in another episode advertising some sort of drink but I think that's all
@@funnyman5070 wow,
First Mickey threw him in the trash
Then Mickey ruins his billboard.
How brutal.
Another abandoned character I recently found out about;
I was rewatching the Simpsons and found out about a character named Dr. Marvin Monroe. He's a family therapist who was first introduced in the third ever episode of the show, where the Simpsons nearly bankrupt him because they're so dysfunctional that they cause a blackout. He also played a big role in Marge Simpson vs. Itchy and Scratchy, where he pretty much dispensed the episode's moral in a debate with Marge. Not as interesting as Polygon Man but thought this'd be interesting.
Yeah but he died canonically so he didn’t disappear
@@thefreelancequeen oh. Huh.
@@thegrandxbunny2073 He was dead, but later came back
I love Oswald. He has charecter, personality, drama, and a neat design! I wish he made a comeback.
6:00 “[Oswald] being one of the first cartoon characters to actually have a personality.”
Just want to add that George Herriman’s comic strip Krazy Kat (1910-1944) paved the way for this type of dynamic cartoon persona, with characters like Felix, Oswald, and Mickey resembling the strip’s foil Ignatz Mouse moreso than the titular lead (Krazy being passive, poetic, eccentric, a hopeless romantic etc). The comic first began seeing animated adaptations by IFS in 1916, none of which captured the wit of the source material. Disney would draw inspiration from Herriman (see the poster for Alice the Peacemaker) and praise his works in private, but this connection is suspiciously omitted from the Walt Disney mythos. I believe I’ve read somewhere that Pat Sullivan of Felix fame was involved with IFS in 1916 before debuting his own black cat three years later, but don’t quote me on that.
Thank you for bringing this to my attention! I would like to cover it even further in future videos!
What's interesting is that Universal currently owns Felix under Dreamworks Classics, and yet hasn't done much with him, aside from a comic series, despite being one of the first cartoon characters.
@@connorbeith3232 Plus Dreamworks only bought Felix as a fashion brand
@@zeepsterd another thing is that Oswald wasn’t the first character of Walt’s to gain massive attention. That honor goes to Julius The Cat, who you should look at soon.
Here's another lost character: Sylvia from Ice age
In the first Ice age movie, there was originally supposed to be a character named sylvia, she was a female sloth who acted as Sids bubbly love interest, and throughout the movie she would constantly follow him and hoped that they could start a family together. she actually got pretty far into the film's production, not only were most of her scenes and voice lines finished, but she even made it onto an original poster for the movie (I also remember playing a CD game for Ice age a while back and I believe that she MIGHT have been a playable character, I've also heard somewhere that she made it in a book for the movie), but test screening audiences didn't care for her and she was quickly removed. Hence why Sid is the last of the herd to find love in the franchise. Speaking of Sid, in this original draft he was supposed to be more of a perverted con artist, there's a deleted scene where he scams three baby aardvarks out of their rations before getting jumped, and this is where he would meet Sylvia in an alternate version of another deleted scene where he meets her, there's another deleted scene where he's talking to other female sloths in a hot tar tub, and he makes a nasty remark towards them before being kicked in the groin and left to wallow in pain, it's no surprise that audiences didn't like this either.
I saw those...back then when I saw the deleted scenes, I was not smiling and well, it made me not like Sid as much if those scenes were kept...and to be frank, the rhinos reappearing to Sid in the hot tub in the finished version felt a little bit funnier.
I haven't been this surprised since that time I learned of the toy story black Friday thing
@@Twinklethefox9022 That was such a fever dream of a storyboard, Woody was a bit of a dick in the first Toy story movie but not to that extent
I love how you treat grimace like some sort of cryptid legend that stalks McDonald’s land as a legendary beast, an entity you may say that just appears, some say he’s always been there
Conker's Bad Fur Day is one of the greatest games of all time. Hopefully he'll make a much needed comeback on the Xbox Series X.
You can’t really do Conker again unfortunately. It’s whole gimmick has worn off because of people imitating it.
Here’s one you Might like: Crusty the cat from Chuck E. Cheese. He was in the first Chuck E. Cheese location and would only exist at one location. He was simply scrapped because corporate didn’t like him all that much. The second location would open in 1978, with him being replaced by mr. Munch. He would have a couple of show tapes with him in it, but most are lost media. His bot is owned by a private collector now
Chuck E Cheese’s has a lot of forgotten mascots, like Harmony Howlette, Dolli Dimples, BB Bubbles, Artie Antlers, Foxy Colleen, Madame Oink, The King, and so many others.
This company ditched an abysmal amount of their characters.
@@genesis-138 yeah it’s honestly sad.
I'd love to see them bring back characters like the King, I'd give it a little spice to their current lineup
Grimace then: a harmless mc Donald’s mascot. Grimace now:A LITERAL SERIAL KILLER WITH HIS OWN MILK SHAKE
My step mothers’ nickname is grimace,
she loves purple and is also missing her neck.
The California Raisins also had an unreleased NES game that, while fully completed, was shelved indefinitely due to the marketing campaign ending. The rom has since been leaked online, and apparently it's a solid platformer. Not Super Mario 3 tier, but a decent game. Like B-.
I thought that was the main reason it never got released.
Oswald's history also led to mine in a way. Walter Lantz worked on Oswald cartoons for a while, but after he left, he needed another character to star in universal cartoons, so he created Andy panda in 1939. And in 1940, one of his cartoons titled "Knock knock" introduced me, and I of course became Lantz's most popular character.
Thank you for letting me know!! So many interesting mascots and characters I’ve learned from this comment section.
My favorite UA-cam person is back at it again. You are too underrated, man.
We need that California Raisin Cosplay ASAP.
You’ve been watching for years! So grateful to have a loyal subscriber!
Vinton's Christmas special was a family tradition -- I have 5 Cali Raisin band dudes overlooking my stove's hood! Had me hooked right away by putting them first :)
Glad you enjoyed it!
damn the mascot of the united kingdom had a dark tragedy today too...

The California Raisons had a ton of Merchandise with their halloween costume being the hottest seller of 1988!
GOOD.
i love how Epic Mickey was the very first game that dived into the concept of forgotten Disney characters, that game had such an unique charm to it, mysterious and ominous, even dark at times, the original art was nightmare fuel
I can see you were confused on what grimace is. In the early happy meals, they actually included Gumdrops, so I'm assuming Grimace is a purple Gumdrop. If my theory is correct, get ready to see a lot more multi-colored Grimaces
He's supposed to be an anthropomorphic taste bud.
I cant even tell you how excited I was when I saw Oswald's stuff start showing up in the parks as a kid. I grew up going to Disneyland as a kid and had this insane obsession with like Disney facts and history and stuff like that. I also really liked bunnies as a kid so as soon as I got there and they were selling Oswald stuff my ass was first in line to buy something lmfao. I didn't ever know they had a walk around character though! I am going to disneyland with some friends soon and maybe ill see him there :) Love to get a picture with him!
Oswald had a pretty sad fate, especially when Disney avoided any mention of Epic Mickey due to the second game's low sales than intended and the closing of Junction Point. Not only that, the true original mascot Julius(who originated from the Alice Comedies)was ignored also by Disney.
To quote Jontron with the California Raisins, "They turned Michael Jackson into a sun-dried fruit!"
I think the thing with Julius is due to his similarity to Felix the Cat (which was intentional, he was meant to ride off of Flex's success). There is a building in Main Street US named for him though!
Y'know, when I heard you discussing the history of Oswald and his role in Epic Mickey, it reminded of an idea, or rather a head canon I had for Kingdom Hearts 3. It was a subplot with Mortimer Mouse taking Mickey's kingdom in his absence and forcing Minnie to be his queen. This is because Mortimer felt cheated out of being king and believes himself the rightful ruler. In his backstory, it would be revealed that he was competing with Mickey for the title, only for Mickey to prove himself worthy. This ultimately culminated in a boss fight with Mickey against Mortimer. Ultimately, the idea was born after my Senior animation class, where I learned that Walt Disney was originally going to name the character Mortimer. Is was just a fun head canon and Easter egg that I cooked up.
I love how they traded a human being for a cartoon rabbit!
Kinda based/j
“Can the virus kill the Grimace?”
*”Nothing can kill the grimace”*
The Lucky Rabbit had a cameo in the new Doctor Strange movie, the Scarlett Witch's kids in an alternate universe were watching a cartoon of his, presumably because it stayed popular on that world. It was a background thing but it was a nice Disney corporation meta-joke.
I don't understand why some people are afraid of clowns, but okay, I think the black and white is what makes the Sugar Rice Krinkles creepy.
I'm an '80s baby and the Will Vinton Christmas is/was EVERYTHING! I highly reccomend giving it a watch.
I was watching this and my mom walked in the living room and started singing into the grapevine (for the raisins). I was born 99 too n I have no idea what they were. But u could tell the guy that made them made the micheal Jackson bunny. They literally look the same
Funny how I recently got a copy of bad fur day and this video comes out!
Enjoy!
Theres a few other sports mascots that are lost, one of the main ones is the Cleveland Brownie, who used to be the primary logo of the Cleveland Browns and even had his own mascot costume, but he’s been reduced into a secondary logo in the modern day. Theres also Howler the Yeti who was the original mascot of the Colorado Avalanche of the NHL but was eventually replaced by Bernie the St. Bernard
conker is the only game mascot who ever fought an opera singing shit monster, he deserves more recognition
The california raisins were huge back in the day. One of my friends got married in California Raisins costumes!
THAT’S AMAZING.
I knew about the California Raisins and the commercial that MJ did, but I never knew that the person responsible for them did MJ's rabbit form for Speed Demon!
Dang I’ve been complaining about the lack of pikmin 4 for 10 years but now I I’m going to shut up, do to finally hearing conker’s story.
Oh, don’t get me started on Pikmin 4.
@@zeepsterd lol, finally someone gets me about that game.
Funny mentioning creating Mickey without Ub Iwerks, the co-creator.
For a long time Oswald has been one of my favorite Disney characters because of epic Mickey. Both games I loved and got me interested in the history of the parks and the company itself.
I always wondered where Hamburglar, Birdie and Grimace disappeared to.
You don't even see Ronald any more.
I watched the California raisin cartoon with my brothers on Saturday mornings. 3 brothers, in pajamas, with a bowl of cereal in front of each of us sitting criss cross applesauce style on the floor...the 80's were a magical time
Thank you for sharing!
Johnny DC is a fairly obscure one. They were the on-again, -off again mascot for DC comics until 2012, starting as a sentient DC Logo before morphing into a generic humanoid. Eventually they got retconned to be the cosmic "protector" of continuity and often failing at it. Marvel knd of had their own mascot wiith Forbush Man
Amazing
On Californian raisins every Christmas vacation my old music teacher would put on the Californian raisins Christmas she would make a little treat as well. I was also born in 1999 so didn't grow up on them like my mom did but I remeber them just due to the Christmas special that she put on before Christmas vacation
Thank you for sharing! Shoutout to the once mighty California Raisins.
I was born in the 2008 and I saw a commercial of the California raisins on the best tvchannel ever qubo, it traumatized me lol
You’d think that with the most recent reboot of Mickey Mouse cartoons (the version that Runaway Railway at the parks is based off) would have shoved Oswald in as a regularly recurring secondary character. One on a similar level, in my mind to ones like Pete or Clarabelle or Mortimer back in the 90s, where kids recognize the character when they do pop up in rides and parades and shows/movies but isn’t a big push. He’s a cool character but I do feel like Mickey did a good job covering up his loss back in the day and as a result they’re gonna be somewhat samey if you try to make him a star.
I’m so pissed there was never another Conker game, and he just became a Project Spark mascot. Which I’m pretty sure you can’t play anymore, at least online
1. The Hot Dog Spanking thing isn't his FIRST Cartoon.
His first Cartoon was "Poor Papa" from 1927
Conker was also in a book that I read who was a squirrel but was also forgotten about and therefore lost
i liked where you said "Bare with me" which sounds like "Bear with me" during the cub section
You spotted the pun!
Ending on ratmann sent me into some deep nostalgia
On the McDolands wiki it mentions the Grimace's species as "Grimace". This implies that there is a society of Grimaces like us.
Does Everything have a wiki now
@@freddyspaghetti1912 Yes
Grimace has a birthday shake and you drink it and dies
So glad UA-cam recommended this video. You’ve earned one more sub towards 100k.
Also wow the raisins just threw me back. We had one of the little figures! I didn’t remember that until now
Thank you so much!
I just remembered Conker existed Thanks to Scaredy Squirrel.
Anyone here after grimace’s returns for his birthday along with the 8 bit game of him launched with it.
Nothing will be more tragic to me than Scottie's Little Softie, the adorable fluffy mascot of Scotties brand tissues who was even the mascot of a major curling tournament. He has been phased out in favour of.....a boring Scottie dog.
They used to have promos where you could get puppets of this character and I have always been obsessed.
I would call these Forgotten mascots because they're not lost, just not used as often, if not at all.
I just found this in my recommended and I am now on a quest to get you to buy that costume
WE SHALL SEE.
yeesh you really start to see how many of these arent lost anymore
I loved the California raisins. I didn't know the creator but him doing the bunny for Speed Demon ✨✨✨✨✨pure gold!
My dad's had California Raisin figurines displayed in our living room since I was a baby and probably before.
Fun fact The California Raisins asked to have an ad in the movie Back To The Future Pt. 1. But the final result was so disappointing to them since you could barley see the California Raisins ad.
The thing with my Oswald Obssesion, IS THAT I ACTUALLY USE AN ALTERNATE VERSION OF OSWALD IN MY CINEMATIC UNIVERSE AND IF WHOEVER HAS THE RIGHTS FOR HIM LOSES HIM ALSO IM ACTUALLY GONNA END UP TRADEMARKING HIM BY ACCIDENT LMFAOOOO
If you want another abandon mascot, check out Buddy from Warner Bros, he was made in 1933 before Bugs bunny and the company tried to make their cartoon similar to Mickey, however the problem they made with buddy was that... well..
He was incredibly boring.
Not only his personality but his design, he was just a cartoon version of a human, it was so bad that they dropped after only a few shorts
The studio still knows about him though and makes fun of him alot for being awful, hell the man even appeared in animaniacs where he proceeded to get continuously whacked by the 3 lol
Speaking of Grimace, I'm going get some McDonald's, you guys want any?
get me a whopper
@@zeepsterd I beg your pardon
get me a mcgrimace

i’ll take baby back ribs
i miss grimace. if grimace was also a species in the mcdonalds universe, that’s like naming a human “human”.
“Nothing Can Kill the Grimace”-Clerks Animated
I remember the California Raisins very well. I even watched their cartoon show for a time. I even saw them in a claymation Christmas Special, where they sing Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer.
Oswald dose return in a cartoon short on Disney+. It's not a series, but it's a start on a come back.
Too bad about Conker the Squirrel never getting a sequel, I would've liked to see that giant cave girl again.
Grimace was such a funny character in the McDonald gang, it's sad to see him gone.
"It's like the MCU of McDonald's" I know what to call it, the MCU.
That Oswald incident almost sounds like the thing regarding Ms. Pac Man, Pac Junior, and Baby Pac.
Now, if Namco wants to use them, they have to pay the other company to use them.
So instead, we get...
Pac-Boy, Pac-Sis, and...
*Pac Mom.*
Despite, that, though, Pac-Man World RePac was a good remake, imo.
The only downside was honestly the gibberish speak.
Walt lost the rights to Oswald, and the entire company said NEVER AGAIN. 😂
me, seeing the thumbanil laughing: haha, conker isnt lost!
*starts to think back on it, realizing he is*
i feel grim since its my favorite game
There’s an alternative universe where Oswald is the face of Disney and Mickey Mouse is the lost character
What a bizarre timeline.
I feel the Grimace entry was just a bit before its time, mostly because of the big push McDonald's is doing with the whole "Grimace's Birthday" campaign.
13:34 Well that one didn't age quite so well...
I'm very excited to see Oswald back in Disney's hands. He's such an important part of Disney history
You know what? If Walt Disney just joined Universal, the Star Wars sequels wouldn't exist.
My mom made me watch that California Raisins Christmas thingy as a kid and they scared the crap out of me 😭 but tbh now that I’m older and starting to animate the animation is really well done
Minor note re: Oswald. Disney Japan made a 30 second Oswald short in 2013 as a greeting card. Sadly it's the only pure Oswald piece of animation made since the acquisition (though he has made background appearances). ua-cam.com/video/gYVitK2CIXs/v-deo.html
THANK YOU FOR SENDING THIS.
@@zeepsterd Only found it because this video made me go "Huh, they really haven't done anything with him since Epic Mickey 2?" and I went and checked. So thank you and you're welcome. :P
PS: It really is a delightful piece of animation, like a segment of an old cartoon. I'm sad it wasn't publicized more.
Finally, a lost media UA-camr who doesn't talk like he's narrating a car crash
Found this on my recommended and now i just gotta subscribe
I haven't thought of Project Spark since it released, yet in the span of just over 24 hours I've seen it in my games library and now heard it mentioned here. an utterly forgettably footnote from a decade ago, brought up twice for no reason
You attend parties, you don't tend to parties. And their success in 1988 "knew no bounds," it didn't "prove no bounds."
its weird how he talked about grimace and 1 year later we would have grimaces ultimate comeback and death
Suggest for part 2: Wubbzy for Starz. He was doing so great with Wow Wow Wubbzy in the Late 2000's, even getting Beyonce, was supposed to get season 3, but the producers of the show itself, Frederator, went bankrupt in 2011/2012, and Starz kept it fully for themselves, and did nothing with it
I vaguely remember that show-
Grimace had a return on September 25th 2022
Happy B-day Grimace!
The Beer God. There were a ton of old ads in the 90s featuring this ugly little stone Tiki idol trying to convince people to buy some beer or another in charmingly broken English. Nowadays he's almost completely forgotten, to the point that his only ad on UA-cam has disappeared.
If you ever do a sequel to this video, I actually have a character for you to cover. Mighty the Armadillo from Sonic the Hedgehog. He was originally gonna be one of the mascots for Sonic, but ended up being forgotten over time. Check out the full story about Mighty, it's a really interesting one.
I've heard about both The Noid and The California Raisins.
I had the California resin toys they were a lot of fun I think they’re like 20 or 32 little toys and it came is cereal boxes which is weird because you think they would come in a resin box
Always remember: corporations aren't people, my friend, and corporate mascots aren't your friends.
I swear, McDonalds is the definition of lost mascots
Grimace actually got brought back through a really popular meme so I’m not sure if he’s a Lost character anymore
I definitely want a sequel to this.
Same
I thought Evil was a title.
Like, The Bad Human, or The Wicked Witch.
So that was one Grimace and the one we have now is a different one.
I just go in random videos just because I love Oswald, but I learned about some more mascots today
Good to hear!
Grimace is forgotten? I never really knew Grimace was forgotten. I also find it funny that a music video from the California Raisins are included in one of the intermissions for the September 1990 Chuck E Cheese showtape.
I’m down for more lost mascot videos.
Before Covid a local McDonald’s had a sign for kids to meet Grimace on Thursday nights
