Love the narratives on these race recaps. I've never run particularly well at night. It makes it quite a bit harder to judge your pace. Also navigating around all those people, cyclists, and dog walkers probably made it more challenging to you as well. You gotta love the cooler temperatures though. You keep inspiring me to work harder -- when I was doing my session this morning I was channeling my inner "Bester". Also welcome to the 35 age group! 20 years ago I was in that age category and things start to get more challenging. I am still doing this some 25 years later and enjoy it a lot, but unfortunately my times will never be what they were like when I was 35 - 45. Keep it up and can't wait to see what you do in 2025. Happy New Year to you and thanks for all the content this year.
Great to hear your breathing, it don't get any easier, you just go faster. Just started a bit of running and I sound like this! 60 year old ex cycle racer , had a hip replacement and thought I'd see if i could go from hospital bed to 5k in 1 run within 4 months with no training, 18 kilos overweight but managed 30.07. 7 months down the line , was attempting 1 jog a week and lost 7 kilos and manged a 24......I'm just managing to put 2 or 3 runs together now as my leg muscles can finally deal with running! Love watching the videos ,they inspire me to try harder! Still smashing it on the bike but now i want to see what I can achieve at 5k. Down to 84 kilos from 96 today , keep plugging away and embrace the suffering , next 5k in February 1 year since my first, it'll be my 4th go. Please keep me inspired!

I was shouting at those people to get you out your way lol
I am 49, got my first sub 30 on a flat course near our town. Then got sub 30 twice now on our hilly course closer to home. Keep at it. Mark Lewis videos help too. He is around 52 years old. He ended up at 19 minutes 5k but started age 38 just able to run to the next lamp post.
Lovely to hear guys and thanks for sharing! Never too old to start! Let us know how you progress along the way 👊🏻 I’ll keep making my content as informative as possible
Another awesome video, super dark🧐 just started my own channel and will be recording my sub20 attempt in 3 weeks when my training block ends. happy birthday nick🎉
So inspiring! I'm impressed by your heart rate. I did a 3K run this morning at a 8:20KM pace and my heart rate was 180+ on average... safe to say I've got a long way to go aha
I managed to get under 30 mins today on my parkrun. I've been up to 31 mins due to various factors and normally about 28 mins. I can only dream of doing 25 mins. I'll get there hopefully if I can shed weight. 🎉
Good run Nick. There might have been two seconds in it to match your previous time if it hadn't been so crowded. Now I feel you needed to cover some extra distance by taking the 'outer lane'. Also, 5K full sends look really hard 🙂
Always hard! Always worth it!! It would have been closer without traffic but I have a feeling I may have just missed it still. Time to get to work! 🏃♂️ almost ;)
Love it Nick.... But isn't Battersea poorly thought through with leaders having to run around the outside of slower runners or is the course measured from the mid to outer part of the track? 🤔. Keep the good work coming 🫶
What an absolute zoo that race was. My anxiety was through the roof watching this race unfold. People all over the place. Pitch black. Lucky no pot holes. Swerving around runners the entire time! What an absolute mess. That 15:18 would have been much faster in a race and on a course even slightly conducive to fast running.
@@justalilbester It wasn't my finest race, but it was a 10k Seasons Best. I did run my fastest 5k of the year at Battersea parkrun today, which I was pleased with, going sub 21, for the first time in nearly two years, and I got my highest ever age grade of 78.91%. (Age 63). I know the boy, the young Kent AC athlete who featured in your video of Battersea parkrun, and he was so chuffed to meet you, and his team mates were so impressed. Kent AC has a very strong junior team. You know you are influencing a whole generation of young runners, with your enthusiasm, which is why I am a fan, also. It might be good for you to do more with young people, chat with them about what they enjoy about running, what got you started running, and your progression as a runner (presumably you were into sport from a young age, if not running?) Make it a two way thing, let them interview you, and likewise you interview them. It might work really well.
Man, you are a beast with it. I’m trying to get in the mindset of being comfortable being uncomfortable, but it’s hard. What do you do to push yourself like you do?
@ thank you. Good job on that run. You made that look easy. I’m about to get out and do a negative split run here in a minute once this weather let up.
@ I got you. Just finished my negative split run. Did fairly well to say I ate a lot yesterday. Once these holidays are completely over, I’m going to work on more discipline from a nutritional pov. On this run, I kept telling myself to stop, but I didn’t. There’s a lot of hills where I’m at, so I tried to work it out where I did the slower parts on the hills, the faster parts on more leveled ground. I’m going to go back and binge your videos for sure. Thanks again brother.
Got my first ever sub 20 today! Thanks for the inspiration!
Awesome job! I hope to say this by the end of February. That will mark 1 year of running for me and I want sub 20 SO BAD haha. Nice job!
Can I get a…. Boom Shakalaka??!!
This is insane bro congrats
@@justalilbester BOOM SHAKALAKA!!!

🤣 that lead cyclist made it as loud and clear as possible. What a legend! 🙌🏻
Awesome running Nick!
Only just started my running journey at 53 and hopefully i will go sub 30 soon👊

Great running Nick!!! Would love to see you run Hastings parkrun one day 😊 flat and very quick on the seafront. Weather permitting 😊
I’ve heard good things! I must make a trip there sometime 🙌🏻
Great running Nick! I'm sure you will be back under 15 soon, there was a lot of traffic out there
Thanks mate, it was tricky to navigate that’s second lap. Looking forward to working hard to get back under 15
Well done Nick, and Happy Birthday. Thank you for the inspiration. I am trying to get all my Park Runs sub 30 now.
Thanks and go get that sub 30! 👊🏻

The effort is there, sub-15 form will come 💯
Great effort!
I really hoped to get good millage this winter since I had a lot of free time, and 3 days in my winter break I got fliping pneumonia. So thats lovely
Sorry, hope you recover soon.
great run Nick

great run at the nye battersea 5k 💯

Thanks mate. The course is measured in the inside line, so yeah when you go around the outside you end up doing a bit extra
😮the flash!!! respect sir
Thank you 🫡 thankfully I know Battersea park well with it being that dark ;)
I wonder about your Garmin settings during a race. Do you look at your watch lap pace or the normal fluctuation pace ?
I look at the lap pace (for that km) and then every time when it beeps for the km split
@ thanks mate

Great running! How and what software/ method do you use to record/upload post record the heart rate data and which app/website do you use? Thanks
Sure thing, I used Garmin Virb edit for this one.
Sir, do you get any cash price at park run or any kind of races like this one?
Na not for this one. Just a free entry into the next race 🤘🏻
@justalilbester ohh I see.... anyways all the best for your upcoming races 😄.. your daily viewer...!!
Damn, I have a 5k coming up on the 18th. I’m running heavy right now, but I’m hoping to drop 10 pounds by race day. I’m shooting for sub 20.
I think everyone is running heavy post Christmas 🤣 that’s what it’s all about right!! Good luck 👊🏻

v35 still sending 15 mins 5k's I can only dream of being that fast well done mr bester I can only manage a 21 minute 5k lol 😆
Keep showing up and good luck cracking that sub 20!!
Great effort nick. 💪
Surprised you didn’t have a front/back chest light on, was so dark there. Or do you think it would have slowed you down or hindered you?
Yeah, I like racing with as little extras as possible. Although I didn’t anticipate there being power cuts and the park being that dark
what do you use for hr monitor?
On this occasion I used the Garmin Pro Plus.
I’m 12 and run a 19:30 hopefully I can run as fast as you
If you keep training you certainly will be!! 💪🏻
Mind numbing fact: kipchoge goes 30s per km faster than this for 26miles 😂
And Nick is absolutely rapid
What shoes?
Happy new year, bro! 🎉
Did this one in the new adidas Pro 4 🔥
It's dark at 9??
Nice win. I just ran a hard 5k in freezing sleet, slippery ground and darkness. The one guy i passed gave me the motivation I needed to finish hard.🎉
