What is your recommendation regarding plant based calcium? I have also seen supplements containing strontium and vanadium?
Thanks so much, Dr. Christy. My doctor wants me taking a calcium and Vitamin D supplement. This information was very helpful. ❤
I’m so glad it was helpful. Thanks for watching. All calcium at Costco has vitamin D included in it - they usually do. Don’t buy calcium without vitamin D in it.
Thanks so much 👍🏻
Hi @DrChristy. I like the Costco content. Would a vitamin K2 or vit D + k2 video be on your list to do? That’s one I’d like to get more info on. Thanks
Great idea! All the calcium at Costco has vitamin D included in it (as it should). Vitamin D is so important. I’ve done a video on vitamin D previously if you want to check it out ua-cam.com/video/UW_YXYpPpwQ/v-deo.html
@@ChristyRisingerMD Thanks. I'm actually more interested in hearing your thoughts on K2. As I've heard it's important to take it along with Vit. D so that it allows the body to actually use the vitamin D. Maybe you've mentioned that in your Vitamin D video. I'll go check it out. Thanks again.
The evidence is mixed on Vitamin K. Research is still being done but I don't think it is conclusive enough to recommend taking Vitamin K along with Calcium/Vitamin D. Medicine is ALWAYS changing though - so that may change as we get more evidence. Thank you for watching!
Correct, @Michaell1026. www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC5613455/
Dr Christy Risinger,
Do you personally yourself take a Calcium supplement every day?
I'm thinking of switching to calcium citrate so I can take it without food. Since having an iron deficiency I've read how calcium reduces absorption of other vitamins. Not sure this is a good reason tho, cause the absorption issue is complicated & confusing.
My suggestion is to insert all of your foods in an app like Cronometer. By doing so you see which and how many of each essential micronutrient you consume.
I like this idea!
As a pharmacist, at Costco, I tell my patients that there's no magic in those bottles in the supplement aisle. Diet/exercise/healthy eating habits are best. Judicious use of supplements if necessary. A lot of folks don't want to hear the "logical" approach, and I've had a bunch of members get visibly angry at me when I truthfully explained that something may not give them the benefits they desire. One in particular comes to mind. Customer in a powered wheelchair, elderly, obese, not ambulatory asking if glucosamine-chondrotin-MSM will help with joint pain. No!!! That's not what I said, but they weren't happy with my recommendation.
are ya feeling alright christy??
🙏👍👍👍👍👍
None is the best!
Calcium from food sources is the way to go.
Nice way to plug up ur kiddny s with Costco crap suplaments
Hi. Thanks for watching. My intention is never to promote any supplements - simply to guide people who are going to take them anyway or who have been told to take them by their doctor. The absolute best way to get any vitamins and minerals is through dietary sources which is what I talk about starting at minute 04:01.
