    This week we are super excited to take you all along the entire process of designing a brand new product that is ready to be released to the market! We have a new in house designer, Spike, and an amazing ShopSabre CNC Plasma Cutter that we want to immediately put to heavy use. So we challenged Spike to come up with a bunch of cool shelf bracket designs, and he knocked it out of the park.
    We cannot wait to hear what you guys think of these designs and what kinds of changes you'd think would be cool for the second generation of brackets. You'll get to see every part of the process, the ups and the downs.

    I love the channel. Keep up the entertaining content.
    The next item you should sell is the dxf files for those brackets. Lots of us watch your channel for the cnc plasma content because we too have a small cnc plasma table. Watching you helps us learn...... and I think there is a market for selling the dxf files.

    As a fellow Plasma Table owner for my fab shop in California, I'm very relieved to see that I'm not the only one battling lead-in and pierce point blemishes, and small hole issues (out of round). (44:45) on the close up turn table shot. I have made/ designed many tab and slot items and I have noticed that there isn't a set amount of offset that translates across different material thicknesses. It's kinda nice to know that other Fabricators deal with similar issues using different software and different tables as well. In my cut software the table will jump around a lot more to different cuts on different spots of the sheet than yours did. Maybe you can set that in the shopsabre software to help with warping of the sheet. I have cut full sheets of 14G-18G with little to no warping.... (Side question: When will we see the new belt fed EZ Sander that you guys will want for removing dross on all those parts faster ? Does Vevor offer one yet ?? ( Walker is dialing the phone right now lol) good video, keep up the good work. 👍

    This is a great first product and at a really good price! I hope the sales are going well! A cheap test to see alternative markets (think etsy like places) would be to use white & more-pastel colors (photoshop? haha) and with flowerpots and stuff because outside your channel you want to be marketing to the wives (who make all the decisions on what cute things they want installed in the house). Husbands will be happy to see handmade-in-virginia when installing a sturdy metal bracket.
    My main tip here is, when trying e-commerce.. if things don't go amazing out the gate, dont get discouraged, and rather than trying to find a solution on the product-side you must understand that the problem you need to solve is getting someone to see an image and click on it. Then with solidly built items, you'll also get return customers. I wish you all great success, I really have enjoyed seeing your progress throughout the years with Lift Arc Studio.

    The brackets looks great. I'd use some panhead wood screws instead of a drywall screw unless you're going to countersink the holes.

    Also sell pretty screws to the brackets. Makes the BOM bigger, but all in one makes it easier to sell. Sorry about the first post, but I wrote is early in the film.

    Though 💡 smaller Bubble non welded kits. Able to use in Shop to hang things from the "Bubles" or store rods between the two shelf brackets.

    Install a small air tank next to the plasma cutter should help with the supply.

      I came here to say the same thing but also add in a check valve in the supply to the reservoir. I'm thinking an air tank from a semi truck.

    You should do some load testing on the various designs so you can post an approximate weight rating for each bracket style.

    Great video guys! One reason for an unwelded Kit would be to big is beginner guys a cool practice project that would look good and be something that would be useful.

    One thing you'll find out is that Enroute sucks... But try adjusting your kurf width and slow down your feed rate, I use those fine cut cartridges on .188" all the time. The first thing I learned when I got my Shopsabre was you'll get better cuts running 80-60% default feed rate. insert and delete keys on your keyboard while your controller is open will adjust feed rate without having to adjust your gcode.

    Market these as island cabinet corbels too. When designing my kitchen makeover I search for something just like thesefor support/asthetics for the 18 to 20 inch overhang on my island. BTW I am 73 year old grammy that has watched your channel since beginning. Your grp is entertaining.

    Pool acid will eat most of the dros, then I weld and blast with aluminum oxide to provide key for powder coating or paint. Fine cut tips work fine for 1/8" sheet but I do use the reduced speed fine cut settings for the hypertherm 65. The table I built has a very precise torch height control system and that can also make a big difference in cut quality. The water level also makes a difference....higher water reduced warping, especially if the water touches the sheet, but more of an air gap can reduce the dross. I have been through the same thing with running test cuts to figure out the variables so I can make multiples of parts. It is a process and even the big shops (I have talked to the VP of manufacturing for a major safe company about a tab and slot setup in 3/8" plate) have said they do the same for high definition plasma.

    You can "weld" 3d prints with a 3d print pen. Use the same filament and it sticks nicely

    Nice looking brackets! I like the idea of the un-assembled version for those of us that can weld, but don't have a Shop Sabre to cut them out. Stainless or aluminum versions would maybe generate some interest as well as incorporating some hanging hooks on the bottom of the bracket, although more expensive to produce. Would a 16" O.C. modular mounting system make any sense for multiple mounting widths of the brackets to allow movement for different arrangements of shelves? Sort of like a French cleat system in some respect. Just thinking out loud.

    Hey Tey , great idea for a different type of wall bracket . I was just pondering the idea of the horizontal and vertical pieces being made as one , and just doing a bend at the 90 degree section , than just a tack weld on the back side where the scroll pc fits .I think the scroll pc would be held in compression , and just two tack welds where you originally have them would be sufficient . Any way love the show !

    Make the 90 degree part 1 piece instead of 2 and bend the 90. That way the tabs hold it together to weld

    This is one of the most interesting segments that LAS has produced. Great new additions to the cast of characters and the results are nice. One suggestion from my metal finishing experience - try Benchmark's stripper disks. They make overall metal smoothing easy and leave a nice finish, though they do tend to shred if used on heavy dross or sharp edges. On the sales page, how about offering a 6" long #2 philips bit and maybe a 6" T25 torx for setting screws near the angle.

    Fixturing - Hey I do some similar design and make furniture to sell. I have a small wood cutting router and cut out ply fixtures with the space cut out to reach the tabs for welding. They last ages and take only a few minutes to cut out if you need more.
    As for welding I have shims of a known thickness so you put the right angle pieces in, put in the support bracket and then put the shin underneath and then clamp it to the fixture and fixture table.
    It can then be welded without having to move any clamps and it’s all square and true. It takes a few seconds to weld up one.

    You can totally "weld" 3d prints :) A soldering iron with some filament trimmings, or a 3D pen will let you draw a "weld bead" quickly if you're printing in PLA or ABS. I've gotten away with PETG in my pen, but it is pushing the temperature limit for my Mynt3d pro pen.

    Would making the back plane in one piece and folding it 90 degrees, make for an easier fit?

    Those fine cut heads should do fine. We use those at work quite often. Maybe investigate/play around with amperage and federate a little bit (more power and/or slower feedrate)

    Do not forget to build permanent welding jigs for the brackets that have the same tabbing. Maybe an insertable depth plate for the fancy, pretty part. Knock it together out of wood for each metal thickness - 5 - 6 parts each. I have been using Tigerform from Menard's lately since it is 11 ply and way cheaper than baltic birch.

    you can make the two pieces into one a cut like a + and bend it 90 degrees. just deflect it a bit and the brace can snap in

      and for the pierceings, usally you can select in cam to make prepiercing with a worn nozzle then use like a shapened flatbar on a rod to scrape the slag off. then change to a new nozzle and it makes a offset from the hole and treats it like edgestart

    When mounting them on a wall the option of which hole to use is nessary. In a brickwall you can't allways put the bracket over a brick with hole at the same height. Make the hole distance so the bottom and top is brick (+mortar) distance. Futhermore in plasterboard you somrtimes need to use all holes to make it secure to the wall.

    might need to change the lead in on the torch cuts as its still leaving marks in the finished pieces. the larger cutouts might need more of a lead in to establish the cut without digging into the "finished" side.

    Sorry but I was wondering, why the back plate is not made out of one pice and then bent in the middle to 90 degrees.
    Then you can click the middel pice in the plate.

    would you be able to make quarter inch wide tabs with a close fit that could be mushroomed out into the slot with a punch? and if the two bases were one piece with a relief cut they could be bent in batches. if your tabs are shorter than the thickness of your plate it could set you up for two to four really easy welds that have good pen and are hidden once installed so no extra finish work.

    Have you thought of bronzing your shelf brackets with heat and a brass wire wheel the same way blade smiths use on knives. In my mind's eye that would give the perfect old school charm to some of your creations!

    Should have given spike a bastard file and told him to get to work cleaning up the dross on those edges. Told him its step 1 of becoming a fabricator. After cleaning up parts like that for a couple weeks then introduce him to the angle grinder and/or belt grinder lol haha

    Love these. Are the bare metal clear coated for rust prevention? Any idea on weight capacity per pair?

      So the bare metal can certainly be clear coated if requested! We decided to leave the raw metal ones truly raw so that we could offer a discounted price and to allow customers to paint it whatever colors they see fit for their space.       Edit: as far as weight capacity, we will be having a weight test video within the next week or two! Keep your eyes peeled for that! But we are pretty certain the brackets will outlast any plaster, studs, or mounting screws no matter what you put on it…

    In the video it looks like bare metal is clear coated. Is it possible to get them unfinished? And I didn’t see the option to get them unassembled.

    Next item to add to the shop would be small wide belt metal sander. Oh and don’t forget to expand on uses for the scrap pieces of metal. I see a possible wall mounted coat rack using your scrap pieces for the hook portion using your tab feature.

    I'm only 10 mins in, but why not combine the flat bar section to one piece and bend it? You have the 90 degrees on the angle to reference.

      You can’t get a sharp corner with a bent part.
      Also the math to get the slots and tabs in the correct locations is more difficult.

      @@tilkphone I was just thinking because I remembered they have a hydraulic press brake. He could also add a radius to the gusset, and then the gusset becomes it's own fixture for tacking. Most of the commercial brackets I've got are constructed like this. The sharp corner isn't really necessary and is hidden by the shelf.

    Ink an American manufacturer. And you forgot one thing. Shipping. The whole process changes fast depending on item size, weight and or finish. My process is at first it's a free design. After I get that close I start looking at nesting on a plate. After that boxes. Sometimes I can use an in stock box vs a custom one if I just change the design a little. Every step is very important. Especially being a small shop. Thanks.
