First of all thanks for the vid as it helped a great deal with replacing those hinges… however, some (imho) corrections - 1. not the ALL the left hinges break - its the hinge that breaks that is opposite of your dominant hand - as my wife is left handed the hinge on the right hand side broke - left hand side was totally fine as I found out when replacing both. 2. I had no trouble getting both hinges from my local ford dealer - original OEM, sealed packagaging - $294 incl. GST. A quick look - there are plenty, new and used on ebay as well. 3. They actually do break because Ford isn‘t tighten them during service - they loosen over time/usage - ours had moved 5mm downwards scraping on the main tailgates paint - after putting in those new hinges I have a finger wide gap on both sides between the glass door and the main door - as it should be. Long story short - when they loosen over time they are inevitably also skewed towards a certain direction - which then leads to the disjointed breakage… I am led to believe if they’d be re-tightened every 12 month most breakages could be prevented… Anyways - thanks for the vid - had em both replaced within an hour….
You can get these now. I got a LH one from ford today. Checked the RH side and that is cracked as well. Not as bad as the LH but will get a new RH one this week.
Mine just went, on the morning we were travelling back from Chrissy holidays to home 😂. Flipped the bracket upside down as a temporary measure so should hold on the short term, just have to make sure I open the boot not the glass in the mean time. Looking up a replacement now.
hi mate had drivers side break on my terry . lucky me have a wreck here so will hang onto spare ..question for you !! can you open terry tailgate from inside , have searched car and owners munual with no luck. so what to do in a prang ? cheers jim
Is there a reason why it fails? (in particular the left side?) Is it that many people lift with their right hand causing twisting on the opposite side??
@@KaldekBoch interesting, thanks for the reply. just bought Territory 3 weeks ago, loving it so far. Might carry a spare in the glove box in case i get caught out somewhere. thanks for the video to! Stay well mate.
Mine is about to go, it’s hanging on by a thread and I’m nervous driving. Don’t suppose you have located anymore LH side ones, I’ve called everywhere. Checked wreckers (they laughed)….😩
@@KaldekBoch The one on my SZ is ok at the moment but looks like the whole glass tailgate needs to go up about 5 mm, but I can't seem to adjust it, seems a damn flimsy thing

Rock down to a wreckers and see if they have any in stock, or try eBay online. I picked up a set for $164 on eBay and $199 locally. Turns out the hinge is the same across ALL model years of the Territory. Because of this I tried my local pick-a-part place to take a look. All their Territories had the back glass removed which got me thinking that maybe they do that on purpose. Turns out they indeed remove the glass and hinges because of this issue and had three sets which they had removed from the cars in their pick-a-part lot which they were selling.
Not aluminium it’s a zinc based die cast crap often called shit metal which is really what it is typical for a lot of vehicle castings since the late 50s the more modern it gets the cheaper it is welcome to the eco freindly motoring industry….
Ah bugger. Geez I might end up getting so many views on this video I can retire. Actually I don't even know if I monetized it. As a PSA I probably shouldn't have.

It's crazy for such a popular vehicle and with so many out there that we are struggling to find new or used parts anywhere.

I have a 2013 and mine went about a year ago. I had it fixed for about $180 but my right one has suddenly deteriorated.

Honestly don't know. Could be poor engineering which just means that one is weaker.

Ford now has stock, now comes as a complete kit left or right. Hinge, top cover and gaskets etc.

Where you located? The Jolly's U-Pull-It in Dandenong had a few sets.
I read on the Territory FB group that you can buy aftermarket ones now
Yeah I've heard the same.

Sorry to hear it mate. It's crap when you need the bloody part ASAP. I hear rumours they're making these hinges again so try Ford and eBay?
Anyone know if a Ford explorer hinge is the same
Was thinking the same
Grant Walker Parts
Mine broke yesterday, but the ford dealer I use in Adelaide claim they'll be able to fix it. Will know later today. $140 for the bracket....
Please let me know here if that means Ford now has these parts available to buy. If so I'll update the video Info!
@@KaldekBoch Completed today, the part cost me $133.38, and 72.03 for the gas lift assembly. They wanted to charge $200+ for labour!

I reckon just polyurethane windscreen glue it down permanently 😂 Mine is rattely as hell - really annoying driving on bumpy roads.
If it's rattly it's because your hinges are going. With good hinges you can tweak the latch adjustment so it seals tighter and doesn't rattle.
@@KaldekBoch Thanks mate !
Ours just went 😫
I am at least glad there was something on the internet you could find and know it's not just you. I hope that Ford is now selling these parts again!
