    Hi everyone, Hope you enjoy this video with Sharath @building beautifully!. We used "North Sydney" and "Victoria Cross" interchangeably when referring to journey times to and from North Sydney. Some of the journey times by Sydney Trains do vary during the day, especially where interchanges are involved, so that did affect our timesaving estimates a little! Looking forward to hearing your comments!

      I think it is worth mentioning that for example you have stated that it took you 13min to get to Crows Nest but it will take just 4min on the Metro, but you haven't factored in the time it will take to get from the platform to the station entrance. I'd suggest this will probably be 3-4 minutes depending on how busy it is so would definitely be a factor worth considering.

    This is a fun way to explain the advantages of Sydney Metro, and I think there's going to be a major shift towards Metro when it opens, which will benefit everyone. I enjoyed your "heads and tails" route selection with the new opal playing card, which I can see a possible "building beautifully" board game 🎲 on the horizon. Maybe even a "Transport Vlog" board game called "Collaboration Station." Both will be a fun way to explore Sydney Trains and Metro network 😀. The 293 Runs Between Marsfield and the City as it goes along Epping Road. I think the Solution for the 293 is to Extend it to Epping to avoid Duplication with the 292 and 551. My Proposal is to Extend the 293 to Epping Station on Cambridge Street. With that, the 293 Will Instead Terminate at North Sydney Station. The 293 is an Express Bus that only runs in the Peak, The 293 follows Epping Road bypassing Macquarie Centre and to the Lane Cove Tunnel. Since Buses Pay Toll Roads, the 293 Will avoid the Lane Cove Tunnel to avoid Interference with the Hills BRT. The 293 will follow Epping Road to the Gore Hill Freeway and continue on the Freeway to Pacific Highway where it will Terminate at North Sydney. This will help connect between Stations. It will free up services on the 292. It will Replace the 290 Bus Route that goes via North Sydney to the City. That will be the Best Solution Because most people at Marsfield take the 292 to Macquarie University and take the Metro to the City. We should have the 293 running 24 Hours a Day between Epping and North Sydney so that people who live on Epping Road or walk to Epping Road to take the Bus will need to Transfer at North Sydney. It is Cheaper and Easier. It will help connect people to the Train Line. The Services will be Increased in Peak.

The comparing the trip by train from Chatswood to Wynyard currently 17 minutes per timetable with 6 stops compared to the Metro from Chatswood to Barangaroo with 2 stops and the Barangaroo stop in the middle of nowhere 9 minutes. By the time you get to Wynyard very similar. Difficult to compare correctly as different number of stops, and different ending points.

    Sydenham might be one of Sydney Cross Platform Interchanges. Platform 1 and 6 has no Island Platfprm while platform 2, 3, 4 and 5 does. If you go from East Hills to the City Via T8 Express. You can get off at Sydenham to Cross the Platform to Platform 2 to go to the City (Later to Bankstown). If you're on the T4 at Tempe and you want to go to Glenfield, Get off at Sydenham Platform 5 and go to Platform 4 to get the T8 to Glenfield as T8 Express will go Via Sydenham After Metro Opens. Sydenham might be one of the Stations in Sydney that has Cross Platform Interchanges.

    • @kazwilson425
      @kazwilson425 Місяць тому +1

      Yeah, I can see a lot more interchanges happening at Sydenham. It's going to be really interesting to see what happens between 4th August & Oct when the Bankstown trains & Metro are running in conjunction before they shut the Bankstown line down. And then subsequently next year when its completed and we go full Metro.

    • @TomHommus
      @TomHommus Місяць тому +1

      Apparently I've heard from many sources East Hills via Sydenham will be permanently cancelled in 2025, so the timetable after.
      Under more trains more services there will be 12tph from Campbelltown (+2 from current timetable) 6tph from Revesby (+2) whilst the airport line will increase from 10-18tph (+8).
      So it will absorb the +4 that will be additional services and +4 that currently go via Sydenham will be diverted via the airport.
      East Hills passengers can still access all stations via an interchange at Wolli Creek.
      So St Peters and Erko will move to East Hills line for one year, after the Bankstown line metro extension opens it will move to Eastern Suburbs line as East Hills trains will no longer stop at Sydenham

    • @Gary-vv5gt
      @Gary-vv5gt Місяць тому

      @@TomHommus I heard something where express and SCO trains will use the (forgot the name of the tracks, but its doesn't have platforms at wolli creek), express or something.... so all stops to hurstville will use the tracks with the platforms at wolli creek and all express will stop at sydenham instead. So i reckon the all stoppers to hurstville will stop at erko and st peters and express will remain the usual self (with sydenham being the express stop rather than wolli creek).
      And i guess the inner circle of the city circle will be purely T8 lines from central and its will spurt out as split services of ether T2 or whatnot. And all outer city circle trains will come from redfern and all will spit to the T8 to the airport right?

    I don't buy that arguement that the overhead supply limits the T4 to tangaras that Sydney Rail spins. In the old days we had multiple electric 86 class locos hauling coal trains up Como Bank - I would have thought that that would have exceeded maybe 10 commuter trains in itself.

    • @daveg2104
      @daveg2104 Місяць тому +1

      Both of those things can be true. Probably they upgraded the power supply on Como Bank because of the freight. No 86 class hauling heavy loads to Bondi Junction though, then or now. I have no idea what the current situation is regarding traction power, apart from the fact that they built a new substation (the Chalmers St Substation Project) that supplies power to the Eastern Suburbs Line (and Central to Wynyard, City Circle). They have been doing a lot of power supply upgrades.

    • @andrewrussack8647
      @andrewrussack8647 Місяць тому +1

      Passenger metro trains are very power hungry. Many MW are required for the rapid acceleration for around 30 seconds. Generally, freights accelerate much more slowly so the MW capacity is not needed. It does seem counter intuitive, but passenger trains need higher peak power. Energy is a different matter….

    • @kyletopfer7818

    I like the time savings demonstrated by your trip.
    I do feel the comparison are a bit off considering you are comparing a system that has been built up over the years to one
    with modern technology with very little human interface.
    I made the trip to Tallawong a short time ago and found it uninspiring,
    with nothing overly exciting about the overground portion and none of
    underground stations screaming "get off here there's something interesting here".
    I do plan to travel on the extension a little while after it is opened
    If only to duck across to the "General Gordon" at Sydenham for a refreshing ale

    When the Metro starts running all the way to Bankstown, I assume that Erskineville and St Peters Stations will be serviced by those Illawarra Line trains which presently usually don't stop there. That will slightly increase the travel times for some services on that Line.
    Interesting fact about St Peters Station: Although the Sydney trams on the "green lines" (Inner south-west) through Newtown closed in September 1957, trams still ran to St Peters Station via the (then still open) Eastern Suburbs system from Redfern via Alexandria until 1959.

I guess the change from T8 to T4 for St Peters and Erskineville will be after both the Sydenham to Bankstown extension of the M1 line (the Metro line’s new number) and the realignment of tracks for SCO intercity services to use Illawarra locals instead of Illawarra mains from Central to Hurstville. It’s not sure yet where those T8 services will terminate, but that route in the peak currently tends to terminate at Campbelltown instead of Macarthur.

If i were the government, i would like to see an experiment with the 190x of doing the usual avalon to narrabeen all stops and then rather than to go via dee why and usual route, its will get sent via frenches forest (following route 270) and express to cbd. Also maybe an promotion of the 160x to chatswood.
      I think if labor didn't can the northern beaches road tunnel, I would like to see some kind of conversion of the old tram lines (which is one bus southbound and other is car), to be converted into a pure busway (current bus southbound will be northbound and the car lane will be southbound, with a larger barrier so no crashes and the old platform 1-2 of wynard gets converted into a bus port, bit like bondi jct bus port). Cahill expressway get converted to some green roof or whatnot. But for that to work, the western harbor tunnel needs to exist. To me it Doesn't matter if its slower because the trains are double decked and harder to unload, and the lines have more stops, I will still always support the Men and Women working. The metro should be using the Tranport NSW voice by Taylor Owynns for the Door opening sound. And it should be "Doors opening please stand clear" not that other robotic crap. The metro shouldn't be on a long line if the trains don't support it. A metro if for short populated distances, not long ones like it is. Thats why the T Sets are amazing, you can actually sit down in comfort. There obviously weren't enough strikes because now we will see a bye bye to our T sets, bye bye to the jobs of hundreds. All so the lines can be converted to this Metro crap. We didn't need a war against our Train staff, we already have one in our buses after the state privitised everything. The metro marks the beginning of a slow process to wipe out humans from our transport, and also our fleet of reliable,Australian made trains ,and replace them with some stupid computerised crap ( made overseas ). The original piers of the Parking station were rather thin but were reinforced after the Granville Accident, fearing that a derailment under the parking station could bring the lot down on a train with consequences much worse that Granville. This is the sad reality of much transport planning and design. Engineers obsess with the mechanical engineering of the transport media, ignoring how well the routes and stations fit into the urban fabric.
    It is a shame that all the new stations are so sterile and bereft of services and retail despite the huge wasted spaces. There is a joy of travelling in Japan and France of being able to get a coffee and meal and do some other shopping in the actual stations. The journey should be the reward, tightly part of the city it is in.

    Sorry to disagree with the video but most of the time savings are actually on the walking part, which isn't really relevant in a lot of cases and the comparison is not quite valid.
    For example, the Central to Waterloo journeys aren't comparable because Waterloo isn't a train station - it's a metro station. What should be compared is Central to Redfern on train, and Central to Waterloo on metro: the difference won't be that big. Similarly, Central to Sydenham would be 7 minutes on both the train and the metro. Now the win isn't really clear.
    If I want to frame the story in favour of the train, Epping to Redfern will be 25 minutes by train and 32 minutes on metro.

The true saving is that ~ 9 minutes, from chatswood to central, with 6 minutes between chatswood and north sydney and only 3 minutes crossing the harbour bridge. The existing train is very slow over the bridge and perhaps could be improved.
      But the saving including "waiting for a bus" and "walking to a station construction site" are just rubbish!. Not helpful. Only you can know what your journey will be and it will probably change between days and different places commuters go. Just tell us how the train between its locations which should be much quicker on a 60km/h average speed train which is driven hard vs the 30km/h average speed sydney trains network.
