    It looks like the torp cruisers in battle 3 all fired at the same battleship for at least the first couple of volleys. It's probably not a repeatable result as explosive torpedoes have a long history of being a hard counter to artillery battleships unless taken out before they can close distance.

      There has been issues with the combat computers since the Machine Age launched. I will need to look at it very closely perhaps with only a torpedo fleet vs an artillery fleet and see how it works. Thanks for feedback.

    The main flaw of the artlery battleship in the video is that Arty eats -50% dmg vs armor and their will always be more armor. in my BB I switched out 2 Arty for Gamma lasers. perhaps that and a extra after burner would help alot. Still very intresting resulits. I wish more Stellairs YTbers would do war games like this.

      It is a good idea to switch out 2 arty for 2 lasers, I love lasers. They probably don't make videos like this as it is very time consuming and also you just don't get the views like making meme videos or videos made to be funny.

    Ever since The Machine Age DLC was released, combat seems to be favoring fleet diversity a lot more. It seems to be beneficial to have a mix of artillery & heavy weapons with screening fleets that can tank enemy artillery and fight enemy screening fleets. I find that picket disrupter corvettes are pretty good at countering torpedo cruisers and fulfilling basic screening roles but I've also been mixing carriers into my fleets. Carriers fill the high-evasion anti-large slot role really well like the corvettes do at the end of the final battles and I've been using them 1:1 with my artillery fleets to a surprisingly good result.

      Yes, it has, and I will be doing a series of videos on it in the near future when I get some time, got a busy week this week but hope to fit a few videos in. Will focus more on mixed fleets in large battles, see how they go against more mono fleets mixes of battleships and cruisers to see which is truly better.

      The 1:1 ratio of carrier to battleships is how I've been playing the game since nearly release. Hasn't ever failed me.

    In my most recent game back ive had good returns from kinetic torps and autocannons on torpedo comp cruisers. Of course ive run away on economy compared to the ai so losses and mistakes arent as big an issue but i think ill be using them for a while as i crank up the difficulty.
    Edit: also armor, 1 regen, reactive armor

      Yes, it can be a good combination, Autocannons are very nice at close range, give the nanite auto cannons a try if you go down the Nanotech path, plus check out the New Ship Class, Nanite Battleships, I just did a video on it yesterday, very powerful.

    I would guess a fleet of disruptor cruisers with picket computers would make short work of any corvettes. Also I think the main reason for the line computer performing much better is, that the X-slot weapons fire more often as opposed to the battleships try to kite with artillery computers.

      Yes, cruisers are a good counter, but even better is your own corvettes due to speed and evasion. The Cruisers will take a lot more losses from X slot and artillery weapons while corvettes will evade a lot. Yes, line gives 20% more fire rate and increases accuracy from 85% to 100%, that's a big increase in fire power.

    It appears that the line computer is just the better choice, especially when up against other battleships. However, I wonder how a precog artillary computer wold do against a line AI computer. The precog would give tracking, which might make up for the lack of chance to hit and still allow them to keep range.

      Precog would probably help but would need to do an entire new build and setup which I don't plan on doing do soon as it took about 4 hours to set this system up to work with large scale battles. Line is very strong, but I will show battles in the future against fleets heavy in torpedo's that closing range with battleships might not be a good idea, or they might do well, don't know yet but I suspect Battleships staying at range might be best when up against cloaked Cruisers or Frigates using Torpedo's.

    Great video thanks a lot. Maybe you could offer some text guidance to make it look a bit more conclusive perhaps by the end of each battle session as someone like me who's not native in English might find it quite difficult to catch up. I don't mean to say your narration wasn't good enough but I really could use some statistics and key comments in text at key points of the video. Much appreciated anyway there must have been a lot of efforts you put into the video.

      Thanks for the tip! Ok I will try and add a bit more after each battle on what I think happened and why it happened if that helps. You can turn on UA-cam subtitles as well, it converts my talking to text, but you probably already use that.

    To be a fair test, wouldn't both Battleship fleets have either all nano-repair or all targeting computer/afterburners?
    I feel while small, the difference would be enough to push it one way or the other.. 🤔 Especially since what you're testing are the weapons, not the utility slots..

      I am testing everything; it is mostly how different designs can give you different battle outcomes. If you are using artillery compute computer, you really want speed to remain at range, you don't want to get hit so repair units are not worth as much. They also only work at 1/10th of the stated speed while in combat, so they help but how much is debatable. My goal is to test everything not just the weapons. But I can do some videos in the future and have done in the past like you say with A slots the same and Shields/Armour the same.

    I think the torpedo combat computer is causing issues- might try a different one just for better behavior

      I can give it a try in the next video as it was very disappointing, they did do a lot of damage, some 500,000 but not enough to change the battle, perhaps 2-3 fleets would have though.

    I wonder if stacking a bunch of neutron launcher artillery cruisers with full kenetic arty and giga cannon battleships would be a good synergy overall? or having a fleet of cloaked frigates (or torpedo cruisers) move behind the enemy battleships and bypass the enemy screens. would be expensive and micro intensive, but maybe it could work?

      Yes, it is a good combination, destroyers can be good as well if you want to counter enemy corvettes.

    Great video! What do you think about giga cannon and ww missile battleship instead of plasma?

      No sure on the WW missile battleships, I prefer more alpha strike firepower, that big punch DPS. Giga Cannon is pretty good, even more so against ships with a lot of shields, maybe not so much against human players as we tend to use more armor.

      Thanks. Yes same, I think I needed more of them so it was a good test to show that Battleships can fight at closer ranges even up against torpedos, but if I had 2-3 fleets of Cruisers with torpedo's might be a different story. I will do more battles to test all this out in the coming weeks, then how hardening may help to negate torpedo's a bit as well.

    Still curious how classic artillery work against the plasma ship with auto cannon/gauss in medium slot as the initial salvo and range difference between plasma and x slot allows some shield recovery which means plasma dmg is being cut trying to punch through the shields that are recovering.

      I did do some tests with no X slot and just artillery at the front 2 x L and the rest plasma, they got wiped easily by the artillery and TL fleet, was not even a contest. Without X slots it was too much of a disadvantage but I will try and show it off in a battle, perhaps with a few changes might work better.

      Sorry I probably didn’t phrase that correctly. What I meant is use the gigacanon with plasma core and then in the rear of the ship put auto cannon or other artillery weapons in the two medium slots.

      Ok, I understand now. Yea I can test that out more, pretty sure I did do that in some of my plasma videos but can't recall now.

      @@tachyonlance1969 I think you did that with lasers battleships only and the next video with plasma you selected instead more armor stacked along with ancient saturator but no change was made using a normal gigacannon with two medium slots auto or guass cannon.

      I prefer a mix of fleets, corvettes are easily to deal with by themselves, much hard if part of a larger overall fleet.

      @@tachyonlance1969 Maybe you should put your theory to the test? A swarm of corvettes vs a mixed fleet. One mono corvette fleet with disruptors and one with 30%% mix of pd corvettes with flak and disruptors. Might be closer than you think. Also you've still not done the disruptor battleship test; Arc emitter, 4m disruptors, hangar. 2 m disruptor and line computer as well as all afterburners and full armor. I've used it a few times and it works, though against AI pretty much everything does.

      ​@@robertalaverdov8147 Disruptor cruisers or laser cruisers melt those. I see corvet swarms ? No brain full cruisers disruptors or laser spam.
      Cruisers beat covettes , BB beat cruisers , corvettes beat BB. Mix is the key
      Thats why I always run different fleet compos in PvE and PvP , like 1 plasma fleet , 1 classic arty flee , 1 rocket fleet etc etc.

      I will, but I have done previous tests and videos on this topic, mixed fleet wins depending on the weapons of course. Even a fleet of missile destroyers with artillery computer, afterburners will beat disrupter corvettes easy enough.

      Problem is in these kind of battles cruisers take large losses due to much lower evasion; they get hit by the X slot and artillery first. It is more efficient to use corvettes yourself or destroyers, destroyers with disrupters, has more speed, higher evasion and is cheaper, faster to replace. Leave the Cruisers to deal out more damage from range or carry torpedos. Using Cruisers to take out corvettes while effective, is like using a sledgehammer to take out a mouse, when you can do it much easier with a standard hammer.

    the game has so many visually-great scenes, especially in your gameplay. why use some haunting generative snot as a thumbnail then?

      Oh, I liked the image, but sometimes I use in game images but often I have spent so much time making the videos it is just easier to find an image online then try and go back through countless hours of video footage or wander through random save games trying to find the right image. It is very time consuming of which I only have limited time to devote to making a thumbnail. When I see a good image in game, I take a screen shot, but I get carried away making the videos I often forget.
