Merry Christmas young Graham. May the Lord bless you and your family in the coming year and always. A brotherly hug from Mexico.
Hi, Graham! I watch your content frequently but because you've forgotten more than I know about PCs I've never felt qualified to comment but since this was a build video I want to tell you that you put that together almost exactly as I would have! (Well, I would have the PSU fan down even with my Seasonic and a vented PSU shroud but I'm maybe a little obsessed with definite positive pressure and intake filtration for dust mitigation.) I used the Corsair case you mentioned and I Iove it. That NZXT wasn't released at the time anyway. Arctic fans are great budget fans - seems most like all their stuff is good - but I wanted pretty lights so used ARGB fans and it turns out I actually like the tinted tempered glass on my black 4000D Airflow. If I had an option I would have wanted less tint. It was wonderful to watch someone so knowledgeable build a PC instead of fixing one for a change! I always learn something from you! Thanks and Merry Christmas!
Happy Christmas! I have the NZXT H7 Flow in white with a 13700K system and more than happy as I loved the minimalist design. Easy to build in, looks great, excellent air flow, good price whats' not to like!
What a lovely last-minute Christmas present!
Especially with air coolers you might find it easier to plug the EPS cables into the motherboard before installing the motherboard - and then feed them through the holes in the case and on to the PSU. And if you want to tidy the GPU cables, you might also consider putting some 180 degree adapters on the GPU then routing the power cables down the back and underneath the GPU.
Have a great Christmas.
I've built a ton of computers but for some reason watched this whole video. I picked up several tips I didn't know about, like the CPU power consideration in modern boards and the glass treatment. Thanks for sharing knowledge.
Thanks for this thorough video. It's almost exactly what I want to build for myself in a few weeks, save a few differences. The case looks great to work in!
Very nice build Graham. I saw you in the Mike's Unboxing Live Chat and subscribed to your channel. You are also using the same CPU that I wish to use on my new Build. I wasn't sure which GPU I should go with, but you answered that question nicely. Take care. Cheers
Really good looking build! Happy holidays, Graham!!
Slick Build! these tips are amazing and will come quite handy when building a beast of a PC for my friend!
Nicely done showing the problems with Bios on boards that advertise compatibility with cpu's without informing they need flashing or how to do it.
Nice video thanks a lot, all the best for the New Year. Chris
Like your review footage as, one of you older vids, I ended up buying the XPG case and more than happy with it.
At 45:40 the bios firmware appears to have a build date of 6/23/2022. On MSI's support site for the "PRO Z690-A DDR4", the most recent one is dated 11/9/2022, and the one dated 6/23/2022 has been removed.
Great video. More like this please. Really enjoyed it, thank you.
Build and review yes, thanks for the content.
Great build video!
Hope you had a lovley Christmas too, thanks for this videos !
Tinted glass is actually cool imo, some of us don’t really care about seeing wires n lights everywhere
Exellent job sir, happy christmas and new year sir
Hey, good video and advice. I had to move all components (MSI MPG X570 GAMING EDGE) of my Medion PC into a NZXT H7 Flow because the RTX3080 Ti Vision OC I bought didn't fit. It was quite easy to do that with the exception that the motherboard wouldn't come out very well. It was sitting quite tight and I had to use some pressure while trying not to break it. Fortunately I checked that all fans were operating. The radiator fans weren't moving, then I found out one of the pins in a plug was bent. For the GPU I used a support stand just to make it safer. I wore an antistatic armwrist the whole time I touched the components. With 4 x 140mm (plus two radiator fans) you can feel quite a cool airflow while sitting next to it.
Well that was a relaxing computer build to watch!
Your video is timely. I have spent the day re-housing my 5 year old PC in a Fractal Torrent. The case is totally overkill for my needs. A Corsair 400D would have sufficed, and I did consider it, along with several others. But, I could not resist the torrent. Your tip on polishing the glass is especially timely as I have not yet pulled the film off, as their are a couple of teething issues that I want to fix first.
One was my fault - I muddled the power and reset switches, despite checking the pinout first. But, the main problem I have is that I wanted to add a Corsair Commander Pro to give independent fan control, as well as some extra thermal sensors. Sadly, it does not work correctly with my motherboard. Apparently, there is a USB compatibility issue, and the fix is to add an NZXT internal USB hub, which is on order. Meantime the compro is working intermittently.
I am long term disabled, having previous run my own computer repair business (10 years ago). I am updating my knowledge with a view to building a completely new PC for myself in a year or two. Part of the reason for using the torrent was to give myself excess space to build in, so that I didn't have a fight and could do it on my very limited energy reserves.
My needs are for a silent, black computer - I live in bed with lights off. For me, maximised airflow is the best way to get a quiet PC. I have not quite achieved silence, I can hear my supplemental hard disc whining slightly. But, minimal fan noise is a joy after my previous case, which looked really nice at the front, but being a 2003 Cooler master, had zero air flow and old fans.
Yea, I love the Torrent, but it doesn't carry the usual advantages of a big case. Difficult to work in considering its size! I hope you enjoy it non the less!
I have been buying all the previously expensive non mesh cases and putting holes where the fans are.
If you do it right it can look really professional.
My favorite case so far is the MSI sekira 500p. I wish i could find 500g under $150
Doesn't take much to drill some tiny holes with a stencil.
Great entertainment for x-mas day watching this while cooking turkey dinner with some JD. Merry Christmas Graham and everyone.
How did the turkey turn out?
@@trollmeister69 awesome, turkey crown.
Wow that looks very nice. Merry Christmas Graham
Nice build. Merry Christmas 🎄⛄
Love the practical demo of why it's a good idea to plug in cables first (although the BG music vol was a tadge high at this stage)
Yea I did most of the edit on speakers - I should've done a mixing pass on headphones afterwards, but it was christmas eve and I wanted to get it finished 😅
@@Adamant_IT in which case you're excused & Nadiolig Llawen :)
I have the lancool 2 mesh and because of the airspace u can make the fans go really quiet and still push a good amount of air. The loudest thing in my case is the psu best purchase I have done
Very similar to the Corsair 4000/5000/7000 series cases. I used the 5000 case for my daughters build and largest AIO on top is 360. I used the 7000 for mine and it fit a 420 (on top) with room to spare!
I always grab a $1 pack of 5 Tooth Brushes at the dollar store. They are great for cleaning RAD's and other heat sinks. I have a really strong duster and it still doesn't do the job as well as a good brush.
3:58 - I have a Fractal Design R6 which I needed as it has a cradle for my essential CD-ROM drive. Plenty of space if you deal with the various bits of the case wisely, & surprisingly cool. But heavy as lead...
Indeed. I guess the case manufacturers think we have all decided to dispose of our CD's & DVD's. I've got a case similar to yours so that I could install an optical drive.
In fairness, the vast majority _have_ ditched optical media. But there's a few hold outs. Phanteks have a few cases with 5.25" bays. I really want to take a look at the Fractal Pop, which also has optical bays, whilst being a 'modern' style case.
@@Adamant_IT And I forgot to say Happy Christmas, Graham!
Hi, I really liked the explanation of your NZXT case, which is now among my cases for my next build, the other one is a Kolink Observatory Z Mesh ARGB, I would like your views on this one. I am an electronics engineer from the 1970's now retired. I have built thousands of machines in the 1990's and 2000's. but now I just do the odd one. I try to keep up with the latest parts but lagging behind a bit which is why I like your videos which explain quite well. Last machine I build for myself was a Ryzen 3700X with a AMD 5500 graphics card over a couple of years ago now.
Keep up the good wook.
Haven't looked at any Kolink stuff yet. The build quality of it won't batch the bigger names like NZXT / Corsair, but at a glance, the Observatory Z looks like a nice big case - definitely one for people who like a lot of front I/O!
What an awesome video! I have used this one to build a PC for myself (since I can afford one now :D) and am using the same case, CPU, and GPU. I am using the Z790 D5 Plus with Corsair vengeance 3600Hz DDR5 RAM. I will be using my previously used NVMe card with windows on it - is this an issue? I have read contrasting comments on google and am unsure what to do. Do I buy a new NVMe card and use my previous one as a secondary one? Or will it be a seamless startup if the setup is done correctly? I also have a question regarding the bios software - do I need to download and 'update' the BIOS? I am not sure what version of software will be installed on the MOBO, and if it generally makes a difference if mine is 1 or 2 patches older.
The innuendo's in this had me spitting my beer out! "Just pull it off, it's quite stiff.... I've got a big one somewhere!" LOL
Love the content you make!
Merry Christmas everyone!
Thank you.
I like it!
Anyone know why only one of my USB ports work on top of my case (H7 base model) the power button and right hand side USB cable work normally, the rest including USB C and aux port don't work. Not sure what to do.
One of my main gripes about computer cases today is the trend of putting all the ports and switches on the top of the case. I guess these manufacturers have not heard of dust accumulating
I'd call that convenient, plus a little dusting of the case is not really that hard :)
@@Rookie_Matt With the ports on top it is really not good for the leads that are plugged in as they will get bends in them as gravity tends to pull them down. Case manufacturers really don't seem to put much thought in the functionality of their cases. I bought a top of the line Be Quiet Dark Base 900 Pro case that while looked fantastic, was incredibly difficult to assemble and disassemble. I no longer use that case.
My 5 year old pc is never dusted and no problems so far..
@@williamjones4483 Agree, I had to 3d print a janky cable holder that relieves stress from the cable hanging down. I guess after-market 90-degree fittings may be another solution.
@@williamjones4483 Skill issue
Hey Graham. Here’s some info on cases to help you get back into building. It’s all I do. No repairs. So I utilize a plethora of different cases in my builds. This is copied and pasted from my reply to a recent “Gamers Nexus” video on the Hyte enclosures.
There seems to be many cases with the usb ports in the “kick” area. I personally don’t like them on the bottom for this reason. I snapped off my 20 year old “air mouse” usb receiver in one of these cases. It was the best mouse I ever owned and you could use it in the open air. It was a revolutionary mouse that functioned flawlessly. Broken because of a bottom usb. Sad 😔 As for cases I personally like building in any of the Corsair cases because of their spacious interiors. NZXT also has some very aesthetically pleasing designs with much improved airflow over earlier designs. My present build will be in a Phanteks Eclipse P600s all white with wireless fans, a 5950X and a 3090 graphics card. Looking forward to benching this build. On the down side of cases IMO are any of the Rosewill offerings. They need much improvement with how their glass side panel is secured and they don’t provide you with even one extra side panel screw. They are very easy to drop and lose because of how short the threaded part is. Also, one of their major flaws (which I pointed out to Rosewill) is their included fan controller. To date in our small area, two of these controllers have melted down in exactly the same manner and almost caused fires in both instances. Had the owners not been home and smelled the burning plastic…….a disaster could have ensued. Upon investigation by myself (Tech Luvn) and Geeks Computers we initially thought the molex power connector was the problem but the only melting of plastic was within the controller itself in both cases. I won’t use these cases again until this problem is resolved. Once is just a freak one off thing………but twice in exactly the same manner in a small geographic area is a definite problem.
On the inexpensive side, the Deepcool ATX RGB case has decent aesthetics with a very nice addressable RGB light strip in the front and addressable rgb for the front panel power/usb/sound output area. Excellent for night use so you don’t have to feel your way into the top usb slot.
Other notable cases that are aesthetically pleasing and easy to build in are the Corsair 220T RGB Airflow, Asus GT301 with its well thought out front straps, Coolermaster Masterbox MB320 ARGB, and, Coolermaster TD500 Mesh.
On the ITX side there is the wonderful Coolermaster Masterbox NR200. Full mesh side panels provide excellent airflow in this small case. Screwless panels for easy access and no tempered glass. Specifically for ITX motherboard and SFX power supplies. Strong , quality metal panels and its easy disassembly with only a few screws make this case a pleasure to build in. No problem installing a triple fan graphics card either. A very well thought out case by Coolermaster.
Another downer of a Case is the Antek DP31. I absolutely hated building in this case and I have the scrapes to show for it. Just an all around cheap (not inexpensive, cheap) piece of garbage that I will never build in again. I despise this case sooooo much that I am considering moving all the components to a new case as soon as my hands heal and then crushing it with a sledgehammer so nobody else has to endure building in it. Its one saving grace is the hinged tempered glass side panel which I believe all cases should have so we can do away with these rubber grommets where the tempered glass is secured.
It must be noted that Rosewill (who I believe are owned/affiliated with NewEgg) did respond to our melted controller by providing us with a complete fan kit for each case after being made aware of what might be a huge problem. So kudos to Rosewill for that.
These are the most memorable cases that come to mind……….both good, bad, and really bad. It also must be noted hat inexpensive cases use paper thin metal panels…..and…..long term……that won’t be good. These cases achieve rigidity once all components have been installed. They do have a place in budget builds…….but choose wisely is the order of the day.
In respect to all of the above cases, my absolute favourite is the ITX Coolermaster Masterbox NR200. A beefy little sleeper.
Merry Christmas Graham
Favorite case of all time the coolermaster haf x the best case for cable management has been either the nzxt s340 or the new Corsair 4000d
Happy Christmas to all
Great video, i enjoyed that one
Very good and informative video. I also like your calm and clear tone of voice. A breath of fresh air in todays climate of hyperactive screaming youtubers. Thanks! 👍
its one i would need to make space on the desk for . So many holes and fans would suck in a lot of short dog hair quickly . Oh and dust Bunnies. The Bios Update at the end would be a good search feature to label the video with for gamers looking for advice
I just built this exact build last week with a 4090 FE!
what cooling system did you use?
thanks in advance
this or corsair 4000d or 5000d ?? which one is better noise levels and cooling and desing quality ?
Does the vertical cable cover create tubulences that are worth mentioning?
I have a H710 that I used for my system but after a year or so the power button assembly slowly died over the course of a few months so that the system didn't turn on anymore and there didn't seem to be an easy way to fix it. Shame really, the case itself is totally fine but without the functioning button I now just have a useless heavy box sitting around.
is there a rate or certain amouny one can charge for putting together a computer?
I would be very interested to see you do a build or at least a review on the new Montech Sky Two case
Merry Christmas!
At 33:45 - what product are you using to pre-treat the glass panel? Is it an anti-static spray or something else?
Generic multi-surface furniture polish.
Window cleaner if you need to clean dirt and grease off, furniture polish to protect it afterwards.
Merry Xmas, Graham.
Great vid from start to finish nice big case could do with better lighting in it like rgb fans.
TY for the vid. What song is playing?
Did you do a fresh windows install? Or can you use the old windows prior.
Merry Christmas Graham. 🎄 Love your build videos. 💖
That top is better than the 4000D but is the front mesh magnetic?
Happy Christmas Adam.
(Graham) lol
you should plug both EPS connectors if the board has them, it was shown that 2 EPS deliver a more stable / clean power to the CPU compared to just one - it's not just about how much power can one connector deliver
do with this information what you want 😉
as a side note: on my 13700K I replaced the Intel ILM with a LGA1700 bracket from Thermalright - really easy to install
ive got my 8 pin EPS cable hooked up but not the 4 pin, i saw on another video its not required unless youre overclocking, which im not doing. would your recommend installing it anyways?
@@Lewdacris916 It's not required but I would do it anyway. More cables = more stable power delivery, more evenly distributed load across the cables.
@crylune yeah I'm using a cable mod kit, custom individually braided cables so I had to order a 4 pin EPS from the manufacturer. I installed that and a 3rd cable for my graphics card, it's got 3-8 pin cables connected, power hog
you can buy it on amazon intel ilm frame for 12-13 gen intel
For some reason I never enjoy watching those kinds of videos where people build pcs. I love ur other stuff though one of the most informative channels
Graham, i have a 12400k i5 CPU installed at a Gigabyte B660M Aorus Pro (DDR4).
The CPU has a 8+4 pin at this board, i used to have it populate with my old EVGA 750W Bronze PSU.
I got a Seasonic 750 gold, but it only have 8 pins for the CPU, it's working fine without the extra 4pin.
I do think my CPU is weak and don't support overclock, but will it be fine without the extra 4 pin cable?
Also i'm glad you are back fixing and building desktops on videos.
Yea no problem, it's only the top i7 or i9 CPUs where you might start pushing a single 8pin too hard.
@@Adamant_IT Thanks for the feedback.
Happy new year
Ah a Christmas Eve upload. Bless the Lord.
I'm using the new Lian Li 216. Excellent air flow.
A couple of times some cases call for a 280 rad up top but there is no way, as soon as you put anything up there there is no room for the motherboard with the ram and heat sinks for the CPU and chokes you can just forget trying to plug a fan into a header up there! Why would they say there is room and it would work?
Can I ask you a question? Does the name of your channel AdamantIT have any connection to the 80's pop band Adam and the Ants? Great content Graham my favourite tech channel.
I always test mobo, CPU and RAM combination outside the case before doing the actual build.
The Issue with passively cooling that psu and letting the heat rise is that your pushing more heat onto the graphics card. having the psu fan facing down allows for the fan draw in air and vent the hot air out the back of the case.
If the passive heat from the PSU is having an adverse affect on the GPU, there's something seriously wrong with the case airflow.
PSU is only going to be knocking out like, 50-100w of heat at most, and it's fan is going to kick on by that time anyway.
nice one adam
happy new year 🎉
good one
Merry Christmas
great job, could we get the benchmarks after the hollidays?, 🥂 Happy Hollidays
Always test before putting in a case.
What screwdriver is that?
Is it worth the effort to pull an old AIO apart, clean it out, and split the components as if you were composing your own water cooling setup? Add a small reservoir and re-fill.
It's not that difficult to refill an AIO, no, so you can definitely bring them back to life. I don't think it's worth it economically [as a repair shop] but on your own stuff, you could potentially keep it going if it's a good cooler.
yess finally a new vid
I'd say the aftermarket contact frame is probably a good idea on a 13600K too but not required.
12700K/12900K/12900KS/13700K and 13900K they are a requirement IMO.
also I would say that everything except the 12700K on that list requires an AIO.
can you make a video how to fix CPU fan error
I upgraded from a 5600x to a 13600k and it's sooooo much faster, booting the pc on the same m.2 1tb wd blue drive is 2x faster and games load so much faster. I use the same ddr4 ram also. Very happy with my upgrade.
It’s about € 140 in the Netherlands
You installed the customers hard drive with their Windows install, but doesn't Windows require the same motherboard that it was originally registered?
It will need reactivation. This might require a new windows key, or of you have a windows license tied to your microsoft account, that will follow you around.
Bios flash back is just a few tiny tweaks away from being sane! Like red led when it's flashing, green when done or maybe amber if failed?
Yea, failing that just some better documentation that explained "1. PSU switched on, PC turned off, "2. Push flash back button, system will check USB drive then switch on..." etc etc, so you knew what behaviour to expect.
As things are, the only actual feedback you have is to wait for 10mins and if it hasn't posted by then, assume it didn't work. Still, this is a system that technically should only be needed maybe once in the board's lifetime.
@@Adamant_IT also crazy how a bios update still takes as long as it did 20 years ago!
AM4 is terrible for this, they have _massive_ BIOS chips because of the sheer number of CPUs that socket supports. People slate Intel for changing the socket support every two gens, but AMD's opposite extreme was a double-edged sword.
I also am scared of BIOS flashback. However, on my last build for a customer, the motherboard didn’t support it and the provided CPU needed a newer BIOS. So I had to remove the BIOS chip from the new board and reprogram it manually. It ended up working out, but it added a lot of time and stress (you don’t really want to be soldering on a brand new motherboard). I’m pretty sure that voids the warranty. 😅 If only I had loads of old CPUs lying around to toss in motherboards that need BIOS updates.
Anyway, I really enjoyed watching this build and learned quite a bit even though I build desktops for customers occasionally. Thanks Graham and Merry Christmas!
You are just that type of person who I wish I could be friends with
Simlar to the Lenovo Legion T5 case.
That intro ❤
if they had flow on the one that went on fire for steve. it would have fanned the flames higher..
Yeah the ILM is crap im using the TG contact frame and the temps on my 12700K are nearly 10c lower.
Happy Xmas m8 👍
Not a fan of the silent fan profile. Prefer good cooling over reduced noise.
As long as you're under 75c, there's no benefit to being any cooler. You only loose boost clocks when approaching 80+.
So you might as well have your fans run silent and only ramp up if approaching the mid 70s.
What kind of spray does he use at 33:45?
Multi-surface furniture polish, the kind of stuff you'd clean a coffee table with.
Cool Music :)
I dunno, may ancient NZXT came with four 120 mm and two 140 mm fans stock. Granted it has very little radiator support and the 140 fans died years ago, but it could fit, theoretically, nine 5-1/4" devices. 😁
It also had some kinda unique looking plastic accents, although the years have been tough on them.
I don't have experience with many different models, but, from my limited experience, although Corsairs looks great, maybe better than NZXT's, the NZXT's feel much less "flimsy".
Personally, I get the appeal of this "airflow" craze, but I don't like the way they look. Some have managed to pull off some unique styles, but most look like clones of each other to me.
You are misinformed about the H7 Elite. It has top to bottom air vents on the rear panel to allow for sufficient airflow it doesn't just rely on the bottom air vent.
Thought your PC won't boot without anything plugged into the Cpu fan port?
Pretty much any enthusiast mobo will run with no CPU fan connected, because many AIOs manage their own fans. Some (particularly Asus) will throw up a CPU FAN warning by default though, which needs to be disabled if you don't intend to use the CPU fan header.
@@Adamant_IT I have an AIO and an Asus motherboard. I connected the stuff to the cpu fan header to avoid the error
remember back in the day when you bench tested a system before you went ham? Good times.....
