Honestly that date sounds like a placeholder, both missing the holiday season AND being on a Friday instead of a Tuesday (physical release aim for Tuesdays so that missed shipments will not cut into the weekend sells, digital just crossed that one over).
Awesome coverage as always. I really do hope that the game is still not a year out. I honestly think that we need another massive RPG sink like fallout or skyrim. It would be sad if we have to wait another year. But it is what it is. But this was the best update I’ve seen in a long time you did a tremendous amount of work putting everything together and it is much appreciated.
Hopefully the fuel change can be removed in a hardcore mode. Running out of fuel and having to turn on your emergency beacon would be interesting. Get random people showing up to help or hinder you.
Starfield is not releasing 29 December, thats a placeholder date normally used by developers when there isnt a release date set for the year. XBoX wont have 2023 lineup entirely for made of 2022 delays, that would be insane. 2022 titles like Redfall and Starfield will most likely drop the first half of the year, leaving the other half for unannouced games. Its expected Hellblade 2 or Avowed to be 2023 holiday game, not Starfield..
Xbox have confirmed it’s first quarter everyone knows a dec31 is a holding date for that year, most recent interview with Phil puts the game in feb-March
@4:26 Ouch. Starfield's dialogue system is a reaction to and against the dialogue systems of Fallout 4 and 76. The one in 76 is especially awful as your character's attributes really don't matter at all. You can just change them on the fly or just get irradiated while wearing some unyielding armor. The 90 pound weakling becomes the intimidator by way of a wardrobe change.
I am trying to be cautiously optomistic about Starfield but a game being delayed a full year past it's original release date is rarely a good sign. Hopefully, the game is good once it comes out. If you know an exception to my concern, I would to hear it. I can only think of games there were heavily delayed then had problems on release anyway like Halo Infinite and Cyberpunk 2077.
My very first Fallout mod was a player home placed outside of Megaton that I used specifically to avoid Fallout 3's version of the Adoring Fan. I will 100% not be choosing Hero Worshipped.
I suspect that the fuel system was really changed, not because it was too punishing, but that they just didn't have time to implement the systems to get you out of your predicament wherever that could happen in the game. Because if your jump drive and fuel allow you to travel to an undeveloped star system, then you're still out of fuel at the end of that jump. So what happens at the end of that jump as opposed to anywhere else is what we need to know. The only thing that I got out of Todd's comment is that Starfield is unlikely to have an emergency refueling service like Elite Dangerous' Fuel Rats.
Marta!!! Thanks for tracking this new game. Yeah, once (eventually...) it's out it will be fun. I'm going to disagree on that date... I think it's a troll date. I'm really wondering how "big" is a planet. I'm sure it's not going to be like a real planet...so it's more like a landing area...has to be limited in size, even if it's "bigger" than the FO76 map, for each planet it still will be no where near like a real life planet.
So yet Another year with NOTHING from Bethesda. I am all for waiting until something is DONE until you release it, but it's been a While since they have done Anything of note at all.
If that’s the real date it just proves they would have shipped a broke piece of shit without a second thought. Really hope that’s Microsoft in the background telling them to fix there shit 😂
I don't think Xbox or Bethesda wants to deal with a giant shit storm from releasing an unfinished product. They got a taste of that from FO76, and they've seen what happens to other companies like CDPR. They simply can't afford it
Bethesda's.Starfield.Is all blah, blah, blah. There say whatever they want. You know Todd knows all the tricks to try & excite you? But the truth is.Nobody's bovvered about Starfield at the moment.I guess we will see the game. When we see it? ps.Still not to late to put it on a more decent game engine?

Placeholder date. No games ever out in the middle of the holidays
Spot on. Wouldn't believe a word Howard says at the best of times, but this was not even a promise.

Those are just placeholder dates as confirmed by others more familiar with how the SteamDP updates work.
The date is likely a placeholder. I wish UA-camrs would stop using this clickbait.
The very last day of 2023 can't possibly be the release date. It has to be a placeholder.
I knew it would be delayed. Time to forget about this game until it actually exists.

He loves releasing big games on 11.11.XX, and missed the window this year, so next year...
Wait, what, this isn't Fallout 76. Lol
The Forth Quarter.......that sucks balls. So a few months to polish turned in to a year. Hype fading fast.
Mine too...
Xbox have confirmed it’s first quarter everyone knows a dec31 is a holding date for that year, most recent interview with Phil puts the game in feb-March
Is there a link to this interview?
Looking forward to more Startfield updates. Can't wait for new worlds to explore.

I got the devastating news today, that the lead designer on Fallout 76 Ferret Baudoin, passed away.
I can't help but wonder "bigger than daggerfall?" when hearing that this is supposed to be the biggest they've ever made. Super stoked.
Any chance this will be/eventually be playable in VR? I'd love to be able to completely be emersed in the Starfield universe.
Yeah, this is gonna be a great game...too bad it wont be on PS4/5. I guess that is the price of merging with microsoft.
IMO i will be waiting for reviews even though a 1 year delay is a promising change from Beth
Thanks for the excellent video. Very excited about the game.
December 29th is a placeholder date just like December 31st.
Thanks Marta! I'm not giving up on March yet.
Christmas 2023😒 oh no its turning into Squadron 42
Thank you for the Starfield update ! , looking forward to more , compared to 10 years ago ,, 1 more year , is just around the corner ,,
That's an apropos amount of dialogue for FO4.
Starfield is just Fallout in space.
Nice to see you branching out to other games. Good stuff
They said First Quarter of '23?
5-5-23 is my guess for release date
Cool news, keep it up
Starfield 23 11 23

👍👍👍👍❤️
Very glad to hear you are covering this game
Thank you for covering this. Pity it is so far away in time. I hope you will continue to give your excellent updates over the year.
As much as they keep delaying Starfield… it had better be bug free and as busy as cyberpunk 2077 at least.
Yea sad to say this but it will 100% delayed into Mid 2024.
february 2024 😁

@@erebusrealm Microsoft no. Bethesda obviously doesn’t give a shit if they tried to release SF this year an now has possibly over a year delay

I miss you :(. And thank you for your hard work! Sadly i dont care about starfield, but so many people do, and that is good thing.
Christmas!!! Wow, that will let them skip to 2024!
