Really great video! Hey, something that might be worth considering...Since it sounds like your goal is to extract energy that would have been wasted, you might want to consider miniaturizing the wind turbines, such that you have quite a few of them across the hood. If you have the blades nearly touching the skin of the hood, the blades will be in the boundary layer as well as the moving airstream. You may actually end up being able to extract more energy that would otherwise be wasted using this approach; you might end up creating vortex generators that will reduce the total amount of drag on the vehicle, helping to offset the increased amount of drag you are creating with the wind turbine. It wouldn't be a total offset, as that's not possible, but it *might* reduce the total amount of drag you are producing with the wind turbine. The drawback is that when the blades are in the boundary layer during their rotation, the very tips of the blades (the portion in the boundary layer) won't be producing any power. But the boundary layer is extremely thin, so that shouldn't matter much, if at all. Another possibility that uses your current design.... move it closer to the front of the vehicle. I assume you are thinking about how there is less drag on a vehicle when you "draft" behind a big truck. I *think* that you'll have better results by tucking in just a bit closer to the "truck." It will be really interesting to see the results of your test... Are you creating more drag with the wind turbine than the drafting effect you are generating? Yes. But will the amount of energy produced by the wind turbine offset this? Hmmm.... I anxiously await the results!

Pretty fun seeing u use carbon fiber, I am studying aircraft mechanic stuf and this week we are working with glass and carbon fiber stuf to make some plates
Isn't this one of those things where it will cost more energy, payed for with an increase of gas consumption, because of friction than what you can generate?
@@Whopparhombus That would be amazing!! Sadly thermodynamics would not allow that. Though it would be a great way to make the car go further potentially. That does depend on how much energy it takes with the added wind resistance and power production it offers though.
Read his pinned post at the top of the comments. He *thinks* that the car is so inefficient that he'll be able to use more of the energy of the already burned fuel, rather than just waste it; this isn't violating any thermodynamic laws, he's merely attempting to tap into the otherwise wasted energy.

I think all parents should include their kids on any projects they are doing. It lets them think and problem solve, which is invaluable in any job. Also you create a bond with your kids, and that’s priceless. 🙃.
Great video, kept up the hard work. Nothing comes easy in life. Never Give Up.
I’m starting a pizza business and the catch is gonna be we cook the pizza on the way to your house with our special cars 😂
This man gives something to shoot for when I get my children as a mechanical engineer
Cook some chocolate chip cookies in the truck with your son. That's making some awesome memories.
The most inspiring part for me other than doing my idea for me, was you raising beautiful scientific mind and bonding in a perfect way with your son. Involve the girl too, humanity will be better off when other half is as scientific free as the other half.
This is scales ahead of my knowledge, but thank you, you and your children are what the world will need. Thank you.
Love the Homer Simpson "Doh!"
I would like to know the impact in mpg.
Its amazing you can drive with that in the streets but not with pop up lights anymore!
He'll lose more than he gains unless he only engages while slowing down or going down hill. It'd be better to put a Honda EU2200i generator in the back, MPG wise.
@@hxhdfjifzirstc894 Yep, unless government starts handing out subsidies for hood mounted wind turbine. Then it magically becomes 150% efficient.
electric cars with or with out solar panels on the vehicle, what is the most aerodynamic hubcap/rim, completely smooth, that is gonna provide a big range difference, make some noise
clothes lines for drying clothes
add on second layer to windmill towers rather than chopping them down,
use the same windmill footing for millions of years,
just fix up the moving parts,
solar installations for rural areas, eliminate all the power line waste
Yeah build a dyson sphere after making a mini black hole
@@billi5920 you mean, lets make light fastern than light with a black hole und harvest it with a dyson sphere? diddent hear that for a long time^^
You are a superhero dad! I love how you involve your kids in really complicated tasks! Kids are so much smarter than we give them credit for.
Off topic Question- what you s that truck? It’s got the body of an old bronco and the interior of an 04-08 f150? It’s pretty cool
this is epic use of that software....
0:48 Perfect to play Carmageddon in real life. :-o
That’s so cool. I want a dad who does stuff like this.Don’t suppose you fancy adopting another son do you? I’m only 35........
And me! Although a 20+ year difference in son's might be weird 🤔 eh it's worth a shot lmao
LOL! Don't miss the conclusion where I measure the effect on mileage to see if it works! ua-cam.com/video/tEPBdztGMdI/v-deo.html
The start of the video with adjustable angle of attac just made smile on my face after wathing the previous episodes
Pretty fun seeing u use carbon fiber, I am studying aircraft mechanic stuf and this week we are working with glass and carbon fiber stuf to make some plates
Does your HOA know MIT has a lab in your garage?
Your kids probably know more about engineering than Most and engineering majors.😳
Yes ..cause practical knowledge is what we need...but they are focusing on the theory stuff 😬😬😬
@@nelsonjames4102 Which is as important. But either on it's own is useless.
Now that's how you parent..
This has go to be one of the top 10 best father son projects I have ever seen!!!
Such a pleasure to watch💖 So wonderful you shared this with your child😊
Isn't this one of those things where it will cost more energy, payed for with an increase of gas consumption, because of friction than what you can generate?
I think this is just for fun science, maybe in future they can make unlimited fuel car by doing this
@@Whopparhombus That would be amazing!!
Video proving it works: ua-cam.com/video/tEPBdztGMdI/v-deo.html 😁
Why didn’t he crush the power reader in his hand and shout “it’s over 700!”?
19:40 oof! I would've had a miniature heartattack xD
Anything that was ever worth anything was never easy... A valuable lesson i learned working with my dad as well lol... awesome video guys keep up the good work!!
You are just magically entrenched in such cool science! I love all the tools and knowledge at your disposal. Great work!

@@QuintBUILDs tq for replying now a days no one replies 😀
Imagine hitting a pedestrian with that on the front of the truck, the lawsuit would be epic.
I wonder if by using those vertical squirrel cage blades like they have in vertical fans you might be able to attach a generator at the bottom and mount it right to the bumper. I have often thought about building a wind turbine in that configuration to see how it would work.
Great video friend! Those were some sexy carbon parts you made. The lack of imperfections was amazing. Must get one of those vacuum bag set ups. 16:05 That maniacal laugh when it works!
Thanks, but, watch the detailed vacuum bagging video on my smaller channel if you want to see the smaller test parts I made first. Talk about imperfections in the carbon! 😜
This is awesome. I love that you got your kiddos involved. They would never learn this stuff in our conventional school system.
Dude, I wish one day I have workshop like you. Thanks for taking the effort sharing the project with us. Great video!
Love the father and son relationship and gaining knowledge in a fun way.
I'm a dad with a great family too and very happy for and very proud of you guys!! 🥳🥳🥳
I am blown away by your ability to test and test and test your various projects. Do you do custom machine work for home DYIers like yourself? I am so impressed with your work on the wind turbines and the fact that you always try to involved your kids in the projects.
I did sent you an email, but I know you must be overloaded with emails such as mines. Thanks a bunch for all your shared project and please keep it up.
Can u tell which motor generator you have used
