Thanks for this tour of Woodstock. It really does have a big hippie feel. I definitely want to check this out one day when I can make it up to upstate New York. I hear there are really good hiking trails in the area as well. Also, thanks for showing the Buddhist temple. That was truly beautiful and meditative.
Regarding the 1990s Woodstock festivals. 1994 was by far the closest to the actual Woodstock, held nine miles away in Saugerties. It had an eclectic variety of music along with the contemporaneous acts of the 90's. It got a bit out of control when 300k people showed up but the vibe was still good overall and we had a good time. The 1999 festival was held two hours northwest at a former air force base in Rome, NY and devolved into a real mess, culminating in a riot. People can google for specifics. I'm glad I passed that one up.
@@ProjectGaiaTravel it was a good time. I was 19 prime age for the festival. MTV rented out the property I lived on. I got to meet a lot of artists & I had the advantage of all the creature comforts of home. However @ the same time I had a paranoid feeling of having to constantly guard my home & possessions. I couldn't party too hard because of it, I had to stay alert.
This video is spot on!! I am looking forward to visiting the monastery! And my dog and I LOVE Early Terrible!! Such a great place…dogs welcome inside…even on the couch! ☮️💗🎶🐾🌟🌻
I'm glad you've enjoyed the video. Please let me know if you have any questions about any of the places visited in the tour, and yes Early terrible is a unique place and the whole Woodstock is amazingly dog friendly. Thanks for watching.
If you go up to the monastery and are in decent shape then I recommend doing the couple mile hike beyond it to the top of Overlook Mountain. You'll get a great view of the surrounding mountains, across the Hudson Valley and into CT and MA. A fire tower that you can climb if it's in season and you'll pass the ruins of the old Overlook Mountain House. If you want to hike further you can descend to Echo Lake which is in what they now call the Indian Head Wilderness Area.
Great video! My favorite little town! I live about an hour North from Woodstock. In the Spring starting in April and ends end of October before it starts to get dark out early, they have a Drum Circle in town every Sunday from 4-6 PM. It's a lot of fun. I will be down there in a few weeks with my friend Jennie to see the holiday decorations on the stores. Thank you for this great video. Peace and Love always! 😃☮
I live outside of Woodstock and have been in the area for twenty years. This is a lovely, heartfelt, and accurate guide to our sweet little town. Thank you. Please visit. You might find a home.
@@Harry_PP030 Enjoy this lovely little town! (while listening to The Band's music.) If you have time, drive up to Big Pink and see this iconic house. (while listening to The Basement Tapes, of course)
Thanks for the tour of this super cool hippie town. I agree with you, I love how they just seem unbothered by the worries we encounter. Maybe the hippies have the right idea while we’re all worried about houses, things, and jobs. We can really take a page out of their book.
The hippy vibe is illusory. Woodstock is full of wealthy New Yorkers with their second and third homes. There’s lots of attitude. I live nearby and tend to avoid it. A rather unfriendly place I find. At least there are a couple of places to hear live music.
Also if ya dig this on Woodstock youtube 😀 you may enjoy the song " Most of All " By Glenn Kaiser and Where Roses Grow Live by Rez Band Awesome songs check them out. I remember hearing the song by Led Zepp " In My Time of Dyin " during my drug years and made me think about death and Jesus. Then a hippy friend that dug Jesus told me more of Jesus love and forgiveness and how I could also know Jesus love. So in 1981 I cried out to Jesus and wow man He came into my life and I had and have so much joy and peace and now know that through Jesus when I die I will be with Him in Heaven. Hey Jesus loves each of you also and yall can know Him if you are at all open. Just cry out to Him and a good question to ask yourself if you were to die today would you go to heaven ? And if yes why ? To find out more please read the Gospel of John in the Bible or check out the movie on UA-cam. 😀
Believe it or not. Woodstock also host one of the oldest golf amateur/professional tournaments in U.S. prestigious in history since 1932. Some of the great names in history played there. So not only famed I'm history of music but golf. Kind of crazy...
Good to note and thanks for the tip. I'll have to look into it, because sometimes the drive is long. Thanks for watching and please subscribe if you haven't already for tours around the world.
Woodstock, NY is not a hippie mecca. It is an Arts Colony since the early 1900's. This video is commercial bullshit. This type of commercialism has made the town unaffordable for artists to dwell there. Heartbreaking.
Local people who are the true heart of Woodstock, NY cannot afford to shop at these commercially hyped stores. Nor afford to live there because of the overpriced rentals that this type of hype has caused them to be displaced. The maker of this video knows nothing about Woodstock, NY.
Nice video, but what is it with millennials and their exaggerated hand-waving while narrating?!! It reminds me of the robot in Lost in Space, while signaling Danger.
First of all, the town of Woodstock did not "host the original Woodstock Festival in 1969". The Festival was in Bethel - about 1.5 hours away. Next, you talked about the "old hotel off the beaten path" - the one with the waterfall - it is NOT old. It is quite new and built by someone who is from NYC who came in and tore down a bunch of trees and fought the locals at Town meetings. They won - of course. Woodstock has changed the past few years - drastically. It used to be a cool, quaint town. Now - and because of people from NYC moving up here in droves during Covid and buying every bit of property they could buy - it has CHANGED. It now has more of a NYC vibe - unfortunately. We, the locals, know. You who made this video - do not know. It used to be a Community where we all respected one another and gathered and took time to talk to one another. Now you hardly ever see the locals. Many got pushed out of their homes due to NYC "fixing up" the properties they purchased and then doubling the rent. Many became homeless. Even our local Health Food store, Sunflower, has drastically changed and become more like a Whole Foods - with concrete floors and massive LED lighting everywhere. Anyway... I guess it all depends upon your perspective.
I can’t wait to go here!
It really is a unique and interesting town to see. Woodstock really maintains its hippie and rock/alternative character. Thanks for watching!
thanks for showing my painting!! I did the Hendrix painting at Pearl Moon at 3:14

Thanks for watching! Woodstock is truly a unique hippie mecca unlike anywhere else in the USA.

True. I lived on site on '94. I'll add the Woodstock Sound Outs which were the precursors to to the Woodstock Festivals were held in Mount Marion.
I would have loved to go to Woodstock 94' as I am a big 90's alternative fan. Sadly I was 3, so couldnt make it. Thanks for watching.

Don't hesitate to see some great live music at Levon Helm's barn. And why not stop at the cemetary and pay a visit at his and Rick Danko's gravesites?

The best thing about this town is that it is "everybody friendly"
That is definitely true. Woodstock possesses a very welcoming environment- which makes it a very comfortable place to visit. Thanks for watching!

"Real" Hippies. Did not know there were fake ones. Lol

It does indeed but is a wonderful and unique place to visit in New York state.
Extremely. I avoid it like the plague.
Try finding a house that isn't owned by a trust fund hippie 😅
