About Trailmakers:
In the toughest motoring expedition in the universe, you and your friends will build your own vehicles to cross a dangerous wasteland. Explore, crash horribly, use your wits to build a better rig, and get as far as you can with whatever spare parts you find on your way.
Welcome to the Ultimate Expedition!
Journey over grueling mountains, hazardous swamps, and bone-dry deserts on a distant world far from civilization - it is just you, your fellow adventurers and the amazing, jet-powered hover-buggy you built yourself. Explore, crash your vehicle, build a better one, and get as far as you can with whatever spare parts you find along your way.
Trailmakers is about building very awesome vehicles and machines, but you don’t need an engineering degree to get started. The intuitive builder will get you going in no time. Everything you build is made from physical building blocks. Each block has unique features like shape, weight and functionality. They can be broken off, refitted and used to build something new. Individually the blocks are fairly simple, but combined the possibilities are endless.
Expedition Mode is the challenging campaign mode of Trailmakers. You are competing in an off-world rally expedition with only a few building blocks to get you started. You must build, tinker with and rebuild your machine to progress. Journey through a big world, overcome deep gorges, angry wildlife and dangerous weather to progress and find new parts that will juice up your machine. The world in Expedition Mode will test your survival skills and ingenuity.
Sandbox Mode is where you want to head for an unrestricted, sandbox, vehicle-building experience. Here you can build anything you can dream of, and play around with it in the world of Trailmakers. It is a great place to test out crazy machines, and experiment with the physics engine. With tons of different blocks, hinges, thrusters and interactive vehicle parts - the skybox is the limit.
Trailmakers is even more fun if you play it with other people. Build cool vehicles and compete in mini-game modes with your friends or other Trailmakers online. Build a helicopter, send it to your friend, and shoot them out of the sky. Put two seats on a tank, and let your friend control the turret. As we get further in Early Access development Expedition Mode will also be adapted to multiplayer.

So it looks like the flap wings might be designed to work like flaps on actual planes, so how you can use them is when you're coming in for a landing, you activate them and they should give you more lift with greater drag, allowing you to land and fly at slow speeds significantly easier with single wing planes.
Was about to comment this but with a worse explenation so great Job on explaining it
Yes, They can assist take off as well. That;s why they are set up to toggle by default.
you should make a plane with forward swept wings like the grumman x-29 or the Nakajima Ki-43
And gives you enhanced turn rate but slows you down.

Flaps are meant to increase the lift of a wing, but also increases drag.
They are used for slow speed flight, such as landing and take off.
You can also get "flaperons" which function as flaps when lowered, but act like ailerons when raised.
Flaperons?
You sound smarter than my pilot grandfather!
@@jellynightthenight8796 the fact that I used to work on an airport doing aircraft maintenance, aircraft refuelling and airport maintenance as well as a spot of flying might have something to do with it...
I don't believe this holds true for Trail Makers, but IRL the centre of lift is basically in a narrow area in the middle of the wing, and you need the centre of gravity to be in the same location.
The tail's vertical and horizontal stabilisers under ideal conditions do not produce any lift in any direction.
The elevator and rudder change the shape of the stabilisers to create lift up / down, left / right to steer the plane, but don't actually contribute to the overall lifting force of the wings.
BTW, if you locked the controls of a place (not autopilot) and ran between the tail and the nose, the left and the right, assuming you are "heavy" enough, you can fly the plane.
Maybe not good enough to land it safely.
But there have been a few pilots who have had jammed controls with twin side by side engines who used asymmetrical thrust to fly and land. More power / speed and the nose will rise as more lift is generated, more left engine power and you'll yaw slightly which creates more lift on the left wing and rolls you to the right.
With the right design, you really only need two engine throttles to fly.
Again, expert mode only in emergencies please...
I'll be using them for downforce
@@35manning differential thrust is popular in RC vehicles for yaw, they tend to still use elevators and ailerons though. If you are using the thrust to control pitch too like you describe then it may only work for a single cruising speed and would only work if the centre of thrust and centre of lift are offset from each other with the centre of lift acting like a pivot point.
@@35manning
Can you be my engineering teacher?
You don’t need reverse thrusters anymore, just use more miniguns

Tip- Shift the propeller onto the wings (above smart cannons) as this doubles the props and is aesthetically pleasing. also you can put the minigun onto the underside of the nose for aesthetics and functionality.

Oooh, he could make an A-10 warthog. Actually, I'm gonna hop on trailmakers and do that right now
true and he cold use top of the seat cam for shooting on his current setup and the propellers on the wings would make it look really cool
I just want to say for anyone planning on using the last one- just note you need the space to land so the mini gun doesent hit the ground, also you either can aim up or down, and putting the mini gun is how to aim only down. So be careful in dogfights.
@@lavaleopard2961 do the guns actually have an aiming angle like that or can they aim equal amounts up and down?
@@conorstewart2214 I’m 99% certain, most likely because of other parts blocking sight lines, though it’s also likely hardcoded that weapons cannot aim downwards as easily as upwards due to the nature of large bodies on turrets.
When scrapman was making his first plane, i thought he was gonna put a minigun on the front like an A-10 Warthog

Hey scrapman I would love to see an evolution video where you evolve stunt planes and you rate them off of looks performance and how good their skill is and you can use the new aileron things to make your planes look better
You should probably give yourself more airplain wheels to make landing better, like 3 two on the wings and one on the tail

I can’t wait to try out this awesome new update! I’ve been following your content to see what this is all about, and I’m nothing but excited!
Advanced aerodynamics- you can slope your wings up like a V shape, this makes your plane less manoeuvrable but more stable, you can also do the opposite like an A for more agility sacrificing stability
I would recommend putting a propeller on your top wing in the middle for more thrust, then add some more weight to the back to balance it out.(Top of seat cam looks good in your plane btw)
the small ailerons are actually for the tail. and I don't know if you noticed but you can move your camera in first person
22:30 a10 warthog syndrome right there. Fun fact about the gun with a plane built around it, if the gun is fired for too long the plane falls out the sky because the recoil is just that much. Also can’t wait to see some A10s on the workshop.
I remember grabbing this game with my buddies on game pass and we had a blast, then when we got flying stuff unlocked immediately started making planes for dogfights. Glad they added more airborne stuff. Cause it was an absolute blast.
Hey Scrapman I think you should try your aircraft into a blimp kind of style as i think it would look really cool and suit the theme of the airbourne expansion and take advantage of the new blocks
That's basically how my playthrough ended up. A blimp airbuss for moving birbs, a fighter for air-to-air, a cruise jet to get around the map, and a speedster for the ground.
Scrapman should definitely make his own sort of airship with his new knowledge of the canter of mass and stuff, might i suggest a blimp?
Omg wtf is this is this a dream cause this can’t be real, scrapman is just dropping a barrage of content all the sudden it’s like I’m in heaven. It probably won’t last very long but I love the work scrapman is putting in his videos rn, :)
you can stogle the flaps to add more lift and decreas speed. its good for sharp turning, landing and takeoff.
@ScrapMan so if you notice you are missing a bunch of blocks, fly UP! Go to the center of the map and fly straight up until you find Sky Kingdom! Here you'll find all of the dispensers and tube parts!! Hope this helps!!
22:00 scrapman experiencing "A10 Warthog" Syndrome
i love these series, i cant wait for the next episode!
Its nice how the blocks explode off and burn rather than disintegrating straight away
Previously, the propellers _could_ go in reverse. They also showed yellow aerodynamics because they created a lot of drag when they were not engaged. I used both of these properties along with yaw control and an excessive amount of lift to make a very stable propeller plane that could land on a dime without vertical thrust. I called it _The Falling Leaf._
I love how he made a test to see what was stronger the propellers versus the thrusters and yet when he needed more thrust he went with the weaker ones anyway *^*
I'd advise putting small tailfins in front of the elevators, that way you'll have greater vertical drag in the tail, making it easier to level out after a sharp maneuver.
The plane not being able to use the mini gun makes sense. During both World Wars, they wanted to add mini guns to their planes, but the recoil would stall the engine. The A-10 Warthog had this problem as well, so they made the engine restart when the trigger was pulled.
Scrapman: I am definitely adding more Propellers to this plane.
Also Scrapman: Just doesn't do it and adds thrusters instead, which add fewer lift, which he found out through his own testing.
The repair system regenerates slowly on its own when you are moving, but it regens really fast when you kill enemies. See at 2:08 when you shoot a balloon down, the repair bar fills up fast.
@Scrapman, as an airline pilot and certified flight instructor i would love to give you a lesson on general aircraft aerodynamics to help you understand how different aircraft components work. It will help you build planes and will help my ocd when you do things wrong.
Scrapman do an vehicle evolution with the new airborne expansion update
Just a recommendation, add a couple of wheels under the wings for better landing. And if you have more power cores. Put 2 propellers on your wings as well.
What about 1 or 2 smart guns pointed backwards. This would help counteract the front facing guns recoil and take down a plane if its following you during a dogfight.
23:06 you can use the guns so slow down fast when landing in small areas so you don’t need to glide
@Scrapman, there was a loot chest with building materials on the island, where you found your last one. Not all boxes or power cords are marked on the map/compass. Kan and Camodo experienced that. They still could find stuff, that wasn't marked.
You can fire on the pirates and hit them even before they will start to fire back at you. The auto aim will come far later.
In under two minutes scrapman embarrassed himself. Good work
If you want to fight well in a bright red, multi-winged plane, you should add a third wing to it. You would be the red king of the sky, the red prince, the red duke, the red baron perhaps?
i always love campaigns that scrapman plays!!
I think the chirpo 'we need more seats' glitch at 14:35 was the fact scrapman was out of range so the chirpo rendering was only a few seats 😅
14:15 since these missions are made to work for multiplayer, and you can split the groups between multiple vehicles. I am pretty sure it works by counting the total number of passenger seats within a certain radius, and as you weren't that close, I think some of your seats were too far to be counted at first.
also for the biplane:
turn the minigun upside down and attach it in the middle of the upper wing, basically exactly where it is now but upside down, as that puts the minigun higher it SHOULD make first person view viable
I would recommend making the wings even bigger or making a lot more of them. the plane might not look that heavy but the speeds that you are flying at are not enough for wings that small. the reason that you lose control when turning is that the lift generated by the wings isn't enough to change your direction and prevent the plane from trying to re-orient back to its old heading.
Awww,... I did it again... got all the DLC because of ScrapMan!! Thanks :P Now I just need to find time to play!! Cheer and thanks for sharing!
12:10 "Pirate Scum" That damned Chirpo simply doesn't understand.
earlier i was thinking "why not bind some thrusters to the shoot button? I'd do that, and it'd look cool."
and now that im later in the video and he's doing exactly that, I am very happy.
That trick with the thrusters set to the fire button is really smart.
That plane is like the A-10, it can’t stay flying if you fire the guns for to long lol, scrapman built an A-10 in trailmakers unknowingly 22:51
You can use the raw thrusters with some programming to make them constantly boost, because they have a lot of power and take 2 power cores. It would be a rocket. Or use the insane recoil of the guns. That way you could run and shoot at them while the enemy planes chase you.
I like your work, ScrapMan!
That said, your airship looks like it could use a redesign. Was thinking you could set 4-6 balloons on each side, with the main body in between them.
22:25 Congratulations! It's a Warthog!
i thick the repair depends on if you have wheels on the ground or not, if your airship doesn't have wheels it'll still be counted as a flying vehicle and will have infinite repair while on ground, but if it does have wheels that touch the ground it will be counted as a ground vehicle and wont have infinite repair unless in a specific infinite repair zone or while staying still
Multiplayer dogfights are the best thing ever in this game, incredible update
The reverse propellers have been there for a while, in fact, I built my lil' plane v1 on the workshop with this feature.
Put the mini guns at the back, and facing backwards.
That way you can shoot behind you while getting propulsion from the recoil.
Tip: if you are about to have a massive crash and you really don’t wanna die, repair your vehicle about half a second before impact and you will have a moment of invulnerability
for the air ship put a gun on a servo so you can increase the area the gun can aim. that way you can just fly circles around the pirates and shoot them from the side of the ship as well as forward. turning the airship takes a really long time so putting the gun on a servo would speed up how soon you get a lock on. it's more controls to get used to but with enough practice i think it could be very beneficial.
the recoil slowing the plane down is like the Warthog, if you fire the gun too long it falls out of the sky
I'm prepared for the most massive planes in this new update, they are gonna be BIG
Maybe if you put the front and back Baloons on you "Blimp" on different buttons you could use that to controle your angle to better aim the guns on the front
Proppelers already had reverse thrust before. Also you can repair whenever you want with the trasform.
Scrapman practically made the a-10 thunderbolt 2 warthog... The gau-8 rotary Cannon has so much recoil that it Literally could reverse in flight... But not before it would start falling
we need longer videos about this campaign and you should add double propellers
Can you put passenger seats on the bottom of your airship? So when you pick up Chirpos they hang upside down?
Also: Can you break the sound barrier with miniguns?
"nOw i CAN uSE tHe ReVErse ON pROPELER tO sLOw dOwN"
the mini gun has left the chat.
22:00 He practically made a A-10 Warthog but less advanced.
this update is amazing! this brings a whole new feel to multiplayer, i can already imagine how much more chaotic it's going to be
This new update is definitely going to bring new community creations, but maybe you could consider trying out a community suggestion?
Day 138 of asking for a Multiplayer Monday in survival mode where everyone starts at the crashed ship with a craftbot in the mechanic station. Everyone has 30 minutes to build a vehicle from scratch, gathering their own materials. No glitches, thrusters allowed, after which everyone meets up and races their builds
Easily best update yet! i love how you can now look around in first person! it feels so natural! (as far as trailmakers goes)
The ancient area only had 2 missions because the first thing you did was destroy the boss blimp
The propellers have had the reverse input before. I've used it on many creations that were prop powered from the rear
With that recoil, now you understand why the A-10 Warthog was a plane designed AROUND the GAU-8 autocannon haha.
I am really sick right now and this really made me feel better.
There is one thing left to do: breaking the sound barrier with miniguns.
in truth, since you have the experience, a twin roter helicopter with pusher prop might be good if you can make it small enough, to zip in and around the rocks and pick up cores and chests.
If you put the auto aim cannons in sequence(say four firing left to right repeat) the “ammo” counter thing lasts for a very long time
I suggest you add servos to your guns on your balloon ship so you can target things without needing to tilt the whole ship
Fun fact for those who don't know. The Incas (the native tribe in most south america) worshiped an Earth and nature goddess called Pachamama (which literally means mother earth) and I'm pretty sure (I'm sorry if I'm wrong) the Mayor Pachi Mama is in honor of her. Which I find very beautiful being a latino myself.
i think the 3-point design for where the ballons are mounted on the original design of the blimb is what makes it so unstable.
Idk if anyone has said this, but the problem with the biplane dropping out of the sky when shooting is like the a10. The gun is so powerful it slows down the plane a lot. Which is why it only shoots for a bit. Then stops, and why it is only in a dive.
So glad they added the center of mass/lift indicators.
what you need to do is when your about to reach your destination activate the flaps, then you will be able to fly at a slower speed with better control
Scrapman the flap wings can activate ‘flap’ mode which grants you more lift!
this has been my favorite series yet man
Scrap man seens as you got thrusters for the guns firing , you can read both minivans cause 2 small make up for one mini gun , meaning you possibly could put ‘em both back😮
Scrap man has discovered the main problem with the a-10 warthog, the plain with the funny gun that literally has sk much recoil it will fall out of the sky if it fires for too long
The stalling of the plane while firing and flying is a problem the A-10 Warthog has to deal with, which fires in bursts instead of just continuously firing
14:12 I think it said that there weren’t enough seats because your plane wasn’t touching down all the way so it only calculated the few seats that were on the ground, idrk tho
Widen the wings another block, put the landing gears on the wings, put the miniguns on the sides of the fuselage and the smaller guns on the top wings, Have you thought about tilt rotors to help in landing?
you could stack the balloons on top of each other so you’re not that wide
I've never even thought trailmakers can be any better. My jaw dropped through the video
Its such a good update though I cant make planes lol! I cant wait to see the builds on the workshop!
you could put your guns on servo's to make aiming easier, i mean the guns are auto aiming but only in a limited range, with the servos you could do the rough controlls with the servo and then the guns will auto aim for the small adjustments, if you unlock logic stuff you could even do what (i forgot who it was) did in the recent tank maze multiplayer where the turret allways stays where you aimed it because of the compas block
The name of the mayor and it's location is a reference to Machu Picchu (the Inka settlement in Peru) and Pacha Mama (mother earth in the local language).
Hi Scrapman
I thought of an idea you may try to put on your build (if it works).
Detaching blocks from your creation to act as flares so the flak cannons get confused
I think some chests don't show up on the compass because the game intends for you to fly to each individual one it shows you instead of just filling your compass with loot boxes.
