  • ARTURO GALSTER brilliantly reenacts Dietrich's "Black Market" as part of Marc Huestis' Billy Wilder Tribute with Edie Adams Live at the Castro Theatre in 2000. The song is from Wilder's A FOREIGN AFFAIR. Accompanied by Scrumbly Koldewyn, video by Ron Williams and Chuck Roseberry

Obviously members of this audience had no clue what this song is about. I came across this video while trying to find a good clip of Dietrich's version from the film - one of the best songs she's ever done, and a brilliant statement about Germany after the war. Too bad people didn't appreciate how truly good this interpretation was. I have no idea who Arturo Galster is, but wow, he certainly had Dietrich down pat - even so far as the subtle movement of the lips that was pure Dietrich.

Very well done. A great tribute to Dietrich. But absolutely valid on its own terms.

So happy to find some of Arturo Galster's work on UA-cam. (Don't know why I didn't check before now.) His impersonations were spot on, yet he never just dished out camp aping of stars. But Arturo's timing was what used to impress me the most. His buddies and fans still miss him a lot. You should have been at his memorial at the Castro. (Actually, I wish there hadn't been a need for one, but tragedies happen, goddamnit.)

She was great. Inappropriate laughter. But still, a great performance. A+

I’ll never understand why someone this beautiful is such a threat to right wingers?
